Yk I have an immense amount of love for characters who either don't know shit OR knows more than they should but doesn't tell anyone.
Which reminds me of Winona and Sage respectively and since I've already rambled about my girl Winny, it's Sage's time.
They're a Roman child of Apollo. With prophecy powers. Yk like Halycon Green.
So they were pretty happy with their Italian immigrant dad, and they knew about the gods and stuff bc their dad would go "the sun is your other father." and told them things to protect themselves. So they're good. :)
But not for long. Their dad gets sick. And has to be moved into a hospital bc it's that serious. Sage is distraught and prays to Apollo every time they can. Then they have a vision of a casket being lowered into ground. Dad dies one day later. Sage angry at Apollo and grieving runs away. And gets found by Titan army.
Yep. Prophetic child with the Ta. Bad combination. That's where dear old Luke Castellan comes in. So, Sage after successfully predicting a lot of things realises they have knowledge of the future. Now, they're angry at their father and they're like 9. After they realise "Wait, I can help us win this thing." They go and barge into a meeting, much to everyone there's displeasure. Luckily, Luke has experience with children so he steers Sage away, then they tell Luke they can see the future.
Luke is tired, both mentally and physically because of Kronos so when he hears about another prophetic child of Apollo he just flips his shit. He tells Sage about what happened to Hal, a little harshly then he should but oh well, and Sage is now absolutely terrified of their dad. They swear on River Styx that they won't tell their predictions anyone not even Kronos.
And unlike Apollo they're very good at keeping promises. Flash forward to when it comes to the Battle of Manhattan, 10 year old Sage is tasked with defending Mt. Othrys. And watches Princess Andromeda sail away, waving after them, knowing full well it will explode, people will die, the battle will be lost and the general will snap and get himself in trouble.
Oh and remember that 12 year old, Percy pushes down the stairs in Andromeda? Sage and he were friends. He dies in the explosion.
Then they get a dream about the Romans, the battle here will go just as badly as the one in Manhattan. There's two outcomes; either Sage will stay and die or they can run and live. They ditch their post obviously. Little 10 year old Sage watches the battle go on from an obscure backstreet filled with self loathing and hatred for Apollo. They also fear for their life now; he punished Hal for saving a girl's life, what would he do to a traitor?
After the war they get found family-ied by two Ta members who are escaping from the Romans, so there is that.

The Emotional Rollercoaster of IVF: Coping Strategies and Support
IVF is a complex process that can be emotionally draining for couples. It involves multiple steps, from hormone injections to monitoring and egg retrieval, all of which can create an emotional rollercoaster ride. This article will discuss the emotional rollercoaster of IVF and provide some strategies for coping with it as well as support options available in Bhopal.
IVF is a long journey with many highs and lows along the way. The initial excitement at starting treatment may quickly turn into anxiety when trying to conceive does not happen right away or after several failed attempts at implantation have taken their toll on your emotions. You may also feel overwhelmed by all the decisions you need to make throughout the process, such as choosing an IVF centre in Bhopal or deciding how far you are willing to go financially for treatment costs, leading up to further stress levels.
It is important during this time that couples find ways of managing their emotions so they don’t become too overwhelmed by them before reaching success with IVF treatments. One strategy could be talking openly about feelings both good and bad – this helps alleviate any negative thoughts or worries while allowing partners more understanding towards each other's experiences during this difficult time.
Additionally, setting realistic expectations around outcomes from every step within your fertility journey ensures no one feels disappointed if things do not work out exactly how planned initially. Other helpful activities include taking part in relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, etc., which help reduce stress levels while providing comfort through physical activity - these should always be practiced under professional guidance if possible though!

Finally, seeking out support systems either online forums/groups where people share similar stories & advice; friends who understand what it means going through infertility treatments; counseling services offered by local hospitals like Apollo Sage; attending seminars related specifically to infertility issues - all these sources allow individuals facing similar struggles to come together & offer mutual encouragement!
