Annandale Distillery, an independent operation located in the Scottish Lowlands, is offering Airbnb vacationers a one-of-a-kind opportunity. Four fortunate couples will go behind the scenes and shadow an expert distillery team, become a distiller for the day, spend two nights at cottages next to the site, and leave with a bottle of single malt Scotch.
Guests are invited to participate in the entire process, from “meeting the malt delivery, to milling and mashing the barley, fermentation, firing up the stills, and filling the casks.” The listing describes the accommodations as a two-bedroom, two-bath, “spacious stable conversion” on the distillery’s grounds.

Recognized as one of the earliest legal whisky distilleries in Scotland, Annandale was established in 1836 by George Donald. The operation was purchased by Johnnie Walker in 1893 but was shut down in 1918, only to be re-born in 2014 after professor David Tomson and Teresa Church purchased the distillery in 2007.

In the Carruthers Arms, the fleur d-lis takes prominence and there is a suggestion within heraldic circles that the fleur d-lis has religious connotations that depicted Miriam (Virgin Mary) as a symbolism of female virtue, purity and spirituality or,  alternatively the three petals depicting the Holy Trinity. There of course is the matter of the Carruthers family crests, where all are depicting angels or seraphims, suggesting some link or link with a higher religous authority and mirrors the use of the Archangel Michael as the crest of Dumfries itself .   There is of course firm historical evidence that the Knights Templars and Knights Hospitillars were active in Scotland  with a relationship to Carruthers ( Crowdieknowe ) Ancient Chapel , near Dumfries [http://www.skt.org.uk/Templar%20Lands/templar_lands_5.html]. It is stated that 'the conditions on which the Templars held their lands were regarded as a model of the most favourable kind of tenure. The estates thus possessed were scattered over nigh every part of Scotland, from Drumfriesshire and Wigtown north to Forres, Nairn, Inverness and Dingwall.[http://www.electricscotland.com/history/templars_scotland.htm]. The Templers, it seems were eventually absorbed into other military orders such as the Knights Hospitaller who took over their lands and priorys/preceptories This would correspond with James Alexander Carruthers assumptions in his book ‘Carruthers Antholgy Geneology’ that we as a family are linked with the Knights Templars/Hospitillars and their preceptories in Dumfriesshire and Lanarkshire, where we had the role as guardians of their religious sites. This is further suppoprted  Robert the Bruce, confirming us as his ‘Stewards ' and Guardians of the Old Kirk Ford at Hoddam’ and Keepers of the Trailtrow Preceptory. Knight Templar and Knight Hospitaller stained glass window Saint Andrew's Church, Temple Grafton, Stratford district, Warwickshire, England. There is further reference to Templer activity in Dumfriesshire listed in the history site: http://www.electricscotland.com/history/dumfries/history21.htm, which mentions the 'temple land of Carruthers'. In addition to the monastic brotherhoods already noticed, two orders of religious knights acquired a settlement in Dumfriesshire – the Templars or Red Friars, and the Knights of St. John. The former, instituted by Baldwin II., King of Jerusalem, took their name from a residence he gave to them near the Temple of that city; the founders of the latter were certain devout Neapolitan merchants, who, trading to the Holy Land, obtained leave to build a church and monastery in Jerusalem, for the reception of pilgrims, to which buildings were added, in 1104, a larger church, with an hospital for the sick, dedicated to St. John: hence the name of the order, and the designation of Knights Hospitallers, by which they are also well known. When the Templars were formed into an order, the AbbĂ© de Verlot, in his History of the Knights of St. John, states that “St. Bernard ordered them, instead of prayers and offices, to say, every day, a certain number of paternosters, which would make one imagine that those warriors, at that time, knew not how to read.” One of the statutes required that the knights should not eat flesh above three times a week. The holy abbot, with regard to their military service, declared that each Templar might have an esquire, or serving brother-at-arms, and three saddle horses; but he forbade all gilding and superfluous ornaments of their equipage. He ordered that their habits should be white; and, as a mark of their profession, Pope Eugene III. added afterwards a red cross placed over the heart.” (Vol. i., pp. 56-7.) De Verlot records that the idea of making the monastic inmates of St. John’s Hospital into a military order, was first mooted by Raimond Dupuy, and characterizes it as “the most noble, and withal extraordinary design, that ever entered into the mind of a monk, tied down by his profession to the service of the poor and sick,” They were divided into three classes – 1. Gentlemen used to arms. 2. Priests and chaplains. 