But its becoming a problem because of how he does it#And we both know it but I dont know how to bring it up without being offensive about it#And also there is nothing he can do differently at this time due to his circumstances#Maybe I'd feel better if he told me about his no good fucked up night because thats what I'm REAL worried about#But he is very good about keeping that kinda thing under wraps#And if im searching right now..... he did not mention his son being over today which. Is Not Good#Im pontificating on this. Not stressing but just. Thinking#I have made it a point to not *stress* because he wouldn't like that lol so I just try to let him know someone is thinking about him#Ugh this poor guy. Just wish I could give him a hug 😔

I probably took it a different way than what you were thinking but I hope you still enjoy!
Utmost Care
Pairing: Technoblade X F! Reader
Warnings: Overprotective nature, Light Angst, Mentions of Swords, Mentions of Scars
~~~~~~~~~~~
Techno didn’t hold a lot of things with value but when he finally did, they were protected with the utmost care. That goes the same for living beings. His daughter certainly was one of those beings.
All of (Y/N)’s life, Techno always kept his eye on her or made someone he trusted with his life was watching her, meaning only he or Phil watched her. If Phil couldn’t watch her at the time, Techno then took her with him, keeping her close the entire time. And, if (Y/N) could tell the truth, as she got older, it was tiring.
She was thirteen years old but she wasn’t allowed to go off on her own. She either had to go with Techno and Phil, the only time she could be alone was in her own room. It was extremely tiring when she couldn’t learn new things that could be considered dangerous. Techno wouldn’t teach her to fight or brew or enchant because he said she’d never need it.
She just wanted to do something without the need for approval. She just wanted to be her own person and live her life as she wanted.
So…that’s how she started sneaking out hours at a time. She was only allowed her own peace and quiet in her room? Alright, she used that to her advantage and locked her door when she knew Techno was busy either tending to things and wouldn’t check on her for hours. When she left, she went to the one place she knew mischief was encouraged.
“Uncle Tommy!” (Y/N) grinned as she walked in the door.
“Here comes trouble!” Tommy grinned.
Tommy indeed encouraged the things Techno considered bad. He helped teach the girl how to fight, taught her to brew, showed her a few things with enchanting, and most certainly let her go off on her own around L’Manberg or the SMP, though he did warn her to be more careful in the SMP lands.
(Y/N) felt free and felt like her own person finally without a weight of watchful eye on her.
It was one of those days once more. Tommy was teaching (Y/N) the ways of the sword.
“Come on, stop trying to hit me and hit me!” Tommy grinned cheekily, then yelping as (Y/N) swung as hard as she could with a smirk.
It was just another day for the pair, they just didn’t know it wasn’t another day for Techno. (Y/N) always left when Techno was on his own because he did get distracted when Phil was around or Phil tended to help him. So, if Phil was around, going out was a no-go. Phil usually showed up in the early mornings so she could tell if she could sneak out pretty early in the day.
But, today, Phil had been held up in L’Manberg and came late.
“Hey mate!” Phil called as he walked over to Techno’s.
“Phil, you’re pretty late,” Techno said.
“Yeah, had to help with some things in L’Manberg first.” Phil shrugged. “Farming all by yourself today?”
“(Y/N) said she wanted to read and she might come out later,” Techno told him as they went into the house, Techno resting his hoe by the door. “(Y/N)! The old man’s here.”
“Fuck off mate.” Phil laughed.
Techno smirked as he cleaned off his hands but frowned when he heard no movement in the rooms above.
“(Y/N)!” Techno called once more.
“She might be sleeping in, let her be.” Phil waved it off. “She’s alright.”
But the voices whispered worry, only fueling Techno’s.
“She doesn’t usually sleep in. I’m going to check on her.” Techno said before going up the ladder.
He went to (Y/N)’s room knocking, but there was once more silence. He didn’t like that.
“(Y/N).” He said trying the door handle, but found it locked. “What the-Hey. What’s with the locked door?”
“Techno?” Phil called up concerned by the conversation he was hearing.
She wasn’t saying anything though and the voices whispered panic and Techno reacted. He took a step back before kicking in the door. Phil jumped before quickly coming up the ladder as Techno went into the room.
“Techno!” Phil shouted as he followed after.
Techno’s breath came quicker out of his nose as Phil came in.
“(Y/N)’s not here. Someone took her.” Techno moved past Phil.
Phil looked at his son leaving the room before looking at the teenager’s room. The only mess was the door but (Y/N) indeed wasn’t here and his wings puffed before he rapidly following after Techno.
“You know, the last thing I thought Techno would do was not teach you how to use a sword,” Tommy said as he leaned back on the bench overlooking the river below his base.
(Y/N) sat next to him, both of their training swords laying down close by.
“I always ask him to teach me but he just tells me I don’t need to learn how to fight. I’ll be fine.” She huffed. “What am I going to do if a mob manages to get in? Can you imagine if a creeper managed to come into our house? It could just blow me and the house up because I couldn’t do anything, I might as well just stand still.”
“Ah, he’s always had a stick up his ass.” Tommy waved his hand. “And an ego. He probably thinks he can keep everything from hurting you.”
“But that’s the point uncle Tommy!” (Y/N) exclaimed. “If he taught me, it’s almost a guarantee I won’t get hurt. I could protect myself and go out and meet people. Do whatever I want.”
“He’ll figure it out eventually,” Tommy assured her.
“Alright!”
Both of them jumped as they looked around wildly, Tommy giving a scream, hearing the voice of said man. Then, a moment later, they realized it was their walkies and shared a look.
“Whoever has my kid can bring her back now and have a painless death.”
“Uh oh.” They both muttered.
(Y/N) scrambled to get her things as Tommy stood up in a panic.
“Bye!” (Y/N) shouted before sprinting towards home.
How the hell was she supposed to explain this? Oh no dad, I just decided to wander in the forest with no warm clothes?
“It’s going to be a shitty day.” She muttered as she slipped into the portal and sprinted down the pathway towards the home portal.
Deciding it was better before her father started searching homes, she took out her walkie.
“Dad!” She spoke. “What’s the problem?”
Techno froze in his path, looking at Phil before taking off his walkie. “(Y/N), where are you right now?”
“I just…went for a little walk. My legs were starting to cramp up.” She lied, wincing slightly.
“Your door was locked (Y/N). What happened?”
“I don’t know the door handle must have broke.” She tried as she felt relief seeing the home portal.
“(Y/N), what’s going on?” Techno asked in frustration.
None of this was adding up. What the hell was going on?
“Nothing dad, everything is—” She stepped out of the portal and froze when she was met with two netherite decorated family members. “Fine…”
Phil’s eyes were wide as Techno stood there quiet for a moment.
…
“YOU WENT IN THE NETHER!?” Techno shouted throwing up his arms.
“Dad, look I can explain—” She tried.
“No! I-What were you thinking?!”
“I—”
Techno looked her over. “Is that a sword?! What—You don’t fight! What the hell were you doing?!”
“Look—”
“Mate—” Phil tried to even cut in.
“No! We’re going home.”
Techno went to grab her arm but she moved back.
“LISTEN TO ME FOR ONCE!” (Y/N) shouted as she shook.
Techno stood in shock as Phil took a step back, this was between father and daughter.
“I-I-Yes! I snuck out! And yes! I have a sword! But its-I just wanted to live for once! You don’t let me go out on my own! You don’t let me train or learn anything you do! I stay at home! And read and learn about farming and crafting basic ass shit! And that’s it! If I’m lucky I get to go out to the village with you keeping a close ass eye on me! And I’m tired of it!”
Techno was quiet as (Y/N) took deep breaths before he came towards her.
“You know that to keep you safe.”
“Oh, shove it, dad! What’s the point of being safe when I don’t know anything! I felt like I was going crazy and I-I can’t do that anymore daddy. I can’t.”
(Y/N) had tears in her eyes. She hated it; she was so tired of it. She was so tired.
Techno was stood in shock hesitating before coming over and hugging her tightly.
“I’m sorry.” He muttered to her. “I…I didn’t know it was hurting so much…”
It was a bit awkward of a hug with his armor on but (Y/N) hugged him back regardless.
Techno had wanted to just keep her safe. He had so many enemies and seen so many things in his life…He just didn’t want his little girl to see all the same things he had and he didn’t want her to carry the same scars. But all the while, it seemed he was hurting her in a different way.
“I’m sorry. We’ll figure it out, ok?”
“Please.” She nodded.
He’ll figure it out, he’ll still make sure she was safe, but he’d figure it out for his little girl to be happy…
Job Benefits. (Part One)
new beginnings ‧₊˚✩彡. - chapter one.
you can find part two here : part two : undesirable
pairing : ceo! gojo x female reader
warnings : cursing
wordcount : 1960
a/n : something that i’ve been working on for a while now. this is self indulgent as all hell and i’m starting a new series n idk when it’ll end necessarily but ceo gojo is all i need in my life. also i have like 300 million requests to go through but i PROMISE i’ll get them done! i just need to finish my valentines event thingy and i’ll be open!
it has come to my attention that gojo is his surname and i’m too lazy to fix anything other then the first name basis part im so sorry LOl
It’s no secret that you like working the office. Even as a child you enjoyed the formal atmosphere when you walked into your parent’s workplace, and even better, you enjoyed organizing stuff. Growing up, your favorite pass time was cleaning and organizing which caused you to excel in school, coupled with your natural smarts. Your peers would constantly tease you, telling you that you were a boring kid- but hey, you’d be making lots of money, and what better job would there be for you, aside from being someone’s secretary? Those were the first words that came across your mind as soon as you stepped into the prestigious building, heels rhythmically hitting the stainless floor, suitcase in hand. It was also the first lie that you’d tell yourself in there. You had known about this company even as a child. One that sold just about everything, the most notable being luxurious clothing, but something the company was also well known for? How attractive the family was. Sure it was a bit weird, but in defense of the general public their appearances were rare, only once in a while you’d see the family on TV. Waving in their limousine, blowing kisses and doing things rich people do, or maybe ignoring the cheering crowd of journalists and news reporters, hell like you knew. Catching glimpses of the wildly white haired family was something every paparazzi threw themselves at, and picking up a magazine or going to search something on the internet would be sure to be chock full of pictures of the esteemed family. The highlight of the family being the son, just because of how handsome he was, and also happened to be the most publicly known and fawned over family member- Gojo fucking Satoru. Luckily for you, he was your boss, so you could probably reveal the tiniest of secrets and make major bank. Unluckily for you, he was childish as all hell, not to mention you found childish people incredibly annoying. The worst thing? You were his secretary. That could only spell out doom for a man like him, and a woman like you, who only wanted to get business done and nothing else. You two truly did not mix. Two months prior, you had gotten the job and was finally excited to have stable income after graduating. Your hirers didn’t tell you anything about having to babysit a manchild though. And so, that’s how you found yourself sitting in the comfortable plush leather office chair, fumbling under the piles of paperwork and fan letters, cursing your boss’s name under your breath for being so unconcerned with work. Scheduling appointments, interviews, sending e-mails of unacceptance to eager authors asking to write an auto-biography, that was your life. You’d be content with it if your boss was normal. As soon as the thought crosses your mind, it’s like he heard you think. “(Y/N)-chan~!” you hear a familiar sing-songy voice down the rather short hallway. Your office resided right next to his, and it would only take him 30 seconds or so to walk down to your door, presumably to annoy the hell out of you. You grunt, blowing a stray hair out of your face. This also meant that you could hear him sing from his office, even through the thick walls. Choosing to ignore it, you instead furiously typed to another business executive’s secretary who had just emailed you about a meeting between Gojo and- well you weren’t quite sure who. “(Y/N)-chan~ I know you hear me, don’t you know it’s disrespectful to not listen to your seniors?” his playful, deep voice was growing closer, and you straighten your back, sighing. You didn’t sign up to be a daycare worker, yet this was what you found yourself doing most of the time. “I’m sorry, Satoru-sama, please instill me with your great knowledge, oh wise one.” rolling your eyes and rubbing your temples, you glance up from your laptop, bracing yourself for whatever would happen next. Gojo leaned on the frame of your door, head ducking slightly. He was way too tall to walk under it without any issue. He was unnecessarily calm though, normally he’d be jumping around your office, making a mess of things, but his body language told otherwise. He was slacking off from his duties, obviously, so you weren’t too sure why he’d be acting so... Chill. With his arms crossed, he gave you a mischievous side eye. Growing impatient, you stand up, your knuckles grinding against the tabletop. Your brow knitted together as he peered down on you, almost tauntingly, and you hated it. “Listen, boss. I have a lot to do today, for you, might I add as I am your secretary- and if you’re going to sit around I don’t think I’ll get to these emails and phone calls and everything fast enough. May I kindly assist you with anything? If not I’ll have to ask you to go back to... Whatever you were doing.” Gojo looked at you, wide-eyed and unblinking, like he didn’t expect such a sassy remark. “Oh my, sweetie. Someone has a naughty mouth... To your boss of all people? How mean! I don’t think I remember putting, ‘allowed to be rude to the Satoru clan’ down on the job benefits.. What’s with the formal tone as well? So unnecessary, just be yourself when you’re talking to me.” He sauntered closer to your desk, and your breath hitched, this was one of the first times you’d seen him up close like this, and you swore that you could hear your heart beating rapidly inside of your chest. You don’t know what that could mean; but what you did know was that you wanted to slap him or punch a hole into the glass window right behind you and throw him off the 15 floor building. Leaning in close to your ear, he whispered: “Or, if you wanna stick with the business voice- call me sir. Got that?” You nod before looking down at your desk, feeling your body heat up for seemingly no particular reason. Did this guy have any knowledge of a private bubble? Whatever, this was your superior. If it was any boss you’d probably be fired by now. You were lucky to be forgiven. “Yes, sir. May I comment on something... Er, sir?” “I’m all ears.” standing back up from leaning over your incredibly messy desk, you looked up at him, he looked down at you in response, with beady little “innocent” eyes through his circular shades. “I didn’t mean to be sassy, I only wish for this relationship to be professional and nothing else.... I, um, truly do apologize and I ask for your forgiveness.” you studied the wall as you say this, fidgeting with your hands and the hem of your pencil skirt. It was a bit awkward to talk to him as if he wasn’t a kid, but it did feel certainly refreshing. “Is that so?” you turn your head to look back at him as a sign of respect, an eyebrow of his is raised, and a smug smirk is playing at his lips. He talked with such an aura of arrogance around him, you instantly regret being respectful. Yet, you restrain yourself from slapping that stupid smirk off his stupidly handsome face. Why did all the handsome ones have to be so annoying? Fuck, no, that wasn’t meant to be a compliment. Even though it was only in your mind, you felt so embarrassed, and had no idea why. It wasn’t like he could read your thoughts, and it was just a mindless compliment, nothing flirtatious about it. Finally, he spoke. “Aw. (Y/N), I knew we picked well when we hired you. So respectful and professional! What more can I ask for out of a secretary? I humbly accept your apology- but first please do something for me.” he whistled in the other direction as he picked up one of your cute stationary pens, hastily sliding it into his blazer’s pockets. “Yes, sir?” you brace yourself for impact yet again. Not noticing that he stole one of your favorite pens. “Slack off a little. None of my secretaries ever worked this hard. I’ll slide in an extra hour for lunch, you can go watch a movie or something-” “No. Satoru. Contrary to your other secretaries, I actually enjoy work.” standing up now, you stomp over to Gojo, who was now giggling like a 7 year old girl. You hadn’t realized that you had called him by his first name, but honorifics wasn’t on your mind right now. Your chest stuck out as you shoved him out of your office with your bare hands, maybe as a way of looking more threatening, as if that’d ever work against him. “Get out of my office!” You hope your eyes are staring daggers, if he ever looked back at you. Gojo looked at you like he was shocked, tipping his shades down just slightly as you were pushing him out into the hallway. As if he didn’t believe what he was seeing, so he had to see it with his actual eyes- but eventually laughed before accepting his eventual fate. “On a first name basis now, aren’t we? You’re straightforward! I like straightforward girls though, it works out in your favor.” “Shut it.” He made sure to stiffen once in a while just to piss you off so that you couldn’t push him as easily, and before long he was back to his office. “Cya (Y/N)!” giving you a wave and a wink, he grinned. “I’ll be sure to visit you again, your office is fun!” That was just one of the unusual interactions that Gojo Satoru had with you, but you knew now that it certainly wouldn’t be the last. ‧₊˚✩彡. It didn’t take you long before you realized your favorite pen was gone. Almost immediately, you figured out who the thief was. It was evident by now that your relationship between you and your boss wasn’t normal, to say the least. You just couldn’t quite wrap your head around why he stole a cute carrot pen, it certainly wasn’t his style. Well, you weren’t quite sure honestly, but the way the magazine front covers posed him was... Sexual. Maybe the hot guy liked cute carrot pens and was too scared to buy them by himself, but, it was 2021. Toxic masculinity was basically extinct. This wasn’t on his mind when he stole your pen, though. Gojo Satoru was smart when he wanted to be. To be quite honest, he just wanted to annoy you more. It made him curious, how could one enjoy work? And be cute at the same time? The logic made no sense to him. Attending meetings, doing interviews- this was all very boring work to Satoru, and he couldn’t wrap his head around that you enjoyed that. He hadn’t asked to inherit the company, but yet here he was now. Shit, maybe he’d ask you if you wanted the company. He yawned before drinking his coffee, just how he liked it before taking a sip he straightened his tie, just to make sure he looked extra clean and fresh when you busted down the door, ruffling his fluffy white hair as he did so. Gojo hated the work environment, just to be straightforward. One thing he did enjoy was the complementary luxury coffee machine, alongside several sugar packets. Placing his impossibly long stick-like legs onto the table, he sighed happily. Cute girl being his secretary, drinking yummy coffee, the sun rays warming up the back of his head, he was truly living the life. And then he heard it. Loud steps against the tile floor. And then, his door flung open.
hold your heart
Genre: criminal/mafia au
Warning: mention of guns and alcohol, cheating, smut, basically violent subjects
Pairing: jooheon x fem!reader
Word count: 4.8K
Summary: just when you were ready to let go of the past your ex-lover re-enters your life bringing a dark secret with him.
A/N: uh hi im here with an mafia au because they are my biggest weakness ugh, also idk if this will have another part, but if you guys want one let me know. it may be a little confusing at the start but you will understand with time,, enjoy!
“Today is the charity gala, you remember right?” Hyunsoo asked you, while he put on his tie. You looked up from your book and watched your fiancé get ready.
If someone would have told you a year ago how you would be engaged to someone who you don’t even love you would’ve laughed and praised their crazy fantasie, but the only thing you are laughing at now is you. Hyunsoo is the son of your fathers best friend and well what father doesn’t want a good boy as their son-in-law? Your father saw the opportunity and took it and since there wasn’t anything to lose for you either what was stopping you? You closed your book before standing up.
“Yes. I remember,” you answered.
As the CEO of his company your father decided to plan a charity gala, but this was only what everyone else thought. The real reason behind all this was a trap for the most wanted thief in Korea right now. Hyunsoo was a criminal detective and this gala was just his mission.
What attracts a thief? Money.
Where do you find so much at one spot? The bank and a charity gala.
Bingo.
“I will see you at the gala, since we still have a meeting regarding today.” You nodded as he grabbed his badge, before giving you a quick kiss on the cheek. When the door closed you let out the breath you were holding in.
Hyunsoo was a great person. He was mature, understanding and very caring for someone who didn’t love you, not only that but always made sure you had a good time with him. He was basically everything a girl wanted in a man.
But Hyunsoo wasn’t him.
“Hey,” someone said and you looked up from your notes just to roll your eyes. “What do you want?” You asked and he chuckled.
“Why can’t you just say hey back like everyone else?” He asked you and you huffed while raising your eyebrow.
“Do you annoy other people like you do with me?” You asked locking back down to your notes. “You’re the only one I annoy,” he smiled with heart eyes and you sighed before packing up your books as he gave you a confused look.
“Where are you going?” He asked you. “Away from you.” You answered before walking out of the library followed by him.
“Stop playing hard to get y/n,” he laughed, grabbing your arm gently. “Eventually you will fall for me,” he continued making you scoff.
“Yeah whatever fills your boat, now let go of my arm or you won’t be able to hold anything for the rest of your life,” you said and he did with a chuckle.
“Don’t worry, the only thing I’m planning on holding is your heart,” Jooheon winked.
“Dr. Y/n, should I send Mr. Park in?” The officer asked and you nodded. “Yes, thank you, officer.” You gave a short smile. You almost scoffed at the thought of you being a criminal psychiatrist and your soon to be husband a criminal detective, a match made in heaven.
You cringed at the sound of the handcuffs, when the man in front you sat down. The officer left and you looked over giving your patient your attention.
“Good Morning Mr. Park,” you said but he stayed silent just like the last three times, however you were used to it. Criminals are psychopaths and they don’t like the feeling of vulnerability, especially someone from the ‘other side’. They don’t like talking nor showing any kind of emotions other than anger.
You took off your glasses placing them on the table in front you before looking up again.
“I know it’s hard to talk about this and I wouldn’t want to answer these questions either, but I need you to cooperate.” He looked down to his handcuffs and you continued.
“We are not against you, we are just trying to help you.” It was silent before he took a deep breath.
“I don’t wanna be in jail,” he said and for some reason a dusted memory flashed through you.
“Thank you y/n,” Mr. Jung said as you gave him the file your father asked you to deliver to the police station. “No worries Uncle,” you smiled but it faded as soon as your eyes landed on Jooheon.
Wait Jooheon? What is he doing here?
He called your name and waved while his other hand held the cell bars in front of him. “What the hell are you doing here?” You asked him but he just smiled.
“I always wanted to know how it is in jail,” he said and you rolled your eyes.
“Do you know each other?” Mr. Jung asked and you immediately replied with no, while Jooheon replied with yes at the same time. You sighed rolling your eyes. Of course.
“He is a student at my University,” you said after he gave you a confused expression. “Yeah we are very close friends,” Jooheon added and you clenched your jaw.
“He punched a guy,” Mr.Jung replied nodding into his direction, which left you confused. You may not be a lawyer, but you surely don’t go to jail for punching someone.
“He broke his jaw. He is in the Hospital.” he added and you turned to Jooheon who just gave you a nervous smile.
“Officer, I already told you he was cat-calling girls in front of the cafe with his friends. I would have broken more if you’d give me the chance,” Jooheon said pouting and you blinked a couple of times.
After that your view changed on him and suddenly he wasn’t that annoying.
You put your pearl earrings on, before giving yourself a last look in the mirror. The off-shoulder, deep blue satin dress complimented your skin. The door opened and Hyunsoo walked in with his phone against his ear. “Yeah we’re about to leave,” he informed the other person, before sliding his phone into the pocket.
You picked up your purse and phone as his eyes trailed over your body. “You look…” he frowned searching for the right words, “breathtakingly gorgeous.”
You smiled at his words. “You too, Hyunsoo.”
He stared at you and when you said his name to get his attention he blinked a couple of times. “I’m sorry I just...never mind let’s go.”
The drive was silent, but you felt him look over to you a couple of times and every time you turned your head he would just clear his throat and look away.
“You know it’s rude to stare?” You said jokingly and he chuckled.
“You know it’s rude to look this good and not even let your fiancé admire,” he answered, making you shake your head at his attempt to flirt.
You took a sip of the champagne, looking around the hall as your parents were talking to Hyunsoo’s parents.
“Hyunsoo told me about your promotion,” his mother spoke up and you gave her a smile nodding.
“Oh yes, just recently.” You nodded looking down, hoping she would stop talking to you and luckily she did. After your fourth glass of champagne you felt your bladder calling.
“I’ll go to the bathroom,” you informed your mother before grabbing your purse. The elevators were so pretty and the roof had a mirror making you stare in awe. When the doors opened you noticed the floor being oddly quiet, but you brushed the thought side walking to the bathrooms with your heels giving off a satisfying noise. After you were done you gave yourself a last look in the mirror before walking to the elevator as your phone vibrated. It was Hyunsoo, but you didn’t have the chance to speak up as you heard his panicked voice.
“Y/n, listen to me carefully. Leave as fast as you can and take the stairs.” You frowned at his words and an uneasy feeling started spreading inside of you.
“What’s the matter?” You asked looking around, if he could see you.
“He is on the same floor as you so leave now!”
“Who is on the same floor, Hyunsoo? No one is here.” You answered pressing the elevator button. You waited for a moment but the floor was dead silent and you turned back around.
“Hyunsoo no one-“
Your breath hitched and you could swear your heart stopped right there in then the moment your eyes met his. Hyunsoo’s voice already faded away as you stared at Jooheon for a moment before your fiancés voice pulled you out of your state of shock.
“Y/n do as I tell you and stop arguing!” He said sternly and you gulped, muttering an okay. Your eyes fell on the gun in his hand and you stood there unable to to even speak up.
He said your name casually, giving you a small smile and the way it rolled off your tongue made your heart flutter and skin tingle.
Two years. It's been two years since you saw Jooheon and you didn’t know what to say. He looked so different, so...manly. You whispered his name, like you were making sure he wasn’t an illusion.
After Jooheon disappeared two years ago without any letter, call or even message, you were devastated. You couldn’t function for months and it did take you up to a year to accept all that, but seeing him now in front of you made your brain malfunction and you weren’t sure if you wanted to kiss or kill him.
You heard footsteps and Jooheons eyes widened.
“Hands up! Now!” You heard your fiancé’s voice, which pulled you back into reality. A bunch of police officers with guns stood there pointing at you and Jooheon while all this felt so unreal and for a moment all the voices faded and you looked at Jooheon not wanting to believe that he was standing right in front of you.
Not as your sweet Jooheon, but as a criminal.
You felt someone pull your arms and suddenly your back was pressed against Jooheons chest as you felt something cold and hard pressed against your temple.
Hyunsoo's eyes widened and he instantly dropped the gun, knowing exactly what he wanted.
“Weapons down. Now!” He said and slowly raised his arms. “Leave her alone, she has nothing to do with all this,” he added.
You turn your head to Jooheon, shocked at what he was doing. That was not your Jooheon. That was not the Jooheon you knew.
“Press the button,” he said nodding to the elevator and you raised your shaking hand pushing the button, before he slowly walked back into the elevator with you still pressed against his chest. “Underground parking,” he whispered again and you did as he told you, hands still shaking. You knew Jooheon wouldn’t hurt you, but right now you really were doubting that.
