On the tenth day of the Islamic calendar's twelfth month, people in the United Arab Emirates commemorate Eid-al-Adha. Eid al-Adha is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to follow Allah's (God's) command to sacrifice his son. Muslims around the world observe this event.
At Eid al-Adha, many Muslims make a special effort to pray and listen to a sermon at a mosque. They also wear new clothes, visit family members and friends and may symbolically sacrifice an animal in an act known as Qurbani. This represents the animal that Ibrahim sacrificed in the place of his son.

Singapore
I and my wife visited Singapore for the holidays. This was my second time visiting Singapore, however, this time I was going for a longer duration and covering more places. There is a quick 40-mins flight from KL to Changi Airport, Singapore. We had an early morning flight and we reached Singapore at 8 am. We had heard and seen a lot about Jewel at the Singapore airport and that it is worth visiting it. After enquiring about it we came to know that the Jewel opens at about 10 AM. There was a lot of time remaining for that so we thought it is better that we cover it later instead.
We were staying at our friend's place so took a cab from the airport and reached there. Had some breakfast and relaxed a bit till the afternoon. Then we head out to Changi airport (again) to see the Jewel and roam the mall at the airport.
Day 1 -
It is a wonderful and breathtaking experience. There was also a small laser show. The jewel was very well decorated with a lot of greenery around it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The mall was quite full due to Christmas break. There are a lot of things/experiences to do at the airport so consider yourself very lucky if your flight gets delayed and you are stuck at Changi airport. We had some coffee and cakes there and then went to Merlion after that.
We clicked some photos at Merlion and then went to Boat Quay which is connected to it. It is a very lively place with lots of bars, pubs, and restaurants on the riverside. The restaurants are on a bit expensive side but the money is for the ambience and the view. Singapore is well connected by busses and MRT and we did all the traveling with public transport. You can always book a cab with the Grab or Gojek app if needed to reach early and on time somewhere.
Day 2 -
On Day 2 we went to the art and science museum and experienced the future world museum. It was a very unique experience. The ticket was 20$. There is also a mall connected to the art and science museum at Marina Bay Sands which had all the premium outlets and all the brands that you can think of. Apple and Luis Vuitton have island stores and are also very different. Apple store is especially very unique as it is completely glass in the middle of the water.
Tumblr media
Then we saw the laser show, the duration of which was 15 minutes and it was scheduled at 8 and 9 pm. The water laser show is similar to what we had seen in Dubai (near Burj Khalifa) or Kuala Lumpur (near KLCC).
Day 3 -
On Day 3, we visited one of our other friends and went on a night safari. During the morning time, we also strolled around Orchard road. The night safari experience was different as we sat in the Tram to observe animals in their natural habitat. There were deer, antelope, lions, elephants, fishing cats, and many other animals. What was amazing was we all in the tram were very close to them and these trams were coming every 5 mins crossing their "territory" but none of the animals seems annoyed or disturbed by it. I was worried that some animal would attack us in the open tram. But to my surprise, they were sitting calmly, eating their food, or giving us poses to click photos. The tram ride was around 30 mins long and since it was Sunday when we visited there was a lot of rush and queue.
Later, there was a show called creatures of the night in the amphitheater which was amazing where they brought a lot of animals on stage, showed some tricks, and explained their peculiarities.
Day 4 -
On this day, we went to the gardens by the bay. Visited the flower dome and cloud forest. Cloud forest had a unique Avatar theme. The amazing part of both of these places was that they are inside an enclosed area and they have managed to grow and maintain all different kinds of vegetation inside. There is a lot of greenery inside the dome which is soothing to the eyes. 1 hour is enough to be spent in the flower dome and cloud forest respectively excluding the time you spent in the queue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that, we visited the OCBC skywalk for 10$. It's a small walkway connecting all the trees in the gardens by the bay. You can spend around 15-20 mins going from one point to the other. There was a light show in the gardens at 7.45 pm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 5 -
This day was completely dedicated to shopping. We went to Bugis street. It was a paradise for shopping. So my wife was very happy on this day and I did get some free games to play there so I was happy as well. In the evening, we also went to Clark Quay with friends.
Tumblr media
Day 6 -
On this day, we went to Sentosa island. We did the Luge Ride and booked the 7.40 pm slot for the wings of time show. I did not hear about Luge ride before this but it was fun to do it. We then sat on the beach which was very pleasant during the evening time. Made a sand castle (not actually a castle but something similar) and it was a lot of fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 7 -
Me and my wife, we both are big F.R.I.E.N.D.S fans. While preparing our itinerary for Singapore one thing which we had listed was Friends Cafe in Singapore and I am glad we got time to do it. The cafe was a little less than what we had expected. F.R.I.E.N.D.S is always running there and you can drink coffee in a special F.R.I.E.N.D.S mug. They had made the menu customized in accordance with the characters in F.R.I.E.N.D.S and the cafe was a bit on the expensive side. We had some coffee and pasta there and clicked a lot of photos before leaving.
