Ah, yes
Nothing quite like the panic of thinking you have another week to get ready for the Midnight Masquerade, only to realize it's tomorrow, and your costume is only half finished :)

In My Dreams (Will You Remember Me?)
Flower Husbands Fic - Chapter Four - The hues in our hair compliment one another
Ao3 in the comments
Jimmy watches as the guests walk in, gawking at the decorations that he, Katherine and Gem put so much effort into. Pride fills his chest - a week of hard work paying off in happy citizens and rulers alike. Jimmy nods politely to Iris as they walk in, he knows that being one of Pix’s advisors means that the dryad doesn’t get much time off, so he hopes that they enjoy themself.
A group of dryads bow to him before they disappear into the crowd, which makes him happy - he’s still recognisable with the mask that Katherine gave him. It’s a standard masquerade mask, though it has small cod painted on it in bronze paint, though it has a white veil attached the the lower half to cover his face. It was nice of Katherine, to remember that he prefers to hide his face.
He feels safe with his face hidden.
Jimmy watches as a young woman in a black cloak comes in, and an axolotl hybrid from his empire chats with a man from Mezalea. He’s glad that they opened to ball not only to the leaders of the empires but their citizens as well, and a fae man in a forest green vest dances with a spirit in a ribbon skirt.
The doors open, distracting Jimmy from people watching for a moment.
Lizzie walks in, the necklace around her neck shimmering in the glow from the purple lanterns. Jimmy watches as everyone gawks at the wedding gift that he gave her - it’s rare to see her wear it out of battle. The necklace has two axolotls, one made of rose quartz and the other of red jasper, curled around a pearl and inset in silver. It was handcrafted by the finest artisans of the Cod Empire, and Jimmy himself carefully enchanted it with healing and protection.
The best wedding gift she received, if Jimmy does say so himself.
“You clean up nicely, did Katherine give you that suit?” Lizzie teases, pointedly ignoring the stares she receives as she walks across the room to him.
“You’ll find that your husband did, for your wedding.” Jimmy smiles. “Though I did get it altered slightly for the party.”
“You didn’t put slime in it, did you?”
“Lizzie!” Jimmy gasps, pushing his sisters arm in rage. She laughs, ignoring his fake rage.
“I’m very glad you ditched the cod head.” She says. “I think Katherine would have killed you.”
“She actually gave me this mask.” Jimmy admits.
“Ohh, look at Scott’s outfit.” Lizzie says, and Jimmy turns back to the crowd.
Scott stands next to Joey, looking mildly uncomfortable. The king of the lost empire wears a red suit with a black crown, rubies and jaspers adorning it. But Joey’s outfit pales in comparison to the one that Scott wears.
Scott’s wearing an intricate white top, with long sleeves that bell out at the end. He has a high waisted skirt, fading from a sky blue into a deep, ocean blue. He looks like he’s stepped out of a high fantasy story, a golden crown shimmering in his blue hair. He looks stunning, making Jimmy feel almost as though he’s underdressed.
Scott makes eye contact with Joey, an emotion Jimmy doesn’t understand flashes in Scott’s eyes as he walks over to Jimmy.
“Lizzie, I think I’ve made him angry.” Jimmy mumbles, breaking eye contact with Scott.
“He’s your land boy, you work it out.” Lizzie says. “I need to go find my land boy.”
“Scott isn’t mine, Lizzie - Don’t leave me!” Jimmy protests, but it’s already too late, the queen of the ocean has left Jimmy to whatever fate Scott has planned for him.
Hopefully Lizzie will hold a nice funeral for him.
“You look nice.” Scott says softly, barely audible over the music.
“Oh, thank you.” Jimmy says, the back of his neck reddening. “You clearly outclass everyone here.”
“You really think so?” Scott asks, his face red. Poor Scott, he mustn’t get complimented often.
“I know so.” Jimmy smiles, though the man can’t see it.
“Could I ask you to dance?” Scott asks, offering Jimmy his hand. Jimmy blinks in surprise, looking into Scott’s eyes in shock. The elven man’s eyes glitter in the lantern light, light and full of something Jimmy can’t quite place.
Even so, Jimmy puts his hand into Scott’s, and lets the man pull him into a dance.
