CRYING YOUR TAGS MADE ME LAUGH 😭 you had a whole crisis over it bae 😭 👍
Studio Ghibli is a childhood staple of mine I have very strong opinions about most of them 😭😭
They've got good stories and beautiful visuals and amazing creativity and environmental messages galore 🥺🥺
Also sorry lol I thought it was just some random poll meant to be like a tournament where you were pitting a bunch of amazing things against each other, but I read the comments after I voted and realized you were just trying to find out what one to watch first. I did NOT realize you hadn't seen any of them before 😅🤣
I recommend watching Princess Mononoke-> Spritied Away -> Castle in the Sky -> Naussica of the Valley of the Wind in that order because those are Miyazaki's like, top 4 plot driven films with environmental messages that kinda follow a past - present - futuristic timeline.
The past is represented with Princess Mononoke, showing the original conflict between human destruction of the environment and the war between those two opposing sides (as well as an Indigenous man's stance in the middle). Spirited Away (and My Neighbor Totoro) take place in the present and explore human-spirit-environment relationships within our world today. Castle in the Sky has this sort of futurism aspect to it, where it looks like it could take place in the past but the technology is just so advanced that it feels like a mix of past and futuristic technologies, and the robots from here seem to show up again in Naussica (at least, they're reminiscent of each other). And Naussica is the faaaaaaar future of a post-apocalyptic world trying to live in balance but also on the constant edge of war with the changing environment around them.
They're all sooooooo unique and carry such heavy and bittersweet and beautiful themes within them and always put forth hope.
