Trying to get a picture on your phone?

Here are the settings I used, Because the standard sky may be to faint to make out all the colours clearly but with a little bit of extra exposure and camera time you can!

I would be happy to explain why in terms of space reasons but I'll answer questions in the morning as its very late rn.

So, (Android phone) - Sorry apple users i dont know the direct steps but i imagine they are similar

Go into your camera and click More, and then click the Pro camera (the night mode works but the pro camera comes out more clear)

From there you'll have a few setting on the bottom you need to change the ones we are changing are in yellow!

ISO - Is how sentisitive the camera is to light, I cranked this all the way up to my phones max settings (3200)

Speed - Shutter speed, is how long you have the shutter open for, basically how long the light can get into the camera for. (set yours to something your comfterable with I used 4 seconds for most of mine.) Cause i have really shaky hands.

Then, point at a region of the sky, Youll be surprised at how different it is to your eye vs the camera, but you'll know it's above you because there's some lines which sit across the sky that look different to clouds.

If your not sure, test a region with a picture, you can move on to a different region if you don't get anything!

Take the picture and hold your phone steady until the timer is up and then hopefully you'll have some pretty pictures too!

Here is a basic how to guide for cameras and phones to capture the auroras.

I've been receiving so many comments on how to capture them on camera, and as a professional photographer, I figured I would share some tricks to help most people capture the lights (I've included multiple images of the Auroras I've captured). A tripod is recommended for everything below. These settings are subject to chance based on conditions so adjust as needed.

CAMERAS:

- Find and select manual mode on your camera

- Shutter speed: Around 10 seconds is best if the auroras are far away and not moving fast. If the auroras are directly overhead and moving fast, 2 - 4 seconds is best.

- F stop: As low as it possibly goes for the lens that you are using. For example, my primary aurora lens goes down to F 2.8, and that's what I keep it at.

- ISO: This will depend on the quality of your camera. My ISO is normally between 800 - 1600 but you might have go higher if your images are darker. Be aware that the higher your ISO is, the "grainier" your picture will look.

- RAW vs JPEG. I always use RAW if you are doing any real editing. JPEG is fine for those who don't plan on doing much to the photo.

- Turn off autofocus. Manually focus your lens to just below the crosshairs of infinity. This will give you better control to get sharp images.

- Unless you have a remote shutter, turn on a 2 second timer to avoid any camera shake.

That is the basic starting point for your cameras. From there, you can adjust the settings to get your images perfect.

IPHONE SETTINGS:

- Use Night mode (iPhone 11 and later) or manual mode (third-party apps).

- Set exposure: 3-10 seconds

- ISO: Start between 400 - 600 and adjust as needed

- Turn off flash

- Focus: Manual or Infinity

- Use a 3-second timer to avoid any camera shake

- Turn on RAW Max if it is available on your phone to get the best quality

ANDROID SETTINGS:

- Use Pro/Manual/Night mode

- Set exposure: 3 - 10 seconds.

- ISO: Start between 400 - 600 and adjust as needed

- Turn off flash

What is NFC, How is it used, Whic Phones have it?

NFC (Near-field communication)

NFC  (in English: Near Field Communication) is a  wireless communication technology. As stated in its name, it allows two-way, wireless and close-range communication between two devices that comply with NFC standards. It is translated as Near Field Communication as the Turkish equivalent of NFC  .

While NFC technology provides wireless communication on two standard-compliant devices, it is free of charge.

NFC devices can function as electronic cards or IDs. NFC is also used for contactless payment systems. NFC can also be used to transfer small-sized data  (files) .

How to turn on NFC feature on phones?

NFC feature is available on mobile devices with Android or iOS operating systems . A new model of mobile device is likely to have this technology. Not all mobile devices support NFC technology.

To check and activate the NFC feature for Android devices ;

Go to Settings,

“NFC” is written in the search section at the top  and the results are checked.

If the relevant NFC setting is not found by searching,  the “Connection Settings” section should be checked. The NFC feature of the device can be activated by turning the relevant setting on.

On iOS devices, the NFC feature  is often  automatically activated and turned off. For example, when trying to make a contactless payment with an iPhone device, NFC activates and turns off automatically after the transaction.

For “Apple Wallet” applications on iOS devices,  compatible  credit and debit cards can be added and contactless payments can be made from a mobile device with the NFC feature.

NFC vs Bluetooth

NFC and  Bluetooth are two girly-range communication technologies found in mobile devices, smartwatches or tablets.

NFC transfers data slower than Bluetooth  .

It doesn’t need two devices already paired like Bluetooth.

NFC’s maximum data transfer rate is  424 kbit/s, while Bluetooth  operates at 2.1 Mbit/s .

The short maximum operating distance of NFC ensures safe use in crowded areas.

NFC  is compatible with RFID (13.56 MHz ISO/IEC 18000-3)  infrastructure. This protocol has low power consumption similar to the low power technology of Bluetooth V4.0 technology  .

What are NFC supported devices?

In 2011, more than 40 devices with Android operating system were released with NFC capability. In addition, BlackBerry introduced the NFC feature with BlackBerry Tag on OS 7.0 and above devices.