Scott’s hand rests on Jimmy’s waist, and Jimmy puts his hand on Scott’s shoulder, letting him lead. Scott, thankfully, doesn’t mention when Jimmy steps on his feet, the king just mumbling instructions to Jimmy as he leads them.
“You teach dances like this often?” Jimmy asks breathlessly, trying to concentrate on not stepping on Scott’s feet.
“No, I don’t. I don’t think I’m even teaching you this correctly.” Scott admits. “I’m not even sure this is a real dance.”
“This feels pretty real to me.” Jimmy says, his heart picking up. “Kind of familiar, like I’ve done it in a dream, but real?”
“This is dreamlike?” Scott asks, cocking an eyebrow.
“Yeah.” Jimmy admits. “Do you think we could spin with this dance.”
“If you want to, then of course.” Scott says, spinning Jimmy around.
Jimmy giggles slightly, breathless as his hand falls onto Scott’s shoulder again. Scott leads them again, and Jimmy lets his feet go without thinking. It’s like the dance he had in his nightmare, with his shadow husband. Scott’s hand on his waist is comforting, a promise of safety, in a party of peace.
The music slows and they stop, breathless and hearts hammering. Jimmy takes his hand off of Scott’s shoulder, pulling away from his dance partner.
“I’m going to get a drink, you coming?” Jimmy offers. Maybe this could end with a new ally, a new friend.
“I need some air.” Scott admits, rubbing the back of his neck as though he’s nervous. “I’ll see you later?”
“See you soon.” Jimmy promises, smiling brightly at the elf.
The other man just nods, walking out of the room and up the stairs. Jimmy moves off of the dancefloor, avoiding bumping into people as he makes his way to the table, picking a prawn off of the table to eat while he looks for something to drink.
“Enjoying the food?” Pearl asks, startling Jimmy.
“It’s nice.” Jimmy says. “I love the prawns.”
“Thank you! I was hoping to get something from every empire.” Pearl says. “I’m glad I got something for you and Lizzie. Your empires were the hardest.”
“Oh, I’m sorry! I could have helped.” Jimmy apologises.
“Don’t be. Be more sorry that you didn’t tell Katherine about you and Scott. She’s rather excited that the prospect of you two being together.”
“What?” Jimmy asks, blinking.
“Oh, if it’s supposed to be a secret I’ll tell her to leave you two alone.” Pearl says, laughing. “Next time, though, don’t dance in a public ball like that. Rumours will spread!”
Jimmy stands confused, staring at the space that Pearl used to be in. He must be tired, why would anyone start a rumour about him and Scott? There’s nothing to talk about. They’re potentially friends, barely aquantinces.
“I should find Scott.” Jimmy mumbles, walking in a daze towards the stairs. Scott must be on the balcony, right?
“Jimmy!” Pixl says, relief on his face. “You need to come with me. We’re leaving.”
“What?” Jimmy asks incredulously. “Why are we leaving?”
“Emergency at Lizzie’s empire, she’s asked that we both attend.” Pixl says, grabbing Jimmy’s hand and dragging him out.
“What’s the emergency?” Jimmy asks, waving goodbye to Pearl and Gem at the door. The two of them share relieved looks as Pixl drags Jimmy further away.
Lizzie and Joel stand in the middle of the courtyard, holding a spare pair of elytra that they put of Jimmy’s shoulders as Pixl straps himself into his own elytra. Jimmy straps the elytra on, wriggling uncomfortably.
“What’s going on?”
“Gem told us to go home.” Lizzie says. “Sausage and Fwip are up to no good, apparently.”
“Pixl said that there was an emergency at your empire?”
“I lied.” Pixl says. “Don’t look at me like that, you wouldn’t have come otherwise!”
“Look as funny as this is we have to go.” Joel says, pushing Jimmy and Pixl slightly.
The group takes off, flying into the sky. Guilt eats at Jimmy the further they fly away, and he turns back to look at the hall. Did anyone warn Scott that Sausage and Fwip were up to something?
He broke his promise to Scott.
----
“You look cute in the bunker.” The shadow says, sitting on the roof. Jimmy can just barely see out of it, and he knows that his husband wouldn’t be able to see at all.
“Shouldn’t you be preparing for battle?” Jimmy asks. “You don’t want to die.”
