Bike computer projekt, telefon geekek help

Gavin (grinning and very pronounded): "If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish."
Gavin (hastily again): "Ifyoudecidetoanswerquestionsnowwithoutalawyerpresent, youhavetherighttostopansweringatanytime. DoyouunderstandeachoftheserightsIhaveexplainedtoyou?”
Geoffrey: "Yes, “officer”.”
Gavin: “Havingtheserightsinmind,doyouwishtotalktousnow?”
Geoffry: "Pfft.”
Carter: "Do you ever breath, human?"
Gavin: "Oh, yeah! Out of relief, soon as this bastard's secured in the car!"
Tumblr media
Carter: "Are you mad that I made a headstart in solving this case, bro?"
Gavin: "Nah. It wasn’t one of mine in the first place.”
Carter: "Seeing that you are a dumpster kid like ourselves, could you maybe lend us a hand here? We're looking for a dead android, but no such luck so far."
Gavin: "Dumpster kid, ey? What gave you that idea?"
Carter: "Dr. Landgraab called you a street rat."
Gavin: "I... Look, "bro", Connor never knew the streets, let alone had to spend a night at a landfill. He just waltzed in, with his shiny apps, like some freshly minted Criminal Sciences major, thinking he knows everything better..."
Tumblr media
Carter: "...and when he was done ranting about Connor, the detective asked what we needed a dead android for. I told him that we wanted to grind the corpse down for the antidote. That's when the detective laughed and said "Just buy a spare part in any CyberLife store"!"
Sophie: "You mean we dug through the landfill for two days in vain? All we ever needed to do was to buy something like a replacement hand for RT600?"
Carter: "Pretty much, yes. A single finger should suffice, actually."
Sophie: "You got your bike, Carter? Then let's drive to Detroit immediatey!"
Dave: "Can you two do that without me? I'm not done studying the mutated tree - the landfill is so useful for earning my university credits!"
Reminder that Gavin’s parents (however briefly) worked for the Villareal mob, the Landgraabs’ rivals.

They do still make Motorolas, I'm sending this off one of their recent models haha :') your HCs about him are like spot on too! Curious what you think about Obi-Wan and/or Padmé, to complete the trio?
Ooooh thank you! Also yeah I THOUGHT they still made the Motorola ones I know my friend has one
So, character prompts from this post!
What does your blorbo's phone/laptop/car/backpack look like?
OBI WAN
Phone:
He’s got a Samsung Galaxy or a Google Pixel because his old iPhone died and Anakin convinced him not to get a new one, but he still wants a recognizable name brand smartphone because he’s not super techy and he knows that means they’ll work and won’t be overly complicated. It’s got one small line of a crack in the screen protector, he has no clue where it came from and is rather disgruntled because it’s a fairly new phone and protector, but he figures it’s something he can let be until it becomes a bigger problem.
He’s got one of those old man plain brown leather cases that has a built in wallet area where you can put credit cards and ids and stuff—but he doesn’t, thinks it’ll be easier to lose everything at once that way and keeps all that in his regular wallet. Ahsoka and Anakin regularly ask him what even the point of the wallet case is, but like hell is he admitting to being an aesthetic hoe
Lockscreen is a long battle between a landscape photo of some aesthetic city or wilderness he’s traveled to, and blurry selfies of Anakin pulling the most hideous expressions he can because Anakin knows his password and keeps breaking into his phone to set his lockscreen to them just to watch Obi Wan’s fucking done expression when he checks his phone and sees it
Homescreen is either another aesthetic photo or a screenshot of a literary quote he likes
All his apps are sitting in the standard way the phone organizes them, he doesn’t do any fiddling, but he also doesn’t have many apps to begin with
Also I need to point out that Obes is a godless heathen who keeps his ringer ON. His text and phone tones are also the standard ones that come with the phone, Anakin hasn’t dared try and change them to something jokey because he knows Obi Wan will get a special kind of revenge for embarrassing him in public and he’s waiting for the perfect opportunity to do it since he can only do it once
Laptop:
Obi Wan still has an ancient first or second generation MacBook Air and he is kinda cranky with Anakin for convincing him to change his phone to an android because now it won’t connect in any way with his laptop and he is absolutely not shelling out for a new one when this one still looks fine
He keeps a special glasses wipe for the screen because he fucking hates not being able to see shit when there’s dust and gunk all over it. Drives him nuts that the laptop just keeps accumulating it
The laptop background is an artsy map of whatever city he’s living in, but it’s blurry and pixelated because he got it off Google images and it wasn’t an HD version. It’s the same background as his LinkedIn profile.