Later in the evening, we went to the observation deck at marina bay sands which gives the complete City view from the 57th floor. I have visited such observation decks in Kuala Lumpur at KL Tower and Burj Khalifa in Dubai which is at a greater height. Marina Bay observation deck is not something out of the world but gives you a decent city view. In fact, it does not even have a complete 360-degree view, just 150-180 degrees. We went to the deck around 6-6.15pm to get both day and night views in the lights.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 8 -
This was our last day in Singapore and had reserved it for Universal Studio. Since we were at the end of December in Singapore, we were expecting a lot of rush here. Universal Studios is a tourist hot spot. We reached there before 11 am and there was already a big queue to enter the amusement park. We already had a "plan" on the rides that we were going to do and how we were going to approach them but you cannot plan everything ;-) We went to the Jurrasic park ride first but it was not yet started. After waiting for 30 mins or so the ride actually started. All the rides that we did were fun but the long queues just spoiled the fun. I was measuring all the time we spent in the queue. We waited in the queue for 1 hour 40 mins for the "Transformers" ride, 1 hour 25 mins for "The Mummy". All the rides had long queues and the more time we spent in there the more we started questioning whether it is worth to be waiting in queue for this long for a 30-second, 1-minute ride? The worst part was that there was no place to sit in any of the rides while you are in the queue. Everyone was tired and till afternoon we could see everyone dragging themselves in the queue, trying to find any place where they can sit or rest for while. So many times, they didn't budge to sit down on the floor as well just to relax a bit from long-standing in the queue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Christmas, universal studios had arranged a special Christmas circus show which was fun and entertaining.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a tourist I loved Singapore but there were a few things that I was not totally comfortable with. One of which is overly dependent on technology and digitalization. Here are some examples -
I stayed at my friend's place where there were multiple entries and exit points to get in and out of the place. The way to open the door was through an app. Using an access card is the most common way that I know of but using an app to do so is something that I had never seen before. Maybe that is for added security. You can easily share the access card with anyone but not the app since it has login credentials. However, this also has its downside. What if I want to go for a morning run and don't want any kind of disturbance there including my phone? How do I get in or out? What if the internet service is poor on my phone? What if the app is down?
In a lot of places, strictly no cash is allowed. Eg- to travel by bus you need an MRT card or use your debit/credit card. Some attractions had the same policy for taking the ticket no hard cash was allowed. This is a little inconvenient for me as a tourist. I don't want to pay hefty currency exchange rates by the banks and I am still a bit old school and carry local currency in cash wherever I'm traveling.
I went to one restaurant where the washroom for ladies and gents was combined. They had a wash basin outside and a simple partition door if you had to go to the washroom. The partition door was semi-automated. You press a button the door opens, you go inside and press another button, and the door locks, do your business, unlock the door and come outside. This was best case scenario but it didn't work with me like that. When I went inside the door was not getting locked at all. I pressed the lock button, and the door tried closing but then opened again which happened 3-4 times then I realized this might be because I was too close to the door and the sensor is sensing that I want to go out. I finally went to the very end of the washroom which was not that big anyway and then the door got locked. Very annoying. A simple door knob would be easier I believe and would have saved me a lot of time. Instead of pressing the button and I would have locked/unlocked the door knob with more sense of security and without all the downsides and edge cases of this automated door.
However, one part of automation that I absolutely loved was the immigration system at the airport. It is so fast and efficient. While returning back there was no need to interact with any human at all. Scan your passport, scan your face, and be done. Didn't even take one complete minute to complete the process of immigration which was amazing.
Overall, it was a very nice and fun trip. It was after a very long time that I could completely disconnect and relax. Since we were in Singapore for 8 days, we could cover everything that we wanted in a relaxed manner. We did not cram two difficult spots in one day. I loved Singapore, it is clean, it is well connected with public transport, it has a lot of things that you can do and it is also tourist friendly. Singapore however, is an expensive city, things are expensive here in general especially when I am coming from Malaysia/India and comparing those prices with Singapore. Apart from that no other complaints, it is a good end to 2022.
Happy New Year and welcome 2023. 🤩🥳🥳🥳🤩

Tu M’appartiens - Chapter 5 Part 1
But still, although Tessa was cursing Mats in the most spiteful of the way, Nicole read through the lines a truth that Tessa herself wasn't aware of.  Her loathing against Mats gave the impression that it seemed more of an animal attraction, that she was in need of him, that she wanted to fuck him.  Yes, Nicole had the perfect eye combined with the perfect brain in terms of body language, and concerning Tessa, it was an unquestionable topic, her body was craving on Mats.
Mats' presence had a bad impact on Tessa, at the view of him, she came to the saddest reality that her relaxing holiday came to an end.  His stupid smile on his stupid face rose her tantrum a little bit more.  When Tessa returned to the apartment, Nicole knew something was wrong based on the look on her friend's face expression.  This one was amused at Tessa's reaction, laughing uncontrollably each time Tessa was repeating over and over again how Mats raised his hand at her.
Nicole's clumsiness to this situation gave Tessa a feeling that her bestie didn't care about her, especially about the hot point that Mats saw her boobs.