“I’m on my green life. I’m fine.” His husband says. “You’re the one we’ve got to worry about. Burning Dogwarts banner, really poppy?”
“I don’t want to see you sacrificed on any altar, petal.” Jimmy responds easily. “I’ll be fine, the bunker is safe and there’s an emergency exit.”
“Promise me you’ll come home.” His husband asks, standing up.
“For you? Of course.” Jimmy responds. “In sickness and health. You’ll always have me by your side.”
Jimmy watches as the shadow people fight. It’s dreamlike, unreal to him. Swords clash and fires spread across a desert stained in blood. The dogwarts banner flies and burns and his allies are so outnumber it won’t ever be fair.
And a scream tears from his throat as his husband is shot.
His body dissipates, he’s not dead. Not permanently, but something is wrong. This world mustn’t have respawn, not the infinite respawn that it’s supposed to. Green life. First life.
The love of his life is dead. He will come back, but he’s dead now.
“We want that banner!” A man yells, an enemy. There isn’t any winning this. He needs to get to him, to his husband, to his petal.
He’s shot through the throat on the ladder to the escape route.
Jimmy's screams echo through his empire. Not for the first time does he long for the embrace of someone who isn't even real

Thorns & Roses (2)
Tumblr media
Pairings: Tyler Lockwood x Reader / Damon Salvatore!Brother x Reader / Stefan Salvatore!Twin Brother x Reader
Summary: After 50 years, your brothers asked you to come back to Mystic Falls. Katherine seemed to be back again, which is why they both worried about you and want to keep an eye on you. While your brothers tried to find Katherine, you came closer to a greater danger then a psychopathic vampire. A Werewolf.
Chapter Summary:  After Katherine revealed herself to Caroline again, you now knew that she would be at the Masquerade Ball too. Katherine wanted the moonstone, but you and your brothers wouldn't let that happen. Even if they didn't want to let you in on their plan, they finally did and you went to the ball together to get rid of her once and for all. When you met Katherine, it became clear that the moonstone wasn’t her only target - you had to protect Tyler at all costs.

Authors Note: This is Part Two of Thorns & Roses, I had to re-write it. I hope you liked it. (Part One: Here!)
_____________________________________
A bit later you arrived at the ball, accompanied by Jeremy Gilbert, who was also privy to the plan. The Lockwood Mansion was beautifully decorated, Carol or the party planners really exceeded all expectations. From the outside you could already see how well the family was and how important the evening would be for the Lockwoods.
You could feel some looks piercing you both. One especially, as you looked at the entrance to the Lockwood Mansion. Tyler was visibly confused why you would show up with Jeremy, since you knew that the two didn't get along very well.
Jeremy also noticed Tyler's penetrating gaze. "I thought you were just friends, is there finally more now?" he grinned.
You took your mask (X) out of your pocket and put it on. “Don’t be like that, Jer!”  You chuckled.
To Tyler's displeasure too, you and Jeremy were also friends. It was hard to avoid since he was the brother of your Twin's girlfriend. You decided to stay out of their argument as much as possible. But it wasn't always easy to do justice to both friends.
But unlike Tyler, Jeremy knew your secrets. Jeremy knew you were a Vampire and he knew that Tyler was more than just a friend to you and even if the two didn't particularly like each other, Jeremy accepted your feelings and was there for you, because no one else should know how you felt about Tyler. It was nice to have someone from whom you didn't have to keep any secrets.
______________
Jeremy noticed how nervous you were getting with every step you took towards the entrance.
“You ready?” Jeremy asked you, you nodded. “Are you afraid?”
You probably wouldn't admit it to anyone, but you couldn’t really describe your feelings. Today the day had finally come when you and your brothers could finally free yourselves from Katherine. Meanwhile you found yourself on a beautiful Masquerade Ball that you could hardly enjoy, since you would use every free second to make sure Tyler is safe while he’d be flirting with other girls.
“Not of Katherine. She tried to kill me before and failed.” You took Jeremy’s arm. “But I know that something bad is going to happen, I feel it.” You mumbled.
“Gilbert, who’s your stunning partner?” Tyler complimented you while also trying to provoke.
Tyler didn’t looked bad himself, actually he looked really handsome as he faced you in his black suit, it was hard not to stare at him for too long.