He doesn’t have an outside case for the laptop, but he does have a carrying case for it that he can zip and unzip it out of whenever he’s transporting it places. It is plain black and squishy.
Car:
HoohooHOO :)
Okay so Obi Wan very much likes public transportation and is an avid champion of the necessity for buses and trains
He also rides a bicycle a lot!
But
Obi Wan’s got a motorcycle.
It is a nice one (I can’t say more than that cuz I also know jackshit about bikes lmao)
It’s shiny and it’s either red or black and when he needs to drive somewhere and can’t take public transport, that’s what he uses
He of course always wears a full helmet and gloves and impact jacket.
It used to be Qui Gon’s but he got injured and doesn’t ride anymore so Obi Wan took it. It’s nice, he likes it, it’s less gas and it’s not hard to ride.
He has a side car for if he’s transporting more than one person or groceries or anything.
Anakin is in love with it and firmly believes Obi Wan doesn’t deserve it and laments on the REGULAR that Obi Wan only lets him clean it/give it tune ups and won’t let him take it apart or try and make it better
Obi Wan genuinely does not get how hot he is on the bike xD
Backpack:
Obi Wan has one of those leather over the side shoulder satchels that’s all the dark academia rage lol
Regularly sticks too much shit in it, it’s surprisingly messy for a guy like him but that’s because it’s full of books his laptop extra snacks a hairbrush a spare jacket a first aid kit literally everything packed in there Just In Case
It’s also Really Fucking Heavy because of that and he’s always surprising people by handing it to them and they’re just like oof *drops from the weight*
The leather’s a little worn and cracked because he keeps so much in it, but it’s in fairly good shape because he splurged for a pricier one
I’m gonna do Padmé’s in a separate post since this is getting long!

(For Alexa)
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” you yelled out as you accidentally hit your thumb with a hammer while you were repairing your retro spaceship in the garage.
While you sucked on your thumb to soothe the pain as you returned to your desk, opening up your online dating profile while you also whipped out your phone and opened up the dating app.
No matches.
Figures. Not only was business non-existent, but your dating life is also non-existent. At least in Tron City. If you went back home, you’d probably be drowning in matches and dates. But you knew that you wouldn’t be happy.
Most humans would call you a species traitor or a deviant for your fascination with androids and their culture. Sure, humanity and androids have been locked in a Cold War after being in conflict for so long, but you weren’t prejudiced against androids. Hell, you even wanted to date them.
But you couldn’t say the same for the other side. And who could blame them?
As you were scrolling endlessly through the dating app, one profile caught your eye. Oh, she’s very cute, you thought as you scrolled through her bio and looked through her pics. Too bad she won’t like me though, you sadly thought. But it wouldn’t hurt to screenshot her photos whenever you needed a release though, right? So after you screenshot her photos and were about to swipe left, the sound of the door opened.
Quickly you got up from your desk and walked to the front counter to greet them, laying your phone on top. “Hello, how can I help you today?”
The woman smiled at you before approaching you. But as you looked at her, you couldn’t help but sense this familiarity about her. But as she approached, she stopped, tilting her head as she looked down curiously before mischievously meeting your eyes again and biting her lip.
Confused, you looked down to see where she’d been staring. And lo and behold, your phone was still on. And the dating app was open—
SHITTHEDATINGAPPWASOPEN. You panicked as you glanced at the profile, you realized why the woman in front of you was acting so flirty and seductively all of a sudden.
She was the woman in the profile. And you had just screenshot her photos.
