Why Are Pink Argyle Diamonds So Special ?
When it comes to diamonds, few are as coveted and captivating as pink argyle diamonds. Renowned for their exquisite beauty and rarity, these precious gems hold a special place in the world of luxury jewellery. But what makes pink argyle diamond so unique and sought after?
In this blog post, we'll delve into the fascinating world of Luxury Pink Argyle Diamonds and explore why they are considered among the most prized gemstones on the planet.
The Rarity of Pink Argyle Diamonds
Pink argyle diamonds are exceptionally rare, accounting for only a minuscule fraction of the world's diamond production. They are primarily sourced from the Argyle mine in Western Australia, which is renowned for its production of coloured diamonds. In fact, less than 0.1% of the diamonds mined at Argyle are pink, making them incredibly scarce and valuable.
The Origin of Pink Colour
The mesmerising pink hue of argyle diamonds is the result of a unique combination of geological factors. Unlike other coloured diamonds, which acquire their hues from impurities or trace elements, pink argyle diamonds owe their colour to a process known as plastic deformation. This occurs when the crystal lattice structure of the diamond is distorted under immense pressure and heat deep within the Earth's crust, resulting in the formation of pink colouration.
Intensity and Grading of Pink Argyle Diamonds
Pink argyle diamonds are graded based on the intensity of their colour, with the most vibrant and saturated hues fetching the highest prices. A well know Institute uses a grading scale that ranges from faint pink to fancy deep pink, with intermediate grades such as light pink, fancy light pink, and fancy intense pink in between. Diamonds with a strong, vivid pink colour are exceptionally rare and command premium prices in the market.
Exquisite Beauty and Elegance
One of the most alluring aspects of pink argyle diamonds is their unparalleled beauty and elegance. The delicate pink hue exudes femininity and sophistication, making these diamonds highly desirable for use in luxury jewellery pieces. Whether set as the centrepiece of a ring, pendant, or earring, pink argyle diamonds never fail to captivate with their radiant allure and timeless appeal.
Investment Potential
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, Engagement Rings in Melbourne also offer significant investment potential. Due to their extreme rarity and limited supply, these diamonds have consistently appreciated in value over the years, outperforming many traditional investment assets. As demand for coloured diamonds continues to soar among collectors and investors worldwide, pink argyle diamonds are poised to remain a highly coveted commodity for generations to come.
Celebrity Endorsement and Popularity
Pink argyle diamonds have received widespread recognition and endorsement from celebrities and high-profile individuals, further fuelling their popularity and prestige. From red carpet events to royal engagements, pink argyle diamonds have graced the fingers, necks, and ears of some of the world's most influential personalities, cementing their status as symbols of luxury and glamour.
Ethical and Sustainable Sourcing
In addition to their beauty and rarity, pink argyle diamonds are also prized for their ethical and sustainable sourcing practices. The Argyle mine operates with strict environmental and Labor standards, ensuring that the diamonds are mined responsibly and ethically. This commitment to sustainability adds another layer of desirability to pink argyle diamonds, making them a conscientious choice for discerning consumers.
Conclusion
In conclusion, pink argyle diamond are truly extraordinary gemstones that captivate with their rarity, beauty, and investment potential. From their origins deep within the Earth to their exquisite pink hues, these diamonds embody the epitome of luxury and elegance. Whether adorning the crown jewels of royalty or gracing the fingers of modern-day fashion icons, pink argyle diamonds continue to enchant and inspire with their timeless allure. Wh⛤t should I we⛤r for my first p⛤le ⛤nnivers⛤ry?
It’s mine ⛤nd my moir⛤ils first p⛤le ⛤nnivers⛤ry this sweep. Obviously I’d LOVE to spoil them rotten, so I got us tickets to ⛤ highly renowned st⛤ge perform⛤nce, ⛤nd ⛤ reserv⛤tion ⛤t ⛤ rest⛤ur⛤nt ⛤fterw⛤rd. ⛤s you c⛤n obviously tell, I know wh⛤t I’m doing, ⛤nd h⛤ve ⛤ll of th⛤t covered.
The only problem is th⛤t I h⛤ven’t the f⛤intest ide⛤ of wh⛤t to we⛤r.
I’m ⛤n extremely high cl⛤ss violetblood, ⛤nd I refuse to we⛤r ⛤nything th⛤t isn’t floor-length, but my moir⛤il often comments th⛤t this m⛤kes me ⛤ppe⛤r more cold th⛤n I re⛤lly ⛤m. Unfortun⛤tely most of the ⛤dvice I h⛤ve seen online m⛤inly involves we⛤ring g⛤rish p⛤tterns or intention⛤lly messy clothing.