You could see how Jer’ rolled his eyes under his mask. “I’ll get us something to drink.”
Now it was time to stick to the plan, find Katherine, distract her and kill her. But when you noticed Tyler's eyes watching Jeremy go, with the corners of his mouth drawn down as he tried to hide his fist, the plan had to wait a second
“Don’t tell me you’re mad because I invited Jeremy.”
“I’m not, I-”
“Hi Tyler, I looked everywhere for you.” Sarah took his hand and smiled flirty.
Suddenly you felt insecure to see Sarah cuddle up to Tyler, it hurt but of course you didn't want anyone to notice, so you did what you could best and turned your pain into anger.
You placed your arm on your hip and your facial features changed.
“Y/N, it’s not like that-”
“Hmh.” You let out and walked passed them, hitting Tyler’s shoulder, then you stopped and turned around.
Even if you were confused about why Tyler was upset with you inviting Jeremy when he was with Sarah, you were more hurt that the others were right, Tyler flirted with everyone and didn't even hide it. He had no right to be mad at you if Sarah was his companion, whom he would probably replace with some other cheerleader later that night.
“You can forget our movie night tomorrow.”
Sarah covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. The moment you said it you wanted to take it back. But now there was no turning back, with faked self-confidence you walked away from them and went in search of Katherine.
______________
After you were out of Tyler's sight, you moved into a corner where no one could see you and took a deep breath. The moment didn't last long, Jeremy found you, luckily, really with drinks in his hands.
Jeremy noticed that something must’ve happened, “Did he become a werewolf yet?”
You took both glasses and emptied them one by one. Jeremy chuckled. “What? You’re under age and I needed it, thanks by the way.”
Jeremy saw Tyler coming inside with Sarah, “Because of-”
“Yeah, lets not talk about that. We’ve a mission, shall we?”
“You should’ve seen the food first, before we die.” Jeremy tried to be funny as he lent you his arm, he made you smile and Tyler noticed from across the room.
______________
Jeremy and you went into the huge Lockwoods garden, which was just as crowded as the house with handsome people, who wouldn't suspect there were vampires among them. They all danced, talked and drunk happily. For a brief moment you wish you were like them, normal.
Jeremy got you out of your thoughts, “You see them?” he asked looking around.
“Well, that’s the fork in the road between you and me, my friend.”
“I hear Damon, look for Caroline and Bonnie.” You commanded while walking to your brothers.
“I don’t hesitate.”
You chuckled. “You sure about that, Brother? I mean you spent 145 years loving her.”
Stefan nodded. “Exactly.”
Damon seemed offended. “I won’t hesitate.”
“Don’t worry, if you will, I definetly won’t.” You kissed his cheek. “Now find her.” You demanded.
“Did I say I missed her?” Damon questioned himself and Stefan couldn’t resist chuckling.
______________
You decide to go back into the house looking for Katherine there while your brothers would look for her outside. You found yourself in the kitchen and Jeremy was right, the food was delicious and so was Carol’s wine you found under the sink.  It wouldn't hurt to open the bottle of wine, even a broken bottle could hurt Katherine, if needed.
The kitchen door opened and you tried to hide the wine bottle behind your back. If the waiters come you would compell them to forget what they saw but it was Tyler.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Is that my mom’s wine?” He raised an eyebrow.
You stopped hiding the bottle and took a sip to provoke him. “Nope.” You lied.
Tyler smirked and lifted his hand up. You gave him the bottle and rolled your eyes.
He surprised you when he took a sip from the bottle himself. "Now I know why she's been hiding this one for years now." he made you both laugh. “Now there it is.”
When you realized that Tyler meant your smile, you stopped and put on a more serious expression. You couldn’t hide your reddened cheeks though. Visibly ashamed, you looked at the floor and tried to think about how you could get out of here to get Tyler out of the way.
“I’m sorry I forgot movie night.” You ignored his words. He came closer to you and gave you the bottle back, “Did I mention how beautiful you look?”
“Stop that and go back to Sarah.”
“Do I smell jealousy?”
“No. That’s me not caring about your affairs, at all.” You exclaimed.
He bit his lips. “Okay come on.” Tyler grabbed your hand, even though you tried to get him off, he wouldn’t let go. “You owe me a dance.”