All in all, navigating through an IVF cycle requires immense courage, but having access to resources mentioned above makes it easier to manage any tough times encountered along the way!

Ninety days. It is Bjorn's 90th day today and my body seem to have an internal alarm. Right after midnight, I started crying for no reason. I thought about Bjorn and checked the date. 90 days since I lost my son. A huge wave of grief just hit me. So today, I write to honor him by honoring those I am most grateful for.
Today I honor those who held my hand. Those who are not related to us by blood but have become family. And I honor those who gave me a reason to get up everyday and function. These people have stayed with me in my dark place and waited for me to come out and see the light again.
So in no particular order here they are.
Doogie, my bestfriend in HS. The first to come for me. The one who saw me first after that miscarriage. And the first in a lot of things in my life. Thank you for the beautiful words, for the sage, for showing me how to honor my son, for loving me when I truly felt unworthy and unlovable. For holding me when I felt like I am breaking apart. I cry until now when I think about that moment you walked into the hospital room. I thought, it has started. People seeing me at my lowest, at my most broken, it has become real... losing Bjorn. That you were there to mourn with me. And I could not have survived it if it was anyone else. I am glad it was you who came to me first. I am happy it was you who showed up and shared that first few quiet moments after that loss. I wouldn't want it any other way.
Darlene and Kento. Both have worked for me since Arkitekto Kolab days and they have been my biggest supporters in EVERYTHING. They have seen me fail and get back up, lose both my parents, and now Bjorn too. Darlene cries whenever I cried and of all my work babies I think it is she who has cried with me the most. Kento, whom I have loved too as my own, spends most of his time comforting me and Darlene. A true gentleman and friend. They were one of the few who I thought to call first when I lost Bjorn. And I did. Thank you Dardar and Kento for everything you have done for me and more.
Monique took care of me when I was hurting, she would show up during the oddest hours just so she can sit with me. And she has been my comfort blanket through all of this. Crying too when I cry, happy when she sees me happy. This girl has a good heart and I would want to see her truly happy because she deserves it so much. Thank you for being with me and sitting with me in the hospital, visiting Bjorn, or just trying to stay alive. I am truly blessed to have you in my life, Niq.
Jam who is on top of my list is not in the photos (for some reason, I don't have a photo of her). She is a steady and true friend. She has her own struggles with friendships but she did not let that stop her from giving and being a true friend to me. Jam, you have no idea how lucky people are to have you. And I am blessed too because you chose to stick around in my life. You came back for me and picked me up when I couldn't. You sat with me and ate peanuts with me in the hospital because it was the only human thing I can think of doing at that time. Yet, no matter how painful it was to hear me talk or see me in my darkness, you sat right there and chose to be with me.
Myk, you moron, leaving me! What am I going to do without you? Well, for a year at least. I tried my best to hide from you after the miscarriage because I thought I have told you sad stories enough. But you came with your love anyway. Accepting all my decisions, processing with me (even if I felt I did not need it), and loving me all the same even if I was being stubborn. I love you, you know that right? I am glad I have you. Please come back soon because who else would rescue me if I get stuck somewhere?
Diane (and Aiys - who is not in the photos) - my favorite brats in the whole world! Our friendship does not need to always have presence. I honestly thought I have lost you guys, but you reached out and I felt so relieved. I have lost friends along with losing my parents and Bjorn. Maybe because I secluded myself so much, maybe because it felt like I can't love anymore, or maybe because I did not want to lose anyone anymore. But in true brat fashion, you guys just snapped yourselves back in and I am all the better for it. I love you guys, immensely.
This kid volunteered to be my son. Roj. And my coach said Roj is in Bjorn's name inverted. And the more I think about it, the more I am glad I found my son in him. Roj is not a replacement, although admittedly, it was easy to see him as so. A few weeks after the miscarriage he came to me and said: "Can you be my mommy?" And boy did I cry. I agreed, of course. Who wouldn't? You see, this boy came out as bisexual during our LEAP journey and I over the weeks I found him to be a true gentleman, a hardworking kid, and a really good friend to all. I felt honored he even asked me to be his mommy. Moreover, I thought, if Bjorn came to be, I would want him to grow up and be like this boy. Thank you Rorow for calling me your mom. I needed that, it did help me get up. I had someone who was counting on me to get up and make something of myself. But more than being a son, you have been a great addition to my family. I can't wait for King and your sisters to finally meet you.
