Looks like big problems The other day, a rather curious event happened on the market quite quietly. Nothing has introduced the Nothing Chats application , which could be called just another instant messenger, but the point is that this application actually allows Android owners to exchange messages with iPhone owners via iMessage. And a few days later, this application was removed from the Google Store. [caption id="attachment_83323" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Android[/caption] Nothing initially stated that this was done due to the discovery of several bugs that simply needed to be fixed. However, it seems that the real reason is something else, and it is worse. Let us remind you that the interaction between the Android messenger and iMessage occurs on a third party. She is represented by the Sunbird company, which provides its platform through which the magic happens. However, it turned out that in terms of data security, this platform is apparently much worse than Sunbird itself stated. In particular, there is no end-to-end encryption. iMessage for Android only lasted a few days. The Sunbird platform, and therefore the Nothing Chats app, requires a new user of the app to submit their Apple ID credentials to set up syncing. This data is then authenticated on your behalf using a virtual machine running MacOS. The main problem is that the request containing user credentials occurs over an unencrypted channel (HTTP). [caption id="attachment_83324" align="alignnone" width="670"] Android[/caption] The situation as a whole is more complex and is fully described on the Text.Blog website, where several specialists explain how they discovered the problem and what it is. Among other things, they show that they can obtain users’ personal data. Thus, in fact, Nothing may not be to blame for the situation, but whether the application will now return to the Google Store is an open question.

Such models were popular about 20 years ago, but they were not smartphones The Japanese company P-UP World presented a rather interesting smartphone – Mode 1 Retro II. This model is made like a classic “clamshell” from the 2000s - there is even a button block, but only Mode 1 Retro II is a full-fledged smartphone, as it runs Android 13. [caption id="attachment_68792" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Android 13[/caption] The clamshell has a 3.5-inch screen with an impressive resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels for such a diagonal. A push-button clamshell Mode 1 Retro II with Android 13 and a 48-megapixel camera is presented [caption id="attachment_68793" align="aligncenter" width="480"] Android 13[/caption] The hardware platform is based on SoC MediaTek Helio G85, the volumes of RAM and flash memory are 4 and 64 GB. The front camera is 13 megapixels, and the main one has a 48-megapixel sensor. The battery capacity is 2500 mAh, and it is charged via the USB-C port. The price of the new product is quite reasonable - $200.

So that they are not disappointed in the performance of the SoC Tensor G3 Google has taken a rather unexpected step to ensure that users of the latest Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are not disappointed in the performance of their smartphones: the company has simply banned the installation of popular benchmarks like Geekbench and 3DMark on its new flagships. [caption id="attachment_68767" align="aligncenter" width="771"] Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro[/caption] The ban is not absolute, since benchmarks cannot be downloaded only from Google Play, but you can use a third-party marketplace or install them via an APK file. However, the very fact of restricting the freedom of buyers of expensive smartphones does not speak in favor of Google: it is not for the manufacturer to decide what the user installs on his smartphone. The company has banned Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users from installing popular benchmarks Google is proud of the Tensor G3 SoC and calls it its most powerful platform. But in terms of pure performance, it is inferior to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, not to mention the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 looming on the horizon. In reality, the overall performance of the Tensor G3 is approximately at the level of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. To be convinced of this, you don’t even need to install benchmarks – the Internet already has detailed independent tests and comparisons of Google’s new products with other models in all popular benchmarks. [caption id="attachment_68766" align="aligncenter" width="650"] Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro[/caption] When talking about the "power" of its SoC, Google focuses on accelerating AI tasks, while Geekbench measures overall performance and 3DMark focuses on measuring graphics performance. In both cases, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have nothing to brag about.

But soon there will be more smartphones with Samsung E7 screens Yesterday we wrote that Google’s newest flagships – Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 – topped the DxOMark “screen” rating. And today it became clear why the new products performed so well in tests: it turned out that Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 became the world’s first smartphones with the latest Samsung E7 panel. Data about this is contained in the source code of the Google Pixel software. [caption id="attachment_68744" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8[/caption] News October 14, 2023 Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 are the world's first smartphones to feature Samsung's latest OLED panel The current generation of flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro are equipped with Samsung E6 OLED screens, and the new generation of devices will switch to E7 panels - the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This will happen quite soon (the premiere of the Xiaomi 14 line is expected on October 27 ), and it’s not a fact that after the release of the new flagships, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 will continue to lead in the DxOMark “screen” rating.

