Although speaking of the manga: you saying earlier that Mei is the one putting all the work into the relationship is not entirely true because it was Kiana who saved Mei from suicide, the herrscher, the zombie ambush in chapter 1, and Anti-Entropy twice. It was the fact that Kiana did all the heavy lifting that made Mei's feeling of helplessness grow to the point that she would be willing to do anything to save her girlfriend from having to sacrifice herself to save the world in chapter 17. I think this is why I owe so much and relate so heavily to kiamei as I also had a loved one who helped me through dark times and is now gone forever and there is nothing I can do about it and when I played chapter 17 it was still fresh in my memory and it singlehandedly helped me move on from that experience. It may have also helped that I did not get spoiled about this at all and though kiamei would be a lovey dovey relationship and I did enjoy that dynamic obviously and I do love when they held hands in chapter 32. It is a shame that it does not look like they will have much angst any time soon although Kiana being trapped on the moon during the alien invasion in A Post Honkai Odyssey could make for a good reunion.
See though these are individual heroic acts; what I was referring to was more mundane, long-term emotional support. Pre-story I don’t get the feeling Kiana was mature enough to do that consciously. It was important to Mei that Kiana saved her, but she was acting as a hero, not a girlfriend.
A partner needs to be able to sit down with you and understand your worries and burdens, share chores if you live together, and not let you handle everything on your own. If Kiana soothed Mei, I feel it was more by being herself than being aware of Mei’s internal life. She liked being taken care of and acting cute and flirty, but a big point of the story is her growing up, so she acted more like an oblivious child?
That said— I’m talking about the characters, not your relationship. That the characters mean something special to you doesn’t change that. At no point is my intent to talk about what you went through or what the characters should mean to you, it’s just my own view of the dolls I’m playing with.

Hi! Okay so Welt Yang lore—
As a kid his name was Joachim Nokianvirtanen, he took up “Welt Yang” after his hero Welt Joyce (the original 1st Herrscher) and his mother’s maiden name.
He was born in 1947 I believe in Finland. His mom wasn’t around often coz she was busy.
When he was about 8 years old, in November 1955, Otto happened and his dad was killed, then Welt Joyce sacrificed himself and gave him the core since his injuries were too severe.
Thanks to the Core’s powers of reconstruction, Welt Yang and his scientists caretakers/friends managed to fake Welt Joyce being alive, and the North American branch of Schicksal (Otto’s organisation) seceded to form Anti-Entropy.
About two decades later Welt Yang got sick of this burden he carried since childhood and left, but he came back determined to carry on Welt Joyce’s legacy two years later. He became the Sovereign of Anti-Entropy.
They made mechas to fight the Honkai rather than using humans with implanted Artificial Stigmata that would die in their 30s like Schicksal does. Pretty handy that Welt Yang can make those at will with the Core too…
Anti-Entropy also decided to make mecha manga, anime and video games as an additional source of funding. That’s why in Star Rail he claims to be an animator hahaha. His true calling!!
In 2000 he fought against the Second Herrscher Sirin, she eventually killed him and broke his core but he got better, though he was severely weakened for a while.
In 2005 he found out aliens are real, some are poking at Earth to check if it’s ripe for invasion and some are nice— and killed Murata Himeko’s evil dad who had betrayed the nice aliens.
In 2014 he posed as a History teacher at St Freya for some reason? Someone cloned Welt Joyce to take control of Anti-Entropy via basically posing as the Sovereign. Welt years later adopts a baby clone as his son Joey.
Between 2014 and 2016 he did some experiments with a dimension called the Sea of Quanta and found someone very powerful (Kevin Kaslana) lurking around after an accident yote him there, so he stayed behind to block them from Earth. Unfortunately that just trapped him there, so he set up some trials hoping someone else could become the next Herrscher of Reason.
He was rescued in 2017 when Bronya succeeded in the trials, and reconstructed his body to once again get in Kevin’s way, but otherwise let Bronya inherit the core. He returned to Anti-Entropy and took control of the organisation back, yay.
After the main story of Hi3 concludes in 2018ish he retires from hero stuff to focus on animation at Anti-Entropy’s E. T. Studio. Bronya works for him.
8 years later, he vanishes on a trip to South Africa and it turns out the evil aliens are back. He escapes on a train with his son but Void Archives has other plans and they go off together to beat up the evil aliens— and on the alien ship Welt finds out about HSR Himeko, their next target, and he wants to help other worlds too even once Earth is out of danger.
Exact details are unclear but the evil alien fleet is defeated by the two of them, the nice aliens yeet them back to Earth when they’re stranded on the wrecked alien ship, and some time later Void Archives and Welt Yang are picked up by Himeko from Salsotto.
From there it’s HSR!
Sooo I met up with my friend that also plays HSR, and while her mind was filled with adventurine, she pulled e1 welt on my account. And I must say, while my welt isn't cracked or anything, I got his LC, and he will always have a spot in my teams. Down below V
Also, As a non HI3rd player, I don't know his lore (only that he is a herscher and has cool powers), so can anyone explain to me his lore in short?

