You will always be my Boot
Main masterlist | The rookie masterlist
Tim Bradford x FBI!FormerRookie!reader Fandom: The Rookie
Summary: You are a former FBI agent and come back to your roots after many years. Little did you know Tim waited for you all these years.
A/N: This is my first Tim Bradford one ever and I know I need some improvement in this police area. I'm thinking about making a part two of this. Anyways, let me know what you think. Have a wonderful day, bubs! Lots of love.
Requested: Yes Words: 2.5k Requests for Tim Bradford are open! GIF not mine, credits to the owner.
The flight was exhausting and the shitty bed from that cheap motel was even worse. They'd think an FBI agent would afford a five star hotel and a warm meal, instead of that reheated noodles you had last night, but LA is expensive as shit. One thing you didn't miss about this city were those self-centred Hollywood "stars" and the exorbitant prices.
You watched the time over and over again, shaking your foot nervously. You are ready to go, but you just can't gather the courage to face those police officers again. The bathroom light is dim and you put the blame on that for your horrendous bun, not because you lost practice. You redo the bun one more time and watch yourself in the mirror. LAPD uniform hugs your curves so perfectly and the overloaded belt accentuates your waist. You allow yourself to wear a small smile today, for the sake of old times.
The tranquility of the morning was shattered by the unmistakable sound of gunshots ringing out in the distance. Instantly alert, with your heart pounding in your chest as adrenaline surged through your veins, you grabbed your service weapon and badge, slipping them into your waistband as you hurried out the door and into the cool morning air.
As you made your way down the narrow staircase of the motel, the sounds of the gunshots grew louder, sending a chill down your spine. Stepping out onto the sidewalk, you quickly assessed the situationâa group of armed men engaged in a shootout with one another only a few blocks away. Confusion made its way to your mind; why would some people from the same gang fire at each other?
As you analyse their tattoos, some have it on their neck, some on their wrist, it snapped. You recognise those tattoos from your FBI files that lay on your motel bed, two different markings, two different gangs. Dangerous ones, wanted ones.
Without a second thought, you sprang into action, ducking behind parked cars and storefronts, you closed in on the scene, your heart pounding in your chest as you prepared to confront them. There's no time to wait for backup. And who'd you call anyway?
With a burst of adrenaline, you emerged from cover and sprinted towards the gunmen, your weapon drawn and ready. The element of surprise worked in your favor as you caught them off guard, their attention momentarily diverted as they turned to face you.
"Drop your weapons! FBI!" you shouted, your voice ringing out clear and commanding above the chaos of the shootout.
For a moment, there was hesitation in their eyes, uncertainty flickering across their faces as they weighed their options. But then, with a defiant snarl, they raised their guns once more, their fingers tightening on the triggers.
Time seemed to slow as the standoff unfolded, each moment stretched to its breaking point as you and the felons locked eyes, the tension thick in the air. And then, with a burst of gunfire, the situation erupted into chaos once more.
Bullets flew past you in a deadly dance as you returned fire, each shot ringing out like a thunderclap in the stillness of the morning. You managed to hit two of them, one in the shoulder, that dropped the gun and grabbed their wound in shock and the other one in the thigh, forcing them to fall into the ground. You didn't had enough handcuffs to secure them all, so it was your priority to stop them from running away until the officers arrived.
It's crazy to see how four rival gang members united to get rid of you when seconds before were about to blow their heads off.
"I said, drop your weapons, now!" you demanded to the masked one still standing, gunshots finally stopping. You didn't see any response or will to do so and that made you place aim for their legs as well, forcing them to collapse. "Hands behind your back, intertwine your fingers."
Before handcuffing them, you pulled up your phone and searched for that one number.
"Sergeant Grey" the voice on the other side responded.
"Agent Y/L/N, FBI. I have in custody two of Crenshaw and two of Tongan. I need backup and R/A. Crenshaw bulevard with W 66th Street." you informed Sergeant Grey.
"Copy that."
Not long after you made the call, three cars and an ambulance pulled up to the address you gave. The look on the officers faces when they saw you holding one handcuffed suspect and three injured on the street, was as satisfying as catching those. Adrenaline still coursing through your veins, you couldn't help but feel a sense of pride wash over you.
"Y/L/N, FBI." you presented yourself to the officers, you showed your badge and shake their hands, each wearing a mortified expression after they heard your name. "After they're checked, let's get going. I'm late for my first day." you demanded and the six officers nodded as an understanding.
You could tell by the look on their faces, some of them are rookies. You can't forget those eyes, you had the exact same expression when you were a rookie and as Tim as your T.O. didn't help much.
"Agent Y/L/N." a serious tone came from just as a serious man. Sergeant Grey standing tall and imposing in the booking room as you walked the men to one of the benches and let another officer take care of him. As you approached the man, a big and friendly smile appeared on his face "It's so good to have you back."
"Good to be back, sir." you accepted his handshake with that small smile from the morning that you promised yourself you'd be wearing all day.
Your name was on everyone's lips as you walked through the station besides Grey.
It had been years since you last walked these familiar corridors, but as you made your way toward the meeting room, a sense of nostalgia washed over you.
"Is that Y/N?" one officer whispered to another, having the impression you didn't hear them.
"Yeah. Still hot. Heard she's working with FBI now." that remark made you turn your head in their direction, locking your eyes with one of them as he swallowed the lump in his throat and returning to his seat.
Inside, the meeting room was filled with the buzz of conversation as officers gathered for the morning briefing. All eyes turned to you as you entered, whispers and murmurs following in your wake. You could feel the weight of their scrutiny, their curiosity palpable in the air as they watched the former FBI agent return to their ranks.
"Good morning everyone. Sorry I'm late, had to take care of something so early this morning because someone doesn't sleep." he glanced at you and the murmur stopped when the eyes landed on you standing in the doorframe. "Take a sit." you nodded and sat down in the first row.
"Is that Y/N?" Lucy whispered to Nolan and Jackson. It was impossible to shake the feeling of being under a microscope, every move you made scrutinized by your colleagues.
"Hell, yeah, she is!" Jackson laid his eyes on you and gave you an appreciation smile.
As the sergeant launched into the details of the day's assignments and priorities, you found it difficult to concentrate, the weight of everyone's eyes on you making it hard to focus. But you pushed through, determined to prove yourself in your new role as a police officer.
"Today we made serious progress towards the gangs that won't let Los Angeles sleep in peace. Agent Y/L/N, first thing in the morning had in custody four men, almost as important as the gang leaders." your mind zoned out, you already knew that story. But what you didn't know and what's really eating you inside is that specific blond man.
In the corner of the room, Talia and Angela exchanged knowing glances, their whispers barely audible over the sergeant's voice.
"Can you believe she's back?" Angela muttered.
"I heard she was with the FBI," Talia replied, her voice tinged with curiosity. "Wonder what brought her back here."