Your mouth opened in shock, you didn’t know if the woman was mad and angry at you. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t know—”
“Shhh,” she brought her finger to your lips to shut you up, which you quickly did. “Good boy,” she said, and you swear that her words went down through your spine. “Well, you help me out today by swiping right on my profile and telling me your name so I can match with you, cutie.”
What the fuck is all you could think as you swiped right on her profile before closing your phone. “Chris. My name’s Chris.”
Alexa chuckled at your face, you looked so shocked and flustered it made her smile “humans cheeks get so red” she giggled rubbing your cheek with her finger “Hello chris, I can see business is” she paused to look around “busy” she teased looking around your shop. Alexa had hears about your shop, well every android has which is not good. She’s been told your business is owned by a human which is why many have stayed away, but Alexa didn’t care. Also your shop was the cheapest one in town with parts she needed “well, I came for some parts for my bike but it seems I got a date as well” she smirks biting her bottom lip “what do you say?” she asked

🌱 My App Defaults
Extremely late to the party, I finally got around to write about my app defaults. A bunch of these are paid apps I probably wouldn’t prioritise if I didn’t already subscribe to Setapp 🖇️ – so keep that in mind. I’ll also give alternatives places where I remember some.
Click here to see the hardware I use this software on!
Lastly, I know that these posts are “supposed” to be simple lists – but I thought I’d add a bit more info.
Systems and productivity
📓 Notes, tasks, and writing
I want to get this one out-of-the-way first, as it’s the most complicated one. (The other entries are much shorter!)
All my notes, tasks, and writing is in a bunch of Markdown files held within NotePlan. But these are also local files I can access with other apps, write to with automation, etc.1
I prefer to do as much as possible with Paper, which is a super slick Markdown editor. So I use this for writing of blog posts, note-taking, sticky notes, as the default app for random .md files, etc.
I use Ulysses to edit and publish blog posts to Micro.blog.
And occasionally, I’ll use TaskPaper to manage more complicated projects – but as mentioned, all of these apps points at the same NotePlan files!
Tumblr media
This is from NotePlan, and I’ve added one extra feature to every task down the list – and as everything is plain-text, I can add it from wherever.
Farta means “out-and-about” in Norwegian, and is a tag list I use for things I can do if I’m driving around.
If I add a time, and the task is in a daily note, I’ll get a reminder notification at that time.
I can add a date at the end, to move it to a daily note (to give me the notification if I’m not in a daily note, or to schedule it for another day).
You can also create time blocks, by adding an end-time.
I also really, really like Bike Outliner – but I struggle getting it to fit into my workflow.
📖 Journaling
I absolutely fall into this cliché: I wish I journal more than I do. But when I do, I do it in Everlog. I like that it’s Markdown and linkable.
📅 Calendar
I use BusyCal. It’s way cheaper than Fantastical (and included in Setapp), while being almost as good. (There are some things I prefer in BusyCal, as well, actually.) I think this is a nice sweet point if you want something a bit more powerful than Calendar.app, but don’t want to pay Fantastical money.
🌦️ Weather app
Here’s a great tip (that probably mostly Norwegians know about): Here in Norway, we have a publicly funded weather service, called Yr (which means drizzle). It’s good, completely free (and without ads), and has good apps for both Android and iOS. And guess what: It’s available in English as well!
Pronunciation guide: The y is a monophthong, that sounds like the ui sound in “build”.
🛒 Shopping list
My wife and I use Bring, which is a great little uni-tasker!
📮 Mail server
I host through Fastmail 🖇️. I go into why here.
📨 Mail client
I sincerely hope Mimestream gets to building JMAP support because I don’t like any of the mail client options out there… I think I prefer Spark – however my wife is on my Power User Setapp account, so only one of us can use Spark through that. So I let her have it, and just use Mail.app. It’s aggressively “fine” – but I at least like it better than the Fastmail client.