Do you h⛤ve ⛤ny ide⛤ how I might m⛤ke myself ⛤ppe⛤r more “w⛤rm” or “⛤ppro⛤ch⛤ble” without h⛤ving to dumb down my f⛤shion sense to the likes of mini⛤ture-putters?
oh finally something i can talk about yeah ok buckle in this shits gonna be long as hell im not even gonna bother with my gimmick here i just wanna talk about clothes for a second
most trolls are dumb as shit and dont give a fuck about fashion and its not even just everyday clothes i mean youve probably seen the shit some trolls wear to dates vitriol emoji
but if youre looking for actually good inspo i have a friend who put out some shit in eclectoskeleton but also theres been some surprisingly good shit in deadliest designs monthly recently
if youre looking for advice from me specifically though then heres a couple things to think about if you wanna wear fancy pale clothes
i dont normally wear this stuff but i do at least have a working thinkpan and know way more than most idiots plus i have super real degrees in quadrantology so some of its probably good advice
colors: obviously going lighter and softer is classic its called pale feelings the pale quadrant and the holidays pale moon night so why not pale colors obviously duh
most trolls stick to blacks and grays and darker shit at least as the base of their outfits most of the time because theyre boring pieces of garbage and also cause its practical i guess
so bringing out those pale pinks or just lighter violets or whites feels special and its something you can do to soften shit up
its pretty it stands out in a crowd and it sets a mood it says i give a fuck about you and i want people to know
but you dont have to stick with that ive seen trolls get a lot of mileage out of shit like wearing a little of each others colors or you can even try their favorite colors for cute personal shit
design:
obviously you already know about shit like diamond motifs but theres ways to do that without just throwing on an ugly little argyle sweater
diamond shapes in embroidery or beading or in lace can look really fucking cute if you do it right
if you can work in moons and stars thats something pretty and obviously pale but not that stupid looking and btw dont be afraid to throw in a little bit of sparkle too
you said you have to wear floor length shit but thats not a deal breaker i mean shit big clothes are classic for paledates and even though youre not gonna be wearing actual palewear you can take those sorts of ideas and fold them into your shit by going for something flowy
i mean yeah bigass sweaters and scarves are classic but so are things like capes maybe its not always "approachable" but it can still say "i pity you or at least probably give a shit about you"
accessories:
anyway speaking of classically pale shit obviously look into pearls the pink ones even kinda look like little pink moons you get it you know what i mean
diamond shaped jewelry is classic but also cabochon cuts are also good to look into especially if you can get your fronds on any pink or white rocks or anything with a little chatoyancy
other shit i forgot to mention or general shit: if you want you can do matching shit
it doesnt need to be one of those matching half and half diamond necklaces for wigglers or anything just making sure theyre wearing something with the same metal and decorative rock as you are or at least some of the same colors so you look good together is good enough i got a little into this by talking about stuff like sparkles and moons and all that but just think about pale nicknames when youre thinking about what to wear "moonlight" "starlight" "moonrise" "moonbeam" "stars" "twilight"
all those things are real and actually pretty things that you can take a lot of inspiration from
even shit like "sugar" or just fucking "diamond" or any of the millions of flowers and random pink or white or sparkly things people use
#asks#advice#pale stuff#theres other shit i could say too obviously#but this is already insanely long#and im not getting paid for this#normally i charge for clothes advice lmao#some of this shits really over the top but i mean come on#why not#its your anniversary

Gemstones in CPC (other than becoming the CPC universe's currency 'money')
..is to becoming engagement ring.. Yup wanna talk about it!
(Also my coping mechanisms as how things happened to these 5 ships so far in the CPC story), as after this I make a long post about Plaid Royals men hahaha :")
Before going deeper, take precaution!