You and Tyler went to his father's office, the only room where it was quiet and nobody would disturb, including the only room you were never allowed to enter.
“Tyler, I’ve no time for this. I need to find my brothers.”
You were about to leave the room, but Tyler got in your way. His eyes fixed yours and it seemed impossible to look away. He placed his Hand gently on your cheek. It felt so soft and warm, you wouldn't have expected that from a footballer. You couldn't help but put your head in his hand. It calmed you down and made you feel safe.
“If you don’t want me to see other girls, just say-”
“Hey guys!” Matt thrust in and ruined the moment.
Matt stormed into the office with Amy and Sarah. Uncomfortable and somehow ashamed you took a few steps back, away from Tyler, who was visibly annoyed by Matt's appearance. They had a few bottles in their arms and Matt was already quite drunk.
“Did we interrupt something?” Amy giggled with Matt.
When you saw how jealous Sarah was, you remembered that you were actually on a mission to get rid of another jealous woman in your life, so you had no time to deal with her now
“I’ll see you later. Have fun.” You mumbled.
You passed Tyler who tried to grab your hand, but there was no more than a brief touch. You felt how he looked after you, but there was also no time to look back.
______________
So far the evening has not gone as planned, you didn’t have much time to look for Katherine and it wasn’t easy to concentrate after what just happened in the office - or rather what didn’t happen. Your own jealousy got in the way of your senses until you saw Bonnie walking up the stairs, they found Katherine.
To make sure Katherine wouldn't follow or kill Bonnie, you went up too.
“Did you find her?”
Jeremy joined and you three went to another room, he put a bag on the table and took out the guns.
“Careful with that.” You responded as he jokingly pointed at you. “I’m still faster.” You showed your fangs and smirked.
“Is that?” Jeremy noticed Bonnie’s spell book.
“Yes, it was my ancestor Emily’s.” She confirmed. “The spell I’m doing here is similar to the one that sealed the vampires into the tomb.”
You looked out of the window and clenched your teeth, “I’ll kill him.” Jeremy walked next to you and saw Katherine and Stefan dancing together.
“Bon’, I think you should hurry.” He suggested.
“I’m gonna go get Damon.” You growled.
______________
Finding Damon wasn't difficult, he was just about to tell Caroline what she had to do. Then he escorted you outside.
“Relax, he’s keeping her distracted.”
You crossed your arms, “he could just do that by breaking her neck and dragging her upstairs.” you replied sarcastically.
From far away you could watch the two of them, but not hear them. It was too loud for that. When they suddenly stopped dancing while the music was still playing, you knew something was wrong.
“Y/N, I think it might be your time to shine now.” Damon gave you one last glance, then he walked away.
______________
Katherine was about to walk in your direction, now you had to get her attention as Bonnie wasn't finished with her spell yet. Damon withdrew into the crowd so it wouldn’t be too suspicious but he stayed close enough to step in if he had to.
You took off your mask and stood next to the entrance. You grabbed a waiter and pretended to be talking to him.
“Well, if that isn’t my favorite Twin.” Katherine smirked as she noticed you. “Go away.” She compelled the waiter.
You scoffed. “Thought you just danced with your favorite.”
She crossed her arms, “Nah. Unfortunately, your brother doesn't seem to like me as much as he used to, is that Elena’s or your fault?” Kathrine had to chuckle, it made you shiver not being allowed to rip her heart out. “Either way, I’m planning to get rid of both of you.”
You faked a laugh. “Clearly, you don’t remember our time together, don’t you know how hard it is to get rid of me, Katherine?”
Katherine gave you one of her outrageous smiles. Her smile still seemed inviting and warm, even if you knew she was the devil, you were sure she could still be your brothers' Kryptonite.
“Have fun with you Wolfie, heard you liked him a bit too much.” She winked at you.
You grabbed her arm and pushed her against the wall. “You should know better than provoking me, Katherine. If you even touch Tyler, I'll tear your head off your shoulders.”
Katherine took your arm, it didn't seem easy for her, but in the end she was able to tear herself away from you. "Y/N, dear, people are already looking at us. Where are your manners?" She looked around and came closer to your ear. “That must be the bad influence of Tyler.” She whispered only to provoke you once more now that she knew, you weren’t as strong as her.
