(TW nongraphic sex discussion, complications of prescription drug use)
After years of severe depression symptoms, I took antidepressants and antianxiety meds and everything was going peachy keen, though it had the typical impacts on libido. I got mad at my psychiatrist for charging me 200 dollars for a missed session, and as a result didn't go back to her, and as a result had to stop taking my meds cold turkey.
Apparently there's this fun thing called "Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction" that can permanently alter your experience with sex-stuff when you do that, and unfortunately my partner has fairly high sexual needs for their own reasons. So, due to my own silly mistake made in anger, I have a potentially permanently different relationship with sex than I've ever had before. Obviously we both know that sex isn't essential in a relationship, but we also both know that he has needs I'm not fulfilling super well at the moment, making him feel bad for having them and me feel more depressed than I was before and less confident in myself. Bad and guiltridden times all around, I suppose.

Story at-a-glance
Ozempic and similar weight loss drugs have been linked to 162 deaths in the U.S., with adverse reactions increasing by 40% in six months as usage expands
These medications are associated with serious side effects, including pancreatitis, bowel obstruction and stomach paralysis, with 80% to 90% of users experiencing at least one adverse event
Studies have found a significant link between semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic) and suicidal ideation, particularly in patients also taking antidepressants or antianxiety medications
Emerging reports indicate severe kidney problems in some patients using these weight loss drugs
Akkermansia, a beneficial gut bacteria, is a natural alternative to stimulate GLP-1 production, offering similar benefits without the risks associated with drugs like Ozempic

During hospitalization, 65.8% of patients got a psychiatric consultation. The remaining 34.2% of patients refused or did not have the consultation.
Among the factors considered to be relevant to diagnose these disorders, the exclusion of other organic or psychiatric causes is the most represented, observed in 91.1% of cases.
An atypical presentation is another key issue (89.3%), which implies that the patient’s symptoms or the clinical course of the presumed condition is unusual, sometimes associated with incongruous instrumental findings. In some cases, it is also possible to observe an exacerbation of the symptoms in the presence of the medical staff or, on the contrary, in the absence of any witnesses.
Another important parameter is patient’s unusual behavior (86.2%), followed by treatment failure and/or high disease recurrence (83.7%).
The demographic profile of the sample shows a prevalence of female. The data support the hypothesis of several case reports and reviews that FD occur mainly in women.3,9,10 However, other studies published in the literature show a clear prevalence in male gender. This illusory disagreement finds an explanation in Freyberger’s words, who asserts that there is a prevalence of men in clinical trials for Munchausen Syndrome, while the women are most common in the classic form of FD with a ratio of 3:1.11