💬 Chat app
The one I use the most, and prefer, is Telegram. I don’t use their more “social media like” features at all, so it’s annoying that these have a tendency of getting them in trouble (for good reasons!). Because as a simple chat app, it’s terrific. It’s very much like if iMessage was better and cross-platform!2
However, I also pay close attention to Signal and Matrix, as I have to evaluate when Telegram does enough things I disagree with that I “have to” switch. (I would rather not switch to one of the more “monopolistic” options.)
🌐 Browser
As I mentioned in this post, I don’t think it’s necessary to use the same browser on desktop and mobile. Sadly, Apple is blocking third-party browsers from having extensions on iOS/iPadOS, so I use Safari on iPad. On iPhone, I switch between Safari and Quiche Browser, which has enough nice things built in to be a good experience.
On the desktop, I think Arc is my favourite browser. But I try to avoid using Chromium/Blink, and I don’t love their direction – so I don’t use it. I’ve used Firefox – and I don’t mind it if I spend some time adjusting it. I’m very interested in how the vertical tab update turns out! However, the two I’ve used the most lately are Zen and SigmaOS.
The latter is a slick WebKit browser with many similar ideas to Arc, and a couple of their own.
The former is a really promising Firefox fork, which is pretty pleasant out-of-the-box, with a good design and built in vertical tabs. But a really cool idea, is a “modification market” of sorts, where you can install little adjustments made by others. In addition to Firefox’s general customisability, you can really make it your own!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🔎 Search Engine
I use, and love, Kagi Search. I wrote more about it here! They also make a WebKit browser, called Orion – but it’s not for me. However, Kagi is still available in every other browser, through an extension.3
🔐 Password management
Another quote from this post:
I use 1Password for passwords (and much more). I like it – but here is the fact that it’s cross-platform significant. The reason is that I have my family members on the plan, and I would rather not force them onto specific devices. For a free alternative, I’d go for something like Bitwarden over the built-in OS or browser features.
I also use it to store things like secure notes, SSL, a scan of my passport, company number, etc.
🔖 Bookmarks
To quite myself, from this post:
For bookmarks, I use Anybox, and I really like it! I love that it’s not a read-later app. It’s specifically built for getting anything in and out of a box – and not for consuming it in-app. Goodlinks and Raindrop are other alternatives.
📶 RSS backend
To make it easy to move between clients (and for some newsletter features), my RSS feeds are in Feedbin.
📰 RSS reader
These are the reasons I use Lire: It’s cheap, feels and looks pretty good, can cache truncated feeds, and display sites (on a site-by-site basis) in inline browser. The latter is so that I can browse blogs on their native websites, while getting new articles in my feed.
☁️ Cloud File Storage
I use, and quite enjoy, Dropbox. I like that it’s a larger player while not being one of the absolute giants. It’s a bit more neutral than something from Apple, Google, or Microsoft.
🌅 Photo storage and management
I do store my photos in Photos.app, though – and use iCloud for the backups. I intend to get a Mac Mini, though – to set up some extra backup. I’ve tried Photomator a bit, and I really like it! If I worked a bit more with photos (which I might in the future), I think I’d pay for that.
📷 Camera app
I just use Camera.app. But in a year or two I intend to upgrade my iPhone 13 Mini, and then perhaps to a Pro phone (for the better cameras). At that time, or maybe before, I think I’ll look into things like Halide or Obscura!
⏲️ Time tracking
I hear everyone mentioning Timery – but I use TimeMator. It’s included in Setapp as well, so “free”, and I like that it doesn’t need another backend. (Timery uses Toggl.) It has slick apps for Mac, iPad and iPhone, and also supports automatic tracking (which I don’t use).
Tools and utilities
🤖 Automation and settings
Much of the lube in my workflows comes from the trifecta of BetterTouchTool, Karabiner-Elements and Keyboard Maestro.
🔩 Text Editor
For coding, I use Nova. It’s a Mac-assed Mac app, and it offers some features that make life easier for a noob like me.4 I’ve also used, and recommend, Zed: It’s even faster than Nova (which is also fast), but a bit more bare-bones and harder to get into. And it’s free, and also available for Linux (and soon Windows)!