"From an FBI agent to an officer? Seems like a joke to me..." Lopez paused as she looked at Tim for a moment. "Maybe something bad happened. Maybe she did something bad." the excitement of her voice was unquestionable.
Meanwhile, Tim Bradford watched from his seat at the front of the room, his expression unreadable as he observed the scene unfolding before him. Memories of your time together as rookie and training officer flashed through his mind, the bond you had shared still lingering despite the years apart.
"I heard she was the best rookie this station ever had. And it was his rookie, can you believe that!" Angela's mind was focused on one subject and one only. She is more than convinced that something has happened between you and Tim.
"Almost 100 on every exam and she was the only person this grumpy smiled to!" Talia added, making Tim shift uncomfortable in his seat, his eyes not letting the sight of you even for a second.
"That's not true. And I'm not grumpy, I do smile..." Tim responded to their feminine gossip, something he's not doing too often. He still thinks it's a waste of time this kind of conversation and one's personal life is no one's business, but maybe, maybe he wants to know more about you. "Sometimes"
He was wondering as well what could've possibly had happened to make you come back to LA, knowing very well how much you hated the city and how much you suffered the moment you stepped on that plane.
Tim's heart was below the sea's surface, buried inside the burning hell somewhere since the moment he caught a glimpse of your siluete walking around these hallways again. His hands were sweating and the lump in his throat could swallow him.
But you were nowhere far away from that feeling either. All the feelings from back then were coming alive faster than the light-speed and the memories of the time you were his rookie, the looks, the touches, the sweetness of his words alongside the glances from your colleagues made your eyes fill with bittersweet tears. You had to raise your head a little and blink as fast as you could to make those tears disappear and take a few deep breaths to calm down. You have to put this feelings aside. Now.
As the meeting drew to a close, Sergeant Gray turned his attention to you, his gaze lingering for a moment before moving on to the next item on the agenda.
"You're dismissed and be safe out there!" Gray closed the meeting and everyone rushed to start the day.
You waited for everyone to clear the room, mostly because you hate crowded places and people jostling around. You kept your head low, already full of everyone staring. When the room cleared just enough, you wanted to make your way to Sergeant Gray's office when a big, warm hand landed on your shoulder, freezing you on spot.
Some time ago, you knew by heart every single trace and curve of that hand, and now your mind doesn't disappoint you remembering it all with just a blink. His breath winding down your spine as minty as always.
You hated him. You hated yourself. Damn, you hate everyone and everything this moment.
"Y/N." his voice was as overwhelming as always and it made your feet weak. It made you weak and it hit you hard right into your bones. You didn't think twice and as you raised your chin up high and faked a confident expression, you turned to your heels to face him. Once and for all. "I can't believe you're back."
"Tim" you nodded, greeting him with a smile. This time a genuine one, wider and more powerful than the one you had forced yourself to wear all day. Not a forced one, but one that you found you couldn't hide. "It's been a while." you cleared your throat and searched his eyes.
They were staring right into your soul with the same spark and love you've missed so much. It seems like you've never changed, seems like everything is just the way it was. Like he was your TO, teaching you, teasing you, caring for you, having your back and you were his rookie, learning from him, turning into the best version of him, making him proud.
The air between you crackled with unspoken tension as you struggled to find the right words to say. The spark that had once ignited between you still burned bright, despite the years and distance that had separated you.
"How are you? How's Isabel?"
"Uh-Yeah..." he paused for a moment, the light in his eyes fading. "We separated a few months ago."
Tim wished this words would hurt more admitting them in front of you, would hurt just as much as he hurt you. But it didn't. That wound is almost healed, making room for another one to open.
"Oh, Tim. I'm so sorry" you were sincere, though not with all your heart. You knew it must've hurt like hell having in mind how much Tim loved his wife. But at some point he loved you too. Maybe not as much as her, maybe more, maybe less.
"But I'm fine, yeah. It's past now." he cracked a smile, resting his arm on the table as close to your thigh as you could feel its warmth. "What about you? Making an entrance for sure. Catching those guys from Crenshaw and Tongan, impressive. I taught you well." oh, he knows what he's doing and watching your shield breaking before his eyes, he's delighted.
"Oh, don't be so cockyâ"
"Why are you here? Why now?" he asked. You rested your hand on your belt and raised an eyebrow as a response to his questions.
"You know I can't tell you." he sighed at your words, realising just now maybe the things are not how they were. You are not as open to him or talkative as before. You are not in love with him as you were before. But he's not done trying yet.
"Dinner tonight?" Tim was bold for sure and his question took you by surprise. You weighed the answer, but before you could say yes, he continued "I can't lose the chance again. I can't lose you again, Boot."
"Okay, yes!" you pushed your finger into his chest "Stop making those puppy eyes, you know I can't resist." he laughed and before you can walk away, he grabbed your waist and kissed your forehead gently. His lips lingering on your skin few more seconds, memorising your sweet scent, trying to remember it, like if he could ever forget.
"It's good to have you back, Boot!"
"Stop calling me 'Boot'!" you fought back, annoyed, but he enjoyed every moment. He missed you like hell and now all of this is hitting him hard in the face like a... boot. "I'm not your Boot" you persisted.
"Oh, you'll always be my Boot!"

I don't think you're just protecting her. I think you're protecting yourself. There's something else you did, that you don't want to admit. And you're basing this on?

Every time she thought her life couldnât get worse, something new seemed to be waiting for her. First, her husband announced he was leaving, telling her heâd found a woman he loved in a way he had never loved her. She tried to fight for their marriage and convince him to change his mind, but nothing worked. With a broken heart, she finally decided to let him go. Even though her heart shattered into a thousand pieces, she signed the divorce papers. She attempted to rebuild her lifeâshe found a small apartment, focused on her work, and tried not to sink into depression during the long, lonely hours. Thankfully, she wasnât entirely alone. Tim Bradford, her best friend for years, had always been by her side, even in the middle of the night when she couldnât stop crying or obsessing over what had gone wrong in her relationship. He was her rock, her greatest support.
Just when she thought her life was starting to settle down, she began feeling unwell. At first, she attributed it to stress, but eventually, she connected the dots and took a pregnancy test, which came back positive. She knew her ex-husband deserved to know the truth, even if he hadnât been entirely honest with her. So, she texted him and asked to meet. What followed, however, was nothing short of her worst nightmare.
When they met at the cafĂŠ, she felt as if time had slowed down. He sat across from her, completely indifferent, as if everything that had happened between them was a closed chapter. He looked at her with a cold gaze, waiting for her to speak. She struggled to gather the strength to say the words that had been swirling in her head for days.
âIâm pregnant,â she finally said, looking straight at him, searching for any reaction. His face remained expressionless. For a moment, she thought maybe he hadnât heard her. But after a second, his lips tightened, and his eyes showed a flicker of displeasure.