Katherine went inside and the guests were still staring at you. While your blood was boiling inside and you wanted nothing more than to get rid of Katherine, Jeremy appeared in the crowd.
“What just happened?”
“Nothing, tell me Bonnie is ready or I’ll have to make a scene again.” You replied and Jeremy nodded. “Good. If something happens, call me. I need to find Tyler.”
______________
When you were inside you looked for Tyler all over the place and still couldn’t find him, until you realized that they could probably still be in his father's office.
You rushed into the office and as you saw Tyler, Matt and even Sarah you were relieved. “You okay, Ty?” You panted and glanced at him.
Tyler nodded and walked over to you, touching your shoulders and seeming more concerned about you. "Are you okay?"
Even if you were good at hiding feelings, you were glad that Katherine’s words were just empty threats, because you were already afraid that she would target Tyler. But when you knew everything was okay, you smiled and let yourself fall into Tyler's arms.
Matt gulped. “Oh isn’t that cute?”
Tyler rolled his eyes and turned around, “Man, what is your problem?”
“Nothing.” Matt replied taking another sip of the glass in his hand while holding a bottle in his other. “I just think you both are funny.”
You too thought Matt's behavior was strange. Tyler turned back to you and tried to ignore Matt. “Wanna go dance now?” He smiled soft and offered his hand.
Matt couldn't hold back his laugh and it seemed that he deliberately spilled a bottle of gin in Tyler's father's office. “Aren’t you two cute?”
“Matt, please stop.” You asked politely. “You know, you can just go to Caroline and ask her to dance too. Maybe then you stop being a dick.”
“Seem’s like you finally have a voice around Tyler.” He chuckled.
You were uncomfortable with Matt's comment but he was right. You were actually very self-confident, but when it came to Tyler, not so much. The friendship was very important to you, but if you confessed your feelings and Tyler didn't feel the same, the friendship would be gone.
“Maybe you should grab some food before you ask her.” Tyler added.
Matt took the family picture that was on the desk and poured gin on it, which made Tyler even more angry. When Matt stopped he was standing in front of Tyler, whom you were holding back.
Tyler squeezed your hand, to assure you he’d not gonna hurt Matt. “I’m not gonna fight you.”
Matt slapped him in the face with a grin. "It's a party man. I'm just kidding." Then he looked at the picture in his hand and hit Tyler again, "Do you remember how your father used to hit you?" He laughed.
You noticed how Tyler could no longer contain himself and so you walked between the two.
“If you say one word now, I’m going to lose it. So go and look for Caroline before you ruin your friendships too.”
“Say’s the girl, dressed like a-” Matt paused and grinned again. “while she just watches how the guy she wants flirts with other women and doesn't even look at her.”
“That’s it!” Tyler growled.
Before Tyler had the chance to come to Matt, you slapped Matt and he fell to the ground knocked out. At that moment you could put the pieces together, Matt's behavior was Katherine's fault. She had compelled him otherwise this wouldn’t make sense but you couldn’t figure out why.
“How did you do that?” Tyler was surprised. You didn’t look like you could knock someone out so effortless.
“Matt failed. If Matt fails, I can’t.” Sarah mumbled.
You looked at her and noticed a knife. “Tyler, look out!”
Tyler turned and Sarah stabbed him in the shoulder. Tyler slapped her away. Sarah landed with her head on the edge of the desk and fell to the floor. Blood slowly poured out of her head.
You tried to hide your face from Tyler when the smell of blood reached your nose. He ran to her and held Sarah's head, trying to stop the bleeding. He mumbled things to himself.
“This can’t be happening!” Tyler panicked.
His heart thudded in his chest. His hands shook. As you could control you face again, you went to Sarah and tried to feel a pulse. But she was dead. He couldn’t look at Sarah any more, he sat in a corner and clutched his hand. He seemed like be choked as he had trouble to breath.
You walked over to him and took his hand, "It's going to be okay, we can fix it.”
“We can’t fix this.” His eyes began to glow in a yellow shade.
Tyler began to growl. He cramped and got on his knees. You got up and took a few steps back while Tyler was on the floor whimpering and growling at the same time.
“What can I do?!” You shouted trying not to cry.