In case anyone wants to read some of the the original honkai impact fan translations, here’s a compilation of links. The honkai manhua fan translations used to be on mangadex but they got removed when MiHiYo put up the official translations instead. I may be misremembering but based on the original copy of the 1st AE invasion chapter (imagur link) I’m fairly sure some of these used to have more pixels. Some of these don’t have an official translation so I’ve starred the ones that don’t have complete official translations and double starred ones with no official translation.

In my opinion, the best way to figure out if you'd like HI3rd is to read the "Second Key" Honkai manga which you can get to via this link.
Basically, it's about a character going through a sort of "trial" in which they're cast into a dream and relive some core memories of a different character. It won't make much sense at the start, but by the end of chapter 3 or 4 it should be pretty clear what's going on.
What makes this such a good manga is that it basically covers some of the most important story concepts in the entire game at a superficial and introductory level. It's perfect for someone who knows little to nothing about Honkai.
Honkai energy, sickness, & beasts; Herrschers; stigmata; Project Stigma; Divine Keys; MANTIS; Imaginary Tree. All these concepts are incredibly important, and this manga should present them all in a way that is relatively easy to understand while also being a good indication of what HI3rd's story is really like.
It's basically "Honkai in a nutshell".
The problem with playing HI3rd itself is that the game's quality is incredibly inconsistent.
Early story content is janky and poorly written, newer story content is decent but has some issues with pacing and/or writing style, and most of the best content is in the middle. This means you have to put in a lot of effort to get past the crappy starting point, and there's not really any way around that. This kinda applies to gameplay as well, but it's not too bad, I guess.
There's also not that many good resources for lore outside of lore videos and some reddit/tumblr posts. Genshin & HSR have incredibly thorough wikis, but the HI3rd wikis are only good for gameplay stuff (character equipment and gameplay descriptions), not really for lore.
Those things I mentioned earlier, the Herrschers and stigmata and stuff, these things don't get properly explained in the game. You have to read a lot of manga to get the idea, but the manga are also chaotic and poorly organized, with some manga being incredibly well-written (Second Eruption, Second Key, Alien Key) and others being highly questionable at times to the point that they're bordering on non-canonical (AE Invasion, Escape from Nagazora).
For an HSR analogy: imagine if the beginning of HSR wasn't Herta Space Station, but instead the game started in the middle of the Belobog story arc.
You play as the Trailblazer but your character already knows everyone and you're halfway through a story arc with lots of stuff going on. No intro to March 7th or Dan Heng or Welt or Himeko. No opening scene where you arrive at Belobog and learn about the planet and its Stellaron crisis. Nobody tells you what a Stellaron is, nobody told you about Paths or Emanators, and so on. Stuff just happens and people toss around words assuming you know everything that's going on.
And if you want that backstory, you have to go find the manga, but some of the manga were written 6 years ago and feature multiple non-canonical concepts and characters, plus they have different art styles and writing styles, and a significant portion of the manga chapters are out of order and haphazardly mixed together.