📟 Terminal
Speaking of noob friendly tools, I really like the terminal app Warp 🖇️. It looks slick, has a bunch of things that make it behave more like other apps (for instance, in how you select text), and gives a little help here and there. I’ve also used, and like, iTerm.
🧮 Calculator
For good reason, PCalc gets a lot of love. But I don’t think any of its modes reaches my favourite,SC-323PU. I just love the great overview you get! And I’m a maths teacher, so you can trust me.
Tumblr media
Screenshot of one of the modes in SC-323PU. (Catchy name, I know!)
🖼️ Screenshots
On Mac, I use the excellent CleanShot X. On iOS/iPadOS, I use a combination of Annotable and Shareshot. The former is a better version of the built-in Annotate tools. The latter is a way to frame screenshots with devices, like the one of the calculator. It’s a bit expensive for what it is, so I would recommend getting the Apple Frames shortcut. But every so often, when I have a little extra money, I like to splurge a bit on apps that I don’t need, but that are nice!
🚀 Launcher
I really, really like Raycast 🖇️. Not only is it a great launcher, but (among other things) I also use it for this:
Setting keyboard shortcuts for opening apps and running shortcuts
Window management
AI chat and commands
Text snippets
It also has tons of extensions you can install. For instance, I have one to create masked emails from Fastmail, and another to search for links in Anybox.
📋 Clipboard manager
Raycast also has a decent clipboard manager – but Paste is better, and included in Setapp.
Tumblr media
📄 PDF tool
I use NitroPDF. It’s an app that I would never pay for – but it’s included in Setapp, so I’m happy that I get a slightly better tool than the default one. There are several apps like this on the list, including the next one:
🗜️ Zip tool
Archiver stays out of the way, and does just what you want it to do nicely. However, the free The Unarchiver is also great!
🍸 Menu bar organiser
I also use Bartender through Setapp, and I like it. It did get purchased recently, so if you want an alternative, I’d check out Ice. There are some advanced features I use in Bartender, though, which I fear aren’t in Ice. I like that it can automatically show the battery when it gets low, and that I can automatically change layout when I connect to my Studio Display.
🗑️ Uninstaller
Pearcleaner is a simple app that does what it does so well.
🌍 VPN
I very rarely use a VPN – but when I do, I like that Setapp comes with a nice one, called ClearVPN.
🖌️ Design tools
I use, and greatly recommend, the Affinity Suite of apps. I use all three, but I’m, by far, most comfortable with Designer.
Entertainment
🎬 Video player
I don’t view a lot of video on my Mac, but when I do, I use Elmedia Player. Where it not for Setapp (again), I’d use Iina.
🎙️ Podcast player
I’m a long-time Overcast user. The developer recently released a complete overwrite of the app. This was clearly needed, and absolutely the right move for the app’s future, which I’m excited about. But currently I like it less than I did pre-rewrite.
🐘 Mastodon client
Mastodon is my social media of choice, and there are so many great apps for it out there! But my favourite, is Mona.
🎵 Music
A couple of months ago, I switched from Spotify to Tidal. The better sound quality I viewed as a bonus, while the main reason was due to the higher artist payments. However, I’m not sure I, and most other people, evaluate the payments correctly – so not sure if I got that right. (More on this here!) I also think Spotify is a better app and service, so I do miss it. But I don’t have a plan to move back at the moment.
That’s it! These apps have stayed the same for a while – but I still love checking out new stuff, so there will probably be changes down the line.
Having the files here, as opposed to a regular cloud file storage, does have some drawbacks. But I like that the NotePlan apps are native, has support for both #-tagging and @-tagging, great UI for calendar notes, etc. I will write more about this later! ↩︎
Keep it mind that if as little as one participant in an iMessage chat has regular iCloud backups turned on, it isn’t end-to-end-encrypted. I personally don’t mind this at all! But I think this facts make iMessage and Telegram about the same when it comes to security, as Telegram always “only” encrypts on server. ↩︎
This extension also works with Safari – but Apple is making it a bit hard for them. And the search suggestions gets delivered from the engine you’ve selected in the Safari settings, like DuckDuckGo. ↩︎

Feedback 1:
Just bought an OBDSTAR iScan Ducati which arrived this morning.