Suddenly it came back to you, The Werewolf Curse. If Tyler killed someone, no matter how, he was going to be a werewolf. That was Katherine's plan, Tyler, the one you loved should be your greatest danger and your death.
Tyler calmed down and even though he could probably kill you, you went over to him and wrapped your arms around him. You helped him get up and told him to go into his room and wait for you.

"Will You Be My Valentine?" [Peter Maximoff × Reader]
Author’s Note: I know it’s not Valentine’s Day yet, but I think we could all do with some Quicksilver FLUFF! Word Count: 1.6 K Warnings/Rating: T; FLUFF, like two cuss words, reader is salty
Tumblr media
Enjoy!!
Valentine’s Day was still over a month away, yet you were already starting to feel the irritating pain of the headache it always brought on. It started when Jubilee brought up your least favorite holiday in Professor McCoy’s science class one day asking whether or not the School could have a Valentine’s dance. That actually caught your attention when nothing else spoken in that class ever had. “Why would you want to celebrate that? Valentine’s Day is just a scam by greeting card companies to sell more cards and overly-priced chocolate to poor suckers that fall for such corporate commercialism. It’s not about love.” You said tartly -McCoy was just surprised you were participating, so much so he gave you bonus points. Jubilee made a sour face though and stuck her tongue out at you. “It is not, you’ve just never had a Valentine’s.” McCoy stepped in before anything was said to hurt feelings, but you just shrugged. It was true. “Actually, Valentine’s Day is in remembrance of St. Valentine-” You stopped listening after that.
That same afternoon, once all your classes were finished and you’d gone back to your room for awhile before dinner, you received the second aggravating Valentine’s surprise. Already. With a month to go. Jean burst in the room and threw an envelope down on top of your desk before plopping down on your bed.
“What is this?”
“I don’t know. I was told to give it to you.” You opened the envelope and pulled out an obscenely glittery pink greeting card with hearts drawn all over the front. The inside said ‘Heard you hate Valentine’s. Happy Fake Love Holiday. Love, Your Secret Admirer.“ Your face blushed a deep red that rivalled the card; luckily Jean was almost asleep. "Who is this from?”
“I don’t know.” In your mind, you hoped it was Warren, but you weren’t holding your breath. He’d also been in McCoy’s class during the conversation, but he’d been asleep with his head thrown back on your desk and your fingers running through his curls.
This kept up for the three weeks leading up to the week of Valentine’s. Every day you’d find a card from the same mysterious sender, sometimes in your room, sometimes in embarrassingly public places. Like taped to the chalkboard in Xavier’s classroom or even hanging from the chandelier in the foyer of the mansion. Frankly, it was ridiculous and getting out of hand. But it was made even worse when Professor Xavier agreed to let the school have a Valentine’s Dance. “As long as homework is completed and turned in by Friday afternoon.” Jubilee and Jean were put in charge of the affair -a morning Valentine’s party for the younger students and a evening dance for the older ones- because they were the only ones excited for it. Well, those two and Kurt, who was game for anything he considered 'American’. You weren’t sure about it being typically an American holiday, but you weren’t one to crush Kurt’s spirit, especially since he’d never celebrated the holiday before.
Almost immediately the school was transformed; red and pink heart streamers hung from the ceiling and doorways, pictures of Cupid and hearts and flowers and who knew what all drawn by the little kids were plastered on every flat surface available, and there seemed to be an endless rain of glitter. So much so that you had to stand beneath the canopy of Warren’s wings for protection -glitter is a pain to wash out of hair. Finally you’d had enough and voiced your frustrations to your friends. Actually, you just ripped down the handful of streamers hanging over your bed and tossed them in the trash. “What was that for?!” Jubilee got the things back out of the trash and ran off with Kurt in tow to hang them up somewhere else.
“I’m tired of this crap getting in my hair!” You shouted after her. You didn’t want to upset her. Besides, McCoy had told them to cut it out with the glitter; he was tired of brushing it out of his fur. You technically weren’t in the wrong. Jean smirked at you. “When did you become such a cynic?”
“I’m not. I just don’t fall for their marketing lies.”