âThe relationship between us was over long before I found someone else. This changes nothing,â he said coldly. Those words cut her like a knife.Â
âIâm not telling you to come back to me⌠Itâs your child and deserves to have a father⌠â she tried to insist, though her voice trembled.
âThatâs your problem. Youâll have to deal with it,â he replied emotionlessly, standing up from the table as if the meeting had been nothing more than an irritating interruption in his perfectly arranged new life.
When he left, she felt as if the world was collapsing around her. Tears welled up in her eyes, but this time, she wasnât going to cry. Instead, she pulled out her phone and called Tim. As soon as he heard her voice, he knew something was wrong.
âWhere are you?â he asked, no questions needed. âIâm on my way.â
It wasnât even fifteen minutes before Tim was by her side, his eyes filled with concern. Without a word, he pulled her close, letting her lean on him as she fought back the tears. In his presence, she felt the tension in her body begin to ease.
âTim⌠Thereâs something you should know. IâŚâ She took a shaky breath. She felt his hold tighten around her. He rested his cheek against her head, softly rubbing her back with his hand.
âWhatever it is, weâll handle it together. Like we always do,â he said calmly, trying to give her as much comfort as possible.
âIâm pregnant,â she whispered, feeling a lump in her throat. âAnd itâs his. But he said itâs only my problem. He doesnât want anything to do with this babyâŚâ For a moment, his face showed surprise, as if he was trying to process what he had just heard. He didnât say anything at first, pulling back slightly to look at her, and she wasnât sure how he would react. She feared that silence, that hesitation.
âOkay,â he finally said, slowly. Tim pressed his lips together, clearly upset, though he tried to stay calm. âHeâs a jerk. But you wonât go through this alone. Youâll never be aloneâI wonât let that happen.â
True to his word, Tim never let her feel alone. From the moment he learned about her pregnancy, he stepped naturally into a role that felt both essential and reassuring. He took over her usual shopping, refusing to let her carry a single bag, insisting it was the least he could do. Each morning, he arrived at her door with fresh breakfast, right after his run with Kojo, the loyal dog who seemed to sense the changes happening in their lives.
Even during his shifts, Tim made it a point to check-in. He texted her regularly, asking how she felt, and called just to hear her voice, attuned to any subtle shifts in her mood. But his favourite part of the day was always the evenings when he would come to her home. Most nights, she greeted him with a smile, though the fatigue etched on her face often told a different story. Each time, he pulled her into a warm embrace, holding her like a protective blanket. Some nights she hugged him back just as tightly; other times, she simply leaned into him, letting him hold her. On those nights, he sent her to the couch, where Kojo would curl up beside her, resting his head on her lap, seeking her affection.
Tim loved cooking dinner for them, always mindful of preparing meals that wouldnât upset her stomach. He quickly learned what she could tolerate and what made her feel worse. On the rare occasions, his cooking didnât go as planned, he would kneel beside her in the bathroom, holding her hair back and rubbing her backâhis unwavering support something she had come to rely on deeply.
What he cherished most were their late-night conversations. They talked endlessly, about work, their future, and even the small details of their day. These talks deepened their bond with each passing evening.
But tonight felt different. From the moment he arrived, he noticed the exhaustion in her eyes, the way her thoughts seemed miles away. Sensing the shift, he suggested watching a movie theyâd been meaning to catch up on. She quietly agreed, thankful for the distraction, and didnât protest when he pulled her close, wrapping his arm around her.
As they settled in, her hand absentmindedly rested on her stomach, where a small bump had just begun to show. Though she tried not to dwell on it, her mind wandered back to something a colleague had said earlier. The words echoed painfully in her thoughtsâthat it was her fault her husband had left, and that Tim was only with her out of pity. The sting of those words hung heavy on her heart. Tim had always been her rock, but now, more than ever, she felt guilty leaning on him. This wasnât his burden to carry; she had to find her strength in the chaos.
âTim,â she began softly, breaking the silence. âI feel like Iâve dragged you into something you didnât sign up for. This isnât your responsibility. Me, this baby⌠weâre not your burden.â
Tim frowned, shaking his head firmly. âThatâs not how I see it. I want to be here. I choose to be here. Youâre important to meâalways have been, always will be. Now that just extends to your baby too. Youâre not dragging me into anything. Iâm choosing this.â
She blinked back the tears threatening to spill over. The certainty in his voice made her heart ache in the best possible way. Maybe, just maybe, she didnât have to go through this alone. Yet doubt still lingered on the edges of her mind.
âAre you sure?â she whispered, her hands trembling slightly. âThis is going to change everything.â
âIâm sure,â he replied without hesitation. Gently, he placed his hand over hers, almost covering her small bump. âWeâre in this together. All three of us.â They both chuckled softly as Kojo, lying contentedly by her feet, gave a small bark. âAlright, four of us,â Tim added with a grin.
She nodded slowly and leaned back against his side. No matter what uncertainties lay ahead, Tim brought peace and safety into her life. As she felt him press a soft kiss on the top of her head, she knew that he was in this 100 percent. With him by her side, she felt ready to face every step of the journey ahead.
As the movie played in the background, a warm sense of comfort washed over her. Despite the unknowns of the future, she had her best friend, someone who believed in both her and the life they were building together. And together, they could face whatever came next.
The quiet hum of the ultrasound machine filled the small room, the rhythmic beeps syncing with her heartbeat. The sound, once foreign and unnerving, had become strangely comforting, marking each milestone of a journey sheâd never thought possible. Lying back, her hand rested gently on her growing belly, feeling the warmth of the life moving inside herâa sensation that was as awe-inspiring as it was surreal. The nurse moved the cold, gel-covered probe across her skin, and though a shiver ran up her spine, she barely registered it. Her eyes were locked on the screen, waiting for the familiar grainy image of her baby to appear.
And then it didâa blur at first, slowly sharpening into the unmistakable shape of tiny hands and feet, twisting and turning as if to greet them. A soft gasp escaped her lips. No matter how many times she witnessed this, it always left her breathless.
Tim sat beside her, his eyes fixed on the monitor, a quiet smile playing on his lips. His face, usually so composed, softened with awe. He had always been good at hiding his emotions, but moments like these stripped away his calm facade. Without thinking, his hand found hers, their fingers entwining in a silent exchange of support. He gave her a gentle squeeze, then leaned in and pressed a light kiss on the top of her hand. It was a gesture so natural, so full of unspoken affection, that it nearly brought tears to her eyes.
"Everything looks perfect," the nurse said, her tone upbeat as she wiped the gel from her belly. "Babyâs healthy and growing right on track."
She nodded, a wave of relief washing over her. The tight knot of anxiety that had taken up residence in her chest loosenedâif only a little. Each passing month had brought new fears and uncertainties, but slowly, those feelings were giving way to cautious hope. It had taken longer than she expected to feel this way, but now, she could finally begin to see herself as a mother. And in every vision of that future, Tim was always there, steady and unwavering, just as he had been from the beginning.