BTW if one's forget, I feel the 'money currency' in CPC
world / universe is 'gems' which kinda inconvenient and too varies but well we get what we could, how to pay like this :
^ unless the economy expert, Prez, decline this motion then I guess the 'money currency' in CPC world is 'gems' and unknown what exactly the stone is but colored as light blue
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Nell's engagement ring from Jolie
Which have close up of the ring, from the colour it could also be light blue diamond or sapphire or aquamarine but I take Sapphire for the chance as it's precious stone that could take color of anything - including the light blue
Sapphire is said to be the wisdom stone, stimulating concentration, enhancing creativity and promoting purity and depth of thought. It is believed to focus and calm the mind as well as remove unwanted thoughts, depression and mental tension. It is known as the stone of new love and commitment and is claimed to be useful in encouraging faithfulness and loyalty. Sapphire is thought to bring peace of mind, serenity and prosperity.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Maria's engagement ring from Blaine
Aquamarine (don't confuse it with Aquamarine Hoshino btw)
Maria ring stone likely a Aquamarine, March’s birthstone, have reputation for protecting one’s well-being. The aquamarine birthstone evokes the colors of the sea. From deep green-blue to light, slightly greenish blue hues, faceted aquamarines are often free from inclusions and as clear as water, symbolizing purity of spirit and soul.
Aquamarine is often used as a "good luck" stone, thought to bring feelings of peace, love, joy and happiness to those who wear it. There is an energizing quality to aquamarine that provides harmony and balance. If you dream of aquamarine, it is said that you will make new friends, and wearing earrings of aquamarine are thought to bring love and affection into your life.
---------------------------------------------------------------Lorena's engagement ring from Lance
Light purple Amethyst
-> The light purple birthstone is often associated with qualities such as peace, tranquility, and balance. It is believed to have a calming effect (could reduce stress level) on the mind and is often used to aid in meditation and spiritual practices. Amethyst is also associated with intuition and spiritual awareness, making it a popular stone for those seeking to connect with their higher selves.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Gwendolyn's engagement ring from Frederick
Peridot
Peridot is a variety of olivine. It is part of the orthorhombic crystal system and has a vitreous luster. Peridot is rich in magnesium and has an iron content that gives the gem its green coloring. The shades of Peridot range from yellow-green to olive green and dark green. The meaning of Peridot is purpose and focus
-> Peridot is a prized gemstone known for its summer spirit, its good-luck vibes, and its uncanny ability to keep you calm and feeling safe no matter what is going on around you.
This gift from the heart of Mother Nature comes with a ton of healing properties. Deep-set calm, good health, restful slumbering, and restoring balance and harmony to the body, mind and soul are just a handful of things you can expect when you say yes to Peridot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ possible engagement ring for Jamie from Leopold
Many people search for the beauty of Pink Diamonds. It's an incredibly rare diamond mostly found in the Argyle Mine of Australia. -> Interesting to know that Argyle irl is a site in Australia that have the diamond in Jamie's color: pink. That ring honestly so pretty, but just let know that diamond is a diamond - a gem based solely on carbon but got prssures to becomed hardened. Diamond is the strongest gem in Moch scale (value=10) and even making an idiom of "diamond cuts diamond" to refers only the strongest that able to fights the fellow strongest.
-> Diamonds are associated with strength, love and health. As we have uncovered, throughout history, diamonds have been worn by leaders or power figures to symbolise strength and invincibility. Diamonds have also been associated with good health and represent long life and good heart health.
Conclusion: So those 5 engagement rings, all speculatives regarding the kind of them gemstones - while 4 indeed real rings in the CPC story while another 1 is speculative based on 'meme' - 1 still canon (NelLie), 1 is uncertain with so many complications (GwenDerick/FredDolyn, 1 is growing (LeoMie) but 2 are ykwim (Blaine/Maria + Lance/Lorena)

Sponsored Love: The Fabulous New Venice-Inspired Stella Bridal Collection By Simon Ardem
Throughout history, tokens of love have been gifted to symbolize commitment and commemorate unions.
The presentation of an engagement ring and wedding band embodies this promise and tradition as wearable art—an everyday emblem as enduring as the foundation it represents…a covenant of a couple’s dedication to one another.
In celebration of a new year and new beginnings, world-renowned bridal atelier Simon Ardem launches a capsule collection of classic engagement and wedding ring styles, infusing the warmth of rose gold layering and pink accents, alongside traditional all platinum and diamond designs.
Inspired by the romance of Venice, where Simon Ardem co-founders Ardem and Cynthia Aslanian married nineteen years ago, the collection celebrates their love of the city, and the beauty it emanates.
Ardem Aslanian, Co-Founder of Simon Ardem and President of the Armenian Jeweler’s Association, says, “Venice stands out as one of the most unique places in Italy, not just for the canals it’s famous for, but for its rich history in the arts. The craftsmanship of its city and architecture has stood the test of time. Our inspiration for the Stella Bridal collection pays homage to this beautiful Italian city.” Featuring a mix of cuts, from emerald to princess, the collection encourages one to choose a dream ring amongst a plethora of refined designs. The Bovolo Ring, a square Asscher cut platinum engagement ring, displays the exceptional craftsmanship of the New York City atelier. It is inspired by the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, a palazzo in Venice famed for its multi-arch spiral staircase, beauty, and intricacy—an architectural jewel translated into a wedding jewel.