Vince and AJ. The brother and the Kuya. Vince started my LEAP journey with me and I will forever be grateful because if I wasn't LEAPing, I would have done horrible things to myself during the miscarriage. He brought me to people who saw the best in me in my worst. AJ has been with me since day 1 of grieving, he saw how broken I was even before I did and volunteered to sit with me through it all. These 2 are my most constant cheerleaders. Always rooting for me no matter what. Thank you guys, I never had kuyas but you two have been more than that to me. You guys saved me from myself. For that, I am eternally grateful.
Lionheart, Kelly, Pau, Mommy J, Lawrence the fallout (haha), Buddy Beng, and of course, my Coach, whom I love very dearly. Where do I even start? Shale, you are one hell of a woman. I don't know how you carried all of us to the finish line but you did. I love you guys with all of my heart. Thank you for loving the good, the bad, and the ugly in me.
My other Undaunted constants: Rai, Tim, Jeca, Ken, and Mau. Solid support. Grabe. Ang iyak ko parang hindi na maubos-ubos. And here I am speaking tagalog because of you lot. How do I even begin to thank each one of you? We had our crazy nights, and on my loneliest, andyan pa rin kayo. Mau, of course, is in this list because he is awesome. I am here for you guys, no matter what. In the very short time we have known each other, we have been in our most vulnerable, so bawal na unfriend sa atin. We know our worst secrets already! Hahaha
SPAM. I will never forget how you all gathered to just sit and have a drink with me. You all shared painful memories of your past when I clammed up and refused to talk for fear of ugly-crying in front all of you. But you talked anyway. It took all of my strength not to cry that night. So much so that I just burst into tears the moment I got home. I have never truly told you guys personally how I appreciate every single one of you. And I promise to take care of this friendship. I love you guys immensely. Hard to believe, but I really do. What started out as professional connection has become a full-blown friendship that I cannot undo and I refuse to undo. You guys are all blessings to me. I would have stopped being an architect, it is easy to just give up, but you guys are such a great support group, I don't know what I would do without you lot. Thank you, SPAM. I will always always always be grateful for you guys.
Chess and Kevin. My dynamic duo. Thank you for visiting me at home and allowing me to pour my heart out. Shen and Audie were there two. My A+KO babies just barged right back into my life unannounced when I was going through the toughest time in my life. I thought I didn't need it, but I am thankful now that you did. It reminds me to keep on doing good no matter how much I get hurt. Good intentions always sparks another. And I am glad I sparked something in you guys. When I needed to be reminded, you guys came at the right time.
Buck (who isn't in the photo), thank you for allowing me to grieve and go on my own. I owe you a lot. You will always be a brother to me.
And the other people in my life I failed to mention or post photo of bec of the 10-photo limit: Ate Jaqi, Doj, Shailoe, Jimbo, Jorge, Steffi, Karen, John, Miljo, Aya, Sheila, DJ, Yssa, Arvin, Yen, Kooks, & the arki thesis kids Jaje, Joseph, Apollo, Karl, & Alexa. THANK YOU. The old constant friend, the unexpected friend, the coaches, the work kids, the extended work kids, the mentees, the young architect hopefuls who seem to put so much hope in me... You guys have given me little sparks of hope everyday, giving me purpose to get up, reminding me of my good, helping me accept my not-so-good, and believing that I can be bigger than myself.
Thank you for sharing my grief and my sorrow. I am rebuilding myself everyday, and doing that has been made a little bit easier because you all exist in my life.

