Hello sir, tell me,
What would recommend as a good whiskey? I recieved a nice crystal decanter and glasses for V-day. I also do love a lovely red-head. I'm also half...brown hair red beard. That's not important.
I will be traveling for work out of the country, I'm north, but I did love working in Texas. Also a Sagittarius.
Anyway, I was privileged enough to recieve a bottle of Green Spot, and I did take my time enjoying it, and I'm not a huge cigar connoisseur, but, I did have a wanna-be Cuban whilst enjoying this fine whiskey.
However my source moved back to Ireland, so, I need a new recommendation.
Thanks for taking time to read, and thanks more if you reply
Lord Brock Jensen of Lochaber
Thanks for the question. Recommending a whisky without knowing someone’s predilections is a tricky thing. For example, do you like scotch or bourbon? Peaty, honey or fruity notes? Inexpensive or pricey?
For a peaty Islay scotch, I’d recommend anything from Ardbeg, they lately have had some really interesting bottlings. The Ardbeg Wee Beastie is all smoke and fun but perhaps a bit harsh for someone new to whisky. You can’t ever go wrong with Laphroig 10, I have been working my way through a bottle and it’s quite enjoyable. For something more fruity, I have been partial lately to the Balvenie 15 Sherry Cask, that has nice raisin / fruity notes. For a less expensive Speyside whisky, the Craigellachie 13 is pretty tasty, a nice basic Speyside scotch with a distinctly old school distillation process. As for Bourbon, that’s not really my thing. But I do enjoy Woodford Reserve, and my wife’s family is from the area where they distill Makers Mark, and I can definitely recommend Makers Mark 46. Hope you find this helpful.

Just realized yesterday was Burns Night 🤦‍♂️. Well to make up for it this thirsty Thursday I'm diving into this three pack Monsters of Smoke from Ardbeg featuring the Wee Beastie, Ardbeg 10, and An Oa. Paired with a great Tatuaje T110 Tuxtla cigar. The Wee Beastie has flavors of iodine, sweet hay, and earthy smoke. The 10 has flavors of sweet roast meat, campfire, and salted caramel. The An Oa has flavors of spice cake, molasses, and dark chocolate. .... Happy 264th Robert Burns! Sorry it's a belated birthday. .... Burns Night celebrates the birthday of the national poet of Scotland Robert Burns. It's celebrated on January 25th each year with toasts of Scotch, haggis, and the recital of Burns' poetry. .... O Lord, Thou kens what zeal I bear, When drinkers drink, an’ swearers swear, An’ singin there, an’ dancin here, Wi’ great and sma’; For I am keepit by Thy fear Free frae them a’. But yet, O Lord! confess I must, At times I’m fash’d wi’ fleshly lust: An’ sometimes, too, in wardly trust, Vile self gets in: But Thou remembers we are dust, Defil’d wi’ sin. -Holy Willie’s Prayer, Robert Burns .... #cigar #CigarLover #CigarAfficionado #cigarphoto #cigarsnob #cigarlife #cigarsmoke #burnsnight #tatuajecigars #sailorandsticks #cigarsandwhisky #TapThatAsh #whisky #scotchwhisky #ardbeg #WhiskyAfficionado #WhiskyNeat #whiskylife #whiskyphoto #WhiskyLover #thirstythursday #quote #quotestagram (at Coastal San Pedro) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn6Bl8krBl7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

As we told you in our “Buon Giorno, Monsieur!” AND “Martinez” Cocktail videos… Back in late June, we received an email from Gene Cooper of McMann & Tate Cocktail Company asking if we’d like to try an assortment of their cocktail bitters. Of course we said, “YES!”, so here we are with yet another little cocktail that we concocted in the Booze Dancing Research Lab. This is the third of four…

The Art and Elegance of Premium Scotch Whiskies
Premium scotch whiskies hold a unique place in the world of spirits, known for their rich flavors, intricate craftsmanship, and storied histories. These whiskies are the product of centuries-old traditions and meticulous production processes, resulting in a beverage that is not just a drink, but an experience.
The Art of Crafting Best Premium Scotch Whisky
The journey of a premium scotch whisky begins with its ingredients. Made from malted barley, water, and yeast, the process starts with malting, where the barley is soaked, germinated, and dried in kilns, often using peat smoke which imparts a distinctive smoky flavor. The malted barley is then mashed, and the sugars are extracted before fermentation, which converts these sugars into alcohol.
Distillation is a crucial step, typically done twice in copper pot stills. The first distillation produces a low-alcohol wash, which is then distilled again to create a spirit with higher alcohol content. The heart of the distillate is collected and aged in oak casks, which profoundly influence the final character of the whisky. These casks, often previously used for bourbon or sherry, add layers of flavor, from vanilla and caramel to dried fruits and spices.