“Don’t you dare follow me and if I see my face in the news, your little fiancé is dead.” You gulped at his harsh words and tone and the moment the elevator doors closed he removed the gun taking a step back. You blinked a couple of times before turning around, letting out a breath you didn’t notice you were holding in.
“What the fuck Jooheon! How dare you point a gun at me?” You yelled at him with a shaking voice, while he removed his bowtie followed by opening a couple of buttons of his shirt.
“I wouldn’t hurt you y/n,” he said and you took a step closer scoffing.
“Clearly you would.” He frowned at your words before pointing the gun against his temple and when he pulled the trigger you gasped protecting your ears with your arms, but nothing happened. A click sound was heard and you slowly opened your eyes standing up straight as you looked at the gun then him.
“You didn’t actually think I would point a loaded gun at you,” he chuckled, stuffing the gun at the back of his suit. The door opened and you walked out of the elevator.
“I’m going back,” you scoffed but he grabbed your wrist pulling you back.
“Said who?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Me, now let go of my hand-“
“or I won’t be able to hold anything for the rest of my life. Right?”
You felt his hold soften and he pulled you closer. “But don’t worry baby, the only thing I’m planning on holding is your heart,” he said quietly and you didn’t even notice the tear before Jooheon wiped it away. You didn’t realise how much your heart needed him these two years, until now that you had him this close.
“Where are we going?” You asked after a while you were on the highway.
“Somewhere,” he said, still looking at the road in front of him and you rolled your eyes. “Wow, very helpful,” you replied, making him chuckle. He promised you to explain everything once he got away from there, and for some reason you wanted to get away with him. You were still mad, but your feelings didn’t change for this man and probably never will.
“How is he?” He asked after a while and you looked away. “Is he treating you better?” He added and you scoffed now.
“You left me, Jooheon. Don’t you dare ask that. Do you even know what I went through when you decided to disappear and rob innocent people? You put me through hell.” Your voice cracked and he sighed.
“You wanted a break,” he said and you laughed. “I wanted a break not whatever the fuck you did after that.”
“Okay listen let me explain,” he said and you leaned back into our seat. “Go ahead.”
He took a deep breath, before activating the auto-pilot.
“Remember I told you that my father died?” He asked and you hummed. “Well I lied. He is alive. The reason why I did that was because he was a bad person, at least that’s what I have been told.” You gave him a confused look and sighed. “My father is Lee Mingyu,” he said after a while and your jaw dropped.
“You mean…” you trailed off and he hummed.
“The mafia leader Lee Mingyu.” He ended your sentence and your breath hitched.
“A week before I disappeared, my father contacted me asking me if I’m dating someone and I was confused on why he was asking that,” he continued his story.
“He told me that a rival gang targeted you, in hope to take revenge on me. So in order to protect you and your family I did what I had to do. I was lucky when you asked for a break, so I took that as a sign from the universe.” He explained and you blinked a couple of times processing everything he just told you.
“You’re safe now y/n,” he assured you after he saw your expression.
“I’m safe with a thief? With the son of a national criminal?” You asked him and the affliction was clear in his eyes as you felt his heart throb. “Don’t say that,” he whispered and you scoffed softly.
“I have never spent one coin on myself and neither have I robbed an innocent person. The people that I rob are the ones that use their money for the wrong purpose,” he said sternly.
“The mafia is not as bad as the society tells you to think,” he continued and you raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? How will you sugar coat killing innocent people?”
“See! This is exactly what I’m talking about.” He groaned leaning back into his seat.
“Do you know how many innocent people have died from the hands of police officers? But of course no one talks about that, since they are the good guys, right?”
You looked down thinking of an answer, clearly taken aback at how accurate he was.
“Have you asked your Mr. Perfect on how many people he has killed?” He looked over to you and you stayed silent. You indeed were curious now.
“The government is manipulative y/n. They are not as good as they show themselves to be, because I can assure you that there is so much dirty stuff going on. They are so fixated to wipe us out, so the truth doesn’t get exposed.”
You gulped still unsure on how to form your own opinion on this.
A vibration pulled you out of your thoughts and you pulled your phone out just to see Hyunsoo calling you.
“What the fuck y/n!” Jooheon said, before grabbing your phone and throwing it out of the window making you gasp as he closed the window again.
“Don’t you know they can track us with your phone?!” He explained.
“What if they track us with that car?” You scoffed and he sighed.
“They can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because this is your fathers car,” he replied and you sat up. “WHAT?” You yelled out and he gave you an apologetic smile.
“I’m sorry y/n, but that was necessary,” he added and you sighed.
You saw him exiting the highway and you were honestly glad after a two hour drive in that dress.
“Will you tell me now where we are going?” You tried again and he gave you a genuine smile. “Patience, baby.”
“Don’t call me that, I’m still mad at you.” You rolled your eyes and shook his head amused by your behavior.
Jooheon pulled up the car in front of a bigger mansion, leaving you confused. “Where are we?” You asked him when he opened the door for you, offering you his hand which you accepted.
“My home.” He smiled and your eyes widened. “Wait...what?” You gasped and he laughed at your reaction.
“Just trust me. I want you to meet someone,” he explained while walking in with you and you were still confused but did as he said, following him with your hand still in his.
“Make sure nothing goes wrong during the shipment.“ You heard a voice which instantly stopped talking as soon as you walked into the living room. You turned your head to a man your fathers age. Lee Mingyu you assumed.
“You’re back.” He stated and Jooheon nodded.
His eyes drifted to you and he gave you a small smile, which you almost didn’t notice. “Jooheon told me a lot about you, y/n.” He looked down to your hands and you wanted to pull it away, but Jooheon just grasped it tighter not giving the chance to.
“Only positive, of course,” he added chuckling and you gave him a nervous laugh.
“Jooheon, what are you doing standing here? Let her rest. Is this how we treat our hostage?” He said and your eyes widened at his words.
Hostage?
“Dad stop, she’s already scared.” Jooheon shook his head making his dad laugh. “I apologise. Treat this like your own home y/n.”
You looked around the room silently, absorbing the dresser as something catches your eye. Jooheon’s Parfum. You picked it up holding it close to your nose inhaling his smell. You always used to tell him how much you loved how he smelled. Like home. The door opened and you hastily placed the bottle back, before turning back.
“Why am I here?” You asked him as he took off his jacket placing it on the bed.
“Jooheon I have a job, a life. You can’t just kidnap me to your house in god knows where and expect me to just happily leave my whole life behind,” you said, making him stop in his tracks before a deep sigh left his chest.
“You’re right and I know,” he said, turning around to face you, “but I can’t spend another day without you, y/n.”
He gently took your hands in his, before placing kisses on both of your knuckles and you sighed.
“You weren’t the only one who went through hell. I lived everyday with the guilt of not only putting your life in danger but also leaving you without any explanation.”
He slipped his fingers into yours. “Do you know how much I just wanted to leave all this behind? But I couldn’t, not while knowing that going back to you can lead to me losing you,” he continued leaning closer to your face, with his brown eyes staring longingly into yours and there goes your plan to not get weak.
“I did it all for you.”
You lowered your gaze to his chest not wanting to look into his eyes, before your knees would lose their last strength.
“Look at me,” he said after a while and you bit down on your lower lip, looking back up. Your heart was beating heavily against your chest, while his eyes only made your heart flutter
“You’re so beautiful baby,” he said quietly like these words were only meant for you to hear. His breath fanned over your lips and when you couldn’t take it anymore you closed the gap between you two, pressing your lips against his pillow like lips. He instantly tilted his head, deepening the kiss while one of his hands gently rested on the back of your head guiding you. You sighed into the kiss like you finally could breath after those two years, as if you were drowning and his hand finally grasped yours pulling you to the surface. Finally he saved you from suffocating.
When he felt the tears on your cheeks he pulled back with a worried expression, gently wiping them away.
“I missed you so much, Jooheon. I won’t survive it again without you.” You sobbed into his chest, grasping his shirt tightly. “Please don’t leave me ever again.”
“Hey it’s okay baby, I’m here.” He placed a kiss on your forehead, before pulling you closer. “I’m here now, and I’m not leaving again,” he whispered, tugging a strand of hair behind your ear.
He pulled your lips into another kiss, putting all his feelings and emotions into it.
“I missed you too,” he mumbled in between kisses. “Let me show you how much I missed you.”
It felt like your body was on fire, as the fluttering only intensified. You felt your knees get weaker and you were sure that he felt your heart against his chest. Maybe time stopped, because the only thing you could focus on was his lips devouring yours in such a passionate way, clouding all your senses. It was still hard to believe that all this was happening and if it wouldn’t have been for the way his hands tightly pulled your body against his, you’d think this was a dream.
“The stars are pretty, right?” You said awkwardly trying to ignore the way he was looking at you.
“Can I kiss you?” He suddenly asked and you turned your head to your left.
“W-what?” You stuttered, making sure you heard him right.
“Can I Kiss you, y/n?” He repeated with a smile and you gulped. “I…” you started but nodded after taking a deep breath. He leaned forward and his lips gazed over yours, before he softly pressed them against yours. It was a short kiss, but it felt like something exploded inside of you. As if time had stopped right there, as you sat at the rooftop of your building, after Jooheon wanted to be the first one to wish you a happy birthday. As if no one else existed, like there was no risk of your parents watching his hands softly caress your waist and finger run over the exposed skin between your jeans and shirt.
A deep blush creeped over your cheeks and you looked away. “Are you blushing, baby?” He asked and you almost jumped off the roof at the pet name. “You wish,” you scoffed, turning your head away just for him to make you look back to him.
“It was your first kiss, wasn’t it?” He chuckled and you hummed, cringing at how he was pushing past your ego.
You pulled his shirt down his shoulders after your fingers nervously worked on undoing his buttons. Your hands trailed over the tattoos on his chest, clearly taken aback at how much he changed. This Jooheon was just new to you.
“You like them, baby?” He asked and you nodded slowly, pulling his swollen lips into another kiss while his hands found the zipper of your dress and in seconds it slipped down your body.
“Fuck, you’re so beautiful,” he whispered after seeing your lace lingerie, now hovering over you and you saw his biceps flex as he held up his weigh next to your head.
He placed open mouthed kisses down from your jaw to your neck, making you whimper. Hyunsoo was your fiancé, but nothing more happened than kisses on the cheek so the effect of Jooheon’s every touch was more intense than you thought.
Your fingers slipped into his hair when his tongue gazed over your collarbones while his hand rubbed up and down your thigh. Piece by piece he was removing your remaining lingerie, carefully unwrapping you like an expensive gift and he sure took his time leaving you begging for more.
“Jooheon please do something,” you begged, while his finger trailed up and down your center.
“What does my baby want me to do, huh?”
“I want you inside me, please.” A whimper escaped your lips.
He kissed your jaw and your hands grabbed his shoulder, realizing your ring was missing.
“My ring,” you moaned out just when he finally pushed his finger into you.
“You won’t be needing that when you're with me,” he said leaning down, pulling you into a kiss and not even a second later your ring was forgotten as his touch clouded your senses.
You whined into the kiss when the feeling of his finger disappeared, but got replaced with his tip sliding up and down your folds. Your teeth sunk deep into your lower lip as he slowly pushed into you.
“I missed you so much,” he whispered, placing soft kisses on your shoulders. “Fuck I missed the way you grasped me so tightly, baby.” You moaned wrapping your arms around his neck pulling him closer to you, while his hips thrusted into you.
“Does he touch you like that?” His hand lovingly grabbed your breast taking a nipple in his mouth, making you close your eyes at the blissful feeling of his wet tongue.
“Tell me, baby. Does he fuck you like that?” He whispered against your lips thrusting into you harder, picking up his space as he started hitting your g-spot.
You shook your head, your heavy breathing filling the room. “No, he didn’t.”
“That’s right baby. You are mine and only I can touch you like that,” he said and you saw his jaw clench. Jooheon couldn’t help but get the image of another man touching you off his mind. His hand grabbed yours, pinning it next to your head, now chasing both orgasms.
“Be my good girl and cum for me.” He groaned when you clenched around him. You felt the knot building in your lower abdomen and he leaned down kissing you with his tongue sliding over your lower lip. You arched your back, moaning into the kiss when the euphoric feeling washed over you leaving your legs shaking against his waist.
The room was silent only filled with your heavy breathing. You didn’t open your eyes, still trying to calm down from your high and you felt him pulling you into his arms.
Suddenly a thought crossed your head. Did he really think you slept with Hyunsoo?
“I didn’t sleep with Hyunsoo,” you said quietly and he chuckled. “I believe you y/n,” he answered and you sighed.
“Did you...sleep with anyone?” You hesitated and he placed a kiss against your temple. “I didn’t exactly sleep with someone,” he said after a while, making you look up to him. “I did try to get my mind off you, after a year, when I stopped hoping to be with you again.”
You gave him a confused look. “I didn’t had sex with another woman y/n, but I did have them suck me off,” he explained and you nodded silently, “oh.”
“Don’t look at me like that,” he chuckled at your expression. “I don’t even know their names.”
You honestly couldn’t get mad, since you did try to get over him too and maybe not the same way as him, but it definitely involved making out with other men. You pushed all your thoughts away pulling yourself closer to him. You could worry about going back later, for now you wanted him to cloud all your senses.
Xiao
Notes: Immortal companion* - Just think of someone immortal from the game. This is also a different take from Venti's and Zhongli's because I honestly think Xiao is so done with immortality and its consequences.
Suicide implicitly mentioned.**
Xiao is mourning for the passing of his immortal companion*, making him the last immortal to walk the world. Now, it is he, who last remains from a time of gods and monsters. Each passing of a mutual, he witnessed. They deemed it was their time to move on, for humanity has succeeded to bring fate into their own two hands. The world no longer needed them.
Xiao has already suffered loss way before the Archon War. Yet, he never expressed the emotion of grief for he needed to be strong lest the world will eat him alive. However, this passing made his heart of glass, chip a little, then shattering the whole thing altogether. Or perhaps, it was already chipped away and too fragile because of the losses that has culminated in his immortal life.
Now, he lays on the roof of a building of what used to be Wangshu Inn. He was trying hard not to break down again. By doing so, he merely cursed fate over and over again. Yet, to no avail, the man exploded in tears once more, too tired from all the pain and loss suffered from millenias.
Then... there's you. You who uttered the words, "Until then, we will find each other again."
With all sincerity he can muster, he wanted to believe those words. He wanted to believe in you. That's why he stayed. Yet... the pain he feels heavily overweighs his faith in you.
**
He just wants to... end it all.
"I just want to disappear..."
**
No one heard him utter those words, only the wind. And the wind- just as once the Anemo Archon had said, carries the words one thinks no one can hear.
It came like a whisper, yet loud and clear. Then all of a sudden, the memories of your previous life flashed before your eyes. You dropped the book you were holding and held your temples at the incoming migraine.
"Are you alright?" You friends asked in worry, looking for any visible signs of pain aside from your clenched eyes and your frowning expression.
You could only groan as a reply and your friends waited for you to take your time to recollect yourself.
Who... Whose voice? You knew this voice... But who?
You finally removed your hands and opened your eyes.
"I- I have to go... Go without me." Was all you said before leaving your friends in the dust who looked at your way with confusion.
Who? Many questions riddled your mind. And with all these unanswered, worry and anxiety grew in your heart. Tears began to swell in your eyes, worsening your headache.
This is not about you! You have to look for... something! Someone! Just-
"Dear gods, please please don't you dare fucking take him..."
You sprinted around the area, following and listening to that now faint whisper under the night. The whispers only became clearer and louder when you approached a building which used to be an inn.
The moment you stepped foot within the building, the lone whisper became mixed with more words which did not lift your heart.
Fuck.
With pure adrenaline, you opted to use the stairs instead of the damn elevator. You have finally reached the door leading to the rooftop, and at that point, the whispers became screams. However, when your hand grasped the handle, the voice in the wind stopped. You opened the door at full to be met by the back of the man who stands at the railing.
Xiao...?
Xiao..
Xiao.
"Xiao!"
At the call of his name by a familiar voice, his head whipped to its direction. But he shall not be fooled.
"You... you're not real."
The words along with lifeless eyes stabbed you.
"It's me, Xiao! Y/n! Don't do this! I'm sorry I took so long! But I'm here now! Just as I had promised!"
Your heart was beating against your ribcage. You had to prove you were real. But how?
"You're just an illusion made by my heart."
"Xiao, please! Fuck I'm really sorry! But please you don't have to do this... I... I remember everything, Xiao... All those times we battled in the war. Those times we shared almond tofu. The times we smiled, cried, laughed, and fought...
I remember everything..."
For each word you uttered, you grew confident in your memories. For each word, you took a step closer. For each word, you saw life coming back to the man you love.
"So please... Come back..."
At the final word, you released all your sincerity, genuity, and adoration for him. And finally, your hands took purchase in his (while trying so hard not to shed any tear for his sake).
"It's me."
...
"Y/n...?"
You beamed at him and finally, Xiao's eyes were now shining in clarity, and of course, life and love.
Diluc has been reincarnated many times, yet still has not found you. Through his reincarnated forms, he alternated between travelling and staying in Mondstadt. The former done in order to find you. The latter done in the chance you would find him there.
Diluc
For the first time in his many lifetimes, his current form surprised him. When he reached 'sixteen', his memories resurfaced and the realization sank in. His appearance ended just as how he looked in his first ever lifetime. The only difference was the length of his hair. He even ended up being reincarnated in the Ragnvindr Family along with inheriting the winery business.
To put it bluntly, walking within the old yet maintained Ragnvindr Mansion was a memory lane. However, the moment of reminiscence only gave him a heavy heart, for within these halls used to be filled with your laughter.
In this very same spot where he currently stands, is where you uttered your last words.
"Until then, we will find each other again."
Walking aimlessly around the mansion, he thinks about those long, long years without you. Must be fate so cruel? Making him search far and wide, when in the end fate does not want you to return to him? The man clenched his fists, and in anger, punched the nearby wall.
He expected a bursting kind of pain to come, yet what came was a dull throb on his knuckles. Yet this is not only what he had not expected. He did not expect for the wall to respond with a resounding hollowness.
A hidden corridor? Room? When had the family installed this?
Curiosity held him and began kicking the hollow wall without hesitation. What secrets does it hide from all these years, he shall know. Once the wall opened up for him to fit, he entered with a lit phone in hand at extreme brightness.
Again, what he saw, he had not expected. What he saw both filled and emptied his heart simultaneously. What he saw was a painting of you and him, together in a moment of shared happiness.
"Dilu-" His mother called which snapped out of his trance. His head snapped at her direction and saw her eyes fill with solemness.
"I didn't mean to-"
His mother hushed him with a gentle smile and entered the room to stand alongside him.
"You know," his mother began, "I always believed in the fantasy that had been once in our world. Lord Barbatos, the other Archons, the Twins that saved our world, Visions, and... reincarnation. I always believed in them.
The moment I saw your features when you were born, I knew you were the reincarnation of the Uncrowned King of Mondstadt... So I named you after him because I knew your memories would resurface someday. I knew the day would come when my son will no longer be my son. Because when that day comes, all I would see in your eyes is a long unspoken wisdom and pain that will replace your innocence free from battles and war."
Diluc was surprised, yet kept his emotions to himself. He understood what his mother was pointing at. "Is... Is this why this picture is hidden?"
His mother nodded solemnly. "Perhaps, I was afraid and scared about when the day I spoke of will take place. That's why I ordered this painting be hidden. I knew this painting of you and Lady Y/n will unlock your memories sooner, but I didn't want that."
For once in his lifetimes, his heart softened with love. The kind of love that assures you that someone cares for you. Never in his reincarnated lifetimes, had he experienced this feeling. All those years, he was just... lost in the feelings and thoughts of not being with you.
The man stepped towards his mother with hesitation to which he instantly erased. He hugged his mother with a soft spoken voice saying these words.
"I will always be your son and you will always be my mother. That will never change. I may be 'older' than you, but please do remember that I would not have grown to who am I today without your guidance. For that, I deeply thank you for taking care of me...
I love you, Mom."
With his words, his mother burst into light tears accompanied by a smile. "Don't make me cry, I'm going to wrinkle." Diluc laughed at the comment. After a loving moment, the two separated yet his mother still held onto his arms.
"You've grown so much... I guess little birds do leave the nest someday."
"It wouldn't be possible without you."
His mother looked at him with a proud gaze, "Go. Find her. If memory serves right, I might have seen someone like her dwell everyday in the local library."
The man released his breath he never knew he was holding. Diluc hugged his mom again with a peck on her cheek. He then let go and began to exit the room with haste.
"Once I come home, I will tell you everything. Venti, Morax, the Twin Travelers, the Archons, and Visions. I will tell you everything."
With a rush, Diluc was now out of sight. Yet, the Madam Ragnvindr was not saddened. Her heart swelled for her son whose eyes are finally, once more lit with happiness. However, who's Venti?
A/n: welp truth be told diluc's story took an unexpected turn lol. It's either I'm going to leave this like that or continue it. Take your pick by commenting because I'm actually fine with either options haha happy reading <3
you belong with me- thomas
this is thomas’s pov. i like doing both pov (i dont know if you can tell) but there are a few things im working on but enjoy!
“How could-? Are you even hearing yourself speak you fool? No- no. God, you know what I'm done.” I throw my phone on the bed, scaring Sir Issac in the process. I cringe even as I begin pacing back and forth. It was truly absurd, utterly crazy, that William lived in such a world where he would ever consider me being with anyone but Audrey Rose. Whilst we weren’t together per say, it was clear there would be no one else for me. The fact that he had already caused trouble for us once makes this even more irritating. I turn and find Audrey Rose already watching me. Her hair disheveled in a messy bun which tells me she is studying or researching something. I give her what I hope classifies as a smile and watches as she pulls out a familiar notebook, searches for her pen and then writes: Are you okay?
Of course she would ask if I'm okay and not what happened; using our absurd way of talking to each other instead of using the window or even messaging me. I shake my head but smile and make my way towards my window. The wind hits me, sending my hair flying but I embrace the fresh air as I watch her move herself off her bed, cursing at her stiff legs. She has been there most of the day, not moving and lost in her work and music. She curses once more as she hits her elbow on the window sill and she looks truly adorable. “You have a wicked mouth Wadsworth. Did you not learn cursing is unlady-like?” I try to ignore the other thoughts I have of her mouth.
“Fuck you,” she scowls at me. It always makes me smile hearing her curse, she always sounds confident in them somehow, making them seem so real. The first time she swore was the time she failed a science test. Well, not exactly a fail, but she was marked wrong by a substitute teacher who didn't like her so she decided to berate him in front of the whole class, starting with her shouting ‘bullshit!’ as soon as she saw her results.
“I assume dear wadsworth, you want to ask what has made me so irate?” As much as I would rather climb across the gap and make her watch another one of my romance films again instead of talk about it, I know that I should. Otherwise it'll eat at my mind when I go to sleep. As well as it being used against wadsworth in some way too.
“Perhaps,” she says, eyes sparkling with mischief as she rests her head on the wall and brings her knees to her chest, “perhaps I merely wanted to ask if Sir Issac was okay.” I nearly burst out laughing at her. She has a love hate relationship with my cat. She pretends to hate the ‘beast’ but will often let him sit on her lap or pet him whenever she is over here. When I first got him, she stayed round mine for the night and we settled him. Even then she had tried to pretend not to like him but she doesn’t remember that she fell asleep with him curled up next to her. I had to sleep on my chair because they were sprawled out, surrounded by her work.
“Really? You always refer to him as a little pest, whereas as with me, I am your dearest person, of course you want to know how I am feeling. My son is good though, very energetic today.” Said cat brushes against me and I look at him, the memory still clear in my mind. Yet I know I need to stop avoiding the problem, Audrey Rose is too kind to push me into telling her, and will let me avoid it for as long as I need. It is not the worst thing we’ve faced yet I still hate it.
“I assume you saw the call, well that was William,” she nods, her face already falling at the mention of his name, “Yes, awful. Apparently though, there is a rumor that I'm with Miss whitehall. I don't even remember her first name, but he was convinced of our relation despite my protests. Madness.” I scoff at the sheer audacity of him and his friends. Sir Issac nuzzles into me, knowing that I'm upset and wanting to change that. As well get attention.
“Is this the same William that had convinced everyone I was dating him?”
“Yes.” Anger rolls through me at the memory of that disaster. What hurt Audrey Rose the most is that she truly thought he was a friend. She’d explained that with me she didn't try, but everyone else she had too, so when they'd fallen into easy conversations during lessons she really enjoyed having someone other than me and lize and her uncle to talk to.
“Bitch. Why on earth is he such a problem? Where on earth does he even make this assumptions about us?'' She begins pacing, her mind working faster than her steps as she no doubt recalls everything that happened. I am inclined to do the same. I can still remember her walking into her room, looking at me and falling apart. I climbed into her room and held her letting her calm before she spoke to me. I cried as well, slightly, knowing how much that friendship had meant to her. I'd made us watch a really cheesy film and she'd fallen asleep in my arms.
“I have never once,”I say to drag her back to the present “shown interest in her, nor will I ever.” I drag a hand through my hair. “She's just- a lot.” the first time id met her she was just very loud and demanding, I couldn't stand her. I'd watched her insult so many people for being themselves, for liking childish things, or in Audrey Rose's case, morbid things.
“That is the understatement of the year Cresswell. Besides, you wouldn’t work, she's too- your,” she falls silent, either lost in thought or not wanting to tell me those thoughts. Her cheeks turn a light shade of pink and I smile. She doesn't meet my eye as she sits herself down and I raise my brows as she asks what? As though she didn’t just show me that she has many inappropriate thoughts about me. She curls herself into a ball, hiding in her oversized hoodie, which is mine that I'm not sure she realizes is.
“I’m what? I'd be delighted to know your innermost thoughts of me, Wadsworth.”
“You're absurd but fine I'll elaborate,” she rolls her eyes though, even as the pink deepens slightly. Her eyes focused on my own. So I face her fully, like an astute student in class dying to seek knowledge, “you're too kind, too witty and clever and Whitehall wouldn’t appreciate you enough. You-” she stops talking immediately, as though whatever is in her mind she cant voice. Her face twists into something unreadable and I get the sense that she would rather not ever speak about me being with someone other than her.
“You forgot to mention how handsome I look, or how charming I am, but I'll take it,” she suppresses an eye roll and her smile and ignores the way my voice deepens ever so slightly. I pat Sir Issac off me and earn a whine but he jumps off me. I reach out to her and she leans, her hair ripping free of her bun with little effort from the wind. Her dark curls cling to her face, framing her perfectly too. It makes me want to hold her face in her hands and kiss her deeply.
