#I was reading the wiki about William Penn today#the dude was.....an interesting character#had a lot of really radical ideas for his time#like freedom of religion and respecting minority's. And not fucking over Native Americans#hes also credited with being one of the first ppl to come up with the concept of a European Union#A lot of his writings and ideas were used in making the first US constitution#BUT#he was also an idiot and a terrible businessman#he literally signed away his ownership of Pennsylvania without realizing it because he never read documents that were put in front of him#he had a lot of friends but was also a terrible judge of character#he had a lot of kids (most died in childhood) but his only living son from his first marriage was deadbeat that had huge gambling debt#and his kids from his 2nd marriage that lived to adulthood fucked over the Lenape tribe#Anyway William Penn died penniless at 73