Smoking Herbs
This is more of an informational post, where I got the information will be linked on the x, but most of the sources are from people who have “tried” it I have no idea if they actually did and I’m not doing this for myself. Just something to note, IF YOU CAN’T FIND ANY PROFESSIONAL SOURCES FOR DOING IT, THEN DON’T DO IT!
Just so you know, smoking anything will cause damage to lungs, smoke is bad for you and you are putting your lungs at risk by smoking anything. Smoking through a plastic straw is extremely dangerous because it has toxic materials in it (Yes, people do this).
X Basil- You can smoke it, it is not toxic to smoke it and will not burn a hole through your throat or anything, but it is extremely harsh and will burn in general. The smoke will cause damage to your lungs as will anything you smoke.
X Valerian Root- For your own sake, DON’T!!!! Valerian root has an acid in it called valeric acid, it is toxic (X) while it is a seditive it also has cytotoxin in it (X) which in the name it even says it is toxic. While it is a sedative it will not act the same if you smoke it, valerian will cause chemical burn to your throat, etc..
X Sage- Sage has slightly psychoactive properties and while you can smoke it even with thujone (X) and what I have found is that thujone is in absinthe and extremely addictive (So is absinthe and the thujone is the culprit of that)
X Bay Leaves- Burning a bay leaf in general is a calming thing to have around in your room etc.. bay leaves are probably the best one to smoke (The Greeks used bay leaves to associate themselves with the God Apollo), burning it brings almost a trance like state to your body since it is a narcotic, that part is a given. Warning it can be addictive if you do it too much. (For any witches a tip for this instead of inhaling smoke you can chew bay leaves and it’s less harmful)
X Rosemary- While it is great for incense smoking it too much can cause dry mouth and headaches. It is another smokeable herb while it does not cause a buzz or addictive in any sense, it can become a habit, nothing is safe to smoke though so do be careful.
X Oregano- All that will happen is you’ll get a headache, it is pretty harsh, while it is pretty painful to smoke you won’t get any chemical burns or anything. You will get a sore throat because it is harsh to breath in and smoke isn’t really made for you to breath in the worst it will do is a shortness of breath and a pretty painful throat (X).
If you have any questions about any of this stuff please just ask me even if it on anonymous because these aren’t all of the herbs you can and can’t smoke. If you are too lazy to go looking for side effects, I will do it for you because I would rather waste my time trying to stop you from getting chemical burns than let anyone burn their throat and have to go to the hospital from not doing research.

Delta

LA / Bodies of a Different Mass
BODIES OF THE SAME MASS ADRIAN GLICK KUDLER
Everybody who really lived in L.A. was linked into the trance. Everybody knew certain boulders were fake and they knew why.-Eve Babitz, L.A. Woman
Willimina Armstrong: white Indiaphile, writer, failed cultist. She incarnated the spirits of “ancients” into her expensive collection of dolls, according to a complaint filed in 1913 by Beatrice Fuller, a former disciple. She believed old spirits animated many kinds of new bodies, including the dog Bonnie, pet of Bessie Prosser, who Willimina lived with for many years in a sandalwood-scented bungalow near Ivanhoe Canyon, flooded in the period of their residence to create the Silver Lake Reservoir.
Willimina lured visitors—many socially prominent in Los Angeles—with stories from her days as a physician to the harem of an Indian prince, before gradually revealing that they had the whole time been in the presence of the Kalki Avatara, “the living embodiment of the personality or godhead of the infinite,” arrived to shepherd in a golden age on Earth. Then she would begin asking for money. Sometimes she hypnotized them.
According to her press coverage, Willimina attended the Women’s Medical College of Philadelphia as a teenager in the 1880s and lived for seven years after in India, where, according to her, she “revealed an intellect broad in its grasp and a spirit that perceived the truth until she was adopted into the most ancient order of teachers known to mankind and declared a ‘Sage of India.’”
She spoke through the ether to Goethe and Apollo, and was the physician of the minor gods in their post-death bodies. She said the railroad magnate E.H. Harriman had discovered her divinity in the afterlife and that his ghost had literally begged to make her rich by making her followers rich so that they could pass their riches on to her.
