Anime Feminist’s Seasonal Backlog: Overlooked Comedic Gems
Anime Feminist has been in operation since Fall 2016, which means seven years–a whopping 28 seasonal rotations. We’ve written about hundreds of shows, and recommended plenty of them, and as the years go on it’s easy for some of the smaller titles to get lost in the shuffle. That’s why we decided to try out a “backlog” series. People are getting into anime for the first time or coming back to it from a long time away all the time, after all!
When putting together this list, we placed the cutoff at the end of 2020, just to really let comparatively older titles shine. Plus, it leaves some options on the table if decide to circle back to this topic in a few years! We also didn’t include any titles that are already on our pinned recommendation lists.
Read it at Anime Feminist!

I've seen Bunnygirl described as Normie-gatari, which checks out. Like, all of the things that happen in Bunnygirl *could* be Oddities, but the execution is lacking that edge that often veers into uncomfortable, and sometimes very uncomfortable, in Monogatari
that's one way of looking at it. it tackles much softer issues than Monogatari does. but really, that might be for the best, because it's a lot easier to make a story about, say, an actress being overworked, than it is about a girl being sexual assaulted, especially when Hitagi's story incorporates other aspects of religion, which anime usually tries to stay away from in any serious capacity
but i don't think the want to stray away from those sharper topics is necessarily a problem. if an author doesn't have the capacity to handle such topics, then choosing for something lighter is absolutely the correct choice. my issue with Bunnygirl Senpai is not solely for the edge it lacks, but the lack of quality in the writing on the whole. the best arc in the anime (the Futaba Rio arc) is as edgeless as anything else, but it's more enjoyable because the writing is better. simple as that

Seasonal First Impressions: The Revolution Wears Red and Pink in MAGICAL DESTROYERS
Magical Destroyers is Pretty Cure meets Rumble Garandoll. What else can you say? ----
Seasonal First Impressions is a column where I detail my thoughts, however brief or long, about a currently-airing anime’s first episode or so. Somehow, this is a genre. I can only think of a few off the top of my head—2021’s Rumble Garandoll, 2017’s Akiba’s Trip, 2015’s The Rolling Girls, arguably Anime-Gataris, also from 2017 counts too—but it’s a real, if small phenomenon, one without a…

How old were Minoa Asagaya and her friends, the members of Club Anime? They are from Anime-Gatari
Hmn!? What an unexpected Ask!! Let's see... Minoa, Arisu, Miko and Yui are in their first year of high school. In Japan this means they'd be 15-16 years old depending on when their birthdays are, but we don't know precisely. Kai and Nakano are second year students, so they'd be 16-17. Lastly there's Erika, who's a third year student. She'd be 17-18. In short, they're all highschool age in their mid to late teens!

Honestly the experience of keeping up with a normal kind of boring show about an anime club, always on the verge of dropping it because it's kind of bland, and then watching it go absolutely fucking wild in the last two episodes so much so that you can't believe you're actually watching the same show or that this is real at all, is absolutely unparalleled. I may never know that exhilaration again.
I feel a chill to my very core. I know the words he speaks are true.

Anime-gataris review
Anime-gataris -
Art - 7
Story - 8.5
Enjoyment - 9
Sound - 8
Characters - 8
Overall - 8.5
This show is fresh, funny, and sweet. The MC reminds me of my best friend, when he first got into anime. The last two episodes are some of the funniest episodes I have *ever* watched. I recommend this show to anyone who likes anime, you will find at least one character to relate to.