July 7, 2018
The big day finally arrived, Tessa turned 29, a new age for her.  Life hasn't always been kind with her, but as the strong woman she was, she always kept her head steady and proved she had enough of maturity to take care of  herself. Tessa developed a fierce maturity from a very young age, probably due to the divorce of her parents when she was still a child.  She forged herself a strong personality and was never afraid to raise her voice to say what had to be said.  Tessa was loved by everyone, first her dad and mom with whom she had a privileged strong bond, her friends, her coworkers and of course the BVB players that absolutely loved her.   Never ever a player from the team disrespected her in any way or never proposed a friends with benefits relation, she was considered as their sister.  But nevertheless this didn't refrain her from having a personal opinion on them, in fact she did find Sancho and Bürki really cute and attractive.
Nicole had been very evasive about the birthday party that she organized for her best friend.  Only two hints were revealed, first Tessa had to be sexy and the second one was to make the most of it.  As a smart girl, Tessa knew that everything seemed fishy, she felt something was on it's way and that it would be somehow of nasty.  But to please Nicole, she decided to keep that feeling for herself.
"You look fine as hell bitch!" Nicole said as both her and Tessa accessed the elevator.
🔴⚫[Tessa's Outfit]⚫🔴
"You look fine as hell bitch!" Tessa shot back sarcastically.
"So where are we going?" Tessa asked curiously as her fingers typed her phone screen answering to the many birthday wishes via her Instagram.
"You'll see!" Nicole said as she pressed the 20th floor button on the elevator control pad.
"Ehm why is the elevator going up?" Tessa frowned her eyes curiously.
"Surprise!"
"I thought we were going out!"
"Why go out when the best is right in our hand!"
"Alright!" Tessa answered but mumbled [I feel I'm having a lot of fun!] Out of earshot to Nicole.
The elevator doors opened at the 20th floor, both stepped out when Nicole grabbed a red scarf out of her bag.
"Wow wow what are you doing!" Tessa made a step back when Nicole was about to roll the red silk scarf around her eyes.
"It's a surprise baby, do you trust me?"
"Ehm.. I guess so!" Tessa said as she felt a little tensed but nodded approving Nicole's move.
"Now relax, and keep walking, don't worry I'll guide your steps, you are not going to hit nothing!"
"Ok…" Tessa said, feeling a bit more at ease.
Girl, trust me, you'll thank me!" Nicole said as they entered a room.
"Nicole, what is going on?"
"There she is…" An unfamiliar female voice exclaimed.
As the red scarf was detached off Tessa's eyes, this one got speechless at the stunning set of red themed decorations.  Masquerade masks, huge red sequins carefully wrapped around a huge table served with a delicious buffet.  Fine wine and champagne, petits-fours, luxurious lobster and a wide variety of seafood, it all looked like one of these socialite private parties.   Tessa examined each detail, but the gorgeous black and red birthday cake was too catchy to be unnoticeable.  Everything was decorated based on Tessa's favorite red color.  In the past Tessa always had amazing birthday parties, but this one was just on another level.
"My gosh, Nicole… it' s so perfect and beautiful, how… how did you do that!"
"I got some help in the name of this amazing girl, Amani!"
Tessa looked at the short woman, who looked absolutely stunning.  As Tessa looked closer at the woman, her mind sent her flashbacks, enough to recall who she was the same woman with whom Mats was at the swimming pool.
"Oh gosh!" Tessa mumbled.  "And who is Amani?" Tessa behaved foolishly.
"Oh, a friend… she's a sweet person!" Nicole said on a reassuring voice tone as she tapped on Tessa's shoulders.
"Happy Birthday sweetie, hope you like the decoration set, Nicole told me you were obsessed with the color red, so we based your little party on that!" Amani exclaimed excitedly.
"It's really beautiful, I can see you put a lot of devotion and of yourself, thank you, it's really perfect!" Tessa said in a sort of approval behavior.
"Don't he shock darling!" Amani said funnily..
"I'm so glad you like it, we know that you're not a big fan of big parties with a hundredth of people, private parties are way funnier and much more intimate, basically anything can happen without having to justify over certain things!" Amani spoke with a suave voice tone while she approached Nicole with a surprising behavior of her having her mouth locked with Nicole exchanging a passionate kiss.  Tessa in shock had her mouth opened, in the unknown of how to react to this situation or of what to do or even what to say.
This was a new side of Nicole she found out and in the most of the explicit way.
"I'm… I…" Tessa baffled continuously with her eyes blinking several times.
"Tessa, you know me, I'm straight but sometimes crossing the line feels so good!"
"Nicole, I think I'll go back to our apartment room, you can stay here and have fun in my name!" Tessa spoke out foolishly.
"Yes, probably…" Tess was out of answers
She walked to the table where the food and drinks were displayed and served herself a glass of champagne that she gulped in one sip and filled up the empty glass immediately.
"No, you stay here, the fun hasn't even started yet, grab your glass, sit comfortably and relax!" Nicole guided Tessa to the living sofa.