Willimina died in 1947. She had changed her name to Zamin Ki Dost. In the 1940 census, it was recorded that she was living with a school teacher named Mattaline G. Crabtree, who was also her disciple and biographer.
She waved off the charges of her earlier disciple. “I do not know any Mrs. Fuller,” she told an LA Timesreporter in 1913, who noted that “when ... she stretched herself on the couch, and brushed her hair, which is soft and silky, back from her forehead, she appeared years younger.” “But,” she continued, “I do know to some extent a Miss Fuller. I would rather not say anything about her, because she is the daughter of a very fine man, and also on her own account.”
Willimina refused also to speak about the dolls, except to say that “A number of my friends have helped me dress these dolls ... and no one has done more beautiful work or which I appreciate more than the work done by Miss Fuller. She crocheted little silk socks and tiny woollen petticoats for a whole lot of the littlest ones.”

Doris Duke: the Richest Girl in the World. Died—possibly murdered—in 1993, at 80, surrounded by four huge guard dogs, her maid, her lawyer, and her butler, in the master bedroom at Falcon Lair, the mansion that Rudolph Valentino built in Benedict Canyon in the last years of his life. Doris bought Falcon Lair in the 1950s and after that she split her long, idle year among Los Angeles, Hawaii, Duke Farms in New Jersey, and Rough Point in Newport. At Rough Point, staff cleaned up the shit of two camels that shared the house with Doris, gifts from a Saudi billionaire.
She was close with the actress Sharon Tate, who became her neighbor in Benedict Canyon for a very short time at the very end of the 1960s; she believed Tate was the reincarnation of her child with the surfer Duke Kahanamoku. Arden: who had been born prematurely and died immediately.
Doris’s father, James Buchanan Duke, inherited a tobacco company from his father, and he acquired others until he was selling cigarettes to 90 percent of American smokers. When he died in 1925, when Doris was 12, he left her $100 million. Doris sued her mother at 15, briefly married first a Philadelphia socialite and then a polo player, had her own 737, paid Martha Graham to give her in-home movement lessons, supposedly bedded General George S. Patton, put up $5 million to bail out Imelda Marcos when she was indicted for looting the Philippines, accidentally crushed her interior designer to death under her car, and supposedly liked to say “You can’t buy a person, but you sure can rent one for a while.”
In 1988, she adopted Chandi Heffner, a 35-year-old blonde woman and follower of Hare Krishna who she had met in a dance class. Some people say they were lovers, or that Doris thought Chandi was another reincarnation of Arden. Chandi introduced Doris to Bernard Lafferty, Peggy Lee’s personal assistant, who “began to fill Miss Duke's head with all sorts of conspiracy theories” about Chandi, Doris’s chef swore years later in an affidavit. One day in Hawaii, Doris told Chandi she was going to the dentist, then flew to Los Angeles while her staff evicted her daughter.
Lafferty was born in Ireland and moved to Philadelphia at 17, after his parents died, to live with his aunt. He became Doris’s butler in the mid-1980s and, depending on who you listen to, perhaps her dear companion. He reportedly grew his ponytail at her request; he made her feel young.
Two LA Timesreporters later made an accounting of Doris’s appearance in these years: “Her hair was too blonde for her years. And while the skin of her long, narrow face was taut as a 30-year-old's, heavy lipstick accented an almost ghoulish droop of her mouth.”
Doris had a facelift at Cedars-Sinai in the spring of 1992. Over the next year and a half, she was repeatedly admitted to Cedars under the name “Norma Jane” (a mishearing of “Norma Jean”): for a broken hip, anemia, knee replacements, two strokes, and another knee replacement—with the hope she’d be able to dance again. At some point, from her hospital bed, she signed a new will that named Lafferty executor and left him $5 million in fees and $500,000 a year for life.