#1161 Does the placebo effect work?
Does the placebo effect work? The placebo effect works for things that are directly affected by the brain, but not for actual illnesses. Nobody understands exactly the mechanism behind the placebo effect, but there are some pretty good theories. The word “placebo” comes from Latin, and its origins give a clue to what it does. In Latin place means “to please” and placebo means “I shall please”. It was first used in the medical sense in 1785 for “a medicine given more to please than to benefit the patient”. So, the idea of the placebo effect has been around for at least 250 years, but I’m sure it has existed for long before that. Anybody with children knows about the placebo effect. You give your crying kids an M&M while telling them it’s medicine and their pain just goes away. But how can something that is not medicine make pain go away? Whenever a new drug comes onto the market, it must first be tested against a placebo. All of the people taking part in the experiment are divided into groups and given either the real drug or a sugar pill. Nobody, not even the doctors, know which patient is getting which pill. The subjects are followed throughout the trials to see how they improve and at the end, the people who took the real drug and the people who took the sugar pill are compared. If the people who took the sugar pill improve just as much as the people who took the real drug, then the drug fails the test. The problem is an awful lot of drugs fail this test. And, it turns out, the majority of drugs that do fail the placebo test are those that work on higher brain function in the brain, such as antidepressants, antianxiety drugs, and even migraine pills. This gives us a clue as to what the placebos are doing. Experiments show that a placebo can lift someone’s mood or cut their pain just as effectively as a real drug. The reason why is part expectation and part our body’s own chemical ability to ease its own suffering. Our body has the necessary ability to feel pain. It is usually a warning that something bad is happening or is about to happen and we should do something about it. However, our bodies also have the ability to switch this pain off. We have all heard stories of soldiers who have been shot several times and still carried another soldier off a battlefield. We have heard stories of mother’s lifting cars, even though it tears muscles and tendons. Our bodies can suppress the pain, although it is only temporary. The pain will return once the other action has been completed. Our brains do this through the production of endorphins, which are natural painkillers. When someone takes a placebo, believing it to be a painkiller, the brain will produce endorphins, which will create pain relief and a feeling of happiness. The same happens with depression and anxiety. If you take a pill and believe it is an antidepressant, your brain will produce endorphins that will lift your mood. The second part of this is expectation. If I give you an M&M it won’t help relieve your pain. If I give you an M&M and tell you it is a painkiller, it might help relieve your pain. If I dress as a doctor, take you into my office, listen to you talk about your pain, then give you M&Ms that have “painkiller” painted where the M&M was, and tell you these are some very strong experimental painkillers, they will relieve your pain. Expectation is a big part of the placebo effect. We know what effect should come from those drugs and we expect that effect to happen. This makes our brain produce endorphins. The fact that placebos only work on ailments that are connected to the part of the brain that deals with expectations, interpreting social cues, anticipating rewards, shows how they are working. You have to know you are getting a placebo for it to work. If I crush up valium in your ice cream without telling you, you will have a totally different reaction than if I crush up M&Ms in your ice cream without telling you. The trick of a placebo is that you have to know about it. A placebo can help with your pain, but it will never shrink a tumor or fix a cataract in the eye. There are limits to what our brains can do. And this is what I learned today. Like this? Try these: - #1044 How do painkillers work? - #332 Do cyanide pills kill as quickly as in the movies? - #515 Why can you test for drugs in urine? - #794 How do weight loss drugs work? - #1109 How do weight loss drugs work? Psychiatric Treatments Available: Your Guide to Mental Health Care
In today’s fast-paced world, mental health issues are increasingly common, affecting individuals across all age groups and walks of life. From stress and anxiety to severe psychiatric disorders, seeking professional help is no longer a stigma but a necessity for a healthier and happier life. If you're exploring psychiatric treatments, understanding the options available can make the journey to mental well-being smoother and more effective.
Understanding Psychiatric Treatment
Psychiatrist in Jaipur refers to medical interventions designed to diagnose, manage, and treat mental health conditions. These treatments are tailored to the individual's needs, ensuring comprehensive care that addresses the mind, body, and emotions. Treatments can range from counseling and therapy to medication and holistic approaches.
Types of Psychiatric Treatments
Medication Management Psychiatrists often prescribe medications to manage symptoms of mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. These medications, such as antidepressants, antianxiety drugs, mood stabilizers, and antipsychotics, work by balancing chemicals in the brain. A psychiatrist monitors and adjusts medications to ensure effectiveness and minimize side effects.
Psychotherapy Also known as talk therapy, psychotherapy involves discussing feelings, thoughts, and behaviors with a trained professional. Popular forms include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Helps manage intense emotions and improve relationships.
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT): Aims to improve communication and resolve interpersonal conflicts.
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) ECT is a safe and effective treatment for severe mental health conditions, such as treatment-resistant depression. It involves administering a controlled electric current to the brain under anesthesia to reset brain activity.
Rehabilitation for Addiction Addiction to substances such as alcohol, drugs, or even behaviors like gambling often co-occurs with psychiatric disorders. Specialized psychiatric care includes detoxification, behavioral therapies, and medication-assisted treatments to help individuals recover.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Younger individuals face unique challenges, from ADHD and autism to anxiety and behavioral disorders. Child psychiatrists use age-appropriate therapies and, when necessary, medications to address these issues.
Holistic and Lifestyle Therapies Many psychiatrists incorporate holistic approaches like mindfulness, meditation, exercise, and dietary changes to complement traditional treatments. These methods help manage stress, improve mood, and promote overall well-being.
Choosing the Right Psychiatric Care
If you're considering Best Psychiatrist in Jaipur, finding the right psychiatrist is crucial. Look for a professional with experience in handling your specific condition. Recommendations from trusted sources, online reviews, and consultations can help identify the best fit.
Additionally, many clinics now offer telepsychiatry services, enabling consultations from the comfort of your home. This option is especially helpful for individuals with mobility issues or those in remote areas.
Benefits of Seeking Psychiatric Treatment
Better Symptom Management: Timely intervention can help manage symptoms effectively, preventing them from worsening.
Improved Quality of Life: Addressing mental health concerns can enhance daily functioning, relationships, and overall happiness.
Personal Growth: Therapy sessions often lead to greater self-awareness and emotional resilience.
Physical Health Benefits: Managing mental health can reduce stress-related physical ailments like hypertension and fatigue.
Breaking the Stigma
Unfortunately, mental health stigma still prevents many individuals from seeking help. However, awareness campaigns and open conversations are changing this perception. Consulting a psychiatrist is no different than visiting a doctor for physical ailments—it’s a step toward better health.
Conclusion
Mental health care is an essential aspect of overall well-being. With various psychiatric treatments available, from medication to psychotherapy and holistic approaches, individuals have access to comprehensive care tailored to their needs. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, seeking professional help is the first step to recovery. Remember, reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
By understanding the treatments available, you can make informed decisions and embark on a journey toward a healthier, more balanced life.

it has taken until now (I'm 42) for all the problems I've had this ENTIRE time to be recognized as physical rather than mental.
I started having chronic migraines when I was 4. Dibilitating "growing pain" (Ehlers danlos) since about 7. Period pain that made me black out since 11 (finally identified as endometriosis at 37). My voice gave out suddenly when I was 13 and I still can only speak for short amounts of time or it hurts (labeled anxiety).
I tell doctors in in this much pain and they do not believe me because I'm not "behaving the pain". This amount of pain is the only normal I've ever known. How do you expect me to act?
I have been prescribed so many antidepressants and antianxiety meds when what I needed was pain management. And honestly, except for the endometriosis (finally given a drug for that 4 years ago), I'm still struggling to get care for all of it.
The only reason I'm getting care now is because I've developed Long Covid and it's made everything worse to the point I'm identifiably non-functional.
Please. I know certain experiences can make doctors cynical, but there are so many people who need help. And you're the only ones who can help us.
@thebibliosphere I had to repost this for both of us because OOF