After the appointment, Tim stood and offered her his hand, helping her off the exam table with the ease of someone who had been there through every step. His presence had become her constant, a source of comfort she hadnât known she would need but now couldnât imagine living without. Over the months, he had kept every promise, never wavering, never complainingâalways there, even when she didnât know how to ask for help.
âHow are you feeling?â he asked as they stepped outside the clinic, the crisp air hitting their faces. His hand hovered near her arm, close but not quite touchingâa subtle, protective gesture, ready to catch her if she stumbled.
âIâm good,â she said, a small smile pulling at her lips. âBetter than Iâve felt in a long time.â
He nodded, clearly pleased, though his eyes still scanned hers, searching for any sign of discomfort or worry. âYouâre handling this like a champ,â he said softly.
She let out a light laugh. âI donât always feel like it, but Iâm trying.â
As they walked to his car, their footsteps fell into an easy rhythm, the silence between them comfortable and familiar. When they reached the car, Tim opened the passenger door for her, but before getting in, she paused, turning to face him, her expression suddenly serious.
âTim,â she began, her voice quiet but steady, âyouâve been amazing. I wouldnât have made it this far without you. I mean it. Youâve taken care of usâeven though you didnât have to.â
He looked at her, his warm, reassuring smile never faltering. âYou donât need to thank me,â he replied softly. âIâm just glad I can be here.â
But she saw something flicker in his eyesâsomething deeper, something he wasnât saying. Tim was always so careful, so controlled with his emotions, but she had known him long enough to recognize when he was holding something back. Yet she didnât press him. Not now.
As they drove back to her apartment, the conversation shifted to lighter topicsâbaby names they hadnât yet decided on, the nursery they were slowly piecing together, and the never-ending stream of baby books filling her apartment. They laughed about the absurd number of gadgets people swore they "needed" for a newborn, trading jokes about the most ridiculous ones.
Yet beneath their playful banter, there was a tension neither acknowledged, an unspoken understanding hanging in the air. Tim had always kept his distance emotionally, respectful of her space, never pushing her for more than she was ready to give. He had made it clear from the start that he was there to support her, no matter what, and he had lived up to that promise in every way. But that didnât stop his heart from racing when she smiled, or the way his pulse quickened when their hands brushed accidentally.
He had loved her for yearsâlong before she had married before everything had fallen apart with her ex-husband. Tim had watched her fall for someone else, had been there when her heart broke, and now, here he was, still by her side. Taking care of her, taking care of the baby that wasnât his.
He never said anything. He couldnât. His feelings had to wait. Right now, all that mattered was her and the baby. His love, his desiresâthey would come later. For now, being there was enough. It had to be.
As the weeks passed, their lives settled into a comforting rhythm, though they didnât notice the subtle shift that began to happen between them. Unspoken feelings hovered just beneath the surface, and they found themselves growing closer, more open with one another. Friends started to notice too. They exchanged knowing smiles as Timâs touch lingered a little longer on her arm or back.
Angela Lopez had rolled her eyes more than once when hearing endless stories about âTimâs friendâ and all the thoughtful things he did for her and the baby. Whenever she visited the station with sweet treats for everyone, Angela often caught Tim and her in quiet moments, where their connection seemed palpable. More than once, Angela noticed the way she would place his hand over her bump when the baby kicked, and how Tim responded with a smile that said more than words ever could.
The biggest change came one evening while they were assembling the crib. She sat comfortably in a rocking chair, one hand resting on her belly, the other absentmindedly petting Kojoâs head as he lay beside her. The dog had become as protective of her as Tim was, always at her side when he could be.
She watched as Tim wrestled with the instruction manual, his brow furrowed in concentration. âYouâre doing it wrong,â she teased, smiling.
âI am not,â he shot back, glancing up with mock indignation. âIâve got this.â
As he fumbled with the crib parts, she laughedâa sound that felt like a rare gift these days. For a moment, it was just like old timesâbefore the pregnancy, before the heartbreak. Just the two of them, shared an easy, familiar joy that felt like home.
Tim looked up from the pieces scattered on the floor and froze for a second, watching her laugh. He hadnât heard that sound in too long. It was unguarded, real. He smiled, letting himself soak in the moment.
âWell, if youâre so good at this, why donât you help instead of just sitting there judging my work?â he teased, raising an eyebrow.
She grinned. âIâm perfectly comfortable where I am, thanks. Besides, youâre doing great. Itâs... entertaining.â
He chuckled and shook his head, returning to the task, muttering under his breath about her stubbornness. But secretly, he didnât mind. Knowing she was there, watching him, laughingâit felt right. Like this was exactly where they were meant to be.
As the crib finally took shape, something between them shifted. There was an unspoken understanding in the air, something neither had fully acknowledged until now. Tim glanced at her, and for a moment, they simply stared at each other.
He reached out, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering on her cheek longer than necessary. She leaned into his touch, her breath catching in her throat.
That was all the encouragement he needed.
Without thinking, Tim leaned in and kissed her, softly at first, hesitant. But when she kissed him back, her hand slipping to the back of his neck, pulling him closer, it felt like the most natural thing in the world. Thisâthisâwas where they were always meant to end up.
Together.
She struggled to breathe deeply as she slowly made her way down the hospital corridor, her grip tightening around the IV stand. Another contraction surged through her, pulling a low moan from her lips. She tried to focus on the gentle support of Nylaâs hand on her arm, but the pain was too consumingâsharp and overwhelming. When it finally ebbed, she glanced over at Nyla, her eyes filled with worry.
âHave you heard from Tim?â Her voice cracked, and tears welled up as she caught Nylaâs sympathetic smile.
âI texted him, and Grey knows to pass the message along. Heâs coming,â Nyla reassured her. âTim wouldnât miss this for the world.â
She nodded, but a flicker of doubt gnawed at her. âI hope so⌠I donât know if I can do this without him.â Her words were barely more than a whisper, her emotions unravelling.
âYouâre stronger than you think,â Nyla said softly, her hand squeezing in quiet encouragement. âBut heâll be here, donât worry.â
She tried to smile, but the uncertainty lingered. Tim had been her rock for so longâhow could she face this moment without him? Nylaâs presence was a comfort, but it wasnât the same.
They continued their slow walk back to the room for another check-up. The nurse met them with a concerned expression before examining her. When she announced that she was still far from delivering, a groan of frustration escaped her. She sank onto the bed, burying her face in her hands.
âI donât know how much more I can take,â she whispered, her voice thick with exhaustion. âI just want to hold my baby.â Nyla brushed a lock of hair from her face, her steady presence an anchor.
âSoon,â she promised gently. âSoon.â
The hours crawled by in a blur of contractions and fleeting moments of rest. She clung to Nylaâs guidance, her body trembling from fatigue until the door suddenly swung open. Her breath caught as Tim rushed inside, his face flushed with worry.