That's what starting HI3rd is like.
The game starts without any introduction to the Main Trio of protagonists (Kiana, Mei, Bronya), no intro to Honkai or Honkai Beasts or Herrschers, no intro to Schicksal or Anti-Entropy or St. Freya, etc. Stuff just starts happening and everyone knows each other and throws around funky concepts willy-nilly, and the game acts like you already know what's going on even though you probably don't.
So yeah, if you want to know if HI3rd is worth the effort to get into, I'd say read Second Key. If you like the characters, if the story concepts sound interesting, if the writing is appealing to you, if the aesthetics are nice, etc., then I'd say go for the game. Second Key is basically the introductory chapter to HI3rd that HI3rd never got.
If you do get into HI3rd that way, just make sure to keep in mind that the first 6 chapters are gonna be rough, chapters 7-9 are good but unpolished, and chapter 10 onwards is when you start to see quality writing, dialogue, stage design, and so on. The first open-world stories are also very meh (Sakura Samsara and Schicksal HQ), but the other two (APHO 1 & 2) are solid.
Also, regarding the UI and "reset" and stuff...
when I said earlier that this game has inconsistent quality? That issue is getting worse, not better.
The UI is getting updated but it's a very patchwork-y update, with different menus getting updates at different times. It's an awkward mix of new and old that's kinda jarring at times.
And as I understand it, instead of fixing Part 1 up and bringing it up to par with the rest of the Hoyoverse games, Mihoyo is kinda sweeping it under the rug by allowing players to skip ahead to Part 2 once they reach a certain player level. So I have very little faith that the early-game HI3rd experience is going to get the repairs and polish it needs to be accessible to the average player.
comrades…..friends…..fellow Romans and countrymen……I have an insatiable desire for knowledge. An obsession, if you will. The pile of fat and synapses contained in this vessel’s cranium has deemed that I must learn all the lore of honkai impact 3rd.
I also know that the UI of this game is getting a massive overhaul (or already has?) and that the game is getting some kind of reset.
Honkai impact is….dense. It’s been going on for years. Should I do it, lads? Should I try to play it? Should I do that to myself
#honkai impact 3rd#hi3rd#honkai 3rd#honkai#honkai impact#long post#sorry this got so long#it's just hard to talk about hi3rd because it's not bad enough to say avoid at all costs”#but it's also hard to get into it#so I don't want to say “oh yeah go for it!” because jumping in blindly probably won't end very well >.>#but I also genuinely love the game and its story#it's just tough to love is all

Do you have a list of ggz manga that is relevant to hi3 story? I see you reference them in your posts a lot, and they seem to be able to explain what I don't understand. Preferably in an order they should be read in 😣
There is one that I know is relevant because it's actually included on the CN comic website but not on the global one.
Here's a link to an unofficial translation since there isn't an official one. Also there's a lot of contradictory information because there are differences between GGZ and hi3, like it says Judah's spears are tipped with obsidian which seals Honkai, which isn't true in hi3. So don't think too hard trying to reconcile the contradicting info and just have fun with Kallen swearing.
It also comes with this link to a bilibili video https://www.bilibili.com/video/av2645577
A part that is canon is the last panel of Sakura meeting Kiana! This is confirmed during the Anti-Entropy Invasion comic!