3. Men neither of noble families, nor ecclesiastics, who were termed frĂšres servans (“serving brethren.”). The habit consisted of a black robe, with a pointed mantale of the same colour (called a manteau Ă  bec), upon which was sewn a pointed cowl, and the left side of which displayed an eight-pointed cross of white linen. (Vol. i., pp. 43-4-5.)] Portions of the property that belonged to the Templars in the County bore their name long after they fell into other hands at or before the date of Reformation. Thus we read in old records of the temple-lands of Ingleston in Glencairn; the temple-land in Durisdeer; the five-pound temple-land of Carnsalloch; the temple-land lying beside the Glen of Lag; the temple-lands of Dalgarno; the temple-lands, two in number, near Lochmaben; the temple-lands, also two, beside Lincluden College; the temple-land of Torthorwald; the temple-land of Carruthers, in the old parish so named; the temple-land of Muirfad, near Moffat; and there is a village, in the vicinity of Lochmaben, called Templand, built on ground that was once owned by this opulent fraternity. In the particular register of sasines kept at Dumfries, sasine was registered on the 16th of April, 1636, in favour of Adam Johnstone, brother of Archibald Johnstone of Elshieshields, in the temple-land of Reidhall; and the forty-shilling land called Templands, both in the Stewartry of Annandale. The same register contains an entry of sasine, dated 21st May, 1636, in favour of John Johnstone of Vicarland, and Adam, his son, of the temple-land termed the Chapel of Kirkbride, in Kirkpatrick; and an instrument is recorded whereby the five-pound Carnsalloch temple-land, already mentioned, which belonged to William Maxwell of Carnsalloch, was conveyed to Adam Shortrig, eldest son of John Shortrig, the precept being dated at “The End of the Bridge,” [Or Bridge-end, the name borne by Maxwellton before it was erected into a burgh of barony.] 21st of December, 1619. At Becktoun, Dryfesdale, may still be seen the vestiges of a small religious house that belonged to the order, together with the Chapel-lands, by which it was endowed. [Inquisit Speciales, p. 291.] The Hospitallers had not so much landed property in the Shire as their fellow knights, but they seem to have possessed a large number of foundations. One of their principal houses was a preceptory, at Kirkstyle, about ten miles from Dumfries, in the parish of Ruthwell, the ancient burial-ground of which exhibited, up till a recent period, several memorials of their presence, in the shape of sculptured stones, each containing an ornamented cross, having a sword on the right, a figure resembling the coulter and sock of a plough on the left; but no names of the knights “long gone to dust, and whose swords are rust,” over whom the stones were originally laid. [“These memorials of the dead,” says Dr. Henry Duncan, in his Account of the Parish of Ruthwell, written in 1834, “were found by the present incumbent [himself] lying in the parish burying-ground, whence he removed them; and they now form part of the wall of a summer house attached to the front wall which separates the garden from the churchyard.” In the same garden is placed the celebrated Runie Cross, for the preservation of which memorable monument of Anglo-Saxon times we are also indebted to Dr. Duncan.] One of their establishments stood rather more than a mile southeast of Dumfries, on an estate which bore, in consequence, the name of Spitalfield, till it was bought by the late Mr. John Brown, merchant, Liverpool, who called it Brownhill. On the opposite side of the Kelton Road lies Ladyfield, with its ancient orchard and well, which may have been a pendicle of the Hospital; and we are inclined to think that “Our Lady’s Chapel,” at which King James IV. paid his devotions when visiting Dumfries, was situated on Ladyfield. Above the town of Annan, on the west bank of the river, there was another hospital belonging to the knights of St. John; from which two adjacent hamlets, Howspital and Spitalridding, acquired their designation; and they had a second one in