I hate that I love xanax so much. I look forward to taking it. I took the pill and my brain said yum. Like it was taking a hit of weed. I do not get high from this shit. I do not feel anything from it except tired. And less anxiety...
I wish this hadn't happened to me cause like obv while I hallucinate and can't smoke pot I'll be on Xanax forever but assuming I stop hallucinating one day, I'm sure I'll always suffer from insomnia... but weed should probably be enough most nights... I actually think I'd have a hard time stopping xanax.
I can't I need it bc I can't smoke pot but if I could hit my vape like a mother fucker, I'd pass out every night without it... too bad my hallucination would get way worse right???
Being addicted to something that you feel nothing from minus sedation is a odd thing.... bc you are like umm why the fuck do you like it? And your brain is like YAY MY FAVORITE TIME OF DAY.
I'm familiar with tolerance as it took more weed to make me feel high when I was a pot head but even a bit of weed still made me feel something.
Of course I'm seeking different things fron the drugs. I didn't think weed was a sleep aid. I was seeking an antidepressants/antianxiety...
From xanax all I want is to pass out like a baby. Every night easily and sleep soundly through the night.
I hope I sleep well tonight. I wish I never had to start benzodiazepines. It still grosses me out.
I still worry about what Elise must think of me bc of this and everything else. Especially everything else. But this too. I feel weak needing this. I actually Need it. It saved my life. I'd be dead right now. I know I would. Nonetheless I just wish none of this happened to me.

Frazzled dads are not so bad: Men on antianxiety meds do not see reduced outcomes in IVF
A team of researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital reported this week that men who take antianxiety medication may not experience poorer IVF outcomes than those who tough it out.
"Our findings indicate that despite past concerns over antidepressant medication’s impact on fertility, treatment should not be withheld from men experiencing anxiety or depression," said study co-author, Dr. Zachary Walker.
In vitro fertilization is a famously stressful experience. Frustrated dreams, family expectations, and no small financial expense place considerable pressure on both partners. For years, fertility doctors have warned prospective fathers that antidepressant and antianxiety drugs may reduce the effectiveness of their fertility regimens. However, this new report, published in Human Reproduction, indicates that this may not be so.
From 2018 to 2022, the research team surveyed 222 men undergoing IVF at a single clinic, asking them to self-assess using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale questionnaire. They found that 22.5% of the men had experienced anxiety and 6.5% depression and evaluated this against the outcomes of the fertility treatments. They found that even though the men with anxiety had lower total motile sperm counts, the rate of live births did not differ in any significant way.
Walker had some ideas about why this might be so: "Anxiety medication can hinder fertility, so can stress. Given that IVF is notoriously stressful, our findings underscore the importance of prioritizing patient mental health during fertility treatment."
Read the full study in Human Reproduction.

During the forecast period of 2023-2035, the global scopolamine market is expected to reach an estimated value of ~USD 830 billion by 2035, by expanding at a CAGR of ~5%. The market further generated a revenue of ~USD 462 billion in the year 2022. Major key factors propelling the growth of scopolamine market worldwide are the proliferating investment in the pharmaceutical sector for the development of neurotherapeutics drugs that can contribute to the prevention of nausea and vomiting caused by recovery from anesthesia and surgery along with the surging number of surgeries worldwide.
Market Definition of Scopolamine
Scopolamine, with chemical formula C17H21NO4, is a poisonous alkaloid which is used for its anticholinergic effects. The drug is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness or medications that are used during surgery. Global Scopolamine Market: Growth Drivers
The growth of the global scopolamine market can majorly be attributed to the number of people suffering from mental disorders such as anxiety and depression with the rising use of scopolamine as an antidepressant and antianxiety drug. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders affect 40 million adults in the United States, or 18.1% of the population every year, and are the most common mental illness in the country. On the other hand, the market growth can also be attributed to the increasing number of travelers where around 1 in 3 people are considered highly susceptible to motion sickness along with the growing demand for medication used to manage motion sickness which is also projected to drive the market growth.
The global scopolamine market is also estimated to grow majorly on account of the following:
Rising investment in the healthcare sector
Increasing burden of diseases along with growing demand for antianxiety drugs owing to rising stress
Rising prevalence of the musculoskeletal disorder
Growing number of surgical interventions globally
Global Scopolamine Market: Restraining Factor
There are various severe side effects as well as withdrawal symptoms associated with the usage of scopolamine. Additionally, the prolonged use of transdermal scopolamine can lead to drug-dependent addiction. Hence, this factor is expected to be the major hindrance to the growth of the global scopolamine market during the forecast period.