"Are you girls dating or something similar to?"
"No, no, but from time to time when Nicole comes to Dubai, we get to have the best of the fun, we love to fuck!" Amani answered as she sat next to Tessa.
"Oh okay, I see, but yesterday, I saw you with Mats, at the swimming pool, you guys looked as a couple!" Tessa felt hungry to know further more about this sort of triangle couple or partner.
"Oh Mats, one of the greatest guy I know and probably the best lover ever, fuck with him for the first time and you'll get addicted to him!" Amani admitted with a sigh filled with lust.
"Gosh, why are every woman addicted to Mats!" Tessa said with an annoyed voice.
"She hates Mats, he's the enemy!" Nicole joked.
"What, you hate on him, oh girl, this is the worst mistake of your life, he's one charming man, treats women with the biggest of the respect and will make you go insane on him, and you're totally his type of girl, sexy, gorgeous and smart, and you're definitely my type as well!" Amani said as her eyes examined Tessa from head to toes.
"Oh my gosh, girls, can we just go out, I want to go dancing to a nightclub, I want to meet some handsome boys, I want to have real fun, get drunk and behave naughty." Tessa begged with puppy eyes.
"Why to go out when we have everything here!" Amani spoke with her eyes focussed at another direction, precisely behind Tessa.  This one turned wanting to know what caught Amani's focus,  for a second she thought she saw Mats Hummels, but it was from being a mirage, Mats was really there, standing beside Tessa.
"Tessa, so nice to see you again!" Mats had one of those charming smile, but Tessa had a different opinion about it.  She had the look of a killer in her eyes, following his steps to the bar where he served himself a glass of red wine.  Tessa's anger took hold of her entirely, she was literally boiling to a point that it became hard to contain herself.  Inside she was yelling, spitting out her venom at Mats.
"Okay, tell me that this is a fucking joke?!" Tessa stood up from the sofa while she stared at Nicole with annoyance.
"Sweetie, calm down please!"
"How the fuck you want me to calm down when this fucker is here, smiling stupidly!" Tessa felt the tension rising so hard.
"Tessa, it's okay, it's your birthday, enjoy this moment please!" Amani tried to gain control of the situation while this one looked at Nicole for support.
"OMG, I can't believe it, you set me up, you set up all of this situation, Mats, the birthday, this place and everything, how could you do this to me!" Tears started to form in Tessa's eyes, not tears of sadness, but tears of rage.
"I didn't set you up darling, it was planned to have your birthday on a luxurious yacht but due to bad weather we had to find an alternative plan, and yes Mats is here because he is my friend and I thought that it was a perfect occasion for you guys to get to know each other!" Nicole shouted loudly enough.
"You know what, I never asked for all of this, I knew I should never have come here, wanna have fun, then just have fun, I'm out of this shit!" A flustered Tessa made her way out to the balcony, not even paying attention to Mats who did feel somehow bad for her.
"She's really mad Nicole, I think you should go and talk to her!" A concerned Mats said as he joined the two other girls.
"No, I have a better idea, she'll have a memorable birthday!" Amani said as she put a tiny white pill in Tessa's glass of champagne.
"Is that what I think it is?" Mats asked with a grin of satisfaction.
"Yes baby you got it, the most erotic natural drug that will make her change her mind radically!"
"Oh gosh, her wide side will take on her because believe me she is a savage!" Nicole laughed.
"Is she?" Mats frowned his eyes with curiosity.
"Oh Mats, you have no idea what you'll deal with!" Nicole winked an eye at him.
"Give me her glass, will bring it to her!" Nicole said.

Singapore guide: Why to visit Singapore, How to get there, What to visit, Where to eat & My personal experience
Hi! Today I am going to tell you about my Singapore experience. You find pics on my tumblr account and even MORE pics on my Instagram account                  ( Daria_Dana_Off ) Now, lets begin this!
Well, it all started an year ago when we went to Dubai. We were really excited to be there and the family friends we went with told us and showed us some pics of Singapore. My parents said they were nice and they basically put in their mind the fact that we NEED to see Singapore just because they liked the pics. Practically, it was a dare. When they told me by February that we were going to Singapore, I thought they were joking, but for them it was all so serious. And this was it, I “woke up” a few days before and realized it was not a joke. I was right in the middle of this madness. Finally I packed up and prepared for a long flight. And here we get at the first point of the article, that is HOW TO GET THERE?
I got there by plane because that seemed the quickest way, but you can get a cruise too. It depends on where do you live. We had a 1 hour long flight and then we had an airstrike that was first meant to be for 2 hours, but it ended up like 4 hours and a half. The other flight was for about 11 hours and it was pretty good. We flied with the Turkish airlines company at the business class because that’s how we proceed when we have flights longer than 4 hours. From the airport to the hotel we hired a taxi that you find after you pick up your suitcases.
We stayed at Village Hotel at Sentosa , it was nice and the people there were great. We wanted to stay at Marina Bay Sands, but it was a problem (there were 3 adults and a kid on the papers, though we were 2 adults and 2 kids and they said that they don’t have that big rooms...) We got there at 2am so we started visiting in the next day. What to visit?