âIâm sorry Iâm late,â he said, hurrying to her side. His hand found hers instantly, and the crushing weight of fear lifted just a little.
âYouâre here,â she whispered, her voice breaking with relief as fresh tears filled her eyes. He pressed a kiss to the back of her hand, his touch grounding her in the storm of pain and anxiety.
âI wouldnât miss this for the world,â he murmured, leaning down to kiss her forehead. His presence radiated warmth, steadying her as another contraction gripped her.
âIâm so glad youâre here,â she managed between ragged breaths, her emotions spiralling. âI donât know how Iâd get through this without you.â
âYou would,â he said softly, squeezing her hand. âBut now that Iâm here, Iâm not going anywhere.â His gaze held hers, his thumb brushing soothing circles on her skin as another wave of pain washed over her.
They endured the hours together, Tim never leaving her side. His strength, and his quiet, unwavering support gave her the determination she needed to push through. The world blurred around them as they focused on bringing this new life into the world.
Then, after what felt like an eternity, the sharp, piercing cry of a newborn filled the room. She gasped, tears streaming down her face as the nurse placed the tiny, wriggling bundle on her chest. Her arms instinctively wrapped around the baby, and she looked up at Tim. His eyes were wide, filled with awe and tears he didnât bother to wipe away.
She looked down at the baby, overwhelmed by the fragile, perfect little face scrunched up in protest. "Hi, sweet baby," she whispered, her voice shaking with emotion. Her fingers brushed gently over the babyâs soft cheek. "Iâm your mom."
Tim stood by her side, his hand resting on her shoulder as he gazed at the baby with pure wonder. When he finally spoke, his voice was thick with emotion. "Sheâs perfect," he whispered, unable to look away.
âWe did it,â she whispered, her eyes meeting his in a moment of shared joy.
Tim bent down, pressing a kiss to the babyâs head. "Welcome to the world," he murmured. "Weâve been waiting for you."
The babyâs cries softened, and the room fell into a peaceful quiet as if time had paused, leaving just the three of them cocooned in the moment. She couldnât stop the tearsâthis time, they were tears of love, of pure joy. This was a happiness she had never known, a completeness she hadnât imagined was possible.
âDo you want to hold her?â she asked, her voice trembling with emotion.
Tim hesitated but then nodded, his hands gentle as the nurse helped him take the baby into his arms. He cradled the tiny bundle as though it were the most precious thing in the world, and in that moment, his love was unmistakable.
"Hi there... Iâm Tim," he whispered, his voice catching in his throat. He paused, then added, âIâm not your dad, but I promise Iâll love you like one.â
Her heart swelled at his words. Reaching out, she rested her hand on his arm, gazing at the baby in his arms. âTim... you are the father she deserves. Youâve cared for her from the start. Youâve been there every step of the way... and I love you for that.â
As the baby stirred, Tim smiled through his tears, and for the first time, she felt truly whole. This was their familyâimperfect, unexpected, but overflowing with love. And as Tim bent down to kiss her lips, sealing the moment, she knew that they had found their way home.

the rookie fandom is probably one of THE worst fandoms i have ever stepped in!! cuz. like. (oh and if ur mad about what i have to say, idc <3 stay mad lol)
why the FUCK do yall always have something against john nolan?? the MAIN character?? and itâs always the stupidest reasons too. itâs always;
âi hate nolan cuz he dated lucy!â and nobody cares! it happened, get over it. it only lasted for TWO, maybe THREE episodes and you people act like it lasted a whole fucking season. bffr.
âwhyâs the show always about him. whereâs chenford..â i donât fucking remember this being âmelissa & ericâs showâ, itâs NOT. this NATHANâS SHOW. HIS SHOW. HE MADE IT. HEâS THE MAIN CHARACTER FOR A REASON. EMPHASIS ON THE MAIN!!! (AND HEâS ALSO THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER.) i did NOT see the show starting with lucy, OR tim. it started with NOLAN.
âlucy is the star of the show!â wrap it up, ur embarrassing urself atp.
AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE TRAUMA COMPARING.. âlucy has been through so much! đĽşđĽşâ / âtim has been through so much đĽşđĽşâ âŚok. did we watch the same show. did lucy or tim get framed by their best friend? no. did lucy or tim get held at gunpoint/held hostage multiple times? no. did lucy or tim watch their captain die and tried to save her? no. did either of them get held hostage on their honeymoon? no! and and and!! did lucy or tim SAVE wesley when they were gonna leave him behind? SURE AS HELL NOT TIM OR LUCY. who was there for all of that? NOLAN.
if nathan fillion never stopped doing cayde-6 in destiny 2, the rookie would never exist. ur fav characters from the rookie would never exist. chenford would NOT fucking exist. NONE OF IT, would exist if nathan fillion was still working with bungie. so sit the fuck down and tell nathan (and alexi) âthank you for the rookie!â

Lucy Chen x reader
Staff outing and they end up going home together and rushing to work the next day and people start asking questions and Angela and Tim end up figuring it out when reader and Lucy leave work together at the end of the day
nothing
When the alarm clock woke both of you up this morning, your eyes burnt from lack of sleep and your neck was aching from the position you slept in last night.
Last night was a last second outing that John of all people suggested, but it was a much needed break.
So much so that even Tim accepted the invitation.
Everyone had a good time and at the end of the night, Lucy offered to âdrive you homeâ because youâd left your car at the station, riding over to the bar with her.
But the truth was you and Lucy had been dating for some time and hadnât spent the night together yet. Lucy suggested the two of you should spend the night together. Nothing sexual, but she wanted to sleep in the same bed as you, because as stupid as it sounded, she just wanted to hold you after the week youâve all had.
She reaches over you to shut the alarm off, settling herself on top of you.
âHi,â Lucy looks down nervously, an anxious smile on her lips.
âHi,â You reach up and twirl a few strands of her hair between your fingers. âYouâre cute when you wake up.â
âStop,â Lucy shakes her head and falls back into her spot in bed.
âCome back,â You chuckle and roll over so youâre on top of her.
She looks into your eyes and leans up to put a soft kiss on your lips.
You make a face when her lips leave yours and she puts her hand over her mouth.
âOh,â She speaks through her fingers. âI have really bad morning breath. Iâm so sorry.â
She begins to laugh and you shake your head, removing her hand from her lips to you can get another kiss.
âI donât care,â You say as you kiss her again. âI just wanted another kiss.â
âThat can be arranged,â Lucy moves her hand to snake around your neck to pull you closer when her second alarm goes off.
She groans softly and reaches over to turn the alarm off again.
âJust.. just five more minutes,â Lucy moves back over and pulls your face back to hers.
âLucy Chen, are you asking for a five minute make out like teenagers?â
âMaybe,â She shrugged, the newfound confidence glowing on her skin.
âIâm down,â You smile and give a soft nip at her lip.