Annandale, at Trailtrow, the cure of which was granted by James IV. to Edward Maxwell, with the land revenues of the same, vacant by the decease of Sir Robert M’Gilhance, the last master of the Hospital. [Privy Seal Register, vol. iv., p. 211.] Their largest hospital in the County, however, grew up under the shadow of Sanquhar Castle, on the northern bank of the Nith. Many ages after all traces of it disappeared, the plough turned up numerous relics of its inmates, the mouldering memorials of a brotherhood who were men of note in their day, though they are now all but forgotten throughout the district – a fate which they share in common with their more distinguished fraters, the military monks of the Temple. [The masters of both orders in Dumfriesshire having submitted to Edward I. in 1296, were confirmed in their possessions by precepts addressed to the Sheriff by the King. – RYMER, pp. 724 – 5.] Both orders fell into decay long before the Papal establishment, of which they formed a singular feature, ceased to flourish; and when abolished at the Reformation, they remaining property was secularized: Ross of Rosile obtaining a considerable share of it; Murray of Cockpool getting what belonged to the Hospitallers in the parish of Ruthwell; Lord Herries their house and lands at Trailtrow [Inquisit, Speciales, p. 291; and Caledonia, vol. iii., p. 154.]; while, as already mentioned, the Spitalfield of Dumfries was acquired before 1666 by the M’Brairs of Almagill.

Your Name, Age (17+), & Timezone: Jem, 25, MST
Natasha Maurice Green turned twenty-two years old on August 13th. She’s a senior at Rosewood. Her face claim is Jenna McDougall.
Bio (10+ sentences, include brief history, personality, potential plots):
In 2018, you’d think that coming out would be easier then it actually is. After all, there have been several progressive movements in the LGBTQ community. The forerunner being same sex marriage is FINALLY legal in all 50 states. But despite important milestones, not everyone is as open and accepting, and Natasha Green has experienced the worst closed minds have to offer.
Nash grew up in a very strict Christian house hold. Her father, had separated from her mother when she was just three and was granted custody of her simply because of money. To the courts, it looked as if an older man with an established career was a better fit parent then a young woman who was a high school drop out. Unfortunately it was the wrong choice. Nash and her father never truly got along, mainly because he would degrade her mother every chance he could get, but also because of the pressure he put on Natasha at a young age. She could take the badgering for all A’s, and the pushing for scholarships, the one thing she wouldn’t was about the types of dates she had to bring home.
From the time she was a little girl, Nash knew she wasn’t like the other girls. She was the girl who didn’t mind having to play with the Ken doll, or play the dad when they played house. And just as she entered high school she began to realize why. It wasn’t the football team that got her attention, it was the cheerleaders. One in particular. Chelsie Baure. And luckily for Natasha, Chelsie just happened to feel the same way. There was just one problem. They lived within the Bible belt, went to a private Christian school, and came Bible thumping families.
The two kept their relationship under wraps for years, even through their first three years of college, playing off their closeness as simply “Best Friends”. But in their last year of college, the unthinkable happened. The secret they were hiding for years came tumbling out of the closet when Chelsie’s roommate walked in on the two of them. In a normal situation, someone might have been able to recover from being outed. Unfortunately for the couple, their circumstances were a bit different. The two, coming from private Christian schools, got significant scholarships to a private college. One that shared their alma mater’s, and their parents views on homosexuality.
Both Natasha and Chelsie were immediately called to the Deans office, and that’s when everything went down hill. Though their relationship was never, whatsoever, forced, but in an order to escape harsh punishment Chelsie lied and told the faculty the relationship was coursed. This lie may have saved her and her future, but at what cost? Not only was Nash expelled for breaking the “honor” code, seeing as she knowingly and what the Dean called “maliciously” broke her contract with her scholarship they revoked nearly half of her credits. Everything that the scholarship had covered.