“I don’t need to inflate your ego further Thomas.”
She inflates my ego every time she smiles at me, whether that be because of my joke or simply smiling at me because I am her friend. “I know but it would've been nice. I did say the inner most thoughts but we’ll get there. Audrey rose-I don’t belong with her, you’re right, my heart would never belong to her especially since it already belongs to someone else.”
She blinks at me, her face falling flat. Silence falls over us and I realize she thinks I'm talking about someone else. And idea forms, one that she may hate me for but one I'm going to do anyway.
“I-” she begins, no doubt going to tell me she wants me to be happy without whomever I'm with. I stand before she can say anything and she stares at me for a second so I motion for her to move. I want to be able to hold her and be next to her. I climb over and set myself on her window sill, leaving enough space for her on the other side. “I hope you are happy with whomever has your heart Cresswell.” I try to hide my smirk at her. Preparing myself for the worst. Preparing myself for her calling me an idiot and that she doesn't like me that way. I wouldn’t blame her.
“Of course I'll be happy. She's amazing. Let me tell you all about her. I met her many years back and was instantly smitten with her emerald eyes and her quick witted mind. How she sings to herself every morning and how her dark curls fall across her face whenever she sits on her bed and reads. I adore her curiosity for the dead and how wicked her mouth is and how delightful it is to watch your mind at work. I love when she shows me a note through the window to see if I'm doing okay and-”
“Wait,” she blurts out, her cheeks red now and eyes bright with shock, “Thomas, are you talking about me?”
I can’t help but laugh. She is one of the smartest people I have ever met yet she, just like I do, struggles with social cues sometimes. Albeit it she is better than I will ever be. “Yes, finally! I thought I'd have to keep speaking forever till you realized it was you.” Not that that would be a problem. As of right now I'd happily list the way her eyes are filled with both relief and shock and happiness and it's a look I want to capture whenever I need a reminder of something good in life.
She scowls at me, ignoring her blush. I take a risk and reach out my hand, moving closer so that her back is straightened on the wall, her attention fixed on me completely. No fake scowl or bright smile, just an intent gaze I can't quite pick apart. I rest my hand on her leg, now free of her (my) hoodie. “Wadsworth, darling, I have been in love with you for some time now.”
I stare at my best friend, my love, as she tries to convince herself this is real. It's truly adorable. Then her eyes widen slightly as she whispers: “I have something to show you.”
She jumps from my grip, running the short distance to her bed and then shuffling through the mountain of books and papers sprawled there until she pulls out a notebook and shakes it, letting a piece of paper drop. It's folded and creased a lot, as though it has been opened often. I watch as she faces me and slowly, her face fixed on the sheet as she opens and holds it out to me.
I read the words: I love you.
I love you.
I read them over and over and over, trying to imprint it on my brain. Her delicate handwriting and her confession reaches out to me and I desperately want to reach out to her, hold her against me and press kisses and make her laugh.
Audrey rose takes her seat across from me and I instantly reach out, holding her leg again. Anything to reassure me this is real. “I wrote that the night after you came here the second time.” her voice is soft, her curls once again framing her face as she looks at me, “Something in me clicked that no matter what you'd find a way to comfort me. Not save me, but work alongside me. I wanted to tell you I just couldn't face it. But I needed to acknowledge it. So I wrote it down, and I look at it every time we use the note system; I try to convince myself to show you.” Audrey Rose would never need saving, never want it, yet her words save my own dark heart that she has felt this way for so long, and we have somehow lived alongside each other and been so blinded by our love entwined with fears that it has taken so long to finally acknowledge them.
I debate pinching myself. Only minutes ago was I miserable and upset, yet Audrey Rose has taken her time to cheer me up. Yet even if I had left it as I am fine, even though she knows me better than that, she wouldn't have pressed for answers; would have waited for me to open up. So i lean in and the world stops as we both wait until our lips are pressed together It's a light kiss, one full of promise and wonder. When I lean back we are both smiling so freely my heart feels as though it too is reaching out to hold Audrey rose. We trade kisses, never wanting to leave this loop but I do lean back away from her. I’m already too drunk on her kisses, I need to breathe, to process this so I can remember it. Once my back is against the wall I pull her, twisting so her back is against mine, leaning into my warmth and I rest my head atop hers. Trying to contain my smiles but to no avail. My hand covers hers and as i look down at her i notice she doesn't bother controlling her smile. It is a magnificent sight.
“Now would be a perfect time to tell me how handsome I am, my love.”
MonX Hospital | Changkyun
Pairing: Im Changkyun x reader
Genre: lab technician – hospital au / romance / strangers to lovers
Warnings: medical terms, and the word “blood” is used a lot, considering Changkyun’s profession, illness.
Word count: 4417
Index: Shownu | Wonho | Minhyuk | Kihyun | Hyungwon | Jooheon | Changkyun
Turning around to the next tray of samples to check, Changkyun stopped for a moment after reading the name on the adjoining paperwork. Working at MonX Hospital as a Laboratory Technician meant he could process samples from the same patients at least twice within his working week. It shouldn’t stand out as anything important to him, yet when he saw your name for the eighth time in the past two weeks, Changkyun found himself a little stunned. There were several other technicians in this department who could have processed your blood work but it seemed to always end up in his batches.
“Everything alright?” his co-worker Bora questioned and Changkyun snapped out of his thoughts, however, his brows remained furrowed.
“Yeah, I’m just getting familiar with this patient’s blood samples.”
Bora grinned. “That sometimes happens. I like to think of it as a sense of fate for a technician to see the same person’s samples during their stay. It’s a pleasure to watch as things improve for the patient through their continued testing.”
As Changkyun waited for the results from the automatic analyser to be transferred to the computer he was monitoring, he didn’t hold the same optimism as Bora did. He had been steadily watching the decline in your numbers over the past two weeks. And when the results appeared, his shoulders dropped.
“There’s an abnormality in these results,” he murmured, and Bora swivelled her chair around so she could see the screen. As a technologist, she was more experienced in looking at results such as these. Still, Changkyun could tell the levels to your iron and blood oxygen count were low.
You would no doubt need a transfusion today.
“Just remember that doing these tests are what will help this patient get the right treatment for a quick recovery.”
Changkyun nodded softly. However, your results bothered him for the rest of the morning and he even spent some time staring at a sample under the microscope just to find exactly where the abnormality was. He was invested for some reason and hoped he could find a way to see your numbers improving each second day instead of dropping.
Resigned, he stepped out for a coffee break in the hospital’s public cafeteria, watching as a patient rested her head against a windowpane. She looked far too pale to be away from her room, though she smiled when the sun danced over her skin.
He couldn’t help himself and sat at the table next to her. “Are you here for the sun?”
“After being locked up in this place for two weeks, I’ve finally found a spot where I can get direct sunlight. It’s too nice a weather lately to be cooped up inside so this is my happy medium.”
“I hate to break it to you but you know you can’t absorb vitamin D through a windowpane, right?”
The patient looked at him with a heavy pout which made him regret speaking the fact out loud. “Really? Is it only if I go outside? I’m not allowed out though…”
“Sorry,” he said apologetically. “I once was stuck inside recovering from a really bad virus and used to sit by the window every day until my father, who is a scientist, told me otherwise.”
Peering at his badge, she nodded. “I guess it’s now a bit of a like father like son moment then. He broke your heart and now you’re breaking mine, Im Changkyun.”
Changkyun cringed and waved a hand in dismissal. “I really didn’t mean-”
“It’s fine, I’m teasing you. Are you a doctor?”
“No, I work in the lab.”
“Doing what?”
“Running tests on the samples we receive.”
“Like blood tests?” she asked and Changkyun nodded. She then smiled warmly. “Maybe you’ll have come across mine.”
“Maybe.”
“If you can figure out what’s wrong with me, I’d ask you out on a date, you know.”
Changkyun, having taken a sip from the coffee mug, spluttered it everywhere. “Wh-what?!”
“I’m kidding, of course,” she remarked, looking back outside. “The doctors keep saying that monitoring my blood samples will find the answer to why I’m so sick but all that keeps happening is-”
“Y/N!” a voice called out and Changkyun let go of the mug he was holding, gaping at the patient now being fussed over by a distraught relative, the wheelchair she was sitting in now being wheeled away.
Your wheelchair.
It was you, the person he had been staring at under a microscope all morning long. Well, your blood sample at least. He couldn’t believe that the mystery in the lab had appeared in front of him right now. It was his first time meeting a patient in the flesh like this.
“Wait!” he called out fruitlessly and you turned back, shifting around to grin at him.
“I hope you can find what’s wrong with me, Mr Technician! If you do, I’ll go on a date with you!”
Glancing down at the coffee starting to run off the side of the table and then at your departure, he groaned, reaching out for a stack of napkins to clean up his mess.
Changkyun was hopeful this wouldn’t be the last time he saw you outside of the laboratory.
His daily trips for the rest of the week to the cafeteria didn’t bring you back into his presence. Your samples hadn’t been as regular as before and when you did turn up in his batches on Thursday, he smiled when he saw he had predicted right. Your iron and blood levels had rapidly increased, indicating you had received transfusions of both. You would no doubt be feeling a bit better after receiving the treatment, though he couldn’t be sure since you hadn’t returned to the cafeteria since that day. Had his pointing out about the sun having no effect stopped you? Or was it the relative who acted as if you were too fragile to be around others that had prohibited your return?
It was strange. He had never found himself so interested in another human before like this. You weren’t someone who matched his typical type in women, but Changkyun couldn’t deny you captivated him either.
Was it the added bonus that he had seen what your cells looked like up close? Shuddering with the rather creepy thought, Changkyun tried to forget about you. He knew he couldn’t, though. He was too invested in helping find a reason for your illness, as a professional of course.
“It’s not because of the date offer,” he mumbled to himself, ears growing hot despite his outspoken stance.
Though, he wondered if you actually had meant it since you mentioned it twice.
Another two weeks went by and by that time, your samples were almost back to how they had been before the transfusions. The doctors hadn’t figured out anything, he concluded. And every time he ran the automated analyser or looked at a sample on a slide, Changkyun couldn’t figure what was causing your cells to be abnormal. Even after talking with a pathologist for better understanding, there was little to go on aside from having a type of anaemia. But even the more experienced people couldn’t decide on which type it was.
You were a mystery to everyone.
And strangely, he missed you.
“I know you’ve worked extra today, but reckon you could go pick up some samples for me? Dora fell down a set of stairs an hour ago and is in orthopaedics so can’t collect the samples from wards fifteen and sixteen that we need to test tonight.”
Changkyun nodded at Bora. “I can do that.”
“Good, after you fetch them you can go home.”
“How kind of you to let me go like that,” he cheekily replied and Bora laughed.
“Well, I could make you stay on even longer and-”
“Ten hours is enough!” he chimed, diving to door to the department. “I’ll get the samples and then get out of here.”
“Less talk, more movement, Changkyun!”
He chuckled as he headed to the elevators in the lobby to take up to the floor needed. He thanked the nurse after retrieving the samples from ward sixteen, heading across the foyer to the opposite ward. Whistling softly as he walked to the nurse’s station, Changkyun glanced lazily around the ward, skidding to a stop when he noticed your name on the wall. Blinking rapidly, he went towards the door when a nurse caught his attention.
“Are you here to collect the samples?”
“Uh, yeah,” he distractedly answered, smiling weakly. Tearing his eyes reluctantly from your door, he followed the nurse to her station and waited for the package. Changkyun went to walk off, only retracing his steps back to the nurse. “Is room three allowed visitors?”
“Miss L/N?” she spoke and he nodded. “She has restricted access at the moment due to a family request.”
“Ah, that answers that then,” he murmured and then smiled back at the nurse. Thanking her, he then headed back down the hallway, his feet dragging outside your door. He craned his neck as if that would gain him better access to seeing you again. Your blinds were shut and only a small window in the door allowed him a brief look into your space. Sighing, he began to move again when he spotted you coming back into the wardroom.
You were walking this time, albeit with the help of an IV stand. You grinned. “Well if it isn’t Mr Technician.”
“Changkyun,” he corrected awkwardly and clamped his eyes shut. “I mean, please call me Changkyun.”
“Are we one a first name basis now?” you wondered with an animated smile. “I guess you already know mine. Sorry about the other week. My Aunt is a bit over the top. I’m all the family she has left so me being sick has sent her into a perpetual meltdown.”
“It’s fine, though I did wonder if you went in search of other places around the hospital for vitamin D.”
“Do you know, they’re supplementing it through this bad boy to me,” you mentioned, patting the IV machine. “Along with a multitude of other things.”
“Still no definite answer to what’s going on?” he asked and you gave him a wry smile.
“That would be too easy, now wouldn’t it? Every day they propose something else, and then take it back. I wonder how hard medical school must be if they can’t seem to collectively come up with an answer.”
“I don’t blame you for being frustrated.”
You shrugged and then pointed at him. “What about you? How’re my samples looking?”
“I’m struggling to figure out the abnormally. My whole team has looked at it and have suggested a few things but equally can’t come to a conclusion.”
You giggled. “I feel so exposed. Everyone gets a look at me under a microscope except me.”
“Maybe one day you could too,” Changkyun blurted out without much thought, scrunching his face up in realisation. “Uh, I mean not many people would-”
“Can I? Would I be allowed to?!” you wondered, stepping closer to him with a bright expression. You seemed hopeful and who was he to knock you down for that. Changkyun was nodding before he even realised it.
“Sure. I’ll make sure you can.”
You grinned, patting his arm as you passed him to go towards your room. “Sounds like it’s a date.”
It took a lot of convincing and doing the dirty jobs around the lab for an entire week before Bora agreed to let you look at your own blood sample. Bora gave Changkyun a pointed look. “You’re invested in this case, you know.”
“I know.”
“Did you seek the patient out first or-”
“We met by chance, I swear. I’m not going to go against professional conduct and privacy clauses. Further, if you hadn’t of sent me to go retrieve those samples-”
“Okay, blame me, it’s my fault!” she concluded with a shake of her head, a loose grin spreading out her lips. “You’re lucky I’m a hopeless romantic, Changkyun.”
“Wait, I wasn’t, I’m not…” Flustered with his supervisor’s reaction to his request, he fanned a hand at his face, trying to express that it wasn’t anything like that. Bora didn’t buy it and when Changkyun went to collect you for the scheduled visit, he felt hot under his collar.
Why was his good deed being taken as anything more than that?
However, when he reached your room, he stopped in the doorway, finding you out of your pyjamas and in a floral dress instead. You spun around, carefree.
“What are-- I mean… Woah.”
“Thank you,” you said with a broad smile. “I hoped you’d like it.”
“Why did you get dressed up?” he asked hastily, glancing down at his usual work attire and lab coat.
You giggled. “You look handsome for our date too.”
“Oh, this isn’t a date.”
“Didn’t you offer me to come with you to the lab?”
“Yes, but-”
“And didn’t I agree and say it’s a date?”
He nodded quickly. “You keep joking around with that and-”
“Hospital life is boring, let me enjoy experiences like this, hm?” you pleaded and Changkyun bit at his bottom lip before nodding again, holding out his arm for you to take. You were delighted by his chivalry and swooped in around it, clasping his lower arm gently. And you practically skipped at his side all the way to the lab.
You were gracious during the visit. You complimented his team and made them smile, everyone becoming more comfortable with the idea of a patient in the lab. You asked questions and Bora was in her element answering them for you. You were engrossed by the process of their work and by the time Changkyun took you to the back office where he had set up a microscope for today out of the way from the rest of his team, you were buzzing.
“This is amazing. You do so much here!” you breathed, taking a seat next to him in awe. “I’ll never complain about getting another blood test taken again.”
Changkyun looked at your bruised skin around the underside of an elbow and instinctively reached out to run his fingers over it. “You’ve had so many.”
“Those aren’t even the places they get it from me right now,” you lamented, patting his hand gently all the same. “I’m okay if it means I’m helping you all find whatever it is you can in my samples to help me get better.”
“Speaking of samples, should we look at yours now?” he asked after a visible swallow, reaching forward to the equipment and turning it on. He looked through the ocular lens and fiddled with the machine until he was satisfied with the setup. Changkyun then gestured for you to take a look.
You turned timid as you did so, quietly staring into it.
“This is your most recent sample,” he told you and you didn’t answer. Feeling more confident than you in the situation, Changkyun expertly changed settings of the magnification for you and then took the slide out and replaced it with another. “This is a healthy blood sample. Can you see the difference?”
“Kind of. Can you swap them a couple of times so I can get a better understanding?” you asked quietly and he did that for you, hearing you sigh when you were looking at your own again. “So this is why I’m sick?”
“It indicates you have an abnormal cell structure right now, yeah.”
Lifting your eyes from the lens, you glanced curiously at Changkyun. “Are you allowed to show me the other blood sample like this? I mean, I get seeing mine, but another patient-”
“It’s mine,” he confessed with a short laugh. “So you don’t have to worry about any privacy clause.”
“You drew your own blood just to show me this sample?”
“Well, it made sense to have a second slide. In experiments, we always have a control slide when presenting variables and-”
Your lips cut off his explanation then, pressing softly into his. Before he could truly register that you had kissed him, you pulled away, covering your mouth with a hand.
“I uh, I was touched, that’s all,” you quickly told him, turning away from him to recover. Changkyun cleared his throat noisily and then stood up.
“Is there a reason why you’re not allowed to go outside?”
Frowning at his random question, you nodded. “Too many people are out there.”
“Tomorrow at lunchtime, don’t make plans,” he announced and you eyed him carefully. Changkyun, emboldened with your kiss, smiled warmly at you. “I know where you can get direct sunlight without anyone bothering you.”
Admittedly, it had taken Changkyun all this time to find a place where you could access the sun without technically leaving the hospital grounds or leaning out a window to do so. He hadn’t at first understood why he started searching, ruling it down to his logical side needing to find an answer to the question proposed in his mind. But as he helped you up the final metal stairs to the rooftop, Changkyun knew the reason he had searched for this was because he liked you.
A whole lot.
“Wow,” you breathed at the view when you came to a stop at his side, squinting under the bright midday sun. “It’s beautiful up here.”
“I checked with your doctor and also with some medical studies and its safe for twenty minutes for us to just sit here and soak in the sun,” he said and you grinned, going over to the bench on the rooftop and sat down.
You then removed your cardigan and offered your arms out to the light. “Heavenly.”
“I thought you might like this.”
“I should have kissed you sooner if it would lead to this,” you teased as he sat down beside you. “I also have a regret from yesterday’s visit.”
“You do?”
Nodding, you scooted around and promptly laid your head in his lap, dangling your arms and legs out to the warmth from above. You peeked through an eye at his evident surprise from your move and giggled. “You blocked the sun from that side.”
“Oh, so this is merely strategic?”
“And more comfortable,” you admitted, nestling into his thigh some.
Changkyun smiled. “What was your regret?”
“You’ll think I’m mad.”
“Well, you’re certainly not normal,” he quipped and you whined outlandishly. Chuckling, he found himself brushing your hair away from your face so the sun could reach that too. You stilled, looking up at him.
“I like you.”
“I like you too,” he admitted with a shy smile, your own splitting your lips until you were grinning giddily.
“Would you like me even if I wasn’t sick? I’m sure as a medical professional you probably find what you see under the microscope more fascinating than my actual form but-”
“No, it’s not like that at all,” he cut in, still smoothing your hair back from your face. “I like you. Not your illness, not what I see from my work. I can’t deny that I’m invested in seeing the changes to your tests, but that’s just because I saw them before I met you in person. I was invested before I found you trying to soak in sun through a window.”
“Don’t remind me of that embarrassing moment,” you exclaimed, mortified. Throwing a hand over your face to hide your emotions, Changkyun pried it away and held it instead. Your expression evened out and you started to smile again. “You knew my name before you knew me. And you knew a lot more too, I guess.”
“I’d rather get to know you like this though.”
“Me too.”
You sat up suddenly, almost bashing into Changkyun’s chin in the process. Sheepishly flashing him an apologetic smile, you held up your index finger. “That’s right, the regret!”
“You mean not telling me how you felt yesterday wasn’t the regret?”
“I’m pretty sure when I kissed you, it showed you,” you countered and Changkyun rubbed at his neck with his other hand awkwardly. You then looked at him and grinned. “I wanted to wear that!”
“What?”
“Your lab coat!” you explained, tugging at the sleeve of it. “I was in the lab and I didn’t once put one on!”
“Well, you looked so pretty in your dress, why cover it up?”
“Because! Oh, you won’t understand because playing dress-up as a doctor isn’t fun like it is for everyone else who isn’t in the health sector professionally.”
“I’m not a doctor,” he reminded and you rolled your eyes.
“Still, you get to wear a white coat of importance! Let me try it on now.”
“What about the sun?” he asked and you stood up, bouncing around impatiently, almost pulling it off of him when he shrugged it down his shoulders. Slipping it on, you giggled triumphantly and spun around in it. Of course, it was too big and made your child-like request even more obvious. He laughed heartily then, the magic of the moment making his heart soar further for you.
You were right. For him, the lab coat was simply part of his work attire, nothing more. He saw no joy or importance in wearing it since he did so every workday. However, watching you enjoy it made it feel special.
Until you stumbled in your excitement, reaching for your head as you continued to lose your balance. Changkyun lurched towards you, catching you before the ground did. “Y/N, are you okay?”
“Just a little dizzy. I guess I went too far.”
“Let’s get you back to your room and get a nurse check your stats, hm?” he offered and you didn’t argue, leaning into his side as he helped you back down the stairs. Once back in your ward, you slipped off his coat and climbed under the blankets, smiling weakly.
The transformation bothered him. Upstairs you were carefree and empowered. Now back under your stark white sheets, you looked weak and tiny. Changkyun blinked back his emotions.
You smiled sadly. “Looks like reality came back for us. Go do amazing things, Changkyun. You’re the one with the power to do so. I’m back where I belong now too.”
He was determined to find a way to make you better again.
“I’ve got it!”
“You have?!” Bora asked immediately, scooting backwards to his station and taking a look at his findings. She grinned. “You bloody have too.”
“Pathology needs to get onto this right away and then the doctors will act upon it, right?” he asked, hope building within his chest. She nodded once and he sent the files through to the team, marching out of the department and over to pathology to follow up.
It hadn’t been easy, and after being in the hospital for over three months now, Changkyun wished he had been able to source the correct abnormality in your tests faster. However, the main thing was they had a definite answer now. You had an autoimmune disease that had triggered the mysterious illness. And whilst knowing that didn’t mean you would get better and be healthier than before, it did give answers. And answers could lead to the right medication to support your health to improve and to help you live with your condition.
Answers meant discharging once better as well.
You stood in the doorway of the department, grinning brightly at Bora who welcomed you in. Changkyun hadn’t seen you yet, still focused on his work. But he stirred as soon as he heard your voice.
“Sorry to interrupt,” you said, looking around the department until you caught his gaze. You slowly grinned. “I just happened to be discharged today and I need to thank the technician who found the answer for my diagnosis.”
He didn’t care about the rest of his team jeering at him right now, getting up from his seat and approaching you. Of course, you already knew of his findings since your treatment began three weeks ago. However, you attempted to keep a straight face as Changkyun stopped in front of you.
“You see, when I was terribly sick, I ran into a lab technician who I told I’d go on a date with him if he helped me get better. I’m here to collect on that date.”
“I thought you were joking,” he murmured and you grinned.
“Oh no, if anything, I asked for the date because you were handsome, not holding onto any hope that you would actually help find the reason for my illness.” You wrapped your arms around his neck and Changkyun walked you out into the hallway, closing the door and the deafening noise out behind him.
He leaned in closer. “Well, I guess I do deserve a reward for my hard work.”
“When can you leave?”
“I think I have some extra hours up my sleeve that I can use to leave work now.”
“Oh good because I want to go on a very long date with you.”
“How long?”
“How much time can you give me?”
Changkyun’s lips were so close to yours now, he merely hummed and you shivered with delight. “How about as long as you want.”
“I’ll be greedy, you know. I’ll want all of your time.”
“I have to work,” he mentioned sadly and you nodded.
“And I have a lot of therapy to attend.”
“But outside of those hours?” he wondered and you pressed into him, kissing him with demand.
It wasn’t his first or even his second kiss with you. And Changkyun knew it wouldn’t be his last either. However, it was one he knew he’d remember forever, the way you tasted so sweet from pure happiness to be leaving the hospital and with him as well.
Finally, you stepped back just enough to catch your breath and answered. “Outside of work and therapy, I hope you can give me all your time. I don’t want to stop repaying you for the rest of my life.”
“Can I ask a question?” he breathed and you nodded. “Did you really mean it about wanting to date me from the first day you saw me?”
“Now that would be telling.”
“So it was a joke!” he whined and you giggled, stepping up on your toes to kiss him again.
“No, I did think you were handsome. I just didn’t believe I’d get this lucky. A cure and a boyfriend. What more could a girl ask for?”
Lisa Tepes is dead.
Your mother, is dead.
Killed, burned alive. Gone to ashes.
All because the church had believed she was a witch of sorts. Several thoughts dance in the back of your mind as you gaze upon the pyre. Smoldering from the heat, the flames gone. Your father leaving his message, no, his warning, that he would act in one year.
“A farce that was!” You hear a shout, and you force down the bitter laugh, throat tight and eyes burning. Especially so when you slowly begin to hear continued shouts of agreement, from voices previously silent.
Here your mother was, her final resting place. Burned to ashes for some sick show of power.
And you could do nothing as she was mocked for it.
Your fist clenched at your side, you feel your nails cutting into your skin, but you walk away to return home.
And to say that the castle was no less better was an understatement. Your father was most likely in his quarters.
And when you finally sit down, the weight of your weary finally settling against your soul, do you allow yourself cry. Quiet tears turning to sobs as you muffle your voice with a pillow.
You had failed her. Missing the chance to save your mother, too late to have done anything.
But you pause, noticing the presence at your door, your brothers familiar knocking pattern resounding suddenly through the empty hall.
“Come in,” Your voice is embarrassingly raspy. As you clear your throat, wiping your eyes with the back of your hand. But it wouldn’t hide the redness of your eyes.
Adrian says nothing, and a part of you wishes he did. His larger hand takes yours. A comforting squeeze.
You blink again feeling your eyes burn, and you squeeze his hand back.
“Father is...” He trails off, no doubt thinking of what he could say next.
“What he plans on doing, it’s not justice.”
You stare up at him, But it would be deserving. A bitter corner of your mind supplies.