An elegant twist on the classic engagement ring is the magical Contarini Ring, an Asscher cut, set in 18K rose gold band. The shank of the ring is set ¾ of the way around with rare Argyle pink diamonds, for next-level luxury.
Named after the Contarini family, the family is one of the founding families of Venice, known for their Italian nobility lineage.
The brilliance of the pink diamonds, complementing the rose gold in the setting, adds a breathtaking elegance to this one-of-a-kind piece, perfect for the bride looking for something equally stunning and rare.
The Stella Bridal capsule collection’s Dandolo Ring is also composed of elegant 18K rose gold and pink diamonds, set with a sparkling round brilliant diamond. It is an homage to its namesake, Enrico Dandolo, a Venetian Doge.
Both the Contarini and Dandolo rings are extraordinary, handmade with acute attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship. Each is wholly unique and rare, as the bond it represents and the wearer who relishes it.
The fourth engagement ring in the Stella Bridal capsule collection is the lovely Loredan Ring, named after the House of Loredan, a political dynasty that shaped both the Republic of Venice and the Mediterranean.
Its elegant oval cut diamond is beautifully prong set with four platinum prongs, within an 18K rose gold band. Streamlined and modern, it offers a sophisticated bridal look.
To complement the collection, Simon Ardem offers a variety of wedding bands, which can be mixed and matched with the four signature styles.
A 14K rose gold and round diamond eternity band, oval diamond eternity band in platinum, and an East-West emerald cut baguette platinum eternity band each offer a timeless design that pairs beautifully with the Stella Bridal capsule collection engagement rings.
Cynthia Aslanian, Co-Founder of Simon Ardem, says “The warm pink tone of rose gold is a perfect complement to pure platinum, adding a unique twist to this timeless collection.”
For those looking to embrace the romance, history, and beauty of Venice in their bridal look, Simon Ardem’s Stella Bridal capsule collection offers picture-perfect designs that reflect the vision and beauty of the wedding day, as well as the future together, while maintaining timeless style for the bride-to-be.

The Growing Trend of Colored Diamond Jewelry
Introduction
Diamonds have long been admired for their brilliance and elegance, but in recent years, there’s been a surge in demand for something a little different—colored diamonds. These vibrant gems are making waves in the jewelry world, adding a unique touch to everything from engagement rings to pretty earrings. In this blog, we’ll explore the growing trend of colored diamond jewelry and how it can bring a pop of color and luxury to your collection.
What Are Colored Diamonds?
Natural vs. Treated Colored Diamonds Colored diamonds occur naturally when specific elements or conditions are present during the diamond’s formation. For example, boron creates blue diamonds, nitrogen produces yellow diamonds, and radiation exposure forms green diamonds. Naturally colored diamonds are incredibly rare, which makes them highly sought after.
There are also treated or enhanced colored diamonds, which undergo high-temperature treatments to create vibrant hues at a more affordable price. Whether natural or treated, colored diamonds offer a stunning way to stand out from traditional white diamonds.
Why Colored Diamonds Are Trending
1. Uniqueness and Personalization
Colored diamonds offer a unique alternative to traditional diamond jewelry. Many people are drawn to the idea of expressing their individuality through vibrant hues. From blush pink to deep blue and striking yellow, colored diamonds allow for more personalized choices in everything from engagement rings to pretty earrings.
2. A Splash of Color for Everyday Elegance
Colored diamonds aren’t just for special occasions—they're becoming popular in everyday jewelry as well. Pretty earrings featuring colored diamonds can add a subtle yet captivating element to your daily look. Whether it's soft pastel tones or bold, vibrant shades, colored diamond earrings are a trendy way to enhance your personal style.
3. A Symbol of Rarity and Prestige
Because naturally colored diamonds are rare, owning one is often considered a symbol of status and prestige. Celebrities and royalty have been spotted sporting colored diamond jewelry, further boosting the trend’s appeal. A pair of pretty earrings featuring colored diamonds can make a subtle yet powerful statement about exclusivity and elegance.