As if being thrown out of school and her hard earned credits ripped from her wasn’t enough word got out that she had “forced” Chelsie into sex and keeping it quite. That fanned a flame of rage in a group of other students that Natasha never saw coming. While she was leaving school grounds, something she had less then forty eight hours to do, a the enraged group of students jumped her. Beating her to a bloody pulp and leaving her like she was nothing more then a mosquito they had simply swatted.
It took two for a year for Nash to recover fully. Not only did she revive internal bleeding and several fractures in various parts of her skeleton, but the PTSD she suffered from the attack. The girl even fell into a rather deep depression. After all, Natasha didn’t just loose the degree she was almost finished with, she lost her girlfriend, and best friend, of nearly eight years had commuted the ultimate betrayal. Now, a little more worse for wear, Nash is finally ready to pick up the pieces of her life where she’d dropped them. Only problem is, the only decent school who will accept her now with an expulsion on her record is close to a thousand miles away from home. Forcing her to leave her mother, the only support system she has left, and thrusting her out into the real world more vulnerable then ever.
Activity (1-10): 6, my scheduled is kinda crazy and married life takes up a lot of my time but ill try to be active on mobile at least every day
Have you read the rules?: Removed
Would you like to be paired with a buddy to have character connections with (For new applicants)? Sure
In the event that you leave, can we keep your biography for future use? No Any comments/questions?:
Sample( 2+ paragraphs):
“Yeah mom”, the blonde reiterated for what felt like the hundredth time. “Yes, yes. The moving van is here now. Yes everything is fine, no no nothing was broke. No not even Gamma’s glasswear.” It took everything in Nash to not roll her eyes, but it was just the older woman’s way of showing her support.
With a small smile, she let her mother continue. It was just the woman’s way of loving her from nearly a thousand miles away. If Nash though the move was (emotionally) hard on her, she only needed to speak to her mother to realize she wasn’t the only one hurting. She was her mom’s baby. Well not literally, Annandale was just 16 months old. But Nash was her oldest, and her only child for over twenty years.
“Mom”, she finally interjected. When the older woman paused, Natasha could tell her mom was on the verge of tears. And then the miles began to set in for the young blonde. Mom wasn’t there anymore. She was just a phone call away but she wasn’t there. Forcing a smile, she let a breath out and cleared her throat to hide the quiver in her voice. “I’m starving so I’m going to let you go ok? Call you tomorrow?”
Luckily, both women made their goodbye to one another short, something inconsistent with their normal behavior. Clutching her phone tightly, Nash tapped it against her lips. This move was for the best, but that still didn’t make it any less hard.

Hyde Park, N.Y.: A Gilded Age Getaway With a Friendly Vibe
Ann Weiser and Neil Krupnick moved to Hyde Park, N.Y., three and a half years ago, driven from their home on the North Fork of Long Island by boredom and high taxes. A friend introduced them to the historic town of Hyde Park in Dutchess County, about 90 miles north of Manhattan.
“You can’t run out of things to do in the Hudson Valley,” said Ms. Weiser, 62, a retired television executive.
The married couple found a 1960s modernist house across the street from their friend; it had three or four bedrooms (depending on where you tossed extra pillows) and unobstructed Hudson River views. They won a bidding war with an offer of $365,000. A stream coursed across the property of slightly less than an acre. When they sit on their deck and hear trains chugging along the river, they find the sound beautiful. They wave to the people.
With ennui now just a memory, Mr. Krupnick is a member of the town board. Ms. Weiser volunteers on the planning board and helped to found a nonprofit group called Friends of Hyde Park, which raises consciousness of the community with the sale of souvenirs at the summer farmer’s market and other activities.