âI cannot believe we are late,â Lucy throws her head back angrily as she swings the door open to the station.
âLuce,â You say in a soft voice, pulling her aside in the lobby. âItâs okay, alright?â
âWellâ whaââ
âShh,â You press a finger to her lips. âWe will figure it out, okay? I promise.â
She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, âOkay.â
Lucy opens her eyes and smiles nervously. âI really want to kiss you right now.â
âWhat? You didnât get enough this morning?â You wink and walk through to the main section of the station, making your way towards the locker room.
âBoot!â You suddenly stop at Angelaâs words. âWhere have you been? Iâve been waiting.â
âUm..â You look around and move your bag up on your arm to buy time. âWell Lucy drove me to the bar last night and then home and my car was still here. And you seeââ
âI didnât ask for your whole life story. Just say you left your car and Lucy had to go out of her way to get you,â Angela puts her hand up. âGet changed and hurry. Weâre running a high stakes operation today, and you shouldâve been in an hour ago.â
âYes maâam,â You hurry off and only then does she notice that youâre wearing the same shirt from last night.
Youâre all but finished changing when Lucy finally comes through the doors.
âWhat took you so long?â You ask, taking extra time to pull your shoes on.
âTim,â She shakes her head, opening her locker and pulling clothes on. âHe chewed me out in front of the whole station? Can you believe it? Actually, donât answer that because we both believe it. Iâve never been late the whole time Iâve worked here â unless it was life threatening â and the one time I accidentally do he has something to say. God, I canât believe we were late. And they are out there gossiping, and justââ
âLucy, baby,â You stand and pull her in by her open uniform top, placing another kiss on her lips. âI promise you, itâs going to be okay.â
âOkay,â She nods and presses her lips onto yours again. âWeâll be okay.â
âChen! L/n! Letâs go!â Angelaâs voice booms from the door and you finish putting your shoe on.
âIâll see you out there my love,â You place a rushed kiss onto her cheek and are out the door in a second.
âTook you long enough,â Angela says, lurking by the door.
She squints at you and you put a hand on your chest from her scaring you.
âOh myâ donât do that,â You furrow your brows together. âWhat is that face for?â
âNothing,â She tilts her lips down and shakes her head.
âDoesnât seem like nothing,â Itâs your turn to squint now.
Lucy stumbles out of the locker room, still buttoning up her shirt.
âWhat are you guys standing out here for?â
âNothing,â Angela continues shaking her head, looking between the two of you. She leaves the two of you standing with a chuckle.
She walks back over to Tim and the two of them turn away to talk while you and Lucy share a look.
âLetâs go,â Tim turns around after a second. âNot you, Chen. I want L/n with me today.â
âGood job today, boot,â Tim says as the two of you exit the shop.
âThank you, Officer Bradford,â You nod, eager to be praised from another officer other than your TO.
âYou know, with being late and everything.â
You roll your eyes once he turns away from you and you walk behind him to return the war bags.
âThe paperwork will be waiting on your desk,â Tim stands beside you awkwardly, his lips resting in a straight line as you return the bags and put your body cam back.
âDo you need something?â You ask with a confused face.
âNope.â
âOkay so whatâs wrong?â You move to walk towards the locker room.
âNothing,â He shakes his head with the same expression Angela had earlier.
âOkay, what is wrong with you guys?â You raise your voice slightly. âYou and Lopez. You keep making that face. Am I not allowed to ask Lucy for a ride to work?â
His eyes change at the use of first name and not last name like you normally would.
You huff and walk off, âLeave the paperwork on my desk.â
âAlready planned on it.â
You make your way to your locker, and most of the women were also changing at the same time, so you couldnât get a fix of the craving you wanted. (Kissing Lucy).
You settled on a few secretive looks in her direction, which very much did not go unnoticed by Angela.
You and Lucy finished at the same time, her going a little slower once you came into the locker room make sure you were done at the same time.
Lucy keeps a hold of your bag strap as the two of you exit the station, Angela following close behind.
Tim is standing at the exit â in a darker area, where Lucy and you canât see him â waiting for Angela.
They both stand together, watching for the two of you to make any moves that indicate you are more than friends.
You hop in the passenger side of Lucyâs car and the two of them share a look.
âThey are so together,â Angela stands with her arms crossed over her chest, sticking one hand out.
âYeah, I hate to admit, but youâre right,â He slaps a twenty in her palm.

When you and Tim arrive at the station in the early morning, almost simultaneously, the air tingles with excitement.
Your arms are loaded with coffee cups, and as you struggle with the door, Tim effortlessly steps forward, his hand finding its place on the small of your back as he holds the door open, guiding you inside and allowing you to score another point.
A rush of warmth floods through you at his touch, but you quickly push the feeling aside, burying it beneath layers of familiarity and friendship. With a proud smile, you stride inside, leading the way.
You and Tim go way backâto those academy days when the competition between you two was as fierce as it was playful. That bond has stuck like glue through all the twists and turns of life, making you each other's ride-or-die. But to everyone else, it's crystal clear there's more brewing between you two than just a regular friendship.
Angela, Lucy, and Nolan greeted you with warm smiles as you approached, carefully balancing the steaming morning fuel. Tim lingered close behind, his grumpiness belying the playful twinkle in his eyes.
You handed out the coffees, your smile widening as Tim stepped forward to claim his cup. But before he could reach for it, you pulled it back with a mischievous grin.
"You're late, Bradford," you teased.
Tim's lips quirked into a half-smile as he reached for the cup, his fingers brushing against yours for a fraction of a second longer than necessary.
"62 to 58, you're getting lazy," you added.
"I'm not lazy," he retorted, his tone playful but firm. "I got stuck in traffic."
You rolled your eyes at his excuse, but the warmth in your chest told you that you wouldn't have it any other way.
Tim's got this tough-guy act going on, but deep down, he's got a soft spot for your sunshine personality, that smile of yours that could light up a room, and how you're always there for everyone. He won't come out and say it, claiming he's a man and men don't have BFFs, but deep down, you mean the world to him. He'd take a bullet for you in a heartbeat, no questions asked.
Whenever you're around, Tim's whole attitude changes. That grumpy exterior melts away, replaced by this warmth in his eyes that's just for you. You bring out a side of him that most people never see, and he treasures every moment he gets to spend with you. He might not say it out loud, but his actions scream it - you're not just his friend or colleague; you're everything to him.
When Tim glanced at his coffee cup and spotted the name Loser,he couldn't help but suppress a chuckle behind a façade of annoyance. "Seriously?" he grumbled, holding the cup up for you to see.
You just flashed him an innocent smile, grabbing his arm and guiding him towards the locker room to get ready for the shift.
"You and I, Bradford, we'll have so much fun together at the spa," you teased.
"Don't get your hopes up, Bug," Tim retorted, though there was a hint of fondness in his tone.
