DAY 9 (part 1): Ania and I woke up early to get ready so that we would make it in time to catch the early run of the hop-on-hop-off bus. Today was very cold, so we were happy to be on the bus for most of the tour. It was nice because we also received an audio guide to go along with our bus tour. We chose the city bus tour that stopped at all the main locations such as Mozart’s house, Hellbrunn Palace, and Mirabell Palace (just to name a few). One interesting fact I remember is that Mozart’s house got mostly destroyed during Second World War and was rebuilt in the 1990s. He also composed his first piece of music at age 5 (his house is photo of the sort of peach-colored building with the bus on the right hand side). We also got to see where Christian Doppler, who was an Austrian mathematician and physicist—best known for his theory of the Doppler Effect. It was a great tour and we even got to see the lake where the Sound Of Music was filmed. It was a bit difficult to see things because it was snowing and cloudy, but towards the end of the day it started to clear up and we decided to ride up the funicular to the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe.
