This is Exhibit B in the case for Watanuki being so comfortable in this world now that not only is he no longer surprised when things like this happen, but he anticipates it and acts completely natural. 

The rising vibe that Watanuki doesn’t need Yuuko anymore and will probably be fine without her is both nice and terrible and I’m already pre-booking my stay in the wailing room. 

Even Haruka notices it too! Which is very nice, and also even worse because if they’re talking about it in the text it means it’s absolutely 100% about to be relevant very soon.

But OH I adore this! The neutral and balanced way that xxxHolic talks about universal human experiences without judgement. That both moving forward and moving backward are neither good or bad on their own and that change is just change. That sometimes people need one or the other, and sometimes they don’t, but Watanuki is doing the one that suits him best at the moment and that is still worthy of praise. 

And he’s right to point it out because Watanuki wouldn’t necessarily notice this about himself but he DOES deserve the compliment!