“Most people are familiar with Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie,” Ms. Weiser said, referring to the town 11 miles north and the city six miles south. “They are not aware that Hyde Park is a lovely and charming town.”
Best known as the home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Eleanor Roosevelt had her own house, called Val-Kill, nearby, but at a safe distance from her mother-in-law), Hyde Park was the seat of multiple titans. Up the road from the Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site is the Beaux-Arts Frederick Vanderbilt mansion that McKim, Mead & White completed in 1899, with soaring columns and water views that allow you to see through the eyes of the Hudson River School. Farther north is the 65-room heap that the same firm built for Ogden Mills in the hamlet of Staatsburg. All of these properties and their lush grounds welcome the public.
So does the Culinary Institute of America and its five restaurants, on a 170-acre campus that was originally a Jesuit seminary. A 2019 survey by Dutchess Tourism information center found that the institute was the destination of more than a quarter of the visitors to the county.
What Hyde Park lacks is a vibrant town center. “Hyde Park more or less developed as a getaway for wealthy Gilded Age families,” said Shannon Butler, the town historian. “They liked the countryside and river access and enjoying nature. They had locals from the town come in and work on their farms, and had everything they needed. The town never really grew up.”
That changed in the 1940s after FDR’s death, when the Roosevelt estate, known as Springwood, became a tourist attraction, and a roadside Howard Johnson and movie theaters fed and entertained visitors. As IBM brought jobs to Poughkeepsie and Fishkill, modest houses rose in subdivisions carved out of farmland. New businesses sprang up in strip malls. In a 1977 PBS documentary about Hyde Park’s development, residents complain about the number of gas stations crammed into a half mile (seven at the time), and a representative of a proposed McDonald’s vows that the local franchise will dispense with its signature roof beams to better blend in with the historic architecture.
Today Hyde Park’s leaders are working to bring greater density and mixed uses to a rezoned stretch of Route 9. As presented in an initiative begun in 2012, a revitalized downtown would look more like the concentrated Victorian hearts of nearby Rhinebeck or Millbrook, with their shops, restaurants and galleries.
But first Hyde Park needs wastewater management. The town has $5.25 million in committed funding and is appealing to local business owners to borrow $13 million more to fulfill its longtime goal of a sewer. “Once we are able to establish the sewer district and the commercial center can be fully built, we expect a positive impact on the taxes, because we’ll have a greater commercial tax base,” said Aileen Rohr, the town supervisor. (National historic sites and educational institutions do not contribute tax dollars.)
Hyde Park is making clearer progress in attracting and accommodating visitors. Ground was recently broken for the Inn at Bellefield, the first manifestation of a 13-year-old plan to develop a 340-acre property across from the Culinary Institute. The school itself is in a partnership to build a luxury hotel that will offer cooking classes. And a former grocery store is being converted into the first sake brewery on the East Coast.
Residents stress that Hyde Park is more than an itinerary stop, but a place with timeless virtues. “It has a very small-town, friendly vibe,” Ms. Rohr said. “I grew up swimming in the river and sailing and boating and playing tennis at the local park. All those options still remain. In 45 minutes you can get to the Catskills, be in Connecticut or the Shawangunks or Massachusetts, yet we still have our own identity.”
What You’ll Find
The town of Hyde Park has about 21,000 residents in 37 square miles, making it less than 1 percent as dense as Manhattan. It contains a hamlet of the same name, as well as others called East Park, Staatsburg and Haviland.
From Revolutionary War-era architecture to midcentury split-levels, the town displays a leisurely timeline of styles. Sue Serino, who runs a real estate company in Hyde Park and is also a Republican member of the New York State Senate, embodies the breadth. She lives in a late-19th-century caretaker’s cottage on the former estate of Archibald Rogers, which was converted beginning in 1947 into the 650-home development known as Crumwold Acres. Her business office is in a charming red house with a double-decker porch on Route 9 that she believes dates to the 1800s. Her political headquarters is in the Bergh-Stoutenburgh House down the road, which was built in the 1770s and is one of three Dutch stone houses still standing in Hyde Park.