Doris went home to Falcon Lair for good in late September 1993, and lived her last days in bed, pumped full of morphine “through a tube that Duke had nicknamed Tallulah,” according to People. She died in the early morning on October 28 and was cremated by the next day. No autopsy was performed.
Her ashes were brought in turn to each of her four houses, which were kept staffed to await her reincarnation. Lafferty expanded the master bedroom at Falcon Lair and shopped at Armani, Cartier, and Louis Vuitton. He bought two miniature horses as companions for the last camel left living at Rough Point.
Several parties challenged the will. Their star witness was Tammy Payette, a veteran of the Gulf War and one of Doris’s six private nurses in her last days at Falcon Lair, who alleged that Lafferty and Doris’s doctor had murdered her with morphine and Demerol.
Chandi eventually won $65.8 million, in exchange for her eternal silence about Doris Duke. Today she has a nonprofit with the mission to provide medical care and other services to humans and animals in India. In May 1996, Lafferty took $4.5 million and $500,000 a year for life, in exchange for giving up his executor role. He died that November, alone, in his mansion in Benedict Canyon, decorated with photos of Doris.
Off a tip from private detectives working for the Duke estate, Tammy Payette was arrested outside a pawn shop on Rodeo Drive in 1995, at 28. She was sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing diamond cufflinks, sterling silver corn holders, and more from seven of her rich patients. Prosecutors said she sold much of it and used the money to buy a car and furniture, and to take vacations. She pleaded guilty to everything, except the accusation that she had stolen diamond and pearl necklaces, jade eagles, and other jewelry from Doris. She said those had been given to her by Lafferty in exchange for her silence about Doris’s death.
Of the rest of her patients, she said, “They were so wealthy. I thought they weren't going to miss it.”

At the end of July 1899, a man’s body arrived at C.D. Howry’s morgue in Downtown Los Angeles, about a mile from here. On July 21, the man had been registered at the Woodland lodging house on Main Street under the name Mr. Reither, but a journal found with his few possessions was inscribed “L. Reuther.” “I went up to Mt. Lowe, and the trip was worth the price,” he wrote a few days before every crevice in his room was plugged up and the gas turned on. “$2—one day’s life—for I have set the limit of my life to coincide with the exhaustion of my funds, and I have but very little.”
The register of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco showed that Reuther had checked in on July 14, giving Chicago as his place of residence, and left on July 19 on a steamer boat to San Diego. He showed up in Los Angeles two days later.
For a week after his death his body lay unclaimed in the morgue. But then, somehow, word began to get around that there was a body at Howry’s that looked very much like a St. Louis man named Aaron Wolfsohn, who had been through town the previous March on business for a Philadelphia ribbon firm. An anonymous woman acquaintance of Wolfsohn’s visited the morgue and strenuously confirmed the dead body was his. S.A.D. Jones, an agent of the New York Life Insurance Company, went to look at the body out of what he would later say was “sheer curiosity,” but was “struck with the resemblance” to Wolfsohn, who he said had bought a $10,000 life insurance policy from him that spring while staying as a guest at the Nadeau Hotel at First and Spring.
Wolfsohn told Jones that he intended to marry soon, and to start a business, and to get the capital for the business from his new wife. He was examined twice, possibly, by a Dr. Carl Kurtz. The first time in March, when he was alive, at his hotel room, in the company of a woman named Margaret O’Neil. The second time in August, as a corpse. Kurtz was nearly, but not entirely, convinced that the body was Wolfsohn’s. No autopsy was performed.
Wolfsohn never paid for his policy. He gave Jones an IOU, signed twice—once by Aaron Wolfsohn and once by Arthur Wolfson, “which he said he had adopted as being more convenient and not so suggestive of his Hebraic ancestry,” theLA Timesreported. Later a lawyer for the New York Life Insurance Company would insist that the company had failed to collect from Wolfsohn in Philadelphia and that Wolfsohn, annoyed, ripped up the policy and assumed he had nullified it. But he hadn’t.
