April Wine Co-founder Myles Goodwyn Dies at 75
April Wine co-founder Myles Goodwyn died Dec. 3 at 75, the band’s publicist said.
No cause of death was given.
“So long, old friend,” April Wine said on its Facebook page.
As singer, guitarist and principal songwriter for the group, Goodwyn was the only member to appear on the 16 April Wine studio albums released between 1971 and 2006. He retired from the band in early 2023 and April Wine continues to tour with no original members.
Goodwyn was “a true legend,” former Cranberries guitarist Steve DeMarchi said.
“Myles is a unique force of nature, and will remain so, despite his departure from this earthly stage,” fellow Canadian band Trooper said in a statement.
“He’ll be greatly missed on that stage by all of us who tread those boards with him.“
Best known for such songs as “Just Between You and Me” and “Sign of the Gypsy Queen,” April Wine were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2010.
“May Myles Goodwyn rest in love and peace,” Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation said in a statement.

As much as I love Canadian bands it sucks to like them sometimes because the more obscure ones like Trooper or April Wine or Loverboy have so few posts made about them and nobody really talks about them. Also on the topic, I am so fascinated by how bands so well known around here aren’t known at all across the world. Like, Glass Tiger or Platinum Blonde get very decent radio play around here—but I doubt that none outside of Canada would know who they are. The same goes for Trooper and in some ways Kim Mitchell. Only bands like Rush and The Guess Who out of all of the Canadian classic rock bands out there (particularly from the 70s-80s) are known fairly well outside of Canada. It makes me sad that I can’t find Trooper or Loverboy posts, likely because they’re names of some more popular thing.