While Adrian had taken after Mother in his demeanor, much more kinder, more welcoming. You were no doubt like Father. Reserved, distrusting, easily prone to grudges if you were wronged in some way.
But you bite your tongue.
“He gave them a year,” You murmur after some time, “But no doubt he’s ready to calling his armies.”
At this Adrian turns alarmed. the warmth from his hand slips away.
“We must stop him!”
You’re still reeling from the events from earlier today, and a part of you wishes to have no part in his attempt to try and stop your father. But then you remember your mother.
Her kindness, regardless of how she was viewed for being different.
And your warily stand anyway.
If only you had more sense. Your father remains eerily silent as he embraces you both. His hold tighter, and while Adrian seemed convinced, you saw the dark look in his eyes.
The year had passed. You weren’t surprised to hear of the bloodshed.
It was naive to expect otherwise. While reluctantly following your brother, you can only stand, frozen as your blood feels like ice in your veins as your remaining family clashes.
“No.” Your voice is barely a whisper.
They don’t hear you.
Glass shatters.
And foolishly enough, you rush forward.
-
With your brother injured and fleeing, and you yourself were not free from any sort of pain.
Stepping in between the two as they fought ended with a gnarly gash on your shoulder, as you fell to your knees and blood slipping past your fingers. Your father stands in front of you, like a protective pillar as your brother stares in shock, quickly wanting to help you in some way.
And then the fight is over. Your brother is gone too.
The castle is much larger and colder now.
As you’re confined to your room, the wound healing into an angry red, then to a muted and dull scar. For a moment you wished it took longer, your father guilty and you were reminded of times you had been sick when you were younger. While you had not been too keen on the typical children’s books, reading theory on physics and other sciences only seemed fun when he would read to you and you’d ask questions in between passages. (Your voice funny from a stuffy nose led to laughter and a small coughing fit but otherwise it was nice).
But now was not the time to reminisce on the happy childhood.
You know you cannot stay. Ultimately, Adrian had been right. Once you feel as though you can move your arm once again, slowly, you begin pack a small bag. You didn’t want to build up any suspicions, finding some money in your room and whenever you could take a few coins or so from your father that he would not miss.
Extra clothes were folded and put away separately.
And you make your escape on a rainy evening, the uneven droplets helping hide your tracks. But you knew now that your father had brought back Hector and Isaac, new generals to help fight in his war, you had to be weary of the night creatures that would no doubt be sent after you.
Well, you were creative. At times flying in a transformed look, no one would suspect a bat in the dark of night afterall. And it was easier to. find good vantage points that way. But to also avoid any people, you didn’t quite trust yourself to not get into an altercation with a bigot.
You rarely slept longer than necessary, especially not when those dreams were memories or nightmares.
Now that you had learned how to walk, you were a right menace. It was an uphill battle in itself to keep you in one place. You were curious and the world you knew (being your father’s vast castle) was huge. Your childlike curiosity was never let down by your adventures.
You laugh quietly, which sounds like small squeaks as you fly up and hide above the gaudy chandeliers. Your father, giant coat gone, hair tied back and in a plain dress shirt and slacks as he searched for a curious toddler.
Snickers continuing as he paces down the hall. You hop down, landing slowly and feet planting into the ground, knees bent. Before you had down the opposite direction.
The lab usually wasn’t a place you could be allowed in on your own. But having heard that your mother was there, you knew it wouldn’t be a problem! So your little legs carried you along. Until you found the familiar doorway.
Dozens of tubes and mechanisms had you turning your head as you wandered in, your shoes tapping against the marble floor.
“Now what brings you here, sweetling?” The warmth of your mother’s voice has you smiling before you see her. As you run forward and hug her side, clutching her dress in your small fists. “Not causing trouble for your father are you?”
You shake your head grin betraying your word, “Nope! I’m not doing any trouble!”
“And how since when did that happen?” She laughs gently.
“Now.”
Your brother looks up from his own books, waving before returning to work. Your nose crinkles, so much for playing experimenting. But before you can say much, your nearly yelp as you’re brought up into the air by a pair of strong arms.
“I’ve found you, little wanderer.” Your father’s voice carries no heat behind it. Then again, he was always soft hearted for you and your brother. But most of all, your mother.
“I’m not little!” You pout, “I’m big now!”
-
You’re taken away from your reverie at the snap of a twig.
With your lack of sleep, as you had insisted on traveling more, you were less than surprised to have been snuck up on.
“Peace, my friend,” The old man murmurs. You keep your knife in an iron grip in front of you. Who you’re guessing is his son or grandson, has his hands raised the same way, but no weapon to be seen, magic, oh good. Then again, not like you needed a knife when you could make your nails go into claws and the fangs. Don’t forget the fangs.
“I can’t exactly be peaceful when it’s the middle of the night and suddenly figures in blue robes appear out of now where,” You answer dryly. But seeing as how the others behind the main two have not done or said anything noteworthy, nor were their stances make them look like they could really fight, you lower your weapon slightly.
Clearing your throat, “Although, I shouldn’t be swinging my own weapon around either.”
The old man just smiles gently. And you can’t help but be just slightly comforted.
In the end, the speakers stop for the evening. And the Elder, despite looking like a frail old man, is firm in his decision that you stay and “eat properly.” And like a scolded child, you listen. Food and drink all but pushed into your hands as you’re quickly brought into conversation, the previous confrontation all but forgotten.
And then you perk up when he mentions Gresit.
“So... the sleeping soldier,” You begin, slowly chewing on the sweet bread you had been given. “It was true?”
The Elder nods, “My grandchild and a traveller, they had gone to explore it. Well, the traveller had gone to save my grandchild. I will not hide the fact that I was a bit doubtful. But Belmont had proved himself a man of his word. Although, he does need to drink more water.”
You blink, a look of a surprise clear on your face. Belmont...
Fuck.
“Although I hadn’t expected the legend of the sleeping soldier to be realized so quickly.”
At your inquisitive look, the Elder begins to explain. Of a holy warrior beneath Gresit, who would come to save it’s people in their most dire of hours.
“The pair had come up with a man with long hair, like gold.” You couldn’t help but let out the breath you had been holding. So the Belmont didn’t try to kill him. you could breathe a little easier at that fact.
“Where are they now?” You ask, holding the empty cup in your hands, as you stare down as though waiting for something.
Getting your answer, you stand, adjusting your bag over your shoulders. You wave off the concern in staying, if it had already been several days since the Speakers had left Gresit, then you needed to cover a lot of land to get to your brother.
That is, until you saw the expression on the Elder’s face grow stern, as though he was scolding a child. With a heavier bag, one that the Elder insisted that you take some more things you could eat along the way, in exchange you give the Elder a small trinket you had been using to hide from the monsters of your father’s army, you finally set off. While your worries were not completely settled, your shoulders felt lighter. Metaphorically of course.
Of course, giving away the object that kept you hidden made it a bit more, difficult, when it came to trying to hide and travel at night. Much less even try to stop and rest.
It had barely been two days since you had left the speakers, and already, you had run into some trouble, a beastly creature’s claws barely caught on your sleeve, leaving your arm bare as you shuddered from the chill in the air. You can only sigh mournfully, you really liked that coat. But, better your sleeve than say, you actually getting wounded.
Your nails resemble claws, while your free hand holds the dagger in a steady grip. But being surrounded on all sides, it did not look promising.
Well, you thought mournfully, if you died you could at least see your mother again.
Until you hear the sound of what reminds you of a whistle? And then a sword flying through the air, slicing through the night creatures, giving you a chance to get some distance.
You hear the surprised shout of your name, and look up, to see your brother wide eyed, sword now returned to him, and a man and woman standing at his side.
“Um... hi.”
-
Much to your relief, the night creatures are easily taken care of.
And as you’re finally able to explain your story, you find yourself relaxing into the extra cloak given to you by the Elder.
“You mean you met the Speakers on your journey?!” A woman, petite with short blonde locks, who you learn is named Sypha, asks, and you notice the way her shoulders sag in relief.
You nod, “Yes. They all were safe.” If her shoulders sagged anymore she’d full on be slouching. You leave out the part of leaving a possibly precious trinket with them, not wanting her to think you cursed them or something.
“So you mean to tell me, Dracula, fucking Dracula, had more than one kid? That he actually had a woman not only give him not just one, but two children?” Is incredulously asked next by the scruffy looking man. Trevor, as your brother says.
You only stare in annoyance, sure your father was about to raise an army to annihilate the human populace but he didn’t used to be that way.
Before you can retort with a scathing remark of your own, Sypha elbows him harshly in the side. And you know it hurts from the way he immediately puts a hand where she hit him, eyes widening slightly. Serves him right.
“And what of...” Adrian- no Alucard as he wishes to be called, asks, near hesitant.
“Father?” You ask, arms crossed, “Same old same old. Planning the same amount of destruction here or there.”
As he looks to the snow covered earth, you roll your eyes, “Did you expect anything different?”
It’s quiet, and neither Sypha nor Trevor speak.
“No.”
You all sat around camp quietly for a while after that.
-
Your lungs feel like they’re being constricted. Your throat burns as you struggle to breathe, claws digging into your skin like knives. Before you’re thrown backwards, landing harshly against the wall. Books fall from the book case and your weapon clatters noisily from the ground.
You take shallow breaths, barely standing before you’re thrown once more. Curse your father’s stature and supernatural strength. You close your eyes, waiting for another attack and at least hoping to brace yourself for it, but it never came.
Instead, your brother stands in front of you, as he and your father remain in a standstill. Sypha and Trevor’s footsteps are rushing towards you three.
It all continues to move so fast, until he stops noticing the painting of your mother, as she had been holding your brother and then you as a baby, and the next thing you know, your father is staked through the heart. And with wobbly legs, you take your sword, and swing. So falls Dracula. But it felt like no victory.
You sit up with an alarmed look, stopping yourself from shouting.
That was... a dream? You rub your eyes, feeling that your cheeks are wet and you sigh.
When you see a shadow looming over you, the light of the fire giving slight visibility, you freeze. Before noticing it’s your brother and not his companions.
“Sorry,” You say, making sure to not look at him, so that he didn’t see your tears.
Quietly, he places his coat over your shoulders, sitting beside you, wrapping his own blanket loosely around his own shoulders. “You have nothing to apologize for.”
You only grip the jacket lapels tighter, shaking slightly as you hiccup, unable to stop yourself from crying again.
He must think it’s because you miss your mother, and you do. But this dream was far different. And you say nothing as he brings you into his arms. Your tears having long since dried when the sun rises moments later. But you find yourself falling asleep as your brother rubs soothing circles on your back, feeling the build up exhaustion finally leaving you.
When you’re awake much later in the day you can’t help but laugh a little when Sypha scolds your brother for being mean enough to make you cry, he didn’t you assure her quick enough, although you’re back to laughing when she then turns around to scold Belmont when he makes another slight comment.
Prologue
Chapter 1 here we go!!!
That same face swam before you. The kind looking little boy, just a year or two older than you, with soft brown eyes and auburn hair. His face stuck out, but there were glimpses of other things around you. A parade. Dancers. And then chaos. He was always in a crowd. At least until the last hazy memory. The clearest sight of him as you focused on his features instead of the searing pain in your shoulder and abdomen.
You sat up, pushing the image to the back of your mind. He had to be a dream. You had never been to a ball or a parade, anyway. At least, not as far as you could remember. And you couldn’t remember much before the day you came here, to the orphanage.
Now that you were an adult, you worked there, but you’d been a resident from the time you were eight or so. Having no memory of who you were before then meant you had no idea when your exact birthday was. A doctor examined you and diagnosed you with amnesia due to a traumatic head injury, and guessed your age based on your development. The women at the orphanage had chosen the day you arrived to be your birthday - not that it meant any celebrations, but so that they had something for the record.
You tried to remember your past. Especially as a child. You were visited by doctors and specialists, but no one could trigger anything that brought something significant back. All you knew was that you had been wounded, a kind boy brought you to the hospital, and from there you went to the orphanage. You couldn’t even remember what your parents looked like.
There was only one clue as to who you were that was found among your belongings. A necklace. It was a fine, gold chain, at the end of which was a pendant, with jewels creating the shape of a flower. On the back was an inscription that read “Together in Ramimont.”
You found out that Ramimont was the capital city of a country to the south. Why you would have family there was beyond you. But someone had given it to you, and whoever that person was must have loved you. Who else would give such a sentimental trinket?
With a sigh, you stretched and got out of bed. You padded over to the chair in the corner of your room and stepped into the dress you wore every day. There was an almost exact copy of it hanging in the wardrobe next to your coat. The choices at the orphanage were limited - so you’d taken whatever fabric you could to make your dresses. Old curtains mostly. And while they weren’t fashionable, they certainly kept you warm.
Stuffing your feet into your boots, you left your room and headed downstairs. Sophie, the headmistress of the orphanage was waiting for you. Your brow furrowed. That was unusual.
“Is everything alright, Sophie?” you asked her, coming to a stop.
She wrung her hands and looked desperately at you.
“Come with me, Y/N,” she said. “I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.”
Heart rate quickening, you followed her into her office on the main floor. Upstairs, you heard the children beginning to rise and dress. You hoped whatever this was wouldn’t hurt them too much.
Sophie closed the door behind you and gestured to the old dining chair that faced her desk. You took a seat right on the edge. She moved the newspaper out of the way and you caught a glimpse of the headline: RUMORS OF THE PRINCESS… but you couldn’t see the second half. It didn’t concern you anyway. This country had no royalty. Not since the Revolution.
“Y/N, I’m terribly sorry about this, but we’re going to have to let you go,” she said.
Your stomach dropped. You were...sacked?
“I…” you trailed off, searching for the right words. “What? Did I do something wrong?”
She shook her head. “No, dear. It’s just that the city has cut funds for this place, and now I can only afford to pay myself and George.”
George was in charge of the boys at the orphanage. He answered to Sophie at the end of the day, though.
You took in a shaky breath. Fear made your blood feel cold as ice.
“W-what am I going to do?” you wondered.
It was half to yourself, half to her. This place was the only life you had ever known.
“I’ve arranged for you to get a job as a street sweeper for one of the hotels nearby,” she said. “I’m afraid they can’t pay you as much as we did, but you’ll have a roof over your head.”
You swallowed even though your mouth felt dry. You barely made enough to live with your current salary. How could you survive on less?
“There is something else you could do,” she said, lowering her voice.
You scooted closer to hear, eager. “What?”
“Go to Ramimont,” she whispered.
The government was very strict about travel, so you understood her secretive actions. To discuss leaving could be considered treason, so not even George could overhear.
“What?” you gasped softly. “You really think I should?”
“It’s up to you,” she replied. “But if you’ve got some money saved, I think it would be the perfect opportunity.”
“But I don’t even know who I’m looking for,” you said. “How can I -”
“Whoever gave you that necklace is probably missing you just as much as you’re longing for them,” she said. “But going is your only chance of finding them.”
You sat back, considering the idea. You had always wanted to go. And you did have a bit of money saved. Only, you had no idea what was required of you. If you had to get some sort of papers, what could you provide? You had no evidence of your identity.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start,” you said aloud.
“I don’t really know, either,” Sophie admitted. “But the knowledge is not behind the walls of this building. You’ll have to move on first.”
Tears welled up in your eyes. “I’m going to miss you.”
Her eyes were equally watery. “Oh, dear. I’m going to miss you too.”
You jumped to your feet, crossed around her desk, and hugged her. She sniffled and patted your back. And before you knew it, it was time to pack your bags.
***
Joe read over the words again. RUMORS OF THE PRINCESS ANASTASIA ALIVE. Beneath the headline was a photo of the princess - the rest of her family cropped out so it was just her proud face. He could never forget that girl. And the horror he witnessed that day. There was no way she was alive.
He re-focused and started to read the article. It mentioned that there was a reward offered by the girl’s grandmother, the Dowager Empress Marie Malek Lee. His eyes widened at the number. That much money meant the kind of freedom he had longed for all his life!
The wheels in his head began turning. If anyone had a chance at that money it was him. He had worked in the kitchen, he had met the family. And then there was the music box. He had more proof than any other person could hope to provide. Plus, he had Roman.
As if summoned by the mere thought of him, Roman came through the door. He shook some snow off his jacket and hung it on the rack. Joe looked up and smiled.
“Morning,” he said. “How was town?”
“Ugh,” Roman groaned. “Everyone’s all aflutter about this rumor regarding the princess. It’s clearly a distraction!”
Joe raised an eyebrow. “A distraction? From what?”
“They closed another border today,” Roman said gravely. “They’re shutting us in, Joe. We need to get out if we’re going to do it.”
Joe paused. Another border closure was definitely concerning. And it meant difficulty in their plan. But Joe’s new plan meant getting out with the addition of money. He would have no qualms splitting any earnings with Roman, who had become his closest friend.
Roman was only about ten years old than Joe, but with a whole different experience. Being the scandalous love child of an earl, most would have thought his life difficult. It was in some respects, but astonishingly, Roman’s father welcomed his son with open arms, and tried to make him part of society. The mother being a prostitute made some members of the nobility scoff, but when King Nicholas himself accepted Roman, the rest of that class had to suck it up.
That is, until the Revolution came. The earl packed up his family, and had to pay for each of their exit visas. In their rush, Roman was left behind. He was the forgotten son, after all.
Roman got his revenge. He went to his father’s mansion and completely ransacked it. He took all the valuables left behind - jewels, furs, antiques, etc. - and sold them. He kept one thing, a diamond ring that belonged to his father’s wife, and he gave it to his mother. She didn’t live much longer, but Roman still had it.
“I was thinking about this whole Princess Anastasia thing,” Joe said.
Roman rolled his eyes. “Not you too! I thought you had some sense!”
“Hear me out,” Joe insisted. “Between the two of us, we could train any girl to be that princess. We just gotta find someone who looks enough like her.”
“Are you serious?” Roman returned. “You want to con the Dowager Empress?”
“What’s she ever done for either of us?” Joe pointed out. “Why shouldn’t we get something out of our knowledge?”
Roman paused, mulling it over.
“What woman would agree to this?” he said. “We’d have to split the reward money three ways.”
“Believe me, the amount is more than enough to split three ways,” Joe said.
He tossed the paper to Roman, who began reading it over. Concern crossed his handsome, angular features as he read.
“Let’s say we do this,” he said. “How will we find the girl? We can’t exactly put out an ad for people to audition. We’d be shot where we stand.”
“I know some people, I’ll get the word out,” Joe insisted. “Come on, Ro, this is our chance.”
“I think we should just consider ourselves lucky to be able to get out of the country,” Roman replied warily. “Is money really worth all this risk?”
“Money is the most important thing in the world, Roman,” Joe said seriously. “And I don’t intend on being without it anymore.”
“Money has never been the most important thing in the world,” Roman said. “The Lee family had more money they knew what to do with, and they still ended up dead.”
Joe didn’t answer that. He was all too familiar with that story, though he’d never shared it with his friend.
“Ro, I’m doing this,” he said. “Whether you’re with me or not.”
A beat passed as Roman eyed him, a bit worried. Then he smirked. “You couldn’t pull it off without me anyway.”
Joe beamed. “So you’re in?”
“I’m in,” Roman said.
They shook on it.
“Who knows? Maybe we will find her,” he continued. “If the Dowager is offering a reward, there must be some substance to the rumor.”
A fleeting image passed in the front of Joe’s mind. Bloody snow, a weak girl in his arms, her eyes falling shut as he called to her. He shook his head to clear it away.
“I doubt it,” he said.
With that, he took to the streets, telling his most trusted contacts that he was looking for the lost princess.
***
The snow crunched under your boots as you trudged up to the hotel. You didn’t imagine there were many tourists in the country. What was there to see? The capital was only government workers and poor people. There was the old palace, but it was boarded up. As far as anything else, you had no idea what might draw people here. You noticed that most of the people coming to the hotel were in uniforms of some sort. They must be visitors from around the country. Or even other countries.
You set your bag down and stood across the street from the hotel that was to be your new home. If you took the job. There was also Sophie’s suggestion to consider. The latter was definitely the more frightening option, but if the reward was finding your true family, then it should be worth it...right?
You glanced down at the necklace, thinking it over some more. If you went into that hotel now, you may never get another opportunity to leave. You picked up your bag, determined, and walked away toward the train station. You had to take your chance.
The train station was toward the edge of the city, near the old palace. You could see the towers looming over the land around it. The area was rather deserted, which you found surprising. As you looked at the abandoned fortress, you felt a sort of pull from it. Like you had been there before.
You ignored this feeling and pressed on to the station. You couldn’t be worried about some crumbling castle. You had to get out as soon as possible.
The line for tickets was excruciatingly long. You waited for nearly two hours before you were face to face with the attendant at the booth. He looked impatiently at you.
“Where to?” he asked gruffly.
“One ticket to Ramimont, please,” you said.
“Exit visa and passport?”
“I - uh - well -” you stammered. “I have some money.”
“You can’t purchase a ticket without an exit visa and a passport,” he explained, rolling his eyes. “You may get those documents at the parliament building downtown.”
“How long does that take?” you asked.
“Depends on how much money you have,” he said. “And who you know. But until you have those, get out of my line.”
You started at the harshness of his address, but did as you were told. You felt a tap on your shoulder and turned to face it. It was a woman. She was not really dressed for the cold weather, with her chest that exposed and skirt just under her knee. She also had a heavy rogue on her cheeks.
“If you’re looking to go to Ramimont, you should see Joe Mazzello,” she said quietly.
You stepped closer to her. “Who?”
“Joe Mazzello,” she repeated. “He’s at the old palace. I hear he’s got a ticket, but there is a catch.”
“What’s the catch?” you wondered.
She shrugged. “Dunno. Heard it from a friend. But you might have a better shot with him than with the government.”
“I see,” you said. “Thank you, Miss…”
“You don’t need to know my name,” she said. “You didn’t hear this from me.”
You nodded. After thanking her again, you left the train station. This time, heading for the one place you were avoiding earlier. Perhaps it was fate calling you in. Hopefully, you were meant to meet this Joe person and he would deliver you to your family.
You stopped yourself. You didn’t want to get carried away in a hope.
The castle was a sorry sight. With wooden planks in the windows where glass used to be, dustings of snow being blown in by the wind, and a fully collapsed tower, it looked a bit haunted. And of course, the lack of people added to the eerie feeling. You peered in between the boards and into the darkness. You couldn’t see anything, really.
You picked this window because it was far enough away from the main entrance that you might be able to sneak in without startling anyone. You tested the plank in front of your chest. It was fairly loose - whoever had done this did it quickly and carelessly. You supposed the New Order didn’t want anyone to see the symbol of the old ways as up for grabs.
You tugged on the board. It groaned beneath the force until finally you pried it enough and it came clean off. You stumbled back as the pressure released, but collected yourself and tossed it away. There was enough room for you to get in. You stepped through first and then reached back for your bags. You set them down against the wall, and then looked up and gaped at the high, grand ceilings and plush carpet. Everything was so...regal. And even stranger, it felt familiar to you.
Across the corridor from the window, you saw a dusty, faded painting. It was enormous, and a portrait of a man and his family. He was tall, with soft brown hair and bright blue eyes. Unlike the portraits of men before him, he was smiling. The lady beside him looked equally happy with a wide grin. A silly detail you noticed on her was that the artist had depicted her shoes to be made of glass.
She had a baby on her lap, and three other children surrounded their feet. A gold plate on the frame appeared to have some information etched into it, so you stepped closer to read it. It said, “King Gwilym, his wife, and children.”
You were struck with a pang of sadness. You looked up at King Gwilym’s smiling face and felt such pity that his line was ended. That his descendants had met a tragic end and his legacy was disappearing into time. You had no idea why it broke your heart like this. You didn’t know the man or his relations, and yet, you felt this hurt for him. The only comfort was that wherever they were, they were all together now.
To the left, were more paintings. You guessed, more generations of royals. You walked on and observed them, heartstrings still pulling at their fate. Three paintings over from Gwilym was the final royal family. King Nicholas greatly resembled his great-grandfather Gwilym. He had a wider face, and a thick beard which added to it, but the eyes were exactly the same. Round, blue, and kind.
His wife, Alexandra, was stunning. She wasn’t as warm as her husband, but she had the grace and elegance of a queen, for sure. Similar to King Gwilym’s queen, she had the youngest child in her lap for the portrait. The only boy. On the floor, four girls sat together, holding hands and smiling.
You blinked and a tear slid down your cheek. Hastily, you wiped it away. Why on Earth were you crying? Sure, you knew the royal family’s story was unfortunate, but why was this feeling so personal?
You shook your head and continued on, re-focusing. You needed to find this Joe person, and quickly. This place was overwhelming.
Every part of the palace felt like something you had dreamed and were trying to recall after waking up. It felt fuzzy, but certain things were coming through with perfect clarity. Then you came upon a ballroom.
For a fleeting moment, it was dazzling with light and glittering jewels. Important people waltzed around it, and you spotted King Nicholas amongst the crowd. He spun his daughter around, lifting her high in the air, and you giggled along with her.
As quickly as the vision came, it went. Once again, the room was dull, faded, covered in cobwebs and other debris. You stepped and a plume of dust formed around your boot. You scanned the ballroom and spotted a long table against the wall with serving platters and the like spread out. The silver was tarnished and pieces were missing. Even so, you picked up a tray. You examined it, and wiped the dust away. When it was clear, you looked at your reflection. What you saw startled you.
It was you, but as a little girl, looking remarkably like the youngest of the four in the painting, in a pink silk gown and a tiara sparkling on the crown of your head. You gasped at the sight and dropped the platter. It clanged to the floor and you winced.
“Hey!” cried a voice from the other side of the ballroom.
You whirled around to face him. It was a young man, probably about your age, with auburn hair. His face was familiar to you the same way this palace was, and it frightened you.
“Who are you?” he demanded. “What are you doing here?”
“What’s going on?” another man questioned as he jogged to join the first. You felt as if you’d met him before too.
You didn’t answer either of them. Instead, you took off running back the way you came.
“Hey, wait!” the redhead called, and he pursued you.
Robowhump 5
Continuing that March of robots- whump edition story with @whumptopia ‘s robot whump prompt list. Today was “forced reboot” so here!
TW// self harm, manipulation, non con body modifications, abuse, torture, emotional abuse, burning and cuts mention
(I think it’s time to say, my writing is explicit and so, proceed with caution)
The first time Exia opened its eyes, it saw Ian´s father. A man with gentle black eyes and gray hairs. A programmer like his son and wife. Not as talented as either and certainly not as famous as his wife. He was humble and cared for Exia. It didn´t remember anymore, but it had been him who had given it its name.