Wolfsohn’s St. Louis relatives, on notification of his death, had refused to pay for his funeral, and his father, who he’d had a falling out with a few years before, told Howry to hand the body over to the Jewish Benevolent Association. The anonymous woman at this time stepped in and paid for a burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Los Angeles Public Administrator C.G. Kellogg took over administration of the estate and in November took payment from the New York Life Insurance Company of $10,000.
A week later, the New York Life Insurance Company said Aaron Wolfsohn was alive. “There is nothing whatever to conceal about the matter,” Jones the Los Angeles agent told the LA Times.
At this point, May O’Neil, San Francisco widow of comfortable but not extravagant means, came forward as the mystery woman who had paid for the funeral of the man she was “thoroughly convinced was none other than Aaron Wolfsohn ... Although more than a week had passed since death, and the face was somewhat discolored and distorted, the features were unmistakably those of my lifelong friend.”
She said they had been schoolmates in the Midwest, but hadn’t seen each other in years, until they crossed paths in Los Angeles in March. She said she had seen him off on the train to Philadelphia. “I did nothing that I need be ashamed of, nor anything I would boast of,” she said.
Howry then revealed that O’Neil intended to put in a claim against Wolfsohn’s estate for $1,000 of the insurance money; she later told the newspaper that she asked for so much because “she knew the Wolfsohns were of a race that likes to bargain and she expected to be ‘jewed down.’”
For a month, all the parties involved argued among themselves about the mortal state of Aaron Wolfsohn. On December 30, the man arrived in Los Angeles.
He “posed and strutted,” according to the newspaper, and said that before November 18 he had been in Europe for six months, as a representative of “a big London commercial house.” When a reporter asked him what he did for a living, “after floundering about for a moment, [he] swelled up and said he was a ‘promoter’ and traveled for himself.”
“My acquaintance with her was limited to three days, and I am only sorry it was not briefer,” he said of May. On the first day, he met her on a streetcar. The next day, they met at a hotel (evidently the Nadeau). On the third day, “they boarded a train together and traveled to Kansas City.”
A reporter tipped off May that Wolfsohn was staying at the Van Nuys hotel and she was waiting to meet him when he returned with Edward O’Bryan, attorney for the New York Life Insurance Company. When O’Bryan saw her, he told Wolfsohn to run. Wolfsohn ran.
He skipped town, but returned soon after, and the public administrator finally agreed that Aaron Wolfsohn was himself, and alive. The matter was clinched in part by an affidavit from Rosa Blumenthal, Wolfsohn’s cousin and fiancee, who stated that she “was informed on or about August 1, 1899, that Aaron had committed suicide in Los Angeles, and that she believed him dead and mourned him as such until November 19 of the same year.” Public Administrator Kellogg gave the $10,000 back to the New York Life Insurance Company, less attorney fees and expenses.
No more was reported about May O’Neil. Wolfsohn had a happy reunion with his family, including his father. “No trace of the old animosity remained.” S.A.D. Jones died of dysentery in Hawaii in 1904. His obituary said he’d lost his job and moved to San Francisco after the Wolfsohn affair. “The company is satisfied to recover its money,” said Edward O’Bryan. “The identity of the dead man or why he was palmed off as Wolfsohn does not interest us now.”
“The deceased ... like Aaron Wolfsohn,” wrote a lawyer for the public administrator during the long confusion, “was a circumcised Jew, being about the same age, having the same color of hair and eyes, the same complexion, the same height...” Someone had cut off the ends of his long mustache and combed his hair like Wolfsohn’s, but his landlord, Mrs. Collins, described him “as a quiet, studious, reserved and melancholy man, and not a fresh dude like Wolfsohn.”
A few days before he died, the dead man wrote in his journal: “I shortened my life another day by buying ‘The Market Place,’ by Harold Frederic. I think the book is overrated. After reading it I exchanged it for ‘Tekla,’ by Barr. It is a good story. In both these books the women are rather neglected. I read books every day. They act on me as a narcotic. I dope myself with them. They make me forget for a moment, for there is a continual struggle going on—to be or not to be.”