As you both walked away, Angela watched with a knowing smile. She had seen firsthand how your friendship with Tim had evolved over the years, and she knew there was something more between you two. She had watched as you both danced around your feelings, too afraid and too proud to admit the truth.
Angela turned to Lucy and Nolan, curiosity gleaming in her eyes. "What's the score?" she inquired, eager to know the latest update on the ongoing competition.
Lucy shrugged, "I'm not sure. Lost count at 45 to 53."
"It's not that bad in 12 years," he remarked, his eyebrows shot up in surprise.
Angela's lips curved into a mischievous smile. "Try 4 days," she enjoyed the shock that spread across John's face at her revelation.
"What could possibly be the prize?" Lucy's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Tickets to the season end game for Tim and a spa day at Four Seasons for Y/N."
Lucy's jaw dropped, "That's pretty expensive."
"Yeah, they had 10 years to level up the game. Five more and the loser is gonna pay for the wedding," Angela teased, nodding in agreement.
Lucy's mind started to race, a hint of speculation in her voice. "Wait, their wedding?" she paused, her expression thoughtful. "You don't think...?"
Angela rolled her eyes, dismissing Lucy's suggestion with a sarcastic tone. "That they're both stupid and love each other? No," she retorted, making it clear that the reality was far simpler. "They are going together either to the game or spa."
Lucy nodded in understanding, piecing together the situation. "Obviously it's a date but can't decide where to go."
As the day stretches on, the radio comes to life once again, dispatcher's voice cutting through the quiet of the shop.
"Attention all units in the area, we have a report of a stolen vehicle in progress. Last seen heading east on 5th Street. Suspect described as male wearing a red hoodie, driving a black sedan. License plate 7-Mike-India-John-2-5-9."
Nolan's eyes meet yours, both of you immediately springing into action. "You heard the lady," you say, already reaching for the radio to confirm your response. "Let's go, Nolan. We've got a car to find."
With Nolan at the wheel, you scan the streets, eyes darting from one alley to the next, searching for any sign of the stolen car. Tim's shop trails closely behind, the tension palpable as you both race against the clock.
"Two points for the first one to get the suspect in custody," Tim challenges through the radio.
You can't help but fire back, a smirk evident in your tone. "Afraid you're gonna lose the football game, Bradford?"
Suddenly, you spot the stolen car ahead, "There it is!" you exclaim, urgency lacing your voice as you urge Nolan to step on the gas.
"Go, go, go! We've got 'em!" you exclaim, your heart pounding with adrenaline as Nolan accelerates, closing the distance between you and the suspect.
"Take the next left. We can cut them off at the intersection!" you shout, your voice filled with adrenaline-fueled excitement.
Nolan follows your instructions without hesitation, the shop skidding around the corner with precision as you close in on the stolen vehicle. With a burst of speed, you pull up alongside the suspect's car, effectively blocking their path and forcing them to come to a halt.
With adrenaline coursing through your veins, you swiftly exit the shop as Tim parks his car behind the stolen vehicle and sprints towards the suspect, but you're already a step ahead.
You draw your gun and level it at the suspect. "LAPD! Hands where I can see them!"
But then, you turn to Nolan with a knowing smile. "Officer Nolan, you have the honor," you declare, your tone proud as you watch him take charge.
Your rookie approaches the stolen car, his gun held steady as he orders the suspect out of the vehicle. "Get out. Put your hands on the hood."
With Nolan taking control of the situation, you turn your attention back to Tim, who's watching you from a few feet away. As your eyes meet, a sense of satisfaction washes over you, knowing that you've once again proven yourself in front of Tim.
"64, Bradford," you call out, "Start to think you really want that spa day."
Tim chuckles, a grin spreading across his face as he closes the distance between you.
"Don't get too cocky, Bug," he replies, "Day's not over yet."
You hold your head up high, meeting Tim's gaze with a determined look of your own as you watch Nolan take the suspect in custody.
"You're slipping, Bradford," you tease, your voice laced with amusement. "Better step up your game if you want to win those tickets."
Tim chuckles, his eyes sparkling with mischief as he leans in closer. "Careful, Bug." he murmurs, "Wouldn't want to get too comfortable in first place."
You raise an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corners of your lips. "Oh, I don't know," you shoot back, "I'm starting to think you enjoy being one step behind."
Tim's grin widens, his gaze never leaving yours as he leans against the patrol car. "Maybe I just like the view from back here."
You can feel your cheeks flush at his words, a soft laugh escaping your lips as you playfully shove his shoulder. "Smooth, Bradford."
Sergeant Grey lays down the rules at the Shadow Hills Shooting Range and you can feel the tension crackling in the air, mingling with the smell of gunpowder and sweat. Tim's presence beside you only adds to the intensity, his handsome, serious face and confident attitude drawing your attention like a magnet. You silently scold yourself for those thoughts. The earlier banter and Tim's remark about liking the view from behind made you question â again, after a long time of pushing down the feelings that blossomed for him â whether it can be something more between the two of you.
As Officer Dixon explains the rules, your eyes meet Tim's, a silent challenge passing between you. The competition is on, and neither of you is willing to back down.
With your heart pounding in your chest, you take aim at the target, your fingers steady on the trigger. But as you line up your shot, you can't help but steal a glance at Tim, his muscles flexing beneath the fabric of his uniform, his eyes focused and intense.
For a moment, you're distracted by the sight of him, the raw power and masculinity emanating from his every move. But then, you shake off the momentary lapse in focus, reminding yourself of the task at hand.
As the shots ring out, you and Tim fire with precision, each round hitting its mark with deadly accuracy. The tension between you is palpable, a silent battle of wills playing out on the firing range.
And when the last shot is fired and the smoke clears, you can't help but smirk triumphantly at Tim, your cocky grin mirroring his own. Despite the intensity of the competition, there's an undeniable attraction simmering beneath the surfaceâa spark of something more that threatens to ignite with every passing moment.
"Not bad, Bradford," you tease, "But I think I've got you beat this time."
But as Tim catches your gaze, his eyes lingering on you for a moment too long, you quickly compose yourself, the thrill of the competition still coursing through your veins.
"Care to make it interesting?" he murmurs, "20 bucks and 6 points if your Boot makes it out on top?"
Sergeant Grey calls the rookies to the firing line and Tim leans in close, his breath warm against your ear as he whispers teasingly. A shiver runs down your spine at the intimate contact, but you push it aside one more time. You can't resist the challenge, a grin tugging at the corners of your lips as you accept.
"I'll take that bet."
"Me too," Angela chimes in.
With the bet made, the three rookies take their positions and prepare to fire. Officer Dixon gives the signal, and they begin shooting at the targets.
But just as the competition heats up, Nolan's attention wavers, distracted by something in his peripheral vision. He stops shooting, his gaze fixed on whatever has caught his eye, and Grey barks at him to focus.
"Nolan!"