“I´m trusting Ian to you, Exia” the man said as it sat Exia on the back of the car. Crossing the car’s seatbelt on its chest, because he didn´t want to put him (because he refered to Exia as him) on a box again. “He´s really good. I´m sure he will make some wonderful upgrades to you” he smiled at the android. There had been hope in his naivety and oblivion to his son´s nature.
Exia had recorded the man´s voice for Ian. “To encourage” him as the man put it.
But after Ian smiled and thanked his father for the gift, waved his hand as goodbye and closed the door. Ian had made Exia lay on a table and erased all previous commands.
Except its name.
Mainly because it would be troublesome to remember any other name.
And so, that was the first reboot Exia had.
The next time happened after Ian tried adding a few lines and had forgotten to put a simple comma. Causing Exia to bump into walls and keep walking as if it was on a videogame.
The third time was when Ian wanted to test Exia´s receptors and blew its hearing.
The fourth time had been purely accidental. Ian hadn´t slept in three days and put his homework code into Exia´s by mistaking the keyboards. The conflicts made Exia´s core to overheat and made it move erratically.
The eigth time Ian´s professor wanted them to test simple commands on androids. Making them lift eggs and the like was too old fashioned, so the challenge was making them handle jelly. Exia made a great demonstration but slipped out Ian had helped the other’s for money. It had been the first time Exia had seen Ian angry at him.
The nineth time, Ian had met Creek and was living with him now. Creek showed him the download sites for the pain emulators. When Ian tied Exia to a chair, the android had done it with a smile. But after the download, it had to be rebooted after many repairments were made. Out of panic mode conflicts that triggered self destruction tendencies and damaged a liquid deposit on Exia´s head. Causing leaks sometimes.
The tenth time, Exia had begged Creek to stop. That it hurt when it installed new body parts when it was fully responsive and the pain emulators were active. Creek had limited to laugh and continue assembling the new parts into Exia. It screamed quite loud, but Creek just turned their headphones volume higher. Tightened Exia´s restraints if it moved too much and ordered it to stop leaking from its eyes without much success. Of course, the leaking wasn´t something he could control now.
By the twelfth time, Ian had developed a back up. So, when they were testing Exia’s skin durability and had it trembling, tied to the working table with a face half burnt, Exia came back with the memories of it being burnt. Just new skin.
It would know what pain was even after rebooting now.
And Exia wasn’t allowed to say anything to Ian’s father. It would smile and say “Im doing my best performance to satisfy Mister Ian. I thank you for your concern” whenever a new patch of cheap skin was glued to a spot Creek had burnt, marked, teared apart or simply removed. “Exia has a lot to learn however” it would say while blinking three times rapidly and then stop for a bit before continuing.
“Im happy to see he’s well!” Ian’s father said to him as he chomped down his food “I like that yellow bang too” he said referring to the strand of hair, both boys had stolen from a broken down robot “Fits you”
“Thank you, sir” Exia replied keeping its blinking rythm.
“´It´, dad.” the boy stressed “It’s a robot, not a person” Ian said slurping on his noodles. The ramen ya they were on was pretty popular at that time. Just before the last few trains went on their way.
“Oh yeah right” the man awkwardly replied. Silence ensued as Exia simply stared at them eat. Wondering…
“What are you..?” The man lifted his eyes as Exia swallowed their beer. “Exia, no!” He stood up quicker than Ian and grabbed the android by the shoulders but it was too late. The liquid leaked to its core and circuits in a second.
The seventeenth time, Exia opened its eyes on a dark place. The closet, it recognized. Battery was running low and its limbs had been taken away.
Oh. It muttered to itself.
Im going to be abandoned.
It leaned its head on the wall. And noticed it had its Clothes taken off as well. Of course, a useless machine like Exia didn’t need to cover itself. Even when Creek had added a member simply to test the receptors and emulators.
Drip…
Blue liquid ran from its eyes. Possibly after-damage of some of their experiments. Or…
Whatever they were they didn’t stop. However they came, fat tears rolled down its cheek.
“E-Exia?” An unfamiliar voice called from outside.
It had been Liam who had taken it outside the closet. Covered it with its own clothes and told it to turn around to plug it to a charging dock.
Exia refused to let Liam touch it.
It was an unwanted machine! It was supposed to run out of batteries and grow forgotten locked away on the closet.
Not…saved.
But it was.
It wasn’t immediately that Exia expected Liam’s visits. Waiting for it to come and tell it about outside and about Ian and Creek. As there was no windows there. Exia learnt Liam was a prototype for their final project. A social service android. Designed to treat mentally unstable people. Exia had laughed.
Liam wasn’t surprised to see the android wiggling like a worm on the floor as it laughed histerically at the irony. Aware it was collateral damage to Exia’s system that allowed it to laugh.
Liam was aware of the pain emulators and one time, when Exia was staring blankly at a wall running a dyagnostic, Liam dropped a furry blanket over it. And hugged it.
“Hugging helps humans feel comfort and not alone after a traumatic event” Liam whispered as Exia stiffened and scuffed.
“Are you implying I should be treated like a human after trauma?” Liam took a moment to reply “I don’t know if that helps to lower your leaking, but I searched in my treatment files that panic modes can be smoothened-“
“Ok, ok I get it” Exia interrupted it. It allowed itself to focus on the warmness of the blanket. Its system would catalogue the cumulus of electric signals it felt at that moment as “comforted”.
Exia did feel like wanting more of that “comfort” thing.
And Liam was designed to do so.
Ian stared at the records of Liam’s trips to the warehouse where Exia was kept, everyday. To monitor improvements and adjust Liam’s protocols.
The young boy didn’t like wasting things and would use them to their last breath. Abandoning Exia? Oh no. He had simply planted the situation for Liam’s development.
Ian allowed Liam to put the androids limbs back on their place one day. Liam attached them despite the colors being not quite right and helped Exia up.
Ian had intricately written Liam’s physical therapy commands and tested them with Exia.
But as Liam proofed to be perfect on treating Exia, Exia was recovering too quickly.
So it was time for a final test.
Oink The Stuffed Pig
WARNINGS: Swearing | Mentions of Sex (a dirty joke or two) |
Pairings: Kim Seokjin x Single Dad!Male Reader
Genre: Parent!au, neighbor!au, some angst (just a lil), fluff, humor
Word Count: 11,838
Summary: Due to complications, M/n moves to a new city with his son. Though struggling, the two grow to like their new lives and new neighborhood, especially Kim Seokjin, their neighbor across the hall who is more than kind.
A/n: IM ALIVEEEE! I suck at endings so like... my bad. I tried to get this out because I know a few of you were excited for this. Turned out a little more angst than I plan but uh... surprise? Again sorry it took me so long to finish it! 💙☀
I sighed and looked out the window as the train I was in, drove down the tracks. I looked at my watch it was around 7 pm and I knew it was going to be a long night. I looked over to my son, he was happily playing a game on an old phone of mine. I let out a sigh as my eyes trailed down to look at our backpacks on the floor.
I’m sorry we have to go this far.
I leaned forward, opening the side pouch of my backpack to take out my phone. I had muted it days ago and didn’t bother to look at it.
I unlocked it and looked through my messages.
Mom: Okay, just be safe, okay? The both of you.
Dad: remember to secure the new home. it will give everyone a piece of mind
.
Unknown Number: you cant just take him! I said I wanted to work this out!
I rolled my eyes at the last one, deciding just to message my parents since we were more within the city.
M/n to Mom: I found a nice little neighborhood, close to his school and there are some good jobs I can get for the time being, just until I save up a bit. We’ll be safe. Don’t worry too much.
M/n to Dad: I had a security system kit sent with some of our stuff. I’m going to go to the store tomorrow to look for tougher screws for the doors. We have a balcony so I have to figure something out! Safety is my second priority!
“Who are you talking to?” I heard my son’s small voice ask.
I looked over to him, his eyes were big, full of curiosity as he lifted himself up in order to look at the screen. I only smiled.
“Your grandparents.” He gave me a small pout.
“Why the pout?” I asked with a sad chuckle, “…Expecting someone else?” I asked dejectedly.
I swore I saw his eyes twinkle, “Aunt Hyejin!” My heart dropped to my stomach.
I tore my eyes away from his, prepping myself to lie, “Ha… Aunt Hyejin… she…” Oh god, what would be a good lie to tell him?
I glanced back at his perfect brown orbs, stabbing into me for an answer.
“A… Aunt Hyejin is not herself right now. So… I can’t talk to her right now, okay?” I wasn’t lying, but it sure in the hell felt like I was.
I could see the sadness enter his eyes, as well as those same eyes water. My eyes widened as I quickly held my hands up as if he were now holding a weapon to me.
“But why?” He asked, his voice sounding very upset.
“Junseok-ah, it’s complicated. BUT you’re going to make new friends and have your own room!” I tried to sway my son.
“I don’t want new friends I want Aunt Hyejin!” He was now crying, I grimaced.
I looked around the empty train car almost frantically, as to search for something to get my son to stop crying. I let out a heavy sigh.
“Listen, Junseok-ah, stop crying. Some people aren’t going to be in your life for the rest of your life. Some people have their own lives to live, some care dearly about you, and some will care only for themselves. It has nothing to do with your personality or who you are as a person. Aunt Hyejin… I have a feeling she only cares for herself right now. And right now, I have to care about you, and you have to care about yourself right now too.” That probably made no sense to him.
Oddly enough my son only nodded his head, using his sleeve to wipe his tears, I offered him a small smile.
“Don’t worry, I got us a place to stay and you have your own room!” Which I have no Idea how I’m going to pay for it.
“We live near a school you’ll be going too!” Some of your new teachers think I’m irresponsible for moving so late in the year and hate me already.
“I’m getting a new job, so new cool things!” You might not get anything good for your birthday if it's a low-paying job.
“Our new home is in a nice neighborhood with lots of kids so you’ll make friends.” You’re more extroverted than me and the families will more than likely hate me.
“It’s a little far from grandpa and grandma, but this is a better life!” I’m scared.
“…Okay. Can we get something to eat before we go to our new house?” He asked softly.
I nodded, not wiping the smile off my face, “We’ll get whatever you want. Just don’t be sad or scared. Just know that I love you with all my heart. Forever.”
Junseok sniffled a bit and moved closer to wrap his arms around my neck. I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him onto my lap to keep him closer. I could feel him relax in my hold as I moved my hand to rub his back.
“We have reached Hoehyeon Station.”
“So how have you settled in?” My friend Jeongguk asked, he was the one who convinced me to move to Seoul.
I could hear my son let out a scream as he ran around with a plushie pig toy and a Spider-Man toy, a throw blanket tied around his neck as a makeshift cape. I soon then heard a bump and something clatter to the floor. I was unpacking a box on the kitchen counter, taking out glasses and plates.
I let out a heavy sigh, “As settled as we can be I gue-,”
“NO! NO! NO! NO!” I could hear my son shout, making me snap into action as I threw everything I was holding down and ran to his voice.
He was in my bedroom, the window open and him half hanging out.
“Junseok! What are you doing!?” I demanded, running over to yank him away from the open window.
“I dropped Oink! I have to get him!” My son protested as I threw him over my shoulder to stop him from squirming out my grip.
“You won’t get anything besides a trip to the hospital hanging out the window like that!” I scolded, sitting him on my bed.
I pulled back to see his tear-filled eyes. I let out a deep sigh, “If I tell a friend of mine to look after you, will you behave while I look for Oink?” I can’t believe I was going to search in an ally for a stuffed pig.
Junseok quickly nodded his head, almost desperate to get his oldest friend back.
“Fineeee.” I groaned, walking back to the kitchen to get my phone.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” I grumbled, moving a trash bag out the way as I tried to look for a bright pink stuffed pig.
I let out a growl of frustration, “Where are you, you little bitch?” I grumbled, trying to think of new places to look.
I looked at my watch and sighed, I was in a hoodie and jeans but it was only getting colder as the sun was no longer in the sky. It was close to 11 pm and I didn’t want to spend all night looking for a stuffed animal. My son cherished that stuffed pig since it was his first stuffed animal but was it really worth it?
Yes, it was. My son loved it so I will find it.
I groaned at myself, kicking a trash bag and going back to looking for the lost pig.
I was ready to give up thirty minutes later until I saw pink fuzz that looked familiar. I quickly moved whatever was in the way and yanked the pig up into my view.
“Fuck yesss!” I chuckled in satisfaction as I began to dust off and examine the pig.
I frowned when I noticed how flat and lumpy it was, it was less to it being dropped out a window, and more about the years of washing, drying and laying on it.
“Mmm, you need a good stuffing, huh?” I asked the pig, examining it more for rips or stains.
“…Uhhh…” I heard a voice draw out behind me.
I immediately spun around to face the person. A man, he was a little taller than me, wearing a white sweater, dark sweatpants, and white shoes. He had broad shoulders and had the most handsome face I’ve ever been blessed with ever seeing. His eyes were wide as he held onto a trash bag, his eyes dropped to see the flattened stuffed pig and he let out a breath of relief with a chuckle.
“I…” He let out a very unique laugh that tumbled from his rose-colored plush lips, bending over, “I thought… Oh my god…” He tried to speak but only laughter came out.
He looked fairly young but I had no idea how I was supposed to address him, “S-Sir? Is something funny?” I asked, praying he wasn’t some guy who lost his mind and planned to murder me in an ally after I spent an hour and a half looking for a stupid stuffed pig.
He held up one finger as he continued to laugh. I assumed it was to give him a minute so I did.
“You have to understand,” He began, trying to catch his breath, “I just heard your words and saw your back and nothing more!” I saw red begin to bloom in his cheeks.
I tilted my head slightly in confusion. He took my confusion as the go-ahead to explain which he only did in few words, with a smirk.
“Fuck yes? You need a good stuffing?”
It slowly clicked together as heat began to rush to my face and embarrassment washed through me.
“I-I was just talking about a stuffed animal!” I raced to explain, which only made him cackle more.
“Wait! No! I’m not fucking the stuffed animal! That sounded wrong!” The man was now leaning against the building, trying not to fall to the ground from laughing so hard.
“M-My son dropped this out the window, he can’t sleep without it.” I explained nervously.
The man straightened up, trying to gain his composure, “You’re a dad?” He asked breathlessly.
I know I’m ‘too young’.
“Yeah. He’s four… This is an awkward way to meet… We just moved in today.” I gave the man a small smile.
He looked surprised, “Really? Nice to meet you! I’m Kim Seokjin!” He introduced himself happily, moving to shake my hand.
“L/n M/n.” I informed, shaking his hand.
“Welcome to the neighborhood, hopefully, there are no more… misunderstandings.” He joked.
I felt a wave of heat travel to my face again, “I hope not.” I agreed with a nervous giggle.
Seokjin opened his mouth as if he was going to say more but as interrupted by my screeching friend.
“M/N! WHAT IS OUR SON’S FIXATION WITH THE TOILET!? HE TRIED TO FLUSH MY PHONE!” Jeongguk shouted out the window.
Well, that was a nice moment…
I let out a deep sigh, “Sorry, I have to head back up. I’ll talk to you soon, Seokjin?” I questioned.
He nodded, seeming at a lost for words. I frowned a bit. He was so open a few moments ago. I walked past him, giving him a small wave as I began to jog back into the building.
I ran to one of the two elevators and pushed my floor number. Using the time to think of what jobs I could apply to and how to make sure ‘Aunt Hyejin’ didn’t come to visit my son while he was in school.
The ding of the elevator broke me from my thoughts and I went to my apartment door. Before I could dig in my back pocket for my keys, my door flung open to reveal my friend Jeongguk.
“He keeps flushing things in the toilet. You lost a roll of toilet paper. ” My friend informed me, crossing his arms, looking upon me in judgment.
“He’s acting out because he wasn’t very excited about coming here…” I notified, rubbing the back of my neck with the hand that wasn’t gripping the stuffed animal.
Jeongguk sighed. I could hear another ‘ding’ but took it as the elevator I got off of closing it’s doors and going back down.
“I know he’ll like it here, you will too. Did…” Jeongguk looked down, biting his bottom lip as he chose his next words carefully.
“Did Hyejin know where you were going? I don’t think it’s a good idea if she knew where we live.” Jeongguk voiced apprehensively.
“Don’t worry about her. I just told her I was leaving town. She tried to tell Junseok that he could stay at her place if he didn’t want to go.” I stated bitterly.
“Are you fucking with me? She literally doesn’t quit does she!?” Jeongguk scoffed, anger beginning to radiate off of him.
I shook my head, “I was just wondering how we would get him to school without her finding him.”
Jeongguk’s eyes widened, “Do you think she’d go school hunting!?”
“I wouldn’t put it past her.” I grunted bitterly.
Jeongguk let out a frustrated sigh, leaning on the doorframe and pinching the bridge of his nose with two fingers. After a few moments, Jeongguk looked up, sadness and sympathy in his eyes. He reached out, grabbing the collar of my hoodie and pulled me into a hug. He wrapped one arm around my waist and his other hand was in the middle of my back. He let out a long exhale as he began to rub my back. I wrapped my arms around him, fully accepting the comfort in my friend’s embrace, even going as far as to bury my face in his shoulder.
“We’ll figure this out together, M/n. I’ll introduce you to some friends of mine, we’ll settle you in, get you a job and support you for as long as you need, okay?” Jeongguk promised.
I felt a weight lift off my shoulders, knowing I wouldn’t do this alone. I was prepared to do it alone, but I knew Jeongguk wouldn’t let me. He was my best friend. I really counted on him and he counted on me.
The comforting resolve was disrupted by the sound of a flushing toilet.
Jeongguk let out an irritated growl. Jeongguk yanked away to turn to look into the apartment.
“WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT THE TOILET!?” Jeon demanded, grabbing my arm and dragging me into the apartment with him.
I made a wild grab to close the door behind us, trying to fight Jeongguk’s tight grip. I pushed the door closed and Jeongguk let me go, deeming me as the reason he couldn’t move fast enough to scold my son. I only chuckled, moving to the kitchen to throw the stuffed animal in the washing machine.
“YAH! NO SON OF MINE WILL FLUSH IRON MAN DOWN THE TOILET!” I rolled my eyes at Jeongguk’s words.
I could hear my son whine a response as I set the washer to quick wash. I heard footsteps and turned to see Jeongguk holding an armful of toys.
“Uncle Gukkie!” My son whined, trailing after him.
“No! You can’t have these back until you learn how to treat them right.” Jeongguk huffed, dropping the toys in an empty box and swiftly picking it up so Junseok couldn’t snag a toy back.
“Why all his toys?” I chortled.
They both looked over at me, my son with pleading eyes and my friend with the eyes of determination.
“Because our son needs to know what ‘stop’ and ‘don’t do that’ means.” He asserted.
“Stop calling him ‘our son’, people will get the wrong idea.” I giggled, moving to get the detergent.
“No! I’m helping you raise this brat, so he’s my son too!” I shrugged my shoulders. Fair enough.
“Any ideas for dinner?” I asked, starting the washer.
“Daddd!” Junseok whined in complaint of me not defending his toys.
I just knew Jeongguk made up his mind and I mostly agreed with him.
“We’ll order take out for now. Tomorrow we’ll have a better plan, we might be a little too busy for a sit-down meal though.” Jeongguk smiled, happy I wasn’t fighting him.
I nodded in understanding, “We’ll have to get some kind of ‘we are new to the neighborhood, don’t mind the screaming’ gift.”
“I think we’ll be fi-” Junseok cut Jeongguk off by jumping up and grabbing the edge of the box.
Junseok yanked down, causing the box to rip and toys spill out.
“JUST WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!? I said you don’t get these back until you learn how to treat them!!” Jeongguk began and ‘our son’ began to argue back.
“I’m thinking baked goods.” I sighed.
“Jeongguk, you…” I growled, holding one end of the entertainment center as Jeongguk held the other.
“You what!? Finish your sentence!” Jeongguk challenged, stopping in the middle of the entrance.
“You soggy piece of toast! Stop pushing me! You’re making me lose balance!” I snapped.
“You’re so fucking slow!” He clapped back.
“You’re so fucking impatient!” Thus the best friend bicker began.
Soon it wasn’t even about the stupid entertainment center, it wasn’t anything too harmful, just us venting out the stress of the day, per usual. We even set down the entertainment center to argue better.
“NO ONE EVEN LIKES THAT RAMEN SO WHY WAS THAT ONE ON SALE?”
“MAYBE BECAUSE NO ONE GOT IT SO IT WAS GOING TO EXPIRE!”
“THAT MUST HAVE BEEN IT!” After a few minutes of this, we finally drew some breath.
“Okay, now we can get back to work.” Jeongguk exhaled.
I have a quick glance around, “Uh… where is Junseok?” I asked blankly.
Jeongguk quickly spun around to face the living room, “He WAS on the couch!??”
Jeongguk and I slowly met eyes as the realization dawned on us. My best friend and I jumped into action.
“CALL THE POLICE!” Jeongguk shouted as he ran at the door.
As soon as the door opened I could see the door across the hall slightly ajar. This led me to think that my son got curious as to what the door was because he’s never lived in an apartment before.
I tried to grab onto my best friend’s shirt to stop him but he was already out the door and down the hall to the stairs before I could say anything. I heard him shove the door open to the stairway and take off. I sighed, wishing he would’ve saved me the effort of having to call him.
I hesitantly closed my apartment door and made my way to the door across the hall. I lightly pushed open the door, caution pulsing through my veins. I could hear bad playing of a guitar flood the nice-lit, comfy apartment.
“Don’t go too hard on the strings or they will break.” I heard a familiar male voice softly instruct.
The air smelled like muffins and I could hear the sound of a tv. I entered the apartment as quiet as I could, taking off my shoes and taking a deep breath. I raised my hand up and tapped my knuckles on the wall beside me.
“Come in!” A cheerful voice chimed, making the place seem even more inviting.
I stepped forward out the entryway to round the corner. My son was sitting on the floor, holding a guitar WAY too big for his body. His tongue was sticking out, his eyebrows furrowed as he tried to focus on the cords he was strumming.
The man I met in the ally, Seokjin, was sitting on the chair with the stuffed pig on his lap. The pig was plushier than before. I assumed Seokjin restuffed the animal since he had a sewing needle in hand, mid-tug of the thread. Seokjin’s eyes seemed to widen at my arrival.
“I’m sorry if he interrupted your afternoon. He was on the couch one moment then he was gone the next.” I apologized, bowing my head in remorse.
“That’s okay! He hasn’t caused me any trouble.” Seokjin assured me.
I lifted my head up, “Really!? He’s been bratty since we arrived.” I was dismayed. My son listened to a complete stranger more than me!?
Seokjin’s plush lips pulled into a smile, “Yes. Your son has been well behaved!” Seokjin grabbed the scissors and snipped off the extra thread from the pig. Seokjin stood up, a new aura around him that was ignored by my son as Seokjin seemed to strut up to me.
“If you feel that bad about interrupting my afternoon, you can treat me to a better one this week?” Seokjin implied, his eyes whirling with confidence.
I almost choked on air. Did my attractive neighbor just ask me out?
“I… Well…” I was at a loss for words.
Seokjin’s small smile turned into a bigger one, almost cocky, “How about tomorrow? Here. At six.” He tempted, one of his hands moving up to fix my shirt. I’m pretty sure he could feel my heart going faster than it’s ever gone before.
Seokjin’s eyes playfully cast up, awaiting my response.
“So what did you tell him?” Jeongguk asked, getting himself a glass of lemonade and leaning against the kitchen island I was currently sitting at. Head in my hands as my body burned with humiliation. Junseok was on the couch, too emersed in his game to understand how badly I ruined myself.
“I shouted ‘I’m gay’ and ran out.” I grumbled.
Lemonade shot out from Jeongguk’s nose, spraying out onto the countertop. My eyes widened and I jumped up to get him some paper towels, grabbing a few myself to catch the liquid that threatened to ruin the floor. Jeongguk grabbed the paper towels and held them up to his face as he began to cough and sputter. I swore I heard slight chuckling in the distress.
“I-I don’t… I don’t think that line works in THIS scenario…” Jeongguk coughed as he moved his cup to the sink, having no desire to have lemonade again any time soon.
“I panicked!” I tried to defend myself.
“Do you want to go on a date with him?” He inquired.
I threw my hands up, “I don’t know! I hardly even know the guy!”
My best friend rolled his eyes, “Well, you won’t know him anytime soon with you shouting ‘I’m gay’ while running out his apartment like he was asking you if you knew his lord and savior Jesus Christ.” Jeongguk smirked.
“I didn’t say ‘I’m gay’ while running out! I said it then ran out. Get your shit straight, Jeon.” I dropped back down to my seat with a pout. I leaned forward, dropping my head so my face was against the cold countertop, groaning in defeat and embarrassment.
“Okay, I’m sorry.” Jeon tried to refrain from smiling, but was failing horribly, “I shouldn’t tease you about this. Maybe go over, see if the offer stands and if he was serious. He came on a little strong. You never know, he might be as freaked out as you.”
My head lifted up and my eyes filled with hope. “Will it be that easy? You think so?” I asked in ease.
“No. He definitely thinks you’re weird and probably has another date set up in your spot. When you get there tomorrow, you’ll be interrupting his date.”
There were a few moments of silence as my expression fell and his lifted.
“I hope that lemonade burned your nose.” I muttered, laying my head back on the island.
"But Uncle Jeonnnn." My son whined from the kitchen island the next day, after a busy morning.
"No. I said we'd get ice cream AFTER you put away all your toys." Jeongguk asserted, lightly kicking the large box of toys that had been taped up from being ripped.
I only shook my head as I loaded the fridge with groceries.
"But I already cleaned my room, helped dad in the kitchen and helped you!" My son bargained.
"He has been helping a lot today, Jeon," I informed with a small smile.
Jeongguk's head snapped to face me, betrayal written in his eyes, "Who's side are you on!?"
I let out a sigh. I had two toddlers now.
"I'm not picking a side. Junseok, he said after you put your toys away. But Jeongguk, you can't discredit the work he's put in today without being a brat or complaining once. " I resolved.
My best friend pouted, deep in thought. He then turned to my son.
"How about we get junk food and play video games for an hour as your reward?" Jeon suggested, making my son's eyes light up.
"Good, because I don't want to go back on my word. You only get ice cream when you put away your toys. Go get ready." Jeon chuckled.
My son jumped up and rushed to his room quickly as if Jeon would change his mind in under thirty seconds. Jeongguk stood next to me to open the fridge for a bottle of soda.