As of 2014, almost all mobile devices with Android and iOS operating systems have NFC support.

NFC technology was developed using Radio Frequency Identification  (RFID) in partnership with Sony and Philips brands at the end of 2002  , and was accepted as a standard by ISO/IEC in late 2003.

In 2004,  the NFC Forum was published by Nokia, Philips and Sony for the development and dissemination of NFC technology. Samsung Galaxy Prime Core Review : A Decent Entry-Level Smartphone

Samsung Galaxy Prime Core comes as one of the basic smartphones to connect to Google services like Google Drive, Maps, and Google Now. There is a simple gray design in the phone with the boring screen which tries hard to read in broad daylight and the camera is outdated.

But the price makes it one of the lowest and Verizon’s signal works faster. It costs only $168 when you buy it without a contract and full retail. It costs $30 with a 2-year contract and $7 monthly on the Verizon Edge plan for 24 months.

At the same time, MetroPCS offers Core Prime for $130 with no contract. For a starter device, it is absolutely fine. But you still need to shop around for a better price.

Design

·         800x480p resolution, 4.5” screen

·         130 grams

·         Dimensions – 131.3×68.4×8.8 mm

The device features a 4.5-inch display to keep it more compact than larger 6-inch displays but the meager 800x480p resolution is outdated. The screen looks grayish and more reflective indoors than nearby screens and videos, web pages, and images look pixilated and a bit dim.

Onscreen images wash out and texts are even harder to read under the rays when going outdoors. The device also heats up, especially in warm summer days.

Interface

The Galaxy Core Prime comes loaded with Android 4.4.4 KitKat (not Android 5.1 Lollipop). It will also skip Lollipop. Samsung has added its TouchWiz UI over Android. Samsung also adds a few added settings and apps like easy mode for simple home screen layout and Power Saving Mode.

Big Red loads over 20 carrier apps as well as partner apps on the Verizon model. It will also have Amazon apps, several Verizon apps to manage account, some demo games, NFL Mobile, and more.

Camera

·         2MP selfie camera

·         5MP rear shooter

·         720p video recorder

The camera app features settings like Panorama, Auto, Beauty Face, Continuous Shot, Best Photo, and Sports modes. It also has a Settings menu to open items like ISO, Photo Resolution, white balance, geotagging, and gridlines, etc.

By default, the rear camera is set to 3.9MP out of the box, instead of 5MP. For 3.9MP, it changes the 3:5 aspect ratio and 4:3 for max resolution. The camera is decent enough to capture bright outdoor photos which contrast with low-res images in low light.

Flash generates bright light to make everything quite clearer and brighter. Like all the pictures, selfies are the trade-off. There is nothing you can do with the 2MP front camera unless taking grainy self-portraits, even with Beauty mode on. Outdoor selfies look brighter but indoor snaps are grayish.

The 720p video recording is good but not impressive. Audio pickup is weak for others but you will get your voice clearer. You need to look for well-lit, outdoor scenes which don’t grasp a lot of noise.

Hardware

With lower-powered CPU, you can’t do anything much with Galaxy Core Prime. And 1.2GHz Snapdragon chipset is very common in this range. But navigating the phone is quite responsive while scrolling through menus and screens. Music and videos stream quite quickly thanks to Verizon’s fast network.

The slower processor and poor resolution makes this device worst for gaming. It falls far behind LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 in processing graphics. But it does play some popular titles and casual games fine.

Battery

According to Samsung, the 2000mAh battery in Prime Core can last around 10 hours of Talktime on 3G, around 9 hours of video playback and 11 hours of Wi-Fi time. But in the real world, it could last shorter or longer, according to your usage.

Live maps and video streaming uses data and resources quite faster than sending messages. All in all, the device should last at least 8 hours without getting drained.

Connectivity

·         Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n

·         4G enabled

The Speedtest.net measured significantly high speed which hovered around whopping 30Mbps to 40Mbps for downloads while 20Mbps uplink. There were some dips but coverage variations are common. In real world tests, pages load really fast with LTE.

But Verizon’s network was not too strong to download large files quickly. Music and videos were streamed without any hiccups.

Wi-Fi supports 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz networks. So, downloads and uploads may not be as fast as possible with high-end devices. Movies and other large files will take even longer for downloading, as per the size.

Is it worth to buy this entry-level Android device?

The Galaxy Prime Core is just a simple smartphone that can be found anywhere. If you are looking for a low-budget smartphone ($130 on MetroPCS and $168 with Verizon plan), Samsung Galaxy Prime Core is definitely for you.

For MetroPCS users, it is one of the best choices in this range. But if you are a Verizon user, it is better to spend a few dollars more to choose a better phone.

When it comes to competition, LG Lucid 3 comes at $200 but shares most of the specs in Core Prime with a 4.7-inch screen, 2440mAh battery and 960x540p resolution, which is quite better. It also features 1080p full HD video and in-built wireless charging.

The only downside here is 0.3MP camera, vs. 2MP camera in Core Prime. For around $32 more, you can also look for Microsoft Lumia 735 with Verizon. But if you download plenty of apps and use Google services, don’t go with Windows Phone. If you want to keep things simple, the Galaxy Prime Core is a good buy.