Popular Colors in Diamond Jewelry
1. Pink Diamonds
Pink diamonds are one of the most coveted and feminine of colored diamonds. Their romantic hue makes them a popular choice for engagement rings and pretty earrings alike. The Argyle mine in Australia was one of the primary sources of pink diamonds, making them increasingly rare after the mine's closure.
2. Blue Diamonds
Blue diamonds exude a cool, luxurious elegance. The most famous blue diamond is the Hope Diamond, which has a rich history of prestige and mystery. Today, blue diamonds are favored for statement pieces like rings, necklaces, and earrings.
3. Yellow Diamonds
Yellow diamonds, often referred to as “canary diamonds,” are among the most affordable of the naturally colored diamonds. Their bright, sunny hue makes them perfect for adding a cheerful and bold touch to jewelry, from pretty earrings to pendant necklaces.
4. Green Diamonds
Green diamonds are rare and highly prized for their unique color. The green shade is caused by natural radiation exposure during the diamond's formation. These diamonds often have a mysterious, earthy appeal and are ideal for those looking for something truly one-of-a-kind.
How to Incorporate Colored Diamonds in Your Jewelry Collection
1. Pretty Earrings for Everyday Glamour
Colored diamonds make for stunning earrings, offering just the right amount of sparkle and color to elevate any outfit. Whether you prefer subtle studs or dangling designs, pretty earrings with colored diamonds can bring sophistication and charm to your daily look.
2. Custom Pieces for Special Occasions
For special events, custom-colored diamond pieces can create a lasting impression. Whether it’s an engagement ring, a statement necklace, or a pair of pretty earrings, colored diamonds allow you to create something unique that reflects your style and personality.
3. Mix and Match with Other Gemstones
Pairing colored diamonds with other gemstones can add depth and variety to your jewelry. Combining diamonds with sapphires, rubies, or emeralds allows you to experiment with bold color combinations, creating dynamic and eye-catching designs.
Conclusion
The growing trend of colored diamond jewelry offers endless possibilities for those looking to add vibrant, unique pieces to their collection. Whether you're opting for a rare natural colored diamond or a more affordable treated one, the appeal of these gems is undeniable. From pretty earrings to statement necklaces, colored diamonds are redefining modern luxury, making them a must-have for anyone looking to stand out with style.

Pink diamonds are among the rarest and most exquisite gemstones in the world.
Introduction to 粉紅鑽石
Pink diamonds are among the rarest and most exquisite gemstones in the world. Their enchanting hue ranges from delicate pastel shades to intense, vivid tones. The allure of pink diamonds is not just in their beauty but also in their rarity and the mysteries surrounding their color formation.
Color: The Heart of Pink Diamonds
The color of pink diamonds is the most crucial factor determining their value and appeal. Unlike other colored diamonds, where the color is due to impurities like nitrogen or boron, the pink color is thought to arise from a structural anomaly during the diamond's formation.
Hue, Tone, and Saturation
Hue: Refers to the diamond's basic color. In pink diamonds, secondary hues like purple or orange can impact the value.
Tone: The lightness or darkness of the color. A balanced tone that accentuates the pink hue is most desirable.
Saturation: The strength or intensity of the color. Higher saturation levels usually mean a more valuable diamond.
Grading by GIA
GIA grades colored diamonds based on the intensity of their color. For pink diamonds, the grades range from Faint Pink through Fancy Light, Fancy Pink, Fancy Intense, Fancy Deep, and Fancy Vivid. The ‘Fancy Vivid’ grade represents the most intensely colored diamonds.
Clarity and Its Impact
Clarity refers to the absence of inclusions or blemishes. While clarity is a crucial factor in evaluating white diamonds, it’s slightly less so in colored diamonds where the color can mask certain imperfections. However, pink diamonds with high clarity are exceptionally rare and valuable.
The Role of Cut in Pink Diamonds
The cut of a pink diamond is vital in enhancing its color and brilliance. Cutters must balance the retention of color with the diamond’s brilliance. The most common cuts for pink diamonds are radiant and cushion due to their ability to intensify color.
Carat Weight and Rarity
Pink diamonds are typically found in smaller sizes. As the carat weight increases, the rarity and price of the diamond rise exponentially. Diamonds over 1 carat are extremely rare and sought after by collectors and investors.
The Source of Pink Diamonds
Most pink diamonds come from the Argyle Mine in Western Australia, known for producing over 90% of the world's supply. However, with the closure of the Argyle Mine, the rarity and value of pink diamonds are expected to increase further.
Investment and Collectible Value
Pink diamonds are not just admired for their beauty but are also considered robust investments. Their rarity and the closing of major mines have led to a steady increase in value over the years.