“You can tell I like history?” Ms. Serino asked.
Hyde Park has several other Dutch colonial buildings that were instigated by the style’s principal enthusiast, Franklin Roosevelt. “FDR was fascinated with his Dutch heritage,” Ms. Butler, the town historian, said. “He went over the top building everything in fieldstone.”
The Hyde Park post office, Mrs. Roosevelt’s Val-Kill, his retreat called Top Cottage, the expansion of his family home, the presidential library, the public library, the schools constructed with Works Progress Administration financing — “He loved architecture, but just one kind,” Ms. Butler said.
After Roosevelt’s death, the town created monuments to Art Deco (the magnificent Eveready Diner, which opened in 1995) and the jitterbug era (a circa-1955 drive-in movie theater and Roller Magic, a roller-skating rink). Its antiques stores are retro soup pots, with jumbles of temporal fragments floating in a broth of nostalgia.
No less transporting is its natural beauty. Hyde Park has more than 30 miles of hiking and biking trails. The townwide Hackett Hill Park is on 45 acres of open and forested land, with a summer adventure camp. Mills Norrie State Park, in Staatsburg, maintains 1,000 acres, with a marina and an environmental center. The Hudson is a perpetual source of delight. The private Rogers Point Boating Association has hugged its shore since 1953.
What You’ll Pay
Hyde Park is the “best-kept little secret,” Ms. Serino said, “because you can find a house in the 220s-to-250s range, and you’re getting a nice little Cape Cod with two to three bedrooms in a walkable community.”
According to data furnished by William Raveis Real Estate, seven single-family houses — the dominant offering, although Hyde Park has townhouses as well — were sold in December 2019, at a median price of $285,000, an increase of 15.9 percent over December 2018. All but two of those properties sold below their list price. The average time on the market was 108 days.
Students from the Culinary Institute, Marist and Vassar colleges in Poughkeepsie, and Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, often contribute to a population of renters that, according to the online listing service RentcafĂ©, constitutes more than a third of Hyde Park’s households. As of last month, the average rent was $1,081 a month, and the average apartment size was 762 square feet.
Atmospheric local wedding venues and a dearth of hotels make Hyde Park fertile ground for short-term rentals. In 2015, John Owens, 47, an executive at the insurance company AIG, paid $150,000 for a French Renaissance Revival house with a slate roof at the edge of the 211-acre Vanderbilt estate. It had been built in 1876 for the grandson of John Jacob Astor but was in sorry shape. Having put $700,000 into renovations, Mr. Owens, who is based in Manhattan, rents the three-bedroom house on Airbnb for $450 a night, and uses it as a weekend retreat.
He views the shabbiness of some of Hyde Park’s houses as an opportunity. Not everyone has to invest as heavily as he did in repairs. You can buy a “beautiful cottage” for $150,000, he said, that just needs “a little bit of TLC.”
As of Jan. 14, 76 single-family houses in Hyde Park were posted by the Hudson Gateway Multiple Listing Service. The least expensive non-manufactured home in reasonable condition (described as “a rustic charmer”) was a 1930 one-bedroom cottage on Route 9, listed for $119,500, with annual taxes of $1,500. The most expensive was a 2006 four-bedroom house on River Road, with water views, on 1.89 acres, listed for $1.299 million, with taxes of $22,000.
The Vibe
Like the New England of “Little Women,” Hyde Park presents a stark contrast between the homes of the super-wealthy (now museums) and the modest dwellings that are their neighbors. The residents, as advertised, are exceptionally kind and helpful wherever you find them.
The Schools
The Hyde Park Central School District enrolls 3,476 students in four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The ethnic breakdown is 64.7 percent white, 16.7 percent Hispanic or Latino, 11.7 percent black or African-American, 4.8 percent multiracial and 1.9 percent Asian.