The party and dance were scheduled for Friday, even though the actual holiday was on a Tuesday this year. It gave everyone something to look forward to after a hard week. Your friends had coerced you into giving it a chance. You really didn’t care anything about the dance, but it was being catered, so at least the food would be worth it. And really, why else would anybody go to a party if the food wasn’t good?
If you were honest with yourself, you’d had fun all day that Friday. Xavier had given you a pass, so you and your best friend Peter chaperoned the kids’ party while they exchanged cards and candy and watched movies all day while eating the snacks you’d picked up in town when buying party supplies. Namely, sugar cookies with too much frosting and tons of chips and soda. “Might as well sugar them up.” Peter had said while tossing every type of sweet in the store into the shopping cart. “Why don’t we just give them bags of plain sugar? Do you really want to chase down thirty hyper eight-year-olds?” He thought about it and grabbed some gallons of milk, “To balance them out.”
You two sat in the back of the library where the last movie was playing, your head laying on Peter’s shoulder as he ran his fingers through your hair. It was putting you to sleep. “Have you figured out who your secret admirer is yet?”
“No, not yet. But the card I got this morning said they’d be at the dance tonight. Hope they bring over-priced chocolate.” You laid your head back down. Unknown to you, Peter smiled to himself.
The dance was set up in the dining room of the school with the tables pushed off to the side to make room for a dance floor. McCoy and Raven were chaperoning this time without Alex or Xavier because Alex was, as he put it, “too old for this shit”. He instead pushed a TV into the hallway outside of the dorms to make sure none of the students -like Scott- tried anything stupid and watched whatever sport was being shown. And Xavier had his hands full upstairs trying to wrangle the eight-year-olds. He’d just shot you and Peter a dark look that promised payback as he had to pull two kids off of his wheelchair so he could chase after another when he came to check on the party.
It didn’t entirely go off without a hitch though. Jubilee had hoped to have a masquerade, but Xavier caught wind that a couple of the students -Scott and Warren- planned on buying clown masks and scaring some of the others that were terrified of clowns, which Charles was, so he put the quietus on that. Also, they seemed to be having a harder time getting anyone in your group of friends to dance than they’d expected. Bless Kurt for actually giving in to Jubilee’s demands, so that she left the others alone. You watched Scott’s shameful flirting attempts with Jean who was not reciprocating at all, but at least she had agreed to be his Valentine. Okay, maybe you were a little salty. As far as you knew, your 'Secret Admirer’ hadn’t shown up, and you were aggravated by the number of girls that clung to Warren so that you couldn’t talk to him. What would the consequences be if you were to say, light something on fire with your mutation? That would liven things up.
“You don’t look like your having fun, Y/N.” You startled at Peter’s voice; you still weren’t used to him sneaking up on you. He smiled mischievously with his hands hidden behind his back.
“I’m fine, you know I’m not much of a dancer. I’d rather watch Scott make a fool of himself.”
“You could do that any day.” You both ignored Scott’s shouts of protest and Jean’s laugh. “Come on. One dance?” What the hell? One wouldn’t hurt anything. Besides it was a slow song now. You held your hand out and were utterly shocked when Peter pulled out a dozen red roses and the biggest box of chocolates you’d ever seen from behind his back and sat them on your seat. “Here, we’ll come back for those later. I wasn’t sure what kind of chocolate you liked so I got a mix, and I’ll eat the ones you don’t want.” You threw a glance back at Jean and Scott who were smiling brightly -guiltily- at you. They knew this whole time. Probably everyone did. Your heart started pounding. You’d always liked Peter, but never knew if he felt the same. That’s why you’d moved on and set your sights on Warren, so you wouldn’t get hurt.
“Peter, you’re my secret admirer?” He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you close, slowly swaying with the music, though you could tell he would only stay still for so long. “Well, yeah. Why would you think I wasn’t?”
“I didn’t think you liked me like that. I thought you saw me as just a friend.” You looked down, but he lifted your chin and made you look at him. “I’ve liked you since we first met.” He took a deep breath. “Y/N, will you be my Valentine?”
“Yes!” You flung your arms around his neck and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, something you’d imagined doing for awhile. He deepened the kiss and even went as far as dipping you down like in every romance movie ever, despite McCoy in the background telling you to keep it at arm’s length.
Maybe Valentine’s Day wasn’t a fake love holiday after all.