In the first day we just spent some time getting to know the people there and the town, so we went for a walk in the morning after we had our breakfast. We also went to see the most southern point of Asia and took some great photos that you find on my Instagram account. In the afternoon we went to the pool we had at the hotel and that was the first day and nothing more. Second day was much fun because we went to a theme park, more exactly Universal Studious Singapore. We bought our tickets online and I recommend you to get the Express ones so you won’t wait at very long like for hours.  In the evening we took some pics at the merlion statue and we saw a nice show at Wings of time and I had a real snake around my neck too, if you want proof you can see one of mi Instagram posts. In the third day we went to Adventure Cove Waterpark where we had fun in the water. I have some objections here, though. When we first got  there, we had no where to put our things and we had to wait 1 hour so they can find us a place. Second, they closed the attractions 2 time “because of the rain” and it didn’t rain. We also went to the Trick Eye Museum that I liked.  Anyway, third day was the worst for me because of my leg, but we visited Singapore Zoo. We got tickets that included all the activities, that means Singapore Zoo, River Safari and Night Safari, all related to animals. I made a sprain at my leg and it was awful. That’s why in the next day me and my dad styed in the hotel rom with a lot of ice. For then it was planned a bird park, but I don’t know how it was called since I haven’t been there. Well, the next day I was much better so we visited Madame Tussauds Singapore which was really nice and we also got tickets for the “Bollywood experience” which I definitely loved.  In the afternoon we went to Gardens by the Bay where we took so many pics. Most of my Instagram and Tumblr posts are from this day because it was so much to picture and I was in a photo mood. In the evening we wet to the big wheel, Singapore Flyer, and had dinner there. Next day, we didn’t take breakfast at the hotel because we wanted to take breakfast in the cable car. It was a nice experience and I really enjoyed it. After that we went to see The bell of happiness . There were some more nice things there and a nice café where we ate a Rainbow Cake.
Tumblr media
Well, since I haven’t told you so much about Where to eat? here we go... One of my best recommendations is a really nice restaurant next on the beach  named Coastes. Btw, I am only going to tell you about the restaurants that really have something more than the others or I really liked a lot, not all the restaurants we’ve been to. Another restaurant that I didn’t really enjoy more was Shoukouwa Restaurant, which had 2 Michelin stars. I don’t really like Asian food excepting the Japanese and Chinese one so I can’t recommend you any restaurants based on that, but the restaurants I’ve mentioned before had both Asian and “normal” food if I can call it like that. We found some nice natural ice cream shop next to our hotel as well, down at the Sentosa Express ,it was named Stickhouse. Also, I said before about dinner in the big wheel and breakfast in the cable car. Yes it was a nice experience, but it wasn’t an extraordinary food. It was normal food, close to what we had at the hotel or other restaurants. We only went there for the nice experience.
We also went Shopping, but it wasn’t something special I liked about that and we only went to Vivo city so it wasn’t a big deal.
And, yeah, I know this should’ve been the first point of this article, but now I am telling you my own opinion about Singapore and Why to visit it?
I really liked it and I had so much fun spending time with my family and friends there. It was a nice experience and my parents promised to return there. I think you should visit Singapore at any age because you find so much stuff to do no matter how old or young you are, but it is mostly intended for kids. People there are really nice and they always smile at you, they talk to you and make you feel one of them. When I got my leg twisted, the man in the taxi told us everything about their hospitals and the others. When we got at the hotel they immediately drove me and my family at the hospital .They said I have to get a plaster case, but we knew the fact that we couldn’t fly back home with that because it was a long flight so we practically left when we sent the doctor I don't know where. :))) When my parents were called from the hospital, they said we left because they remembered they forgot their card in the room and they paid trough card so they won’  t get there again and they wont put me a plaster case. :))) Overall, it was a nice and lovely experience. Even the one with the hospital, when I couldn’t stop laughing. :)) I love you so much and if you kept reading ‘till here, well done and thank you so much. I totally recommend Singapore for anyone in the world. Where have you been for spring break?

Truth and simulacrum: whose timeline is it? — Maja Bogojević on Possessed
Factuality itself depends for its continued existence upon the existence of the nontotalitarian world (Hannah Arendt)
Possessed, the latest film made by Metahaven—the collective name of artists and designers Vinca Kruk and Daniel van der Velden—in collaboration with documentary filmmaker Rob Schröder, takes their radical aesthetics and progressive politics a step further from their previous film The Sprawl: Propaganda about Propaganda. Their new hybrid artwork revisits the themes of contradictions and paradoxes of multiple realities, geopolitical landscapes, new technologies, power discourse and ensuing alienation in the age of “post-truth.” Similarly to The Sprawl, this film is not easy to categorise, as it explores the notions of consumer discourse, privacy, secrecy, transparency, surveillance, veiling and unveiling, the impact of social media networks and anarchic utopianism of the internet architecture on our individual and collective lives. Through a documented collage, blending a series of drawings, photographs, animated graphics, documentary footage and fictional reconstruction, it refers to various socio-historical narratives and their processes of subordination, power and inequality, commented upon by a single but multi-fold voice-over in a non-linear narrative, which breaks and fragments in order to not only reflect the fragmentation of multi-layered realities we live in, but also to challenge them.