Unisoc partners just have to “finish” their firmware Unisoc platforms - simple and low-power - are used in budget smartphones that cannot boast of outstanding characteristics. Until recently, the transition to a new version of Android for these devices was something very rare. But now everything has changed. [caption id="attachment_64541" align="alignnone" width="780"] Android 14[/caption] The company has provided support for Android 14 on all its smartphone platforms with 5G and LTE modems Unisoc began to work closely with Google - and here is the first result: the company immediately provided support for Android 14 on all its smartphone platforms with 5G and LTE modems. We are talking about 9 single-chip systems: T820, T770, T760, T750, T619, T616, T612, T606 and SC9863A. Unisoc has made it easier for OEMs and ODMs to update to the latest version of Android, significantly reducing overall costs and speeding up the update time. Based on the software update package, Unisoc customers only need to modify the top layer of software (essentially, their firmware) in order to complete the transition to Android 14. As part of the collaboration with Google, starting with Android 13, all Unisoc mobile platforms support four Android updates. Security updates for them will also be released over four years. What Unisoc has done, even Samsung has not done yet: yes, the Koreans have been updating their flagships and mid-level models for a long time, but budget devices are updated mostly only for two years. For example, the Samsung Galaxy M11 came out with Android 10 and received Android 12. You can count on the same two years of updates when purchasing Redmi.

Initially only on Pixel Yesterday Google released the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, and along with the new smartphones, the public version of Android 14 was released, which has many features, including a new artificial intelligence wallpaper generator. The new AI-powered wallpaper feature makes it easy to create a new background on your Pixel device using our proprietary text-to-image model. You choose a category, such as "classical art," and then play with the text description to display different results. According to The Verge, you can select the Dreamscape category, then describe the structure, material, and color - and end up with something like "Indigo Plant House", which produces several images of greenery-covered buildings with a front door. [caption id="attachment_63735" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Android 14[/caption] Android 14 introduces an AI wallpaper generator Google says generative AI wallpapers will initially appear on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, so most won't be able to use them at launch. However, the wording suggests that availability will expand in the future. Generative AI wallpapers are just one of many new features in Android 14, along with lock screen customizations that let you choose different fonts and colors, situational widgets like a prominent weather widget during a thunderstorm, and even a monochrome theme. [caption id="attachment_63736" align="aligncenter" width="238"] Android 14[/caption] Android 14 is rolling out to supported Pixel devices now and will arrive on select devices from Samsung, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi later this year.

It will probably be released in May 2024 The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones have not yet been presented, but photos of the Pixel 8a have already appeared on the Internet, which, will hit the market only at the end of spring. As you can see, the design of the Pixel 8a matches what we saw in the renders of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. At the same time, the younger device is interesting because its corners are very rounded by modern standards. This is the Pixel 8a and it looks very rounded. You can see that the camera will remain dual, and the frame around the screen will still be quite wide. However, this is far from a flagship smartphone. As for the parameters, so far only the SoC Tensor G3 is known, which will also be available on the older Pixels of the new generation. At the same time, given the characteristics of the Pixel 7a, you can expect from the new generation at least a 90 Hz AMOLED screen and a battery with a capacity of at least 4300 mAh. Whether the compact dimensions will remain is unclear. The photos were shared by insider Abhishek Yadav, who previously reported exact data about the Xiaomi Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro, and Mi 10T Lite smartphones even before their announcement.

Mentions of Ultra HDR found in the latest version of the application Back in May, Google introduced the new Ultra HDR format with the release of the second beta version of the Android 14 operating system for developers. The new Ultra HDR format provides support for 10-bit HDR images that will be fully compatible with standard JPEG images. The first application to support the new Google Ultra HDR format will be the popular gallery with a built-in Google Photos photo editor. In version 6.51.0.561138754, several lines were found indicating support for Ultra HDR. Other third-party apps will also be able to take advantage of this feature in Android 14. Google Photos is gearing up for Ultra HDR in Android 14 [caption id="attachment_51577" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Android 14[/caption] This feature will allow you to take full advantage of the modern display and camera on your smartphone and show photos in excellent quality while maintaining the JPEG format. You'll also be able to link these images to Google Photos, and they'll open on non-HDR screens, with lower quality, of course. Colors and contrast will be significantly better when displayed on an HDR-capable panel.

New firmware is spreading over the air Almost simultaneously with yesterday’s release of the final version of Android 14, Xiaomi released a beta version of MIUI 14 firmware based on Android 14 for its flagships Xiaomi 12T, Xiaomi 13, and Xiaomi 13 Pro. [caption id="attachment_63759" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Android 14[/caption] The global beta version of Android 14 has been released for Xiaomi 12T, Xiaomi 13, and Xiaomi 13 Pro The software is distributed over the air in many countries (including Europe) and is available to those who take part in the company's beta testing program. Since the new firmware is not built on the final version of Android 14, it may contain various kinds of bugs and shortcomings - this should be kept in mind during installation.