Synthetic and Treated Pink Diamonds
With advancements in technology, synthetic pink diamonds and treated diamonds (where color is added to a less desirable diamond) have become more common. These options offer a more affordable alternative, but they lack the value and prestige of natural pink diamonds.
The Mystique of Pink Diamonds in Culture
Pink diamonds hold a unique place in popular culture and history, often associated with royalty and celebrities. They symbolize love, passion, and luxury, making them popular choices for engagement rings and special gifts.
Buying a Pink Diamond
When purchasing a pink diamond, it’s essential to consider:
Certification: Always buy diamonds with a GIA certificate to ensure authenticity.
Budget: Due to their rarity, pink diamonds can be significantly more expensive than other gemstones.
Purpose: Whether buying for investment, collection, or as a jewelry piece, the purpose will guide your choice in terms of color intensity, size, and overall appearance.
Conclusion
粉紅鑽石, with their mesmerizing hues and exceptional rarity, continue to captivate the world. Whether as a symbol of love, a statement of luxury, or an investment, they hold a special place in the world of gemstones. Understanding their characteristics and market dynamics is crucial for anyone interested in these precious gems.

[ad_1] While all forms of diamonds are coveted, rare pink versions are particularly highly sought after. Pink diamonds, along with red, green and purple, are among the rarest colours of diamonds. Polished pink specimens of the highest grade can sell for tens of millions of dollars, while the candy coloured gems adorn the engagement rings of celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Blake Lively.Even the late Queen Elizabeth II was among pink diamonds’ most high-profile fans, having been gifted a 54-carat intense pink diamond when she married the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947.WA’s renowned Argyle diamond deposit was the source of 90 per cent of the world’s pink diamonds. The mine at Argyle has closed, making pink diamonds all the more rare, but researchers believe they now understand how and when the striking stones were formed. The scientists, who published their findings in Nature Communications on Tuesday, used tiny lasers to analyse miners and rocks extracted from the Argyle deposit. They found the pink diamond-rich site formed during the break-up of an ancient supercontinent, called Nuna, about 1.3 billion years ago.“While the continent that would become Australia didn’t break up, the area where Argyle is situated was stretched, including along the scar, which created gaps in the Earth’s crust for magma to shoot up through to the surface, bringing with it pink diamonds,” explained lead study author Hugo Olierook, a research fellow at Curtin University’s John de Laeter Centre in Perth. How diamonds are formed Earlier this year, a separate study confirmed that diamonds explode from deep beneath the Earth’s surface in volcanic eruptions they described as “fountains”. The findings, published in Nature in July, led scientists to believe the break-up of supercontinents is what causes these huge, diamond eruptions.“The diamonds have been sat at the base of the continents for hundreds of millions or even billions of years,” Thomas Gernon, a professor of Earth and climate science, told LiveScience.“There must be some stimulus that just drives them suddenly, because these eruptions themselves are really powerful, really explosive.”The result, Professor Gernon said, is “like shaking a bottle of champagne”. The eruptions have huge explosive potential and buoyancy, rocketing the diamonds up to Earth’s surface. When diamonds glow pink For diamonds to turn pink or red, as they often did at Argyle, they must be subjected to intense forces from colliding tectonic plates that twist and bend their crystal lattices. Most brown diamonds are also formed in this manner. At Argyle, this process occurred around 1.8 billion years ago when WA and Northern Australia collided, turning the once-colourless diamonds pink hundreds of miles below Earth’s crust. The research team found that the Argyle deposits were 1.3 billion years old, from a time when an ancient supercontinent, known as Nuna, was breaking up into fragments.“By using laser beams smaller than the width of a human hair on rocks supplied by Rio Tinto (the company that owned the mine), we found Argyle to be 1.3 billion years old, which is 100 million years older than previously thought, meaning it would likely have formed as a result of an ancient supercontinent breaking apart,” Dr Olierook said. This chain of events, according to the study, suggested the junctures of ancient continents may be important for finding pink diamonds, which could help diamond miners as they explore for other ultra valuable deposits. “Most diamond deposits have been found in the middle of ancient continents because their host volcanoes tend to be exposed at the surface for explorers to find,” Dr Olierook said.“Argyle is at the suture of two of these ancient continents, and these edges are often covered by sand and soil, leaving the possibility that similar pink diamond-bearing volcanoes still sit undiscovered, including in Australia.”Get in touch — [email protected] [ad_2]