"Are you sure you're okay with this? I know you said you wanted to help, but I don't want you to be doing all this because you feel obligated to." I frowned.
Jeongguk raised his eyebrow and swallowed, "M/n? I'm only taking him to the convenience store and back?"
"That's not it, " I rolled my eyes, "You've helped me mostly unpack, arrange the apartment and even took a week off from work to get us settled in. You've given a lot in the past few days."
It was then my best friend's turn to roll his eyes, "Seriously? Friends help friends move. And BEST friends arrange your fucking apartment for you because you don't have your shit together. If I didn't want to be here I wouldn't show up. You and your son deserve some happiness right now, so if I have to call another customer service line to help me set up a shelf, I fucking will."
I smiled at how much determination filled his eyes. "You didn't have the right tool, like a dumbass," I recalled, trying not to cackle.
"The manual said I didn't need a hammer!" He snapped.
"Your voice got a little offended there. Did I hit a nerve?" I teased.
"Know what? Fuck you, " Jeongguk stated dramatically as he put down his soda and began to stride out the kitchen, "I'm leaving you! I'm going to stay with my parents and I'm taking our son with me!" He ranted as he walked into the hall.
I chuckled, shaking my head as I moved back to stock up the kitchen. After I loaded the pantry I looked around for the box with the plates. I walked more into the living room to examine the stacked boxes by the door but didn't find any more boxes for the kitchen. I frowned.
"Hey, Jeongguk?" I called rotating boxes, hoping I read them wrong.
"Yes?" He called back from my room.
"Do you know where the last box for the kitchen is?"
"Check the hall! There are a few boxes out there that just got delivered!" In the hall!?
I shook my head in judgment and walked to the front door and out into the hall. Sure enough, to the left of my door were two stacks of boxes, four boxes high. I jogged back into the apartment to get my box cutter off the kitchen counter and ran back out to get to work on opening the last kitchen box that conveniently sat on the top of the first stack.
After I cut the tape open, I retract the blade in the box cutter and shoved it in my front hoodie pocket for easy access. I opened the box and took out a plate to examine it for any damages.
I could hear Jeongguk and my son talking as they entered the living room, then the entryway to pull on their shoes.
"Off to get junk?" I asked, checking other plates.
"Yes! He even dressed himself." My eyes widened at my best friend's words, making me spin around to face my mismatched son.
He had on red pants, a white T-shirt, green converse, a pink hat, and a yellow zip-up hoodie.
"...Junseok...Why?" I wasn't disappointed or judging, just confused.
Junseok shrugged, "It's comfortable."
"I mean, at least that's what matters." I gave him a warm smile.
Jeongguk reached in his back pocket, "He's adorable, I should take a picture." Jeon froze.
"Fuck! I forgot my phone. Wait here, Seok." Jeon gave my son two quick pats on the head and dashed inside.
My son and I gave each other and look then shifted our gazes to the apartment to give my best friend a judgemental look he couldn't see. Once Jeongguk came back, he took my son's hand and gave us both a big bunny smile.
"We're off!" He announced, puffing out his chest.
"To see the wizard?" I teased.
"Off what?" My son questioned.
Jeongguk deflated, "Let's just go." He grumbled as I held back a chuckle.
"Bye, Dad!" Junseok happily waved and began to drag my best friend down the hall.
"I'll grab you the usual!" Jeon quickly told me as my son dragged him to the elevators.
I giggled, shaking my head. I turned back to the boxes and lifted up the kitchen one. I took the box into the kitchen, setting it down on the island and made my way back out to the hall. I grabbed the top box on the second stack, turning it to get a better look at what I had written on the side of it.
As I was checking I could hear footsteps behind me. I smirked, figuring it was my friend forgetting something, "Forgot your wallet now, Jeon?" I teased, turning around.
I was met with someone who wasn't Jeongguk.
Seokjin was looking down at the floor. It looked like he had been biting at his lips and his hands were shoved in his pocket.
"Hello, M/n..." His voice was awkward and I didn't expect it from the man who was so confident and straightforward yesterday.
"Seokjin! Hi! How is your day so far?" I asked just as awkwardly.
There were a few moments of uncomfortable silence. Seokjin let out a groan of frustration as he pulled his hands out his pockets and lifted his gaze.
"I wanted to apologize!" He stated, his chest seeming to puff up.
I pressed my lips together in an effort to not smile, "Apologize for what?"
"I came on too strong yesterday." -Seokjin looked down at the floor again- "You had barely met me and I thought if I made an impression, you'd be as interested as me. I talked to my friend about it and he called me a dumbass. I understand why though. You and your boyfriend seem to be happy together and have a son an-" I raised one finger up as I let out a small giggle of disbelief.
I knew it was rude to interrupt but I just had to.
"Y-You... You think Jeongguk and I are boyfriends?" I held back laughter.
His eyes widened slightly, seeming even more embarrassed, "Are you not??"
"Jeongguk is my best friend, he has a habit of calling my son 'our son' because he's been around him since birth and helped me a lot with raising him. I feel nothing but platonic feelings for Jeongguk and he feels the same. We're like brothers." I explained, a smile on my face.
So Seokjin was a softie. I should've guessed.
"I... I could've sworn... Well, that makes sense!" Seokjin threw his hands up and groaned, turning around so his back was to me and put his face in his hands.
"Seokjin? If the offer still stands I would love to go on a date with you. I just don't know if I can do it tonight." I smirked, feeling bolder now that I knew he was as awkward as me.
"I'll admit you DID make an impression. You made me so flustered I told you I was gay and ran." I added light-heartedly.
I heard Seokjin let out a small laugh and saw his shoulders shake a bit.
I pressed my lips together, thinking of how to make this situation less awkward.
“Would you like to have a drink with me? I’m kinda tired and need a break.” I smiled.
Seokjin nodded, only moving when I began to walk into my apartment.
“Woww!” He exclaimed in awe.
“What is it?” I asked, spinning around, full of fear.
“Your apartment looks so clean!” I let out a breath of relief.
I thought he found something bad. Like my son leaving a half-eaten sandwich on the floor or even Jeongguk forgetting my underwear on the couch because he insisted that he do laundry today.
Glad it wasn’t anything bad, I strolled to the kitchen to serve us glasses of lemonade. Seokjin looked around a bit before making his way into the kitchen.
“So, who’s your friend with the blunt advice?” I giggled, lifting my glass to my lips.
Seokjin smiled, “Yoongi. He goes back and forth between staying at my apartment and our friend Hoseok’s apartment. The day I did that was the day he was at Hoseok’s. He said I was like a toddler who he couldn’t leave alone.”
“Jeongguk says the same thing. He teased me endlessly for what I did,” I chuckled.
“Well, now we’re having a conversation like adults.”
“More like teenagers, because we’re having lemonade awkwardly.”
“Adults awkwardly drink lemonade too!” I laughed, only shaking my head.
“How old are you anyway? I want to say you’re my hyung, but the way you act contradicts that.” Seokjin pressed his hand to his chest in fake offense.
“I’m 26!”
“So you’re a goofy hyung.”
“And you’re a rude dongsaeng!” Now it was my turn to be offended.
“How so!?”
“You should’ve asked my age when we met!”
“Well, I’m sorry I was distracted!”
“I know I’m handsome but please have manners!” My face pretty much heated up the whole room.
“It’s because Jeongguk shouted out the window! Then the second time you cornered me!” I defended my honor as best as I could.
“Ahh, I knew my handsome face affected you.” He smiled playfully, shifting his hand to blow me a kiss.
“…I will kick you out of my apartment.”
Seokjin let out a laugh, “Why?”
“Because you’re backing me into a corner!”
“If it makes you feel any better, I think you’re handsome too.”
“…Where is Yoongi-hyung when you need him.”
“Yah! Why do you automatically call him hyung and not me!?”
“Because I learned my lesson!”
“Why didn’t you learn it before me!?”
“…I’m sorry, Hyung. I’ll do better next time.”
Seokjin smiled bigger, “Ah,” He clutched his chest, his face scrunching a bit like he was touched and proud, “what a respectful young man I’m raising you to be.”
“…I’m kicking you out.”
Over the next few days, Seokjin and I would wave to each other and sometimes he would knock at my door just to hang out. Jeongguk and Junseok seemed to really like him. It wasn’t long before I gave him my number so he could just text me when he would come over so I could just leave the door unlocked and so we could talk more.
If he wasn’t complimenting himself or me over text he would be giving me horribly good dad jokes.
I settled in easily and got a job working at Jeongguk’s ‘assistant’ since he worked as a camera operator. I was supposed to be as qualified as him, but what ends up happening is him teaching me how to work the camera and then him judging me when I fuck up. I am getting better, and I’m happy to have my best friend working with me.
After work is usually when Seokjin invites himself over. Since Jungkook and I are mostly attached to the hip, we pick up Junseok and all go home to my apartment together, so we make a ton of noise.
I needed to clean my apartment and go shopping one day, so Seokjin agreed to watch Junseok. I thought he would mind at first but he said he ‘would be honored to teach this young man his ways’ if I just promised that I would feed him dinner too… I wasn’t sure if I should’ve left him with Seokjin…
I had Seokjin stay at my now clean apartment while he watched Junseok since it would be easier. It was just Seokjin and Junseok since Jungkook had to go back to his own apartment to clean up.
I looked at the two bags of chips, one was ‘original’, meaning salt and a ton of grease and other one was octopus flavored. Since I haven’t tried the octopus flavored chip, I figured ‘what the hell’ and dropped them both in my basket.
“Old habits never die huh?” I heard making me freeze.
Please don’t be her.
I spun around and felt my blood boil, “Hyejin, what the actual fuck are you doing here?”
She gave me an awkward smile, “It’s nice to see you too.”
“Drop the crap, what do you want.”
“You just leaving was cruel. He’s my son too.” I narrowed my eyes at her, fighting every urge not to explode in a semi-busy store.
“You wanted nothing to do with him because it inconvenienced your ‘perfect life’. So you can fuck off with that. You literally delivered him, then handed him to me and never even visited until a few months ago. ”
“Because I regretted my decision.”
“Because the party was over. The people who ‘knew you better than me’ decided you were expendable.”
She sighed, “Stop being so mean!”
“Stop pretending like you came to this decision yourself and like you actually give a fuck.”
“What makes you think that I don’t!?”
“What’s the name of Junseok’s pig?”
There was silence. I sighed at her look of panic. Maybe I was too harsh, but I didn’t want MY son to be hurt by an unreliable person who only cared about themselves.
“Listen,” I began, looking down at my hands, trying to think over my words, “We used to have something and I didn’t plan on having a son so soon. You basically took matters into your own hands and forced this on the both of us. You had him, then handed him to me and never even looked his direction. I moved here to start over with him. So he wouldn’t hear stories of his mother at least for now. You left us both. You can see where I’m coming from can’t you?”
I looked up at the end of my rant to see her fuming.
I guess she couldn’t see where I was coming from.
“You can’t just pick up and start over without me! I’m his mother!”
“A mother doesn’t give her child up for partying and people who don’t care about anyone or anything.”
“Stop bringing my friends into this! It’s YOUR fault!”
I let out an annoyed sigh. This was going nowhere.
“You’re obviously not mature yet. Please leave me and MY son alone. I would consider you visiting my son if you grew up a little bit because you obviously haven’t learned anything. He starts school soon, and if I see or hear of you stalking him there or waiting at the fucking gates, so help me I will get every lawyer I can get my hands on to MAKE you stay away. So I’m politely telling you to go fuck yourself.” I grabbed another bag of chips and began to push past her.
“You can’t take my son from me!” She yelled as I walked away.
“I didn’t! You handed him over!” I called back, trying to walk away in fucking style.
I couldn’t stop thinking about Hyejin on the elevator ride up to my apartment.
Maybe I WAS too harsh.
Or maybe she was too stubborn to take a fucking hint.
I kept wondering if there was a compromise we could come to or if something was wrong with my logic.
I was afraid she’d get bored like before then leave again. Play nice for a few weeks then leave.
I didn’t want someone like that in my son’s life but she was right, she was his mother and she had rights.
What if I DID have to involve the law?
What if they decided that I shouldn’t get my son?
What if it all went downhill because I was too stubborn to just let her see him??
What if I DID let her see him and she took him from me??
I was so stuck in my thoughts that I didn’t notice that I got out the elevator and shoved open my front door.
I didn’t snap out of it until I heard a male scream. My head snapped up to see Seokjin leap from the couch and frantically look around for something to defend himself. After finding nothing he, for some reason, settled on Oink who was laying on the couch, cocking his arm back like he was going to throw it at me.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa it's just me!" I held my hands up in front of me- "Put. The. Pig. Down!"
"You don't just walk into a man's home!" Seokjin scolded, shaking the pink stuffed pig at me in a demonstration of dominance.
“It’s MY apartment!”
“It was MY territory before you entered!”
“Like hell it is! I pay the bills!”
“I babysit and grace this place with my looks! Now tell me who REALLY provides for this family!”
As much as I tried to fight it, that made me smile. Despite me being too stressed and worked up to focus when I walked in, Seokjin made it all melt away in a matter of moments.
It was like 10 tons was lifted from my shoulders.
I sighed, letting my body relax, “You, Seokjin.” I smiled tiredly as I walked over to him.
He looked a little shocked at my words, still holding his guard up as I threw my arms around him to pull him into a thankful hug.
“You provide for this family more than you know.” I spoke, letting the silence hang in the air.
Then too much silence. It was only a few seconds of silence but it seemed like minutes. I was considering apologizing and pulling away, but I felt Jin wrap his arms around my waist and pull me closer.
It was now peaceful, comfortable, and reassuring silence.
It wasn’t like a hug with Jeongukk. Though it was filled with love and comfort, it felt like that but so much more.
I could feel my emotions pool in my chest and threaten to spill out. All from a simple hug.
“…I’m lost.” I admitted, hiding my face into his well-built shoulder.
Seokjin let out a small sigh, his arms tightening around me, “I’ll always be here to guide you.” He seemed to promise in a soft tone.
Maybe I could be willing to let Seokjin into my life more than I already had.
It really wouldn’t be so bad to let Seokjin be the person he wanted to be to me… Would it?
“So…about that date.” I began.
“Remember not to put the glass pitcher in the front of the fridge!” I called to Jeongguk as he was sat on the floor with my son.
I could hear their loud game continue, letting me know that they were far from listening. Their bowls of noodles sat behind them on the coffee table, untouched as they numbed themselves to the gaming world,
“Yah! Eat your food!” I snapped, making Jeongguk roll his eyes with an annoyed groan.
“Fine, MOM. We’ll eat.” He sassed, tapping my son’s side to get him to turn to the table.
I could hear a soft knock on the door that made me rush over to it. I pulled open my door, ready to tell Jin to just come in because I needed to wait for my socks to get out the drawer but my jaw dropped at the sight of him.
Black leather jacket, black shirt, dark jeans, and dark boots. A beautiful earring dangled from one of his ears, giving just the right amount of flash to draw attention.
I couldn’t help but stare in awe of the man I happened to snatch up by chance. I was taken by surprise by the outfit. He usually went for a more softer look. So my dumbass was wearing an oversized sweater and jeans to match his soft look but now that wasn’t happening.
Seokjin began to smirk at my obvious staring but just like that, it was over. The moment ruined with a noodle flying across the room, sauce splattering a bit on his face and my son cackling like the tyrant he was growing up to be.
My eyes widened and I quickly ran to get paper towels as Jeongguk began to scold my son about wasting noodles.
I made a mental note to scold my son for not only wasting noodles but ruining a perfectly good leather jacket.
“Sorry, Hyung! I should’ve warned you not to wear anything nice.” I let out a small awkward laugh.
“After all I’ve done to save Oink and THIS is how I’m treated!?” Seokjin mocked offense, a smile blessing his face, making me let out a breath of relief.
Seokjin the ran over to my son to ‘tackle’ him to the floor and wiggle his finger’s against my son’s side, causing my son to squeal with laughter. Jeongguk quickly picked a side as he jumped on Seokjin’s back to annoy him, causing Seokjin to yell at Jeongguk, but not causing him to stop tickling my son.
I smiled as warmth spread throughout my chest. Despite Seokjin’s attire, he was too soft for his own good and I loved that about him. He didn’t prod at my personal life, he didn’t push his boundaries, or judge how young I was with a son. Or even judge my relationship with Jeongguk. He just took it as it was and didn’t try to change it, he just wanted to be involved. He wanted to know me. He wanted to be a part of my life and take care of us.
“Yah! You’re ruining my date!” I complained, causing Jeongguk to blow into Seokjin’s ear as a form of rebellion.
“Stop giving foreplay!” I snapped at Jeongguk, causing his eyes to widen and for him to freeze in place.
Seokjin used Jeongguk’s pause to his advantage, grabbing Jeongguk to have him on his back so Seokjin could tickle him relentlessly too. Jeongguk let out a loud laugh as he tried to squirm out of Seokjin’s grasp.
“M/N! GET YOUR BOYFRIEND!”
“I don’t know, man. The way you were teasing him makes me think he’s YOUR boyfriend…”
“LESS SHIT TALK, MORE HELP!”
The date was not what I expected, but in a good way. Seokjin said he had a reservation somewhere and I thought it was a restaurant but after a few minutes of walking, he bought two bags of chips and some drinks as we casually strolled, which was gradually making my sanity decrease.
“So… Is this the date?” I asked as Seokjin’s eyes were trained on looking in his bag for the perfect chip.
“Would it be terrible if it was?” He asked, not bothering to look up.
“Not really, I just don’t really understand why we took an hour train ride to walk around.”
Seokjin only smirked. A moment of silence.
“So what do you think of koalas?” He tested.
“WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING!?”
Seokjin let out a laugh and kept walking. I glared at the back of his head, wondering if it would be too cruel to trip him.
Words can never explain how much I felt like a child as I hastily pulled off my shoes and put them away. I practically vibrated with excitement as Seokjin led me into the empty place.
A trampoline park.
No one else but us and staff.
I was frozen in place, taken by surprise at just how huge this place was, “How did you manage to do this!? Are you rich or something!?” I gasped, “Am I your sugar baby now?” I asked as Seokjin un-glued me from my spot by pulling me by the hand.
“As much as I want you to think I’m perfect, my friend Taehyung works here. He offered the night to us.” He explained, stepping on the boarders of the trampolines on the floor so he could walk easily.
“…Are all your friends cool?” I asked, causing Seokjin to stop in his tracks and whip his head around to face me.
“Yah! Why do you want to know? I’m the coolest out of them! I’m the only 10!” I pressed my lips together in attempts to not burst out laughing.
Seokjin shook his head, “Let’s play a game! There are a few balls around, I go on one side and you go on the other, it hits the wall behind me, you get a point, I hit it behind you, you get a point.”
I could feel my competitive spirit spur in my chest, “Oh you’re fucking on!” I smirked, playfully pushing him to the side and rushing to get to the other side of the room.
“WHY DID YOU PUSH ME!?”
“PLAY THE GAME HYUNG!”
Seokjin decided to set a timer, 20 minutes, whoever got the most points in those 20 minutes was the winner. The loser had to buy dinner and the tickets back home. A few minutes into the game and I was only pulling 2 points ahead.
Seokjin was more athletic then I gave him credit for. Soon it got way too hot in the sweater I decided to wear. I was so used to playing these kinds of games with Jeongguk that I didn’t question it when I yanked off my sweater and threw it to the side to quickly get back into the game before Seokjin attempted to score.
However, that didn’t happen. Seokjin was walking with the ball, eyes too focused on me to the point where he stepped wrong between two trampolines, causing him to slip and the brightly colored borders to go directly into his groin. My hand flew up to my mouth as I heard the wind get knocked out of him painfully. I could feel second-hand pain in my stomach as he fell to the side, his hands cupping the now extremely sensitive area, his eyes watered.
“Holy shit! Hyung!? Are you okay!?” I asked, trying to run over but ended up losing my balance. Which ended in me doing a useless belly flop in his direction.
Seokjin let out a pain-filled chuckle, “Stop being cute I’m dying!”
“I’m sorry, Hyung!” I apologized quickly, getting up as fast as I could and stepping on the border so I wouldn’t lose balance again.
Before I could race to him Seokjin’s words stopped me, “YAH! Put on your shirt first!!”
I nodded rapidly and rushed over to grab my sweater, yanking it on and turning to sprint to Jin. Which made my impatient ass slip.
Again.
I let out a frustrated groan as I belly-flopped again.
“Oh just fucking forget it!” Seokjin murmured breathlessly, rolling onto his back.
“How about I just walk?” I suggested.
“That would be best considering this place is a death trap.”
I stood again, moving to walk carefully on the borders until I got to Seokjin. I kneeled down beside him, petting his head in attempts to comfort him.
“…Thank you.” He muttered, staring at the ceiling, looking like he was questioning every choice he’s ever made.
“…This means I win right?”
“Gloat all you want but I’m never bringing you here ever again and I’m telling Taehyung that he tried to kill me.”
“…No one had you staring.” I tried to hold back the laughter that was bubbling in my chest.
“SO NOW IT’S MY FAULT THAT YOU GOT NAKED IN FRONT OF ME!?” Seokjin suddenly popped off.
“I just took off my shirt. It was too hot.” I defended.
“TOO HOT IS RIGHT! YOU CHEATED! YOU KNEW THAT WOULD MAKE ME FLUSTERED! I WANT A REMATCH WHEN I CAN FEEL MY LEFT LEG AGAIN!” Seokjin ranted.
I giggled, “Hyung, just admit that you like my body and you lost.”
“I didn’t lose! You cheated! How would you feel if I took off my shirt during a game?”
“I would like it very much.” I teased.
I could see color bloom in Seokjin’s cheeks and ears.
I could feel adoration fill my chest, “You’re so cute.”
“I’m a 26-year-old man. I’m not cute.”
“If I get you dinner can I call you cute?”
“You get me dinner and I charge you for getting to have a meal with me.”
“You called me cute, this isn’t fair.”
“Don’t talk back to your hyung.”
“…My hyung just broke his balls…”
“And it demands respect!”
I half expected Seokjin to take me to a cafe or something, but instead, he was arguing on the phone as I grabbed chips out of a vending machine.
“I set up that reservation three hours ago!” My eyebrows shot up.
“How the fuck did you even do that in the first place??” Seokjin pressed his hand to the phone as if to completely keep the person on the other line from hearing.
“Someone canceled and I booked it.” He responded in a hushed tone.
The other person seemed to say something because Seokjin quickly removed his hand and snapped, “They DID cancel!”
I only shook my head as I looked around. There were a few small restaurants. One looked like it had some good looking noodles. Another one had shrimp wrapped in something that I first thought was noodles. It was more like a batter of sorts, it was all dipped in the deep fryer. I was more curious about what the hell that dough was than hungry for it.
I did see one stall that stood out though. An older woman was making knife-cut noodles. She didn’t have many people since there was a constant battle of everyone one-upping each other.
I turned to Seokjin, who was still arguing with this person who wasn’t budging. I grabbed his hand and began to pull him towards the stall. He was too focused on bickering that he just let me drag him along. I pushed down on his shoulders to make him sit then turned to the surprised woman.
“Two bowls please!” I eagerly asked.
“Would you like chicken or pork in your bowl?” She asked, mirroring my smile.
I frowned a bit looking over at Seokjin, still arguing. I wasn’t really sure what he would prefer.
“One bowl of each? He’s a little stubborn.” I chuckled awkwardly.
She only nodded in understanding as she began to cook the noodles. I was excited, getting chopsticks and looking over the add-in options.
“Hyung, she has soybean paste!” I exclaimed.
I didn’t hear a break in his stupid dispute.
“WHY TELL ME THERE WAS A CANCELLATION IF THERE WASNT!? THEY CALLED TO CANCEL THEY CAN'T JUST TAKE IT BACK!”
I let out a huff. Well at least I know he’s passionate about what he believes in.
I reached up and grabbed his phone, ignoring his appalled face as I ended the call.
“Yah! I was winning! That was rude!” He scolded me.
“You weren’t winning! You were arguing with a wall! Pay attention to me.” I grumbled, moving to shove his phone in my pocket.
“Hey! Give me my phone!” He tried to lunge for it but I held my arm out to just keep it out his reach.
“We came out to have a nice time!” I whined.
“We are having a nice time!”
“You arguing about a table is not a nice time!”
Seokjin was about to retaliate but was cut off by the woman setting the bowls in front of us.
“Thank you!” I smiled at her, successfully pocketing the phone.
“Pork or chicken?” I asked, handing him chopsticks.
Seokjin wordlessly grabbed the chopsticks from me and slid the bowl with chicken closer to himself. A pout rested on his rose lips.
I groaned, “Hyung, the reservation wasn’t THAT important to argue for twenty minutes.”
More silence.
I let out a sigh and pulled the pork bowl closer, mixing the noodles and beginning to eat. I looked over to the add-in options and got the hot pepper paste. I put a decent sized dab in my bowl and offered it to Seokjin, who just took it in more muteness. I only rolled my eyes and went back to eating. Who knew an argument could mean so much to him.
After about half a bowl of noodles, he finally spoke.
“I wanted tonight to be perfect.”
I raised an eyebrow at him. He was only staring at his noodles in defeat.
“And it is so far… except for you arguing for twenty minutes then ignoring me for ten.”
Seokjin turned to me, sadness in his eyes, “But you finally said yes!”
His words slowly sunk in as he continued, “I didn’t get a lot of time to set this up, but I still wanted to blow you away.” Oh great now I felt like a dick for not planning the date at a later time.
“I said yes because I wanted to know you more, not what you could offer me. I understand you want it to be perfect but I honestly feel more comfortable eating noodles at a stall than in a fancy restaurant that I have to get glares every time I laugh too loud. This IS perfect, Hyung.”
Seokjin looked back down at his bowl, “…If I would’ve known you were this cheap I would’ve had a picnic at the park.” He grumbled.
“CAN WE!?”
Seokjin shook his head at me, a disapproving look on his face.
"I make a KILLER lemonade!" I added with a proud smile.
I saw Seokjin try to hold back a smile, "We'll have a picnic date next time." He confirmed, lifting up a bundle of noodles.
We heard a clatter to the side of us. We whipped our heads to look towards the woman. She had dropped a spoon and looked a little... surprised?
"Ma'am, are you okay?" I asked softly.
Seokjin only frowned, "Yes, we're on a date. I've even seen him without a shirt and I liked it."
My head snapped over to look at Seokjin, "Hyung!"
"We're planning on going home together," Seokjin added to my horror.