Hi lovely! I want to learn the lord of Honkai but can’t play the game, is there a way to do it? I have seen the cinematics and they blew my mind!!
you can read the manga and watch somebody play through the story on youtube, I'm certain there are playthroughs that don't have commentary.
https://manga.honkaiimpact3.com/book
for the manga I'd really suggest starting at Azure Waters and going down the list in Main Comics then go back to the top and end on Second Eruption. Second Eruption is so good I'm begging you to not start on it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: After the St. Freya High chapters, the next chapters of the story are in Anti-Entropy Invasion, not Gratitude Arc. They are the ones without AE Invasion in the chapter title. Then you backtrack to Gratitude arc, then go through the AE Invasion like normal.
I found somebody starting at Chapter 1 with no commentary. No promises on if they continue or not.

in the AE Invasion manga, Cocolia introduced the Welt clone as the sovereign, which he "proved" by using his powers. but at the end we see that Einstein knew the real sovereign was Welt Yang. so did everyone in the group at the beginning know the truth or just Einstein? i would think at least Tesla knew as well
We don't know for certain in the text but I don't think there's any way he did anything without Einstein and Tesla knowing. They are in charge of Anti-Entropy together, not to mention that they are extremely close. I don't see Welt as the kind of person to crush somebody with gravity to prove a point.

In the manga by the end of second eruption, was Otto was brainwashing Theresa? If so, why? It showed him with Fenghuan Down and it reflected on her eyes
Yes, he was altering her memories of the Second Honkai War. So he made her forget meeting and fighting alongside Anti-Entropy and made her believe that Cecilia called for the nukes to be launched at her and Sirin, rather than Otto launching them to kill Siegfried.
This is why she doesn’t recognize Einstein in the Anti-Entropy Invasion comic.

there's probably nothing for it, but I'll ask just to be sure - are there any written down/mentioned characteristics of herrscher's wings? the only one I remember was in St. Freya High manga when Himeko was discussing with Theresa how the hell Kiana even managed to touch Mei's wings, thus neutralising the herrscher, since they're insanely hot
This is much more theorizing than actually answering with sources. As you said, the only source for what’s up with Herrscher wings is what Himeko says,
“... pure, raging insanely hot, unstoppable runaway honkai energy”
and that she took out the Third Herrscher by taking out her wings.
Practically speaking, when the Herrschers have their glowing bits (wings, eyes, horns, etc.) it's a signal to the audience that the character is harnessing their Herrscher powers to their full extent. Kiana and Bronya are still Herrschers even when they aren’t glowing. But that’s a boring explanation and the first few manga chapters contradict canon sometimes. So let’s look way too far into this!
Theresa does say that it’s because she’s a Kaslana she was able to do that, cause Kaslanas are extremely resistant to honkai energy. We, however, have more knowledge than Theresa does at that moment in time we know that Kiana is the Herrscher of the Void.
With that in mind, if you look at how weak Mei’s first awakening as a herrscher was maybe Kiana just being there she unknowingly took some of the Honkai energy intended for Mei. Maybe when she touched Mei’s wings she just drained her honkai energy? She does have the Herrscher working against her in her own mind and when the honkai bomb went off over ARC City she absorbed nearly all the honkai energy.
Are the wings where the honkai is stored? Probably not cause we see other Herrschers do plenty of funky stuff without wings or glowing bits (see, every Herrscher of Reason) and we’re told that their power comes from the Herrscher’s core’s connection to imaginary space.
Something to note is that the wings can be interacted with as Kiana does rip the wings from Mei. However in Lament of the Fallen Mei’s hair goes through her horns as if they aren’t there. Her horns are also see through like Herrscher wings.
The 4th Generation Godsbane battlesuits also have some herrscher-like elements, for example Knight Moonbeam wings can be grabbed as Kiana does just that in the Anti-Entropy Invasion manga. Also Vermilion Knight spews fire out the back like wings in Final Lesson. Fu Hua’s new evil getup looks to be overflowing with honkai energy as well.
The Will of the Honkai/ God really does go for the Aesthetic and gives the Herrschers really pretty dresses and such so why not give them wings for the cool factor? If you’re bringing about the apocalypse you may as well be serving looks at the same time. Even the zombies don’t look all that bad.
Uuuhhhhhh. There is no “In conclusion”, I’m shouting theories/ideas out there and seeing what y’all think of them.