I might have to read the instructions to get the best out of it, but a simple code read to find out why I have an engine light on worked well. So I’m happy so far. Now just need to fix it.

Feedback 2:
OBDStar unit arrived this morning. Have registered and updated it. Will connect it up to the Panigale V4S 2018 bike later with an update on how it worked out.
OK.I managed to enable the Bluetooth function on the bike with the OBDStar unit and read the DMS module.
However, the VIN number stored on it, is that of the bike the dealer connected it to, to originally activate the DMS module. The only way to erase that is at the dealer and reset it to my own VIN.
It does not seem to make much difference in terms of functionality though, as the Ducati Connect app lets me pair my phone with my bike and all the dash functions, such as Last Calls, Player On/Off etc, all work as described.
I will have them correct it when I eventually take the bike in for any software updates and to load the Akra exhaust map.
There is evidently a lot of functionality on the OBDStar unit and under the 'Special Functions' menu, you can enable/disable a number of items even reset the odometer, though I cannot condone it, if you do.
There are also a number of other features you can use, but these may potentially carry some risk to the ECU, so I am leaving them well alone.
It is most likely of interest if you want to reset or clear existing error codes, such as a DQS malfunction or a service light or removing an evap canister or Ex servo light error code (likely seen after fitting a different exhaust system).
Normally the updated software (such as the T800 or Akra map) will take care of these codes but if you are fitting something else such as a Spark or Arrow system, this may be of some benefit.
Managed to get hold of a flight case to replace the cardboard box the unit came in. £38 which is not bad really and a much better solution to protect the OBDStar unit and cables. Having measured the dimensions of the two layer foam packaging first, and checked the internal dimensions of the new case online, I didn't even have to trim the foam down as the whole thing fitted straight into the case. There is a small gap around the edges but it's still a pretty snug fit.

Feedback 3:
There is a way to select a different model to the one the unit thinks it is connected to.
Initially mine identified the bike automatically from the VIN encoded into the ECU. Correct me if I'm wrong but I surmise that this is how you're connecting to your bike? After an update to the OBDStar it seemed to stop recognizing the bike this way. So I now have to go to the diagnosis level of the menu and choose "Select from Vehicle" rather than "Auto Identify [VIN]".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Choose the 2nd option “Select from vehicle”
Tumblr media
That then asks me to input serial.
Initially this was is a little confusing, until I realized that the spreadsheet has a column headed "Serial" containing a single alpha or numeric value matching the first character of the corresponding "Model" column. Entering "M" brings up a list of models including all the Multistradas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Selecting the appropriate one brings up a list of the model year ranges to drill down further.
Tumblr media
Selecting one of these and then clicking OK brings up the list of possible action headings such as; ENG ANS, Meter, Activations, BBS etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clicking on one of these, from experience shows the year/year range again and that then results in the OBDStar trying to connect to the bike.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As this was done at my desk and without the bike plugged in I get the above message.
I haven't tried to connect to mine as anything other than what it is. Not sure if it will let you proceed if it's plugged into a model it's not expecting based on your previous selections?
Last year I did plug it into Monster to reset an error light.
Feedback 4:
I updated the OBDstar iScan yesterday and plugged it in to the bike just now. It’s a 2015 1200 DVT
I have way more activations available to me than I had before ... including the one i wanted - foglights:)
I have the lights and the genuine Ducati crash bars (I need to change over as I have SW Motech bars fitted at the mo) so that is a relatively straightforward job to finish off. Knowing the additional lights now function was the main thing. I can hang on now, until it warms up a bit
Someone asked if they stayed on, on full beam as well as dip beam somewhere on here? Yeah they do.
Tumblr media
Feedback 5:
My OBDSTAR iScan Ducati motorcycle diagnostic tool has arrived today.
Impressed so far, all I've done on my initial session was to rest the PINs on my M821 and MTS1200GT, and have a scan through some of the other options. I'll be servicing my M821 fairly soon, and the Desmo for the MTS isn't too far away so that's when they'll be used in anger.