The Role of Aging
Aging is where the magic happens. Scotch whisky must be aged for a minimum of three years by law, but premium scotch often spends much longer in the cask, sometimes decades. The interaction between the spirit and the wood mellows the harsh edges, enhances complexity, and allows for the development of a deep, rich flavor profile.
Each distillery has its unique approach to aging, influenced by factors like the type of oak used, the previous contents of the cask, the climate, and the position of the cask within the warehouse. The result is a diverse range of premium scotches, each with its signature taste and character.
Tasting Notes and Experience
When tasting a premium scotch whisky, it’s important to appreciate the nuances that make each one unique. The first step is to observe the color, which can range from pale gold to deep amber, indicating the type and length of aging. Swirling the whisky in the glass releases its aromas, which can include notes of peat, smoke, fruit, vanilla, spices, and oak.
Taking a small sip, let the whisky roll over your tongue to fully appreciate its texture and flavor. Premium scotch whiskies are known for their balance and complexity, with initial flavors giving way to deeper, evolving notes as the whisky warms and opens up. The finish is equally important, often lingering and revealing even more layers of taste.
Notable Top Premium Scotch Whiskies
Several distilleries are renowned for their premium offerings. For instance, The Macallan is celebrated for its rich, sherried whiskies, while Glenfiddich offers a range of aged expressions known for their elegance and depth. Lagavulin and Ardbeg are famous for their heavily peated styles, delivering a powerful smoky punch. Highland Park combines sweetness and smoke, creating a balanced and complex profile. Conclusion
Premium scotch whisky is more than a beverage; it’s a testament to tradition, craftsmanship, and the passage of time. Each bottle tells a story of its origins, from the barley fields to the oak forests, and the skilled hands that crafted it. Whether enjoyed neat, with a splash of water, or in a sophisticated cocktail, premium scotch whisky offers an unparalleled tasting experience that is both timeless and exquisite. Dive into the World of Pairing Machine-Made Cigars with Beverages and Foods
Cigars, whether hand-rolled or machine-made, have a rich history and a devoted following. While aficionados often celebrate the craftsmanship of machine-rolled, they also have their place in the world of tobacco enjoyment. In this bookmarks, we’ll explore the art of pairing some of the best machine-made cigars online with various beverages and foods, enhancing your smoking experience.
Why Pairing Matters
Pairing cigars with complementary flavors can elevate the overall sensory experience. Just as wine enthusiasts savor the interplay between wine and cheese, cigar enthusiasts seek harmonious combinations. Here’s how to dive into the world of pairing:
1. Whiskey and Machine-Made Cigars
Scotch Whisky:
Pairing Notes: The smoky, peaty flavors of Scotch whisky resonate well with medium to full-bodied cigars. Consider a classic Glenlivet or Lagavulin with a Villiger Export Pressed Maduro, one of the top swiss machine-mades.
Best Matches: Highland Park 12, Ardbeg 10, or Glenfiddich 15.
Bourbon:
Pairing Notes: The sweetness and caramel notes in bourbon complement milder cigars. Try a bourbon like Maker’s Mark with a Connecticut-wrapper cigar like the Villiger Export Pressed.
Best Matches: Maker’s Mark, Buffalo Trace, or Woodford Reserve.
Irish Whiskey:
Pairing Notes: Irish whiskey’s smoothness pairs beautifully with lighter cigars. Opt for a Jameson or Bushmills alongside a mild cigar.
Best Matches: Villiger Export Pressed, La Paz Cigarillosor Redbreast 12.
2. Wine and Machine-Made Cigars
Red Wine:
Pairing Notes: Full-bodied red wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Malbec, complement robust cigars or Cuban Cigars and Cuban Culture. The tannins balance the cigar’s flavors.
Best Matches: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, or Zinfandel.
Port Wine:
Pairing Notes: A rich, sweet port wine pairs wonderfully with a dessert cigar. The sweetness of Mehari's Red Orient enhances the cigar’s nuances.
Best Matches: Ruby Port or Tawny Port.
3. Coffee and Machine-Made Cigars
Espresso:
Pairing Notes: The boldness of espresso contrasts beautifully with a mild cigar. Enjoy this combination after a hearty meal.
Best Matches: Dark roast espresso or a cappuccino.
Cold Brew:
Pairing Notes: Cold brew coffee’s smoothness complements a medium-bodied Villiger Export Round cigar. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon smoke.
Best Matches: Nitro cold brew or homemade cold brew.
4. Food Pairings with Machine-Made Cigars
Dark Chocolate:
Pairing Notes: Dark chocolate’s bitterness balances the sweetness of many cigars. Try it with a Maduro or Oscuro cigar.
Best Matches: High-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher).
Nuts:
Pairing Notes: Almonds, cashews, or pistachios provide a crunchy contrast to the cigar’s texture.
Best Matches: Roasted almonds or salted cashews.
