Anubis: Dog of Death #2 was successfully funded on Kickstarter
Anubis: Dog of Death #2 was successfully funded on Kickstarter
We just barely reached the funding goal for Anubis: Dog of Death #2 before the campaign ended yesterday. But we made it!
John Barry Ballaran is working on the art for Issue #2. While he’s working on that, I’m going to post monthly updates for the backers on Kickstarter. Not sure yet if these will be publicly available or not. If they include some content that the backers have paid for, I can…

Last Chance to Pledge to the Anubis: Dog of Death #2 Kickstarter
Last Chance to Pledge to the Anubis: Dog of Death #2 Kickstarter
There’s now only 24 hours left of the Anubis: Dog of Death #2 Kickstarter campaign, and we are still missing $553 to reach our $4,806 goal. Not impossible, but still a challenge.
So I figured I could share some of our reward tiers, see if I can entice anyone: $15 Standard Print & $25 Limited Cover Print – Digital comics are great, but I will always prefer having physical books, art, and comics.

Here’s what the cameos look like when completed.

Behind The Kaiju Cover of Anubis: Dog of Death #2
Behind The Kaiju Cover of Anubis: Dog of Death #2
The cover for the second issue of Anubis: Dog of Death shows Anubis running through a city model, used as a set for a movie. But this image is actually an homage to a set used in the Japanese kaiju film Mothra from 1961.
I liked the idea of making it look like Anubis was this giant dog monster in a city. Fighting through it with what looks like some sort of Lovecraft monster. John even made…

Panel Highlight - The Gods | Anubis: Dog of Death #2
Panel Highlight – The Gods | Anubis: Dog of Death #2
The Kickstarter for Anubis: Dog of Death #2 is in full swing, so I wanted to show off some cool details from what we have of Issue #2 so far. We might as well start off at the very start, with panel one of page one.
When I wrote the issue, I asked John to draw various Egyptian gods of his choosing behind Anubis and Ra’s conversation. In his own words, here’s who he chose:
“1. IHY. Child…

Speech Bubbles, and the differences between how gods and people speak
After I had written the script for Part One of my Anubis: Dog of Death comic book, I and artist John Barry Ballaran had to agree on several things in the pre-production phase of making the comic, before John could start drawing the pages. One of the things we had to decide upon were how we would utilize speech bubbles for our different characters.
Specifically how we would distinguish between…

Super Angry Anubis
Here’s a leftover frame that we did not end up using for the Reaction GIF that John Barry Ballaran made, based on Anubis from Anubis: Dog of Death.
The GIF worked better with Anubis smiling smugly, than with him looking super angry. But I still like this expression for him, so I wanted to let you all see it, even if we did not end up using it for the GIF.

Anubis: Dog of Death - Kickstarter Project Wrap-Up
Anubis: Dog of Death – Kickstarter Project Wrap-Up
There are only a few days left of the first ‘Anubis: Dog of Death’ Kickstarter campaign, so now’s the last chance to get a print of Issue #1.
We have reached well over our funding budget, so the project will very likely be successful. So I figured I might as well do a wrap-up post about the project now, and tell you about some of the things we have achieved.

Chloe Concept Art
These are some early pieces of concept art for Chloe from Anubis: Dog of Death. Chloe is a Hollywood Hopeful, and Anubis’ new owner.
We went through a few different designs for Chloe’s outfit during the pre-planning stage of making the comic.
Here we wanted to try incorporating some Egyptian-style jewelry in her outfit.
This felt a bit too extravagant.
We then tried to instead…

Tor Concept Art
These are some early pieces of concept art for Tor, the Norse god of thunder, as he appears in Anubis: Dog of Death.
Most of you know him as Thor, and some of you probably assumed him to be an original Marvel comic book character.
In Norway we know him as Tor With The Hammer. An old viking god known to ride across the sky in a chariot pulled by his two goats, Tanngnjost and Tanngrisne.