Possessed begins with the images of burning smart phones, war-devastated cities and landscapes, and a water spring flowing over large dark stones, overlapping with the opening narrated question:
“Would you believe?”
These first spoken words trigger a series of questions relating to the search not of the ultimate truth, but of potential truths amidst fakeness and a fixed set of beliefs regardless of the information overload diversity. The answer is, inevitably, “no”.
But the answer to the question “Would you believe in angels?” is, in the age of cynicism and hypocrisy, a surprising “yes”. This abruptly shifts the initial dystopian tone, foreshadowing the underlying final humanistic message of the film, although “there is no hope” (“what for?”) and there is no answer to the question “would you love?”, followed by the sound of a human breathing next to a smartphone. In this prologue, before the opening credits unfold, Possessed suggests in medias res that the centre of the human universe is a smartphone. The next image shows more clearly a girl lying on a bare mattressed bed, in a ruined house devoid of any furniture, with the presence of only one object—a smartphone. She greets the viewers with the words—both vocal and written—“welcome to the modern age”, followed by:
“You may think that this is a house. But there is no house. You may think that this is a girl. But there is no girl. Don’t ask me who I am.”
Examining the complex mutual relationship between the socio-political context and the work of art which documents the historic period it emerged in, the words are intercut with film negatives of houses, a helicopter, the ‘invisible’ humans (“you never noticed me, I wouldn’t be missed”), a footage of Pope Francis, all accompanied with smartphone selfies made with a raised arm in front of the masses of people and monuments.
“When I was young, I was quiet, I didn’t talk with the others, we never talk, we message… All tenderness is radical in a broken world”… “I want to know, what is a devil today? Do you want to hear the truth? Let the suffering speak. I am a breathing fragment of nothingness. Who lives or dies to care for me.”
This verbal segment is intercut with the images of the cross and a drawing of a hand collaged with the real human arm holding a smartphone, as the new disease to be cured of (by exorcism) seems to be—the reality. The raised arm holding a smartphone becomes the pervasive film symbol—it is present in Vatican, over the heads of a faceless mass, in restaurants, in shopping centres, in our empty homes, in the streets, it is everywhere—questioning the beliefs of people. Religion becomes a kind of superstition, because no matter what people ‘know’ in the information age, they still interpret the world and the reality according to their pre-existing fixed set of beliefs.
As Hannah Arendt puts it (in The origins of totalitarianism): “The true goal of totalitarian propaganda is not persuasion, but organization of the polity. ... What convinces masses are not facts, and not even invented facts, but only the consistency of the system of which they are presumably part of”.
Reconstructing artefacts of the recent and not-so-distant past, the film combines images, videos, TV, satellite/drone footage and an original narration into a seemingly incoherent and fragmented filmic reality, with many (meta)textual/discourse references, including videos of: Pope Francis in Rome, ruined Vukovar, Cologne, Aleppo, US soldiers’ flash mob dance in Afghanistan, Dubai fire and sandstorms, hurricane Katrina, migrant lines in Slovenia, queues of people in urban centres, glacier bridge collapse, statue of Liberty etc. Images of war-torn countries show demolished buildings, torn books, deserted homes with personal belongings left behind, posters hanging on the walls, newspapers, religious symbols etc.
The multiplication of simultaneously run narratives and realities and fragmentation of both the individual and the collective are reflected in the film along the axis of mainstream media/state/corporate structures vs. people/media users/consumers, conveying the notion that our agency in the information process is taking less and less responsibility. The more fake news we are served, the more the ‘truth’ becomes important: the mainstream media (and political leaders) have never been more obsessed with it, insisting in their marketing slots that they are all “telling the truth”, echoing Hannah Arendt’s visionary words: “Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow.”
And:
“The danger is not actual despotic control but fragmentation—that is, a people increasingly less capable of forming a common purpose and carrying it out. Fragmentation arises when people come to see themselves more and more atomistically, otherwise put, as less and less bound to their fellow citizens in common projects and allegiances.” (The origins of totalitarianism)
But because of the new media interface, there is a new level of complex fragmentation along the axes privacy/secrecy/transparency/surveillance and control/enslavement, causing a ‘mental implosion’, in Baudrillard’s terms—“simulacrum has been brought to perfection in the 21st century thanks to media interface.” The collaged images of face recognition software, smart phone pervasiveness, the statue of Liberty, war-devastated buildings, torn books, “god land” with a Vodafone tower in the background suggest that mainstream media and dominant consumer discourses tailor their surveillance methods according to the selling/consuming axis or what they perceive as fit for their consumers’ needs. What the overload of information has brought is the illusory display of capitalist consumers’ choices (various kinds of coffee, carrot cakes, brownies, smoothies), but there are no nuances in interpretation of cultural texts, and this precisely helps to sustain the capitalist order. As corporate profit dictates consumers’ privacy, Baudrillard’s “mental involution” (a phone is melting like a brain could be melting) is bound to materialise, leading to the loss of the autonomy of the agency, the collapse of subjectivity. The imaginary enemy is ‘identified’, the crisis is created, and innocents die as a result.