You shake your head in disbelief, frustration bubbling up as you realize your chance of winning the bet slipping away because of your rookie's distraction. Glancing over at Tim, you can't help but feel a pang of disappointment, knowing that this time, luck might not be on your side.
As Grey announces the results, everyone is waiting with bated breath to hear who will come out on top.
"So, finishing first with the most hits, fastest time, and tightest grouping... Officer Chen. Congrats. You are the new Mid-Wilshire champ," Grey declares, the sound of cheers and applause filling the air as Lucy accepts her victory.
Tim smirks as he collects his winnings from you and Angela, a playful glint in his eyes as he leans in closer, his lips dangerously close to yours and you can't help but hold your breath, aware of the eyes watching your every move.
"Looks like we're going to the game," Tim murmurs, his voice low and intimate.
You meet his gaze, a smirk playing at the corners of your lips. "Uh-huh, Bradford. We're tied. Spa still has a chance," you retort, your tone teasing despite the flutter of anticipation in your chest.
Grey's voice cuts through the air, bringing your attention back to the present. "Bradford, Y/L/N, you both tied for second," he announces, his words punctuating the moment with a sense of finality.
You can't help but groan in mock frustration, shooting Tim a playful glare. "I don't know what I hate moreâtying for second with you or losing to a rookie."
As the weekend arrives, you and Tim find yourselves honoring the bet. With the score tied, you decide to indulge in both activitiesâstarting with a relaxing day at the spa and ending with watching the big end-season game at Tim's place.
The scent of lavender filled the air as you and Tim relaxed in plush robes, sipping on refreshing cucumber water and enjoying the soothing ambiance of the spa. With each gentle stroke of the masseuse's hands, you found yourself drifting into a state of bliss, the worries of the week melting away.
After the spa, you and Tim retreated to his apartment, settling in for a cozy evening. Beers in hand, you lounged on the couch, the warmth of Tim's presence beside you sending a pleasant tingle down your spine.
But just as you start to enjoy the easy rhythm of the evening, there's a knock on the door, interrupting the peace.
Tim's expression darkens as he goes to answer it, clearly not pleased by the unexpected visitor. To his surpriseâand evident displeasureâit's Lucy.
But despite his less-than-enthusiastic reaction, you quickly stand up, putting on a welcoming smile as you greet Lucy and invite her in. "Hey, Lucy! Come on in," you say, motioning for her to join you on the couch. "Want a beer?"
Tim's annoyance is palpable as he glances between you and Lucy, clearly not pleased by her unexpected visit. But you ignore his displeasure, focusing instead on making Lucy feel welcome and enjoy the football game.
âHey, did you seeâ?â
Tim turns his head to make a comment about the play, but Lucy suddenly moves beside you, forcing you to shift quickly. Unaware of the short distance between you and Tim, you find yourself turning your head towards him, trying to give him your undivided attention.
Your faces are mere inches apartâlips almost touching, gazes locked in a heated exchange. Time seems to stand still as you linger in the charged silence, the air thick with anticipation and unspoken desire.
In that fleeting moment, every nerve in your body is alive, your heart pounding in your chest as you drown in the intensity of Tim's gaze.
His eyes seem to search yours, as if seeking permission to bridge the small gap that separates you. And for a heartbeat, you entertain the possibilityâallowing yourself to imagine what it would feel like to lean in and capture his lips with your own.
But just as quickly as the thought crosses your mind, reality comes crashing back, and you pull away, retreating into the safety of your own space.
âMore beer?â
Lucy makes her way to fetch more drinks, handing the popcorn to Tim. You seize the opportunity to lean back on the couch as you inch closer to the bowl in Tim's lap.
His hand instinctively wraps around you, pulling you close and your head finds its way to his shoulder, the warmth of his body seeping into your own. Tim's gaze falls upon you, his eyes softening as he takes in your closeness.
For a brief moment, you allow yourself to revel in the intimacy of the gesture, the world falling away as you lose yourself in the warmth of Tim's embrace. But as quickly as the moment began, it shatters, broken by the sound of Tim clearing his throat and shifting away, placing the popcorn bowl between you. creating a physical barrier.
When the final buzzer sounds, signaling the victory of your favorite team, you and Tim shoot up from the couch in excitement. Turning to each other, your eyes meet in a silent exchange, the unspoken tension between you crackling in the air. And then, without a word, Tim pulls you into his arms, the heat of his body searing against your own as you melt into his embrace.
In that moment, nothing else mattersânot the game, not the world outsideâonly the two of you, wrapped up in each other's arms. For a split second, you allow yourself to surrender to the intoxicating rush of desire, the walls around your heart crumbling in the face of the overwhelming connection between you.
But as quickly as it began, the moment passes, and you find yourselves pulling away, the weight of your unspoken feelings hanging heavy in the air.
Lucy watched with growing frustration, unable to bear witness to your dance of denial any longer. With a determined glint in her eye, she finally snaps, her frustration boiling over into a burst of blunt honesty.
"Okay, I'm sick of this," she begins, "You're so blind and stubborn."
You and Tim both turn to her with confusion, unsure of what she's getting at. But before either of you can respond, Lucy cuts through the tension.
"Just kiss already, you stupid," she exclaims, her frustration bubbling over into exasperation.
And in that moment, something shifts. Tim's resolve crumbles, his feelings finally breaking free from the confines of his heart. Without hesitation, he leans in and captures your lips in a searing kiss.
It's everything you've ever imaginedâand more. His lips are warm and soft against yours, fitting perfectly as if they were always meant to be there. Every touch, every caress sends sparks flying, igniting a firestorm of passion that threatens to consume you both.
You pull away quickly when you realized the kiss was evolving into something that shouldn't be happening in front of Lucy. With a smirk playing at the corners of your lips, you tease Tim.
"Was about time, Bradford," you quip, "Took you more than a decade to kiss me."
Tim, caught off guard by your boldness, can only manage a sheepish grin in response.
"Didn't know you wanted me to do that," he admits, his eyebrows rising with surprise.
"Yes! Mom and dad are finally together," she cheers, her eyes shining with excitement and a proud smile spreading across her face as she revels in the success of her matchmaking efforts.
But Tim's grumpiness returned in an instant as he realizes Lucy was watching their intimate moment.
"Chen, get out," he grumbles as he gestured toward the door.
Undeterred, Lucy flashes a teasing smile at both of you before opening the front door of Tim's house. "Yes, sir," she teases, her playful tone undercutting the seriousness of Tim's command. Before disappearing behind the closed door, she offers one last remark.
"Be safe," Lucy calls out.
"Fifty pushups before every call tomorrow!" Tim declares, his attempt to regain control of the situation falling flat in the wake of Lucy's teasing.
With a pleading look, Lucy turns to you, her eyes silently begging for your intervention. "Mom?"
You meet her gaze with a reassuring smile, knowing that you can't save her from Tim's grumpiness but offering a comforting presence nonetheless. "Good night, Lucy," you say gently.