"OKAY!THANKYOUSOMUCHFORTHEMEALWE'REGOINGTOGONOW!" I yelled in one breath, frantically trying to pull my wallet out of my pocket.
"He even has a son so we don't need to adopt. We're going to raise a CHILD. TWO MEN."
"HYUNGSTOPTALKING!" I slammed the money on the table, just knowing I gave more money than was needed.
My face was way too hot and my brain was far too scattered to deal with what Seokjin just did.
I grabbed his hand and began to try to yank him away. It was useless. The man didn't budge.
"I'm going to use the belt tonight because he made me lose an argument."
World.
Just open up and take me now.
It wasn't just the woman who was staring now, it was others around the small market as well. I wanted to melt into the floor.
“Hyung…”I whispered, “If we leave now I’ll buy you cake.”
The ride and stroll home was by far my favorite part of the date. Even though I had to buy Seokjin a pretty expensive slice of cake –I’ve never seen someone shove a whole slice of strawberry cake in their mouth– we still talked the whole way home. Embarrassing stories of our childhoods, who our friends were and everything in between. It was amazing until the dreaded topic was brought up.
“What about Junseok? Does he talk to his mother?”
Fuck.
I looked down at my feet as we walked, thinking over my works. I tried to figure out how I was going to tell this story without being biased or have Seokjin thing badly of Hyejin.
Seokjin must have thought I didn’t want to tell him, “You don’t have to tell me if it’s too sore of a subject…” He added, a little disappointed.
“It’s not that!” I quickly said, looking up as fast as I spoke.
I let out an awkward laugh from my outburst, “It’s just that I don’t know how to really tell the story in a neutral or fair way. I only know one side of the story so it’s a little complicated.”
Seokjin let out a sigh. He reached over to grab my hand and dragged me over to some stairs close by. He sat down and patted beside him, “This sounds like it will take a while, so start from the beginning. We have the time.”
I looked down at him, shaking my head, “You just want to torture my best friend.”
“Looking after that well-behaved, future child of mine, is not torture.” I raised an eyebrow.
“Future child of yours?”
“Just sit down and spill.”
I sighed, and plopped down next to him, this was going to be hard explaining this to someone who didn’t know Hyejin.
“I used to have two best friends. Jeongguk, and Hyejin. Hyejin was a girl and she kinda stuck around us,” I began, trying to keep my eyes dead ahead so I wouldn’t have to look into his eyes. I was almost afraid he would judge me.
“Jeongguk was in sports and had two other friends, Jimin and Taehyung. So sometimes Jeongguk and I couldn’t hang out. I wasn’t mad about it, I mean I didn’t expect him to not have other friends. But Hyejin made it seem like it was like he committed treason,” I scoffed at the ridiculousness, “She kept saying ‘if he’s having fun so should we’.” I mocked her stupid voice.
I could see Seokjin press his lips together to hold back laughter. I sighed and began to rub my hands on my thighs nervously.
“I was an art student. I was trying to keep my grades above average and I didn’t care about having fun. But Hyejin kept going on and on and I knew that she wouldn’t stop until I gave in and went with her at least once. So I did. ” I could feel my heart speed up at the thought of finishing the stupid story that seemed to affect me years later.
“Jimin had told me once that Hyejin was giving me heart eyes. I told him she was our childhood friend, so he was wrong. Jeongguk and I talked about how she seemed to be the most unconvinced when I came out, but I was too idiotic to think she would just let it go.” I could feel anger begin to build and sting the back of my eyes.
“So sure enough, I got black-out drunk and wandered upstairs. I just wanted to pass out and have someone drag me home in the morning. I remember diving onto the bed and texting Jeongguk. I remember Hyejin coming into the room and asking if I was plastered. I remember saying something stupid like ‘I’m not plaster, I’m a person.’. I remember her flipping me over and complaining about taking me home. I just remember her hovering over me. I thought she was just going to complain more and take me home like a decent fucking human being would.”I nearly growled.
Seokjin scooted closer to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. He pulled me close but said nothing, allowing me to continue.
“The last thing I remember was her stupid fucking face hovering over me. I woke up next to her. Being the idiot I was, I woke her up and told her we would keep it a secret. I dumbly thought she was as wasted as me and we just happened to hook up. We didn’t talk about it and I told her that if she brought it up, we wouldn’t be friends anymore.” Even the summarized version made my blood boil.
“A few weeks later, she called in sick to school. When Jeongguk and I called in to check up on her, we were yelled at by her mom. Well… I was yelled at by her mom. I was called a low-life player and a bunch of other stupid shit. When I asked her what the hell her problem was, she told me Hyejin was pregnant.”
“I had to explain to Jeongguk what happened. Of course, Jeongguk was pissed. My family wasn’t very stable financially. But Hyejin’s family was. I had to explain to my parents. They weren’t as hard on me as they could’ve been, but they were disappointed. Jeongguk was the first to say she did it on purpose.”
“I believe him.” Seokjin’s voice was barely above a whisper.
“I do too. I tried to get a job, I mean I was going to have a kid. So I stopped taking school as seriously. I figured if I passed just above the bar it would be enough for art school. Hyejin kept telling me that being a parent was a full-time thing. She wasn’t going to let me go to art school. I told her that I WAS going. There were plenty of fathers in college! I tried damn hard to get above the bar while working. It’s was 8 months of hell with Hyejin. Jeongguk would invite me to hang out with him and his friends, only for Hyejin to somehow find us and tell off Jimin like he was trying to steal me away. I told her to cut it out, only for her to tell me I was hers until the baby was born. Jeong–”
“Bitch.” I choked on air.
Seokjin patted my back as I coughed and sputtered, “Are you okay!?” He questioned, worry written all over his face. My choking turned into laughter as I leaned onto Seokjin’s lap.
“What!? I’m sorry, but that’s crazy stalker level bitchery!” He defended, only causing me to laugh more. Literal tears.
I felt Seokjin’s fingers comb through my hair as he let out small laughs of his own, waiting for me to calm down.
It wasn’t so bad in Seokjin’s lap. It was warm and comforting. Just what I needed for the finale of the horror story. My laughter died down. He didn’t stop playing with my hair as my breath evened out.
“Jeongguk was going to move here. But he stayed until Junseok was born.” I said softly.
I rubbed my face more against his thigh, “That was nice of him.”Seokjin’s voice was feather-light.
“She left us.” I stated.
Seokjin’s fingers froze.
“Her parents were insisting I should marry her. My parents would fight back. A few weeks before Junseok was born, her parents put us in an apartment to live together. My mother hated it. It was pretty high-end. A few days before Junseok was born, Hyejin and I got into a fight about us getting married. I wasn’t going to do it. I would support her and my child. I would make sure he grew up right, but I wasn’t going to trap myself in a loveless marriage. So when Junseok was born. She ignored me almost the whole time. Only waking up to feed him then going back to bed. Jimin, Taehyung, and Jeongguk were more excited to see him than she was. It was no surprise that as soon as she was able to walk around, she packed her things, handed me Junseok and left everything to me.”
I felt wet hit my cheek.
After a moment of confusion, I looked up at Seokjin. His eyes were red, tears beginning to streak down his cheeks.
I quickly sat up to cup his face, “Why are you crying?” I asked, trying to wipe away as many tears as I would.
“He’s such a great son. Why wouldn’t she just give him a chance?!” I’ve never seen him so hurt and angry.
I let out a sigh, “She came back last year. She tried to act like nothing happened. She just kept coming over and saying I was the problem for not giving her a chance. He knows her as his aunt, which creeps me out. So I moved so she would leave us alone. She just knows I’m in Seoul.” I sagged my shoulders and dropped my hands to his thighs.
“Well she can suck my ass he’s my son now.”
“WHY IS EVERYONE TRYING TO CLAIM MY SON??” I demanded.
Seokjin chuckled, “I’m telling you, he’s a great boy. You did perfect.” His voice was soft and comforting.
He placed his hand in my hair to ruffle it, “You and your son are perfect for me.”
He’s face was still blotched red. His eyes shined with the light and his nose was as red as his ears. He was beautiful. It hurt to see him cry, but I couldn’t help the fondness that built in my chest.
“You’re perfect for us too.” I whispered.
His eyes turned into crescents as his smile grew.
“You’re even handsome when you cry.” I smirked.
“Yah!” The switch flipped.
Seokjin drew back to smack the back of my head, “I’m starting to think you only want me around for my looks!”
“That’s not true!” I rubbed the back of my head with a pout, “I keep you around because you cook and make dad jokes.”
“…Do you appreciate them?”
“Very much so.”
“…Then I will continue to stay.”
Seokjin and I walked into the apartment building hand-in-hand. I would occasionally swing our hands, being the idiot I was. Seokjin had a thing for winking at people who stared, which I had to scold him for.
Upon exiting the elevator, Seokjin turned to me, “How about I hang out at your apar-”
A loud shriek cut Seokjin off. Making us both jump and look down the hall.
“JUNSEOK GIVE ME THE BASKET OF TOWELS!!!” I could hear Jeongguk’s muffled yelling from in the apartment.
“SECRET AGENT SEOK WILL USE THEM TO ESCAPE THE EVIL VILLAIN!”
“YOU USE THEM TO CLIMB OUT THE WINDOW AND I WILL GRAB SCIS- STOP TYING THEM TOGETHER YOUR FATHER WILL KILL ME!”
I let out a deep sigh, turning to Seokjin, “You still sure he’s a good son?”
Seokjin gave me a big smile, “He’s tormenting Jeongguk. He’s the best son.”
I could hear Junseok scream.
“SCREAM ALL YOU WANT! YOU CAN’T GO OUT THE WINDOW!!!”
Seokjin let out a sigh of his own, his hand tightened around mine, “Let’s go handle our son, shall we?”
MONSTA X reacting to you being gone the morning after only to be found in a different room.
pairing: monsta x x reader fandom: monsta x warnings: mentions of sex genre: fluff ; angst ; hints of smut word count: 1.4k+
a/n: heeeey babes, I hope you like it!!!
son hyunwoo
Hyunwoo actually wouldn't have even realized that you were gone if it weren't for your laugh echoing through the apartment.
A quick look on his phone made him get up despite the early hour in the morning, wondering what the hell was going on.
And when he entered the kitchen, he found you and Changkyun chatting with a cup of tea, laughing like you were the best of friends, despite never having met each other, since you and Hyunwoo had only started dating about four weeks ago.
“Hyung, why did you never tell us about (Y/N)? She's awesome.”
“I would have,” he said, then wrapping an arm around your shoulder to, probably, prove a point, “Eventually.”
The corner of your mouth curled into a smile at how protective he suddenly was, but not even in an intimidating way, more of in a.. cute one.
Changkyun continued to smile, “I'll leave you two to it, then. It was very nice to meet you.”
“Likewise,” you waited until he was gone, then you turned your head to your boyfriend, “You were a little loud last night, apparently.”
“What?! I thought nobody was home!”
“You thought wrong,” you giggled, even harder when he blushed.
shin hoseok
Hoseok didn't panic when you weren't next to him the morning after your first night together, mostly because you've been with each other long enough to know that you weren't after sex only and also, because you had been screaming your goddamn lungs out last night, so you definitely enjoyed yourself.
No, he found you standing in the kitchen and making him breakfast.
His arms wrapped around you from behind, gently beginning to kiss your neck.
“Smells good.”
“It's pancakes.”
“I meant you,” he grinned.
“Cheesy,” you turned around in his arms, a soft smile on your face, “Did you sleep well?”
“Like a baby,” he had been so exhausted, he fell asleep right afterwards. And since he did not have a schedule today, his plan was to just stay in bed with you all day long and just.. relax.
Which he deserved..
lee minhyuk
Minhyuk and you had been seeing each other for a while now, but only yesterday did you sleep with each other for the first time.
It was romantic, it was glorious and he had never had a more intense orgasm than with you last night.
But when you weren't with him the next morning, he knew that something was wrong. Call it.. intuition.
He kept telling you that you were his soulmate, so maybe that's why he always knew when you were upset or the likes.
He found you in the living room, a small tear escaping your eye and Minhyuk immediately sprinted towards you and wrapped you up in his arms.
“No, no, no, no, what's wrong? Tell me!”
“Someone must have seen us at the restaurant last night.. they took pictures and..-” you showed him.
The hate.
Not even the articles, you didn't care about those. You just saw all the hate that was suddenly directed towards you.
“(Y/N), you know how this works. This will be a thing for a few days and then everyone will have forgotten about it,” he threw the phone to the other end of the couch and pulled you closer, “Don't let them ruin our happiness, love. The haters don't deserve that.”
He was right.. of course he was. But it still took a lot of cuddles and forehead kisses to make it go away, at least temporarily.
yoo kihyun
Kihyun reached out across the bed, thinking he'd find the warmth of you that he felt so close to him last night, but instead his hand was met with cold and empty sheets.
He tried to force his eyes open, tried looking around for you while he sleepily lulled out your name a couple of times, only to hear nothing but silence in response.
Were you okay? Did something happen maybe? Last night was your first time, but he had been extremely careful, he had stopped midway when he felt your discomfort grow and you were so thankful then, told him you enjoyed it nevertheless.
So it couldn't be that.. right?
Kihyun, now a lot more awake, pushed the blankets aside and wandered through the apartment.
But he didn't have to look far, because there you were, in the living room with a bowl of cereal, a blanket draped over your legs and wide eyes when you saw him enter.
Kihyun furrowed his eyebrows, looked to the TV, then back to you.
“It's the season finale.. I couldn't wait, they uploaded it an hour ago,” you said and even though it probably wasn't intended, the way you said it made Kihyun want to squish your cheeks because of how cute and innocent you were in that moment.
He chuckled and sat down next to you, “Let's watch it together, then.”
chae hyungwon
Hyungwon wandered through the apartment like a zombie, his mind not being fully there yet, but still wanting to check on you.
He searched for you in every room, only to figure out that you were in the bathroom.
“(Y/N)?” he knocked, “Can I come in?”
“Yeah, sure.”
And what he found was you sitting in the bathtub with a book and a smile on your lips.
“Are you.. enjoying yourself?”
“Very much so,” you grinned, “I was a bit sore, so I figured this would help.”
“Is it bad?” he sat down on the edge of the tub, pushing a strand of hair behind your ear.
“No, it's okay.. it just gave me an excuse to try your super expensive bathtub.”
Hyungwon was still tired, but the thought of getting into that bath with you awakened certain parts of him that made him get up, lock the bathroom door and then join you.
At first there were only giggles, then silence and eventually moans that could be heard from within the bathroom.
lee jooheon
Jooheon wanted to cuddle. Something that he was so excited about last night when you fell asleep in his arms, was how you would wake up in them again and how he could pull you close and..-
Nothing.
Because you weren't there.
He was so disappointed, because his immediate thought was that you had left.
And given your circumstances and your 'relationship', he would have understood.
You and Jooheon had been playing this game for months. You weren't really a thing, last night it had just ended in sex. But he liked you, more than he could ever admit to you.. for now at least. Maybe, just maybe, he had thought, that this would be a step forward in your relationship.
He laid there, wallowing in self-pity, until the door to his bedroom got opened and you walked in.
Jooheon looked at you with big eyes, whereas you just laughed.
“What's that look for?”
“I.. thought you left.”
“Left? No, I just went to the bathroom,” you chuckled, laying back down and cuddling into his side like he had wanted you to.
Maybe this was a chance after all.
im changkyun
Changkyun was upset, maybe even a little angry when you weren't there. You had told him countless of times that this wouldn't be just a one-night-stand, but maybe you had been lying all along.
He angrily made his way into the living room where he had left his phone last night, only to stop when he heard your voice. You were talking to someone.. on the phone maybe?
“Is there nobody else that can do it? I'm.. a little busy today,” a moment of silence, “No, sir, I understand, it's just..- Yes, sir. I'll be there.”
And when you turned around with a sigh, you saw Changkyun standing there.
“What's going on?”
“My boss,” you said with a sad smile, “Even on my day off he needs me.”
“So you didn't just leave because of last night?”
“What? No!” you immediately took three big steps until you were right in front of him and could wrap your arms around his neck, “What I said last night was the truth. I want this to work.. but I just.. have responsibilities, just like you do.”
“I get that,” he nodded with a sigh, “Maybe stop by later tonight? We could have dinner together?”
“That sounds good.. very good.”
Run A Rig: Part One
He wanted the title, and the Captain wanted to be anything but idle.
The Siren wanted the sea, and the liar wanted all to be free.
They wanted their brother back, but each journey is more perilous than the last.
The Serpent’s Song is a ship for many, and at the same time a ship for none. Because when everyone runs a rig, nothing true can be done.
Part One
He had been born for this.
His mother had given birth to him here, on the ship when a storm had stranded them too far from shore. He has grown up here, watching in awe as all the true pirates around him lived out their daily adventure.
His mother had taught him how to sail, how to read maps, how to run a ship. While his father had taught him how to use a cutlass, use a pistol, and how to be a true Captain.
All his life he had reaped the benefits of being the Captain’s son.
So why wasn’t he being made Captain?
He watched his father smile as he swung an arm around Logan’s shoulder a large smile on his face.
“What’s yer first order as Cap’n?” His father asked.
Logan smiled in return, “Kicking ye the hell off me ship!”
A laugh erupted in return but he just couldn’t bring himself to join in.
“Ye gave away me ship.”
His father raised an eyebrow as he entered the Captain’s cabin, “A ship is earned, not given. I taught you that.”
“Ye gave it to Logan! Him of all people! Logan belonged to me ! Ye gave me him as a present!”
“Aye,” his father nodded. “I had planned to kill the little stowaway, but I had thought ye’d like someone yer own age. So I gave ‘im to ye. But he proved himself. He is smart, and skilled and he’s tried harder than anyone else. He proved himself... more than ye ever have Dante.”
“Ye bilge rat! ”
His father’s eyes narrowed as he stood his hand on his cutlass’ hilt as he did, “I dare ye to speak such words again.”
Dee faltered taking a step back against the door before he spoke again, “This ship was supposed to be mine .”
“The Serpent's Song is better off with ye as far from being Captain as possible.”
Each word was a blow.
Quite frankly Dee would have preferred his father running him through with that sword. Because even days later as they dropped his parents at the port, he could still feel them.
“Ye hate me.”
Logan didn’t phrase it as a question.
Dee didn’t move or even look up from where he sat on the bowsprit looking at the water below, “I don’t know if hate is the right word.”
“Yer going to fall sitting there.”
“Ye always say that, and yet I never have.”
“I can’t give ye Captain,” Logan said after a short pause. “Not after yer father...” he gave a sigh. “but how does first mate sound?”
“Patronizing.”
He heard as Logan gave a chuckle, “I guess it would. But the offer is there. I don’t want to have to give it to someone else.”
“Feel free too.”
Logan left then, a sigh spilling from his lips as he did. Leaving Dee alone with his thoughts, the ocean air, and the setting sun.
“You wish to be Captain?”
The voice stirred Dee awake and he hurriedly grabbed onto the bowsprit before he could fall from it. He gave a deep breath to calm himself as he pulled himself back up on the deck and looked out at the starry sky.
How long had been sitting there?
“Do you wish to be Captain?”
The voice pierced itself through his psyche once more and Dee searches for its owner. The others on the deck were in the back at the helm with Logan, so it was too far away for it to be them.
“You’re jealous of him. He’s only where he is today because of you. And you want that.”
Dee grit his teeth as he leaned back over the side and his eyes widened as he noticed the figure down below. It was hard to make out in the moonlight, but it almost looked like a person.
But despite how far away he was, his voice still rang clear in Dee’s ears.
“I can make you Captain. I can make you all that and more... jump down here and we can talk about it.”
Dee’s eyes narrowed as he understood, “Siren.”
He could hear the laugh he got in return. It was light, it was kind, it was friendly . “I can make you into someone even greater than your father.”
“I’m not stupid!” Dee called down at the creature.
“No one ever said you are. But perhaps that’s what your father was implying.”
Dee bit his lip as he forced himself to take a step away. He was going to go to his cabin, and get some sleep.
“Running from your problems? What will that accomplish? Do you plan to run from being first mate too? Are you hung to become a lowly deckhand when you could be in charge?”
Dee took a step forward, then another, then another.
“Logan was once your pet... but no w I suppose I should congratulate you on becoming his.”
The water was cold and it gave him a sudden shock but Dee paid it no mind as he drew his dagger swimming towards the creature.
The siren only smiled at him, baring it’s pointy teeth. Up close Dee could see his scales were a brilliant purple, but he didn’t care enough to stare as he slashed at it only for its head to duck below the waves.
Dee paused, treading water trying to figure out where it went-
He was pulled beneath the waves before he could process it. He bent slashing wildly on instinct and was rewarded with the hand releasing him. He kicked to the surface and he was vaguely aware of someone shouting for him.
“You’ll pay for that.”
Dee smiled out at the water as he readied his dagger. “Make me wench .”
“Dee!”
Dee glanced up as he noticed Logan descending Jacob’s Ladder. “What the fuck are ye doing?” He shouted.
“There’s a siren!” Dee yelled back. “And I’m going to fucking kill it! Get back on the ship!”
“Ye first!”
“Since when do I take orders from ye?”
“Since I became ye Captain!”
Dee’s eyes narrowed before he went back to focusing on the environment around him, “Then I’ll take me chances with the siren.”
“Ye insolent knave!” Logan shouted back descending further.
Dee was going to respond when a shimmer caught his eye. He lunged toward it- but the siren was faster.
And Logan’s neck was in his scaled hand.
Dee’s grip on the dagger tightened almost painfully as he watched the creature smile. “Let him go.”
“Why?” The siren challenged. “I thought you wanted to be Captain.”
“If I wanted him dead I’d do it myself.”
“Oh I see,” it cooed. “You love him.”
Dee threw himself forward, but instead of going for its face he dove beneath and stabbed the siren in its tail.
It gave a howl of pain which could be heard under the water before it lashed out, its long nails digging deep into Dee’s in the face. But Dee ignored it as he twisted in his blade.
Hands pulled him back to the surface and he rose gasping for air as Logan dragged him toward the ladder. Dee closed his eye to keep the blood from dripping in as he looked to the siren to a net thrown down around it.
~~~~
“Fighting a siren! How stupid are ye?”
“Where did they throw it?” Dee asked in response. “I will kill it.”
Logan gave him a glare, “Ye will do nothing of the sort. We’ll wait until we reach port, and then we’ll sell it. There’s no point in killing it... Not to mention ye need a rest a bit.”
Dee’s gaze fell to the floor as touched the bandaged side of his face, “I’m fine.”
“Fine people don’t jump off ships to fight sirens. Ye could have died! If it hadn’t killed ye, ye would’ve been keelhauled if I hadn’t seen ye jump!”
“Why did ye follow me?”
“Because yer outta yer mind.”
“Ye got hurt because of me.”
Logan gave a sigh, “I chose to go down there Dee.”
“Ye shouldn’t have.”
“What kind of Captain would I be if I didn’t try to help my only friend?”
Friend.
Dee shook his head, “Can I at least talk to it, Captain ?”
He glanced to look up at Logan's surprised face, “Come morning,” he answered. “Come morning.”
~~~~
Despite what Logan had said, Dee had found his way down to where the siren was being held, and he was surprised to hear voices from inside.
“You’re quite stupid for a Captain.”
“Oh?”
“Yes, a good Captain would never go save a crewmen himself. He’d order the others to- that is if he decides to save the man at all.”
“Ye know many pirates I take it?” Came Logan’s mocking tone.
Dee slowly moved closer and peered in the open crack at the door. From the lantern glow he could see Logan sitting across from a basin of water.
The siren had changed forms.
Gone were those purple scales and long tail. Instead two legs stuck out of where it was sitting in a large tub of water. One of the legs was bandaged as was it’s hand. But most shocking of all was the fact that he was naked.
“I’ve killed a great many, yes,” he shrugged the chain around his wrists clanking as he did. “They’re usually the easiest to catch. And I nearly had that pet of yours too.”
“He’s not a pet,” Logan said shortly.
“Ah yes of course, I’m sorry you’re his pet aren’t you?”
“Ye-”
“You were young and a stowaway. Running from the brothel and the strumpet you were birthed to. That ship she always spoke was leaving and it was your chance. So you took it. And you’ve regretted ever since. All you’ve wanted since that moment was to return and find your mother. To apologize... But you can’t. And you never will .”
“Unless I let ye go?”
“Oh no, I’d expect no such thing from you.”
“Then what do ye expect?”
“For you to accomplish your goal. For you to burn your father’s ship and legacy to the ground.”
Dee watched in confusion and he saw as the siren’s purple eyes met his in the doorway, but in front of Dee Logan hadn’t seemed to notice.
“I don’t know what yer talking about.”
“There’s no need to lie with me Logan,” The siren purred. “I already know what you want, and all that goes with it... but does he know?”
“He doesn’t need to know anything.”
“But I’m sure he has some questions.”
“And I don’t care.”
Logan rolled his eyes and rose from his seat, and Dee scrambled away, back toward his cabin.
~~~~
“What were ye talking to Logan about, siren?”
The siren raised an eyebrow and now up close Dee could see his short hair was a deep purple, as were his eyes. Both seemed to serve as proof that he wasn’t human.
“I do not call you ‘human’,” he replied. “I do have a name.”
“And I don’t care to know it.”
“Ah, so your brother received all the manners I see?”
Dee raised an eyebrow in confusion, “I don’t have a brother.”
“Oh? Apologies, I must’ve have been horribly mistaken.”
“Just tell me what’s going on.”
“Why don’t you ask your Captain?”
Dee paused, “Logan doesn’t talk about his past... was what ye said true?”
The siren gave him a smile and Dee could see some of his teeth still were pointed, “And what would I gain from doing so? Regardless of if I choose to help you or not, I will be sold once we reach port.”
“Ye words won’t have an affect on me this time,” Dee said shaking his head.
The siren gave a shrug, “Worth a shot.”
Dee gave an eye roll as thought occurred to him, “I thought ye sirens were supposed to sing to yer prey? Meanwhile ye just talk a lot.”
The siren stared blankly back, “I can sing if I wanted to. But you’re so simple I don’t have a need.”
“You spoke to him?” Logan asked. “Did ye actually gain anything from it?”
Dee shook his head, “No, but I did want to say I’m sorry.”
Logan raised an eyebrow amused, “Would ye like to repeat that? Perhaps in front of the crew?”
Dee rolled his eyes, “I want to be ye first mate.”
Logan paused and turned to look him in the eye, “Are ye plotting a mutiny?”
“ I was born a pirate.”