Charcuterie:
Pairing Notes: Sliced cured meats like prosciutto or salami enhance the savory experience of Meharis Ecuador cigar smoking.
Best Matches: Prosciutto di Parma or Spanish chorizo.
Remember, pairing is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role. Buy cigars, experiment, explore, and find what delights your palate. Whether you’re enjoying a machine-made cigar on the patio or at a cozy lounge, these pairings will enhance your smoking journey.

Regardless of whether they're not large consumers, it's an extraordinary measure to have in the alcohol bureau for visitors.
How great is a night in with a tad of talk and well disposed contest over prepackaged games or cards? Buying Affordable Whisky That Tastes Expensive
In today’s world, where living costs are constantly increasing, we all like to find ideas to cut back a little and ease the stress. So, should that include giving up on enjoying a dram or two of whisky? Certainly not!
Tumblr media
We, at The Grand Store, have researched whiskies that don’t cost a fortune but offer a remarkable range of flavours. We have kept in mind some key elements such as the alcohol percentage, also known as alcohol by volume (abv) present, the unique characteristics and the flavour profile for our list. These are our affordable top choices to shop whisky online:
Ardbeg 10 YO Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 46% abv
Produced on the Kildaton Coast of Islay in northwest Scotland, this Ardbeg spirit has been named ‘World Whisky of the Year’ by top whisky critic, Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. Launched in 2000, it has an exceptional peaty deliciousness and is well-known amongst single malt connoisseurs. A unique peat-laden wild water source is used for its production and it is aged in first and second fills of ex-bourbon American Oak casks and bottled without chill-filtration to create a smoky balance of bold spice and sweet vanilla.
It is light golden coloured, with an enticing aroma mix of cinnamon spice and toffee sweetness. Fresh floral and citrus notes are evident on the palate and also, hints of pear drops and melon with a gentle creaminess. This is followed by a wave of brine and smoked fish. The finish is long, warming and smoky with tarry espresso, aniseed and hickory.
Johnnie Walker Black Label, 40% abv
Johnnie Walker Black Label is an iconic and reputed whisky from Scotland that is seen as a benchmark to other superior whisky blends. Created by a small team of experts, this alluring whisky contains over 40 grain and malt whiskies from all over Scotland to be blended and matured for 12 years giving out its deep, rich flavour and smooth character.
Johnnie Walker Black Label gives a luxurious feel over the tongue, to release an intense sweet vanilla flavour that gives way to toasted oak, creamy toffee and orange zest. The gentle aroma reminds you of raisins as well as spice and it has an unbelievably smooth finish layered with peat, malt and that distinctive rich smoke.
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, 40% abv
This interesting name is derived from the strain distillery workers would get in the past while manually flipping malted barley. Monkey Shoulder, which was launched in 2005 was created by master blender Brian Kinsman and is owned by UK-based William Grant & Sons. Developed as a blend of single malts, Monkey Shoulder is matured in first-fill casks used initially for ageing Bourbon, and vatted batch-wise before chill-filtering and finally bottling at 40% strength.
It has a sweet, fruity aroma at the first whiff. It has bold, yet balanced flavours of spiced oak, honey, vanilla and zesty orange with a smooth, malty character. It blends the best qualities of a traditional scotch whisky with the modern palate at a great price.
Woodford Reserve Distiller's Bourbon Whisky, 45.2% abv
This Kentucky straight bourbon whisky is distilled in small batches at Woodford County, Kentucky, U.S.A since 1996 by the Brown-Forman Corporation. It is created from a combination of copper pot still spirits formed at the company's Woodford Reserve Distillery, and column still spirits produced by the Brown Forman Distillery in Shively, Kentucky. This fine bourbon whisky comprises more than 200 flavour notes ranging from fruit and floral to woody, bold grain and sweet aromatics to give out a distinct taste and clean, crisp finish. It has a rich, rounded and smooth as well as a chewy character, with complex cinnamon, caramel, citrus, chocolate and spice notes to name a few.
Jameson Irish Whisky, 40% abv
Jameson is one of the best-selling Irish whisky worldwide. It is amongst the popular brands of the prestigious Pernod Richard portfolio. Jameson is a fine blend of pot still and grain whisky, produced, distilled and matured in the distillery at Middleton, County Cork of Ireland and has developed a unique art of whisky making that involves triple distillation and triple cask maturing. An initial mixture of malted and unmalted barley is distilled thrice and aged in oak barrels from Portugal, Spain and the USA, in which bourbon, port or sherry have matured. It is then blended from whiskies of diverse ages and casks to give that distinctive Jameson taste.
It has a lovely citrine colour with that typical Irish smoothness, and light and easy to drink. It has a light floral fragrance interspersed with sweet and spicy wood notes. The palate includes nutty, spicy and vanilla notes with hints of sweet sherry and a mellow, smooth finish. Visit www.grandstore.co.za right now to try out your pick of budget-friendly Whisky online in South Africa.