“The truth?”, the narrator asks and answers: “Let the suffering speak”.
Metahaven’s concept of black transparency is reminiscent of Baudrillard’s concept of simulacrum “Simulacrum is never that which conceals the truth, but the truth conceals that it’s not there. Simulacrum is true.” One fact can arise from many models simultaneously and this anticipation and confusion between the fact and its model leaves space for all possible interpretations, even the most contradictory ones.  This is how the politically anomalous - what was regarded as political aberration – can become normalcy.
Hypocrisy, carnage of profile, masked identities, faceless multitudes…
“I grew up in a city of great wealth and beauty” – these words, as it is made clear by subsequent images, allude to the baroque town of Vukovar, destroyed in the Yugoslav war - the first majorly destroyed European town in a battle since World War 2.  A sign reads “18. 11. 1991 - Vukovar, sjecate se?” (“do you remember?”), with a series of images of a ghost town, with decaying, deserted streets, demolished buildings and houses, dead bodies, streams of survivors fleeing… reminiscent of today’s devastated Syria. The authenticity of such footage images evokes the importance of the responsibility of the human race in the face of war crimes and atrocities committed by humans.
Possessed, therefore, wants to remind of and challenge human indifference. The shots show rooms empty of furniture but full of books and papers from the period of the existence of Yugoslavia (which was also the leader of the non-aligned movement of the so-called  third-world countries): Marxism, Kumrovecki zapisi, Danas: Jugoslavija, samoupravljanje, svijet, Class struggle and socialist revolution etc. These and images of “red” books bargains, Mao posters, Russian symbols, accompanied by the sound of a Croatian traditional song (“Spavaj spavaj diticu”, to make a clear reference to the war in Croatia), are a testimony to the recent European past, as well as a statement against general amnesia that has marked both post-industrial and post-communist societies.
But, “the war is always somewhere else”. The photo of a passport is aligned next to the photos of war tanks, weapons and military airplanes. Footage shows US soldiers rejoicing and dancing to the sampled “music” of gunshot sounds in Afghanistan.
The ‘others’ imply that their bodies are more disposable and mortal, and the pain of ‘others; seems to be peripheral to the human masses, in spite of the power of  photography and media. We have face recognition software, but what and how much of human suffering do we recognize in a photo/image? We get an easy automated response to our (consumer tailored) needs (Siri, hello?), but show no reactions to others. We appear to have google maps that locate everything, but there seem to be no ‘maps for human suffering’. “As one can become habituated to horror in real life, one can become habituated to the horror of certain images,” states Susan Sontag in Regarding the pain of others.
Statements such as “we obey a fictional eye” and “our faces were attuned to a watchful eye—to adjust to being seen and shared” question and interpellate the capacity of reason and observation, even ‘common sense’ of the uniform masses, as well as the authority of god.
Indifference ‘to the pain of others’ is underscored by the repeated images of selfies and posing smilingly for selfies with a stick – a prolonged arm for the phone, restaurant images of food and drinks and a supply of a crane for “the ultimate selfie” in order to share the ultimate happiness with the world. Thus, we have cranes for photos to be shared on social media and drones for more arrogant photos and bombs. In parallel realities, innocent people die and disappear in wars, but we insist on more of our presence around the globe, offering our joy to the world.
But is this happiness fake or real? If it is real, how real is it? Do we know we are happy or do we act by orders? “Smile, be happy.” The collapse of the subject in post-modern age of neo-totalitarianism, post-truth and post-Trump?
In The origins of totalitarianism, Arendt stated decades ago: “In an ever-changing, incomprehensible world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and that nothing was true. ... Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow. The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement  was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness”.
As the mutations of the image follow the shifts of historical narratives, so the collapse of the subject as well as networks seems to be imminent. A pamphlet-like verbal segment declares: “Delete your own self, the networks collapse… the screen is crushed, instagram and facebook collapse”, raising a new set of questions: have smartphones become more clever than our brains? Do we base our knowledge on networks? Will our subjectivity collapse with the collapse of networks? Will our arm break together with the stick for selfies?
“The arrogance of the camera. This helicopter won’t come to the rescue. It will patiently film my killing”.
These words echo Susan Sontag’s statement that “the shock can become familiar: the ultra-familiar, ultra-celebrated image—of an agony, of ruin—is an unavoidable feature of our camera-mediated knowledge of war”. By analogy, they also mirror Glauber Rocha’s famous words that “the camera is a lie” or Jean-Luc Godard’s that “film is a reflection of the reality or the reality of reflection?”