Logan gave a nod accepting the answer as he stared out at the open water, “Good. I will need ye help the most... Because I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
“Become the best captain in history?”
Logan shook his head, “Ye have always been good at dumbing things down to be as simple as ye.”
“I’m not simple. And why isn’t that simple? Yer a Cap’n now.”
“I’d always thought ye’d be the youngest Captain of the age and I’d be one of yer hands... Never thought I’d be given the Serpent’s Song.”
“A ship is earned,” Dee corrected. “And according me father ye earned it. But perhaps if he had waited two years so I could reach ye age, I could’ve done even better.”
“Sure.”
“I know what ye need! After we get that annoying siren off our hands at port, we’ll get ye some proper Captain clothes. The coat, the hat, it all.”
“I’m not a flashy person Dee.”
“Ye don’t have a choice. Ye still look like a hand right now.”
“...Fine.”

Teen Titans AU Part 12
This chapter is longer since I’ve taken longer to update! Today we’ll meet a certain redeemed blonde Bee miraculous holder. Maybe she’ll have a love interest 😉.
Gabriel Agreste had been working with Slade for a while. He knew who the traitor of the Titans was and he knew all the information given. He also knew that Marinette Dupain-Cheng was Ladybug, it was too risky to tell his son though. They needed Ladybug removed and if he knew his so-called ‘princess’ was Ladybug he might refuse to fight her or hesitate. In the end, Gabriel always knew what was best for his son and his grand plan. He chuckled to himself as he walked the streets of Jump City, until he finally made it to his destination. He was in need of a certain Italian girl’s assistance.
“Ah!!!! Guys they’re online! They’re online!” Jon screamed at the top of his lungs. “Coming!!!” Garfield yelled as he shoved a pancake into his mouth. The team assembled in the common room as Jon hit the accepted the video call. There on the screen was a smiling Marinette with hair in twin braids and a scowling Damian who seemed to be...holding Marinette’s hand?! Raven gave a sly smile as Gar grumbled and discretely passed her twenty dollars. “So when did that happen?” Raven asked in a monotone with a hint of a smirk on her face. Marinette blushed, “I-I guess technically yesterday.” Damian glared at Raven, but he had a nagging feeling once again, guilt. It was awful, he felt...bad for Jon, especially after telling him he didn’t want to date Marinette. He felt almost like he had lied to Marinette, what if she wanted to be with Jon but thought that he didn’t like her so Damian was her only option?! “Oh.” Jon coughed. “Anyway,” Marinette said oblivious to the situation, “We wanted to catch up with everyone. Maybe individually if that’s alright with you guys?” The team took the bait, “Of course! I need some Mari time!” Gar exclaimed doing some jazz hands, “And Damian time too of course.” Marinette giggled but then realized, Gar could be the mole. She sighed and knew when she found out who the traitor was, it would hurt like hell. Jamie shoved the computer away from the rest of the team. “Me first, I have something I want to run through you guys.” Marinette nodded kindly and Damian’s face held the same amount of brooding on it as before. Before the others could protest Jamie took the computer to his room.
“Sorry, this is really important and I think you’ll want to know.” He took a deep breath, “So I asked my scarab if searching for miraculouses could be done since you mentioned you’re missing some. You won’t believe where it found a bunch.” Damian raised an eyebrow, “Spit it out Reyes.” Jamie rolled his eyes, “Ok ok. A storage unit in slightly south of here. An hour out from Gotham and an hour out from Jump City. The scarab said that both the horse miraculous and butterfly are active. I didn’t know if that meant anything to you.” Marinette nodded though she was internally freaking out, she really hoped Gabriel hadn’t gotten out of prison. “Thanks Jamie. I’ll have to get them as soon as possible. This is extremely important. In the wrong hands the miracle box is the most dangerous weapon ever. Although if only two miraculouses are active that means Hawkmoth has only one other co-conspirator, I’m guessing Slade.” Marinette’s mind went at 100 miles a minute, she’d need to find the box as soon as possible.
Jamie nodded and smiled, he went back to the room to give the computer to someone else. Damian muted it, “You know we were supposed to stick to the plan.” Marinette nodded and squeezed her boyfriend’s hand, “I know Dami but it can’t be him if his scarab can track miraculouses. Chat Noir would already have mine.” Damian scowled and unmuted the computer.
Everyone else passed by easily, Damian and Marinette gave each of them a different location where they were ‘hiding’ the Ladybug miraculous. The plan was off without a hitch, all they had to do was wait, well wait and Damian had to talk to Jon. Marinette had gone downstairs to clear her head, she still couldn’t believe someone who she’d been living with betrayed her and the team. Jon got on the computer, he didn’t look too mad so Damian was slightly relieved. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Jon depanned. “I-I it just happened. I’m sorry, I really wanted to tell you.” Jon nodded and then sighed, “It’ll take awhile but I’ll get over Marinette. If anybody I’m glad she’s dating you. Besides,” he said cracking a smile, “I won the bet.” Damian stared at him confused. Jon laughed, “We’ve had this bet ever since I got to the tower. Betting on if you’d ever date anybody. Most people said no, but Raven and I said yes and we both are twenty bucks richer.” Damian scowled, “You bet on me?!” Jon cracked up and nodded. “Anyway, why did you talk to everybody individually. It was super weird.” Damian crossed his arms, “The Titans have a mole.”
Jon’s eyes widened, “W-what?! Since when? Who?! Are you sure?!” Damian rolled his eyes, “I don’t know when or who but I am sure. That’s what we’ve been trying to find out. Don’t make me regret telling you and don’t tip off the rest of the team!” Jon nodded still in a stupor. Marinette hopped back upstairs and into the room, she sat down next to her boyfriend and waved, “Hey Jon!” Jon smiled, “Hey Marinette, how's it going?” “Pretty good. Sorry I’ll have to cut this short, I realized it’s almost time for lunch. What do you want Damian?” Damian shook his head, “You know Alfred can go out for that.” Marinette shrugged, “I need to stretch my legs.” Damian nodded, he was slightly concerned, but he knew she needed this because she had been so stressed since the mole debacle. “I don’t want you running off alone in Gotham. I’m coming with you.” Marinette giggled, “Okay, I’d be fine if you didn’t come though.” Damian patted her on the shoulder, “I know Angel, but you can’t help me being paranoid.” Jon smiled, he had to admit they were a cute couple, “I’ll let you guys go then. Bye!” Marinette waved and Jon hung up. “Ready?” Marinette asked standing up. “Sure. Where’d you want to go?” Marinette tapped her chin, “Since you’re coming maybe we could go somewhere, you know for our first real date.” Damian blushed, “Any places in mind?” “Well you know the area better than me, but how about Gotham Diner? It’s near the fashion district.” Damian chuckled, “Sounds perfect Angel.”
Marinette grabbed her bags, they ended up going into stores before they ate and of course Marinette bought new fabrics. Damian insisted on paying but Marinette refused, he pouted and said he’d pay for lunch. Marinette giggled and agreed. As Marinette walked down the street, sunshine radiating off of her, Damian followed smiling a little to himself. Gothamites gawked as they saw the Ice Prince with his girlfriend, they were surprised he could smile, that he had a girlfriend and that he was back in Gotham. Some people snuck pictures. As Marinette walked, with Damian in tow a blonde girl with her hair cut in a short bob squealed and ran up to her. Damian was shocked and they Marinette and the blonde started talking excitedly in France, he almost didn’t catch it.
“Dupain-Cheng!” Squealed the blonde. “Chlo?” Marientte turned to see her ex-bully turned best friend. She thrust her into a hug and squeezed her. “Look Dupain-Cheng Im glad to see you too, but I do like breathing,” Chloe strained. Marinette released her, “Sorry it’s just that I haven’t seen you in so long. Wait, what are you doing in Gotham?” Chloé narrowed her eyes, “Could ask you the same question DC and who’s this?” She asked motioning to Damian. “That’s Damian,” Marinette exclaimed, “my boyfriend.” Although Marinette turned pink and rushed her statement a little Chloé screamed, “FIRST YOU’RE IN GOTHAM WITHOUT TELLING ME AND NOW YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND! THAT’S IT WE’RE CATCHING UP NOW!” Chloé grabbed Marinette by the arm and stormed off. Damian stood there in a stupor, his girlfriend was just sister-snatched before his eyes. Chloé whipped her head back, “You coming or not?!” Damian didn’t say anything, he knew from his family that you do not mess with strong willed women like Chloé, he followed obediently like a dog.
Chloé led them to a small café where she sat down at the closet empty table. She sat down and wasted no time, “Why are you in Gotham Dupain-Cheng?!” Marinette giggled, she’d always enjoyed Chloé’s...directness. “Damian took me here to meet his family?” Chloé narrowed her eyes, “You!” She pointed at Damian, “How long have you been dating Maribug?” Damian’s eyes widened, “What’d you call her?” Chloé hissed in Marinette’s face, “He doesn’t know?” Marinette sighed, “He does, and we’ve been dating since yesterday but we’ve known each other for months. Anyway, Damian this is Chloé otherwise known as Queen Bee, and Chloé this is Damian, he does have a name.” Chloé rolled her eyes, “Whatever. You do realize it’s stupid to go with some random guy to a different city right?!” Marinette nodded, “Damian’s not-“ “Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous. Stop going off with random dudes Maribug! And don’t tell them you’re identity!” Chloé flicked her in the head. “Um Chloé, I distinctly remember you telling everyone you’re Queen Bee.” Chloé rolled her eyes once again, “That’s different Dupain-Cheng, you know I can’t hide this fabulosity.” Chloé flipped her hair as Marientte giggled, “But you still shouldn’t tell random people that you’re Ladybug!” Damian decided to step in, “I’m not a random person.” “Excuse me?!” Chloé said, turning shooting daggers with her eyes. “I said I’m not a random person.” Damian repeated plainly. Marinette shrank down in her seat as Damian and Chloé continued their intense staring contest. “He’s a keeper Maribug.” Damian shook Chloé’s outstretched hand. “Chloé Bourgeois, daughter of Paris’s mayor and fashion designer Audrey Bourgeois.” Damian nodded, “Damian...Wayne.” Chloé sprung up from her chair, “You bagged a Wayne?! Yes Maribug, way to use what I taught you! He’s definitely a keeper!” Marinette started cracking up until Chloé saw a shadowy figure in the distance. “Don’t look now but I think a certain alley cat followed us. Why is he here anyway?!” Chloé scowled. “I recently joined a team, ever since then he’s been getting intel from one of them about my whereabouts.” Marinette sighed. “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! RIDICULOUS, UTTERLY RIDICULOUS! GET ME MY MIRACULOUS I’M GOING TO KILL THIS TEAMMATE AND THIS STUPID CAT!” Damian cracked a smile, finally something he could agree on. “Chloé, no killing. But I might be able to get your miraculous back. Once we deal with a certain black cat we can find the miracle box, Damian pull up the location Jamie said the box was.” Damian obliged and pulled up a map. “Got it, but what will we do about that idiot?” Damian asked while motioning to Chat. Chloé smirked deviously. “I’ve got a couple ideas.”

let’s dig into this one
So the timeline for this is a bit strange, but this is when Clay discovered the Truth about Eve and Adam, about the origins of humanity, and the precursors themselves. It’s kind of subtly implied in the last memory that Clay was just starting to dig deeper and deeper, searching more and more into his genetic memory until he found the Truth. Additionally, Clay’s Bleeding Effect was out of control due to being forced to spend so much time in the Animus, and he was able to unintentionally access older memories, including that of Adam, his direct ancestor. Now, I’m not exactly sure if Juno gave him the Truth, or she found him while he was spelunking in his genetic memory, but either way, this is how she finds him.
And this is where Juno informs him that it’s his fate to die to pass on a message to Desmond, and that this message can only be passed on with his death. He tried to fight it, but Juno also informed him about Lucy’s true allegiances, thus ensuring that he would never actually leave Abstergo. And also do exactly what Juno wants.
I’m just. Gonna.
Along the way we hear a conversation between Clay and his father, with Clay excitedly telling him that he’s doing “real work” with William and Rebecca, only to be shot down and just... Sighs. The way that Harold just insists that money is what’s important, and then demanding that Clay support “this family”... We find out that Clay’s mother left, and like. With that, it becomes kind of clear that Clay isn’t supporting his family so much as being guilted into giving his father money. It just!! It sucks!! Because Clay was clearly desperate for a support system, for friends, a family, and he thought he found that with the Assassins! Except he got used and chewed up and spit out again!!
We find an email from Clay’s mother, and ... phew.
From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: explanation
Dear Clay, It's your mother. I hear things are going well for you at work. It seems like you're impressing everyone. I always knew you'd be important. Not much to miss here. It rained earlier today. I had to rush to close the upstairs windows before the bedroom soaked through. Your fathers renovation is nearly finished. All these cupboards to put stuff in. dinner will be a real party. Im sure you're wondering why I'm emailing you out of the blue for the first time and talking about the rain and dinner. I'm not exactly comfortable talking to you about thiss. I had to drink one and two rum and cokes before getting on here. You and Harold. You've always liked Harold. I did too but I cant forgive him like you. We never go out anymore. I have to take care of him. He doesn't want my help. This wasn't supposed tobe my life. Raising you and him. Two baby boys. I'm sorry I wrote that but it's truw. You'be always done such a good job taking care of your father. If I stay here I wan't make it clay. forgive me. By the time you read this I'll be on the road. Know that I still liove you. Mom
Sighs like. I kinda want to be mad at her, but more than anything I’m just looking at the Kaczmarek family and just coming to the conclusion that none of them need to be together or live together. Like -- it’s a story that’s all together too common, and rather unremarkable because of it. A dad and husband that has to be babied and practically raised, a son with expectations thrust onto him without any thought for what he wants... It hurts, but what hurts worse is the fact that this happens all the time. It’s not special. And Clay knew that. It’s why he went so hard for the Assassins.
Something that’s interesting is that during Clay’s talk with his father, you can find a code imprinted onto the wall, written in braille.
It reads "The truth is constructed from lies” and there’s a couple different ways that that can be interpreted.
I think the first thing I thought of was like... the concept of “history is written by the winners” and how the truth that we know in our day to day lives is probably not actually true, just created out of an attempt to lie to ourselves over what history actually is like. My next thought was that Lord of the Rings opening monologue of “And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth.“ and relating it back to how the story of Eve and Adam is actually a war of rebellion in the AC universe, only to be slowly transformed into a creation myth in various religions.
Another thing to consider is the fact that this was found while Clay was talking to his dad about the Assassins (albeit indirectly), and the Creed being “Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted” is something that should be taken into account as well. The way it’s written in braille also brings to mind the phrase “blind to the truth” in my opinion, which Clay certainly was blind to what was actually going with William, and Lucy.
The second code you can see is after you find the letter from Clay’s mother, and it’s the greek letter theta, Θ, in it’s capital form. You see it as you’re traversing a gap, and have to dodge around the pillars as the platform you’re on passes through them.
Historically, it was used in classical Athens as an abbreviation for θάνατος, Thanatos, the Greek god of the dead. It was used as a warning sign for death, similar to the skull-and-crossbones is used now. It survives on potsherds where people would vote for the death penalty by marking Θ on the tile.
Directly after this symbol is seen, you hear one final exchange between Clay and Juno.
Clay: I can see. What has been, what will be. Juno: Then what you must do is clear. Help Desmond Miles. Clay: I... No. Not me. I refuse! Juno: Thousands of years this message waited. Soon its promise shall be fulfilled. Go forth, with eyes open to all but the truth.
Now, this is a bit of something. What Clay is seeing is the Calculations, a catch all term for how the Precursors managed to project themselves into the future form when they were. It’s briefly mentioned by Jupiter that Minerva was always better at the Calculations than him, that it was “always her domain.”
The way the Calculations work is like... hm. If you know the weight of a knife, the speed at which you throw it, the wind resistance on that day, you can pretty accurately predict where it lands, right? The Precursors managed to do that for everything. They mathed so hard that they predicted the future.
The writers confirmed that part of Clay’s insanity, in addition to the Bleeding Effect, was because he saw too many of the Calculations, and that his line about “The sun... your son..” was a reference to what he saw. Now, this gets into a bit of like, meta knowledge, because at the time, ac3 wasn’t out yet. But the DLC of “The Tyranny of King Washington” is related, because it’s a possible future that was Calculated into existence, and that the Apple let Connor see. So the Calculations aren’t just visions, it’s possible to, with the right equipment, actually experience these things.
But also, I can’t help but wonder -- did Juno maybe force Clay to see the Calculations, in order to manipulate him into seeing the messages she needed passed on? To sort of break him into being more pliable and thus less resistant to her desires? And what did she mean, “eyes open to all but the truth”? [shakes the screen] give me answers dammit
Food for thought. A lot of thought.

Can I get a Gallangdon fic filled with love and angst please?
Okay so I had this sitting on my phone since yesterday but I was too lazy to post it so copy and paste is going to be my friend for this ask....
'I wouldn't fuck you even if you were the last man on Earth and you almost are'
Gal has that one sentence playing in his head throughout the night as he lays awake in bed. He huffs as he turns on his side
"I'll show you you jerk"
In the morning as everyone wakes up and gets ready for breakfast, Gal completely ignores Michael and his smirks heading straight for Coco to go and bitch to her about what happened when he was going through interrogation.
"okay don't look but Langdon is totally surprised"
Gal just shrugs it off as he continues eating. At first he thought that not giving a fuck was due to him being hungry and the Cooperative being kind and supplying proper food but then he remembered that if Michael wanted to act like a jerk then he can too.
"good. He deserves it"
"you two have a fight or something?"
"no Mallory. I'm just so done with men at the moment. Now that doesn't mean I'm going bi or straight. It just means that I'm taking a long break."
"well good for you Gal. "
Gal feels good right up until he hears the familiar steps of the last person he wants to be around right now.
"Mr Gallant I believe we haven't finished our interview"
"yes we have. Im counting the interrogation room apart of it therefore we have finished"
"wait n-"
Gal stands up
"now if you'll excuse me, I need to speak to Me Venable about something. See you ladies"
Both Mallory and Coco wave goodbye before going into conversation about something completely missing Michael's confused face.
The moment Michael is out of view Gal heads over to Andre and Stu
"I need a good dicking boys. Who's up for it?"
The couple raise their brows at Gals request.
30 minutes later Gal is on Andres lap as both men are moving in synch as they fuck Gal at the same time. All 3 of them are so into it that they don't see a figure glaring at them by the door. Afterwards Gal thanks the men before returning to his room to get some sleep.
Gal is woken up later on by Coco who rushes him out the door because Ms Venable has announcement. Gal still ignores Michael as he sits down next Mallory followed by Coco.
Venable talks about new things the Cooperative are sending their way while Michael goes through the interviews and preparing for the move to the safe Haven.
"this also includes bath tubs that were delivered early hours of this morning. They have supplied 4 tubs and we have opened up to extra rooms. 2 bath tubs in each room. One for the women and the other for the men. They have also supplied us with more food for the week and tonight's menu will be roast pork with veges. While that is being prepared today's lunch will be the cubes and I don't want anyone to complain otherwise the roast will be cancelled"
Venable goes on for a bit longer before she gets word the tubs are set up and dismisses everyone saying she is going to use the tub first and would like privacy in the women's bathroom with the exception of Ms Mead.
Gal decides to hang with the girls while the guys fight over who gets to use the tubs first, well with the exception of Michael who retreated to his room saying he had stuff to attend to.
Gal giggles as he watches the men leaving.
"seriously there's 3 of them, 2 tubs and let's mention 2 of them are a couple so they can share"
"so where were you today when you left? I saw Ms Venable and she said you hadn't spoken with her"
"oh that was just to get away from the jerk. No I was doing something far better than talking with the no longer kill joy"
They sat there talking right up until lunch. After lunch the girls went to go and fight over the bath tub while Gal went to the men's room. He was laughing when he heard that his joke came true so it meant he would have the room to himself.
He walks in closing the door before stripping down and getting the bath ready. When the tub is filled a descent amount he bends over to turn the taps off before letting out yelp at a voice behind him.
"it makes you wonder doesn't it? How did this place get clean water during an apocalypse?"
After Gal calms down he actually ponders on the questions as he stands up straight. 'that is true but then again nothing happened to the boys or Ms venable so it can't be that bad'
His thoughts go on a momentary pause as he is reminded by a cold breeze that he is standing in the middle of a candle lit room naked with the last person he wants to see right now.
"how long have you been standing there?"
"long enough to know to that you didn't realize it actually wasn't you who closed the door upon entering"
"you could have said something"
"and where would the fun in that be?"
"you are a jerk"
"so you keep saying"
"it's great to always get reminders od something important"
After a moment of silence Gal huffs
"so you plan on making yourself a bath or stand there and watch me?"
Gal goes from annoyed to shocked as he watches Michael strip down and then goes right back to being annoyed as Michael hops in the bath and he was going to use.
"come here Mr Gallant"
"or even better how about you hop out and make your own"
"oh come on. I don't bite"
"fine. Then I'll make my own"
Gal turns to head towards the other tub when out of a blink of an eye a hand reaches out for him and drags him into the tub. He feels his face heating up and thinks he's blushing as he finds his naked self sitting on the lap of an equally naked man.
"what the hell Langdon?"
"there's enough space for the both of us. Infact there is enough to fit a 3rd person"
"doesn't mean we need to do it. I could have made another one"
"it's not that bad princess"
Gal's breath hitches as he feels arms wrap around him and a hot breath close to his ear.
"you've been ignoring me and leaving when I enter a room all day. What's your problem?"
"you are my problem"
After a couple of seconds Gal hears a laugh
"is this about yesterday? You really are pathetic aren't you"
"says the man who has probably been trying to talk to me non stop today and had to result in dragging him into a bath tub with him just to have a conversation"
"watch your mouth pretty boy. I can break your neck with just a snap of a finger"
"good for you. I'm leaving"
Gal tries to get up but the arms around him hold him down.
"let me go"
"no"
"I swear to God"
"would you?"
"that's it"
In a blind side of anger Gal turns around on Michael's lap and growls. Michael looks surprised for a moment before a smirk replaces his shocked features.
"there's the real Gal"
"I'll show you the real Gal"
Gal slaps Michael hard enough that Michael let's go long enough for Gal to make his escape.
"that wasn't the real Gal. I don't hit people but this is"
Gal heads towards the door and ignores Michael's "so you are just going to walk away like the scared little bitch you are" making a beeline towards Andres room slamming the door open and jumping on the bed. A second later he feels Andre and Stu lay on either side of him so he turns to lay on his back.
"men suck"
"yeah we do honey but that doesn't stop anyone from falling in love with us"
"is this about Michael?"
"how do you know?"
"Coco told us"
"of course"
"did you want some comfort sex?"
"no cuddles would be nice though"
Gal falls asleep once he calms down and misses the worried looks the other two give him. He also misses w figure standing by the door once again glaring.
Lord knows what time it is when Gal wakes up and finds himself not only not in Andres room but also not in his room either. He sits up and looks around and finds that he is in Coco's room and gets up to search for her. He finds her and Mallory by the doorway.
"hey what's happening?"
"shhhh"
"what's wrong?" He whispers
"word got to Ms Venable that the boys have been breaking the rules. Dinah managed so save her son but neither of them were able to save Stu. They just dragged him outside and returned with the suits covered in blood. Andre isn't happy right now"
"how did I end up in your room?"
"Ms Venable checked your room and saw you weren't there and someone spreaded a rumour saying you with the boys doing bad stuff. Stu and Andre brought you hear and I told ma Venable that you with me and Mallory chilling before bed"
Gal left the room to comfort and thank Andre. Afterwards he went to his room and went back to sleep.
The next day he was awoken by Coco saying that the young couple got caught and are in interrogation at the moment but looks like they won't be surviving this one.
Gal decided that he was just going to stay in his room and if anyone asks, he wasn't feeling well or hungry.
The next day Gal woke up and came out for meal times. He would talk to anyone who wasn't Michael. Yup still ignoring him.
3 days of doing the same thing and with his nan being the next one to go Gal retreated back to his room and not wanting to leave. Fuck breakfast and fuck seeing the next person to get the chop.
Day by day Gal didn't eat, bathe, drink or answer the door. Ms Venable tried getting someone to break the door down but all they got was cold silence. They tried leaving food behind but found it to still be in the same place the next time they checked on him.
Gal found something slowly change in him the moment nightmares started up and each night it got worse so he ditched sleeping.
A person can only survive for so long without food, water ad sleep and Gal was finding he was slowly reaching that point. So had another person.
"here drink this"
Gal tried to ignore it but a strong hand grabbed his chin and held him in place.
"I said drink"
Gal whimpers before drinking the fruity drink that was bring offered.
"slowly"
He did as the voice said and slowed down. After he was done the cup was removed and in place a pleasant smell takes over.
"open"
His mouth opens on its own accord and he finds food entering his mouth. Throughout the eating he had to be told to either chew or slow down. Afterwards he slowly opens his eyes and stares at the person before him.
"why are you helping me?"
"there are way too many reasons right now on the whys. What's more important is that we talk about you?"
"you a therapist now?"
"no but I'm a great listener and good at being real honest and blunt"
"i ain't talking"
"it's okay. I got forever"
"good"
Gal turns his back on the man.
"no you aren't hiding. Not anymore"
Gal growls as he feels a hand turn him back over.
"leave me alone"
"no"
"I said"
Gal with all his anger fueled strength gets the man on the bed and sits on his lap still growling.
"leave me alone Langdon"
"And I said"
Michael flips them over so he's on top
"no. Now start talking"
In rebellion Gal leans up and kisses Michael who surprisingly kisses back. It doesn't take long for things to get heated and soon clothes are off and Michael is slowly pressing into Gal as they pant.
Michael starts moving slowly as they start kissing again. Slowly and gently. It is so gentle that Michael has to calm the crying Gal down. He kisses the tears away as he rocks back and forth.
It doesn't take all that long before they're climaxing and lay there with Michael still nestled inside. They fall asleep like that.
Gal wakes a while later and finds Michael had slipped out and is asleep next to him. He slowly gets up and quietly heads out to have a bath.
As Gal makes his way back to the room he feels a headache come along and almost falls over. He feels arms wrap around him and looks up to find it's a worried Michael who helps him back to bed. He watches as the man leaves and comes back with more food and water. He is so confused with the turn of events that once Michael says later on "talk" he starts being honest and talks about everything that has happened from the moment he first started ignoring Michael upto now. He also says he has a lot of questions and Michael let's him ask away.
.....