On 2019 state tests, 34 percent of district students from third through eighth grade met standards in English, versus 45 percent statewide; 30 percent met standards in math, versus 47 percent statewide.
The average SAT scores of the class of 2019 at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School were 549 in reading and writing and 552 in math, versus 531 and 533 statewide.
The Commute
Metro-North trains on the Hudson line run from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central Terminal three or four times every hour between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Travel time is 95 to 108 minutes, and a monthly ticket is $521. Amtrak also runs trains to Pennsylvania Station from both Poughkeepsie and Rhinecliff. Driving time, via the Taconic State Parkway or the New York State Thruway, is about an hour and 45 minutes.
The History
In the late 18th century, John Bard, a doctor who was a settler in an area known as Stoutenburgh and the great-grandfather of the founder of Bard College, named his estate Hyde Park after Edward Hyde, an English-born aristocrat who was the governor of New York and New Jersey. A local tavern that purloined the name (and applied it to a post office run on the premises) was ultimately responsible for rebranding the entire settlement. Stoutenburgh officially become Hyde Park in 1812, and the town was incorporated in 1821. Many lively tales about the community can be found on Ms. Butler’s blog, Stories from Historic Hyde Park.

For Immigration Physicals Annandale Is Worth Visiting
By Ryan West
Worldwide, each government has duties and responsibilities to its citizens. Among them is ensuring that diseases are eliminated among the people. Therefore, the health sector is very important and is regulated very closely. Immigration physicals was introduced as a result of regulations in the health sector. Medical examination is an important step in the process of migrating from one country to another. When in need of Immigration physicals Annandale should be visited. The reason for the medical examination is ensuring individuals are not inadmissible to the United States on grounds of public health. Any individual applying for United States citizenship, permanent residency, or Green Card in the US is supposed to go through this medical exam before the approval of their application. Nevertheless, it should be known that the passing of this medical test does not qualify individuals for approval of the applications automatically. One can still succeed in the test but not be allowed to enter the US for other reasons. There are two special types of doctors that perform immigration physicals. They are civil surgeons and panel physicians. Civil surgeons are a designation of the USCIS and only work with people who are applying while already living in the US. On the other hand, if one is applying from outside the US or abroad they will have to deal with panel physicians. Panel physicians work under the authority of the US Department of State. In light of this, one must make sure that they see the right type of doctor depending on their situation and where they are applying from. These medical exams are not similar to routine physicals people receive from their doctors. Also, doctors do not pass or fail the people they test based on their health status. An individual should however expect the doctor to take a look at their immunization and medical histories. This therefore implies that a client should be ready to give answers to the specific and general questions that are going to be asked concerning their health when they go for the test. After they receive vaccination records of individuals, doctors inform them in case they have what is needed or if they need additional vaccination. The necessary vaccinations that one should have include Hepatitis B and A, measles, pertussis, varicella, rubella, mumps, polio and influenza among others. Going through tuberculosis screening is essential for anyone above two years. The individual should expect a standard physical from the doctor, which involves examining external genitalia, throat, skin, nose, lymph nodes, eyes, ears, abdomen and extremities. The heart and breathing of the applicant will also be assessed by the physician. This checkup cannot however be avoided if one is to have any hope of their application going through. Gonorrhea urine test and syphilis blood test are additional tests conducted. The final step is submission of results of the medical exam. Individuals can hand-carry the document that contains the results to the required department or the examining doctors may send the document directly to the department. In the case where one is needed to hand-carry the results, they are not allowed to open the envelope since the results will be rejected. Form I-693 is not supposed to be opened since all unsealed envelopes get rejected.

These medical exams are very different from the routine physicals that one receives from their regular doctor. Also, one should not expect that the doctor who administers the test will give them a fail or pass grade basing on their overall health. However, one should expect the doctor to review their medical and immunization history. This means that one will be asked both specific and general questions concerning their health during the checkup. A doctor will give notice to a person after going through their vaccination records if they have everything needed or may still require some more vaccinations.