The irony and powerlessness of the proliferation of narratives and realities can be demonstrated further by another example (not shown in the film): the phenomenon of Ron Haviv’s photo taken during the Bosnian war in March 1992, and used by Jean-Luc Godard in his video masterpiece Je vous salue, Sarajevo (1993), which pictures the Serbian soldier Srdjan Golubovic treading over a Bosnian female victim’s head; Srdjan Golubovic later became a famous DJ Max performing in various night clubs in Serbia, until he was arrested in 2012 not as a war criminal, but for possession of drugs.
“Good citizen, happy citizen, legal citizen, undocumented person, see-through person… I travelled here from far… I tried to forget what happened to me before I fled. No one believes me.  I have to be the evidence. I’m my own document”
This verbal narrative is intercut with the images of identity papers shown at borders, finger print scan check at airports, and “Ausländer” signs & grafitti, showing that, in spite of techno advances in industrial capitalism that might signal the arrival of a cyborg citizenship, the Western context, actually, reflects the return to hierarchy of white capitalist patriarchy, struggling with transculturality (which is one of the most significant influences of late post-modernity in Europe) and becoming more homogenous, closed and insecure at a time of increasing fascism and racism.
“You were quiet, you never talked”. “I” becomes “you” as an older “I” (the new generation) speaks to “you” in the future “that you never saw coming”.
“Will it be enough to love yourself?”
Contradictions and paradoxes of technology suggest that human bodies have become a source of maximum exploitation in the visual age: is it the end of the image, the end of knowledge, of imagination? Is the future foreseeable based on facebook, instagram and twitter? New forms of expression and representation are needed to reflect the changing and challenged subjectivity in the process of becoming autonomous agents of knowledge.
As the film title suggests, we are all ‘possessed’ by multiple master narratives: by technological advances, corporate structures, general amnesia, by the collapsed subject, beliefs that border on superstition, by our “shared” need to broadcast our lives to the world, selfies, fake smiles, illusory happiness (“the device did one thing really well – it made us always smile”), fake choices, fake needs created by fake consumerist capitalist discourse, by our own voyeurism and exhibitionism, by insanity and monstrosity of political leaders, powerful consumerist discourse, by our own powerlessness and indifference, failure to take responsibility, by the absence of empathy and love (“love yourself”), possessed by our own negligence to use our ‘cultural mirror’ in the midst of the collapse of the notions of self, knowledge and truth. We have timelines, but no time in the age of multiplication of signifiers and the collapse of the signifieds.
“If I had all faith, but have no love, I am nothing. Love is patient and kind, it doesn’t envy or boast, it’s not arrogant or rude… it rejoices with the truth.”
The acknowledgement of the ‘fact’ that we forgot how to love adds a new ontological dimension to Metahaven’s visual research, a more hopeful one than most current sci-fi dystopian narratives, as the present reality we live in, not the imaginary future, is already dystopian.  In other words, the imaginary of the social and technological can be equally democratising and constraining, but if approached responsibly, it will rather be the former.
By analogy to Alain Badiou’s Eloge de l’amour (2009), this new neither/nor space, which is not free of imperfections, but is free of estranging social confines and prohibitions, can work as an “angel of love”, a new imaginary space for a human encounter that may never occur, but could create a new unrestrained space of love and empathy.
Such an ending, in spite of the detached, almost robotic youthful voice-over, may offer a much needed disalienating, humanistic message, simultaneously subversive and self-authenticating, as the technological and hyper-rational advancements don’t necessarily imply human progress - to paraphrase Hemingway’s words: the invention of an airplane doesn’t mean that we move faster than a horse. An alternative to this ending is the return to pre-social, pre-linguistic, pre-discursive and – pre-technological, as the final images show warehouses in ruins, desolate lands and several masked women, wearing scarves to hide faces (with emojis, stickers & comic strip captions, designed by Metahaven), whispering inarticulately with their black shadows and holding big stones instead of smartphones.
Finally, in a call to challenge the structure of subjectivity, socio-political relations and the social imaginary that supports it, Possessed transforms the current debate of the binary opposition truth/facts and lies into questions of interpretation and epistemology, contextualising them, further, to not only how something is interpreted but who it is interpreted by (are we ‘preaching’ only to the converted?), who are the agents of knowledge and how newly gained knowledge serves to justify the existing beliefs of the masses. In other words, whose timeline is it?
This is, of course, only one of possible interpretations of the multilayered filmic reality.•

Whenever we discuss Eid, gratitude comes to our minds first – the celebration is linked to ideals such as respect, love, and generosity. The Muslim community celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, two different sorts of Eid. The celebration of sacrifice and dedication is known as Eid al-Adha. It shows a father giving up his son when the Almighty asks in the spirit of devotion. Thus, it is observed by offering sacrifices of animals, reciting sacred texts, feasting, and distributing presents to everyone. On the tenth day of the Islamic calendar's twelfth month, people in the United Arab Emirates commemorate Eid-al-Adha. Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr to mark the conclusion of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting. Giving Eid al-Fitr gifts to loved ones and participating in festive customs like eating sweet meals with family and friends are part of the occasion. Exchanging presents is significant in Islam generally, and it has long been a custom of the festival.
