@nemotunovi Hot take, the lore of the show was extremely interesting and deserved to be expanded upon and it's a damn shame we never got to see it reach the potential it was promised in the ealier seasons. It's also a shame that all character development was seemingly ignored and characters we loved were pushed to the side.
It's a shame it became more about shipping rather than a quality story about actually overcoming abuse and being your own hero after trying to be everyone elses and realising you can leave what you've always known and in fact find another home, one that's healthier.
That you can have hope.
It was story about healing, finding yourself, learning to stand up for yourself, and learning to trust others again (Mainly Adora, also Catra, Scorpia, etc).
It was about legacy and why we fight for the people we fight for (Mainly Mara, Adora, and She-Ra, but also Angella, Micah and Glimmer being their legacy when they were both gone, Bow and his family, Frosta, only 11, taking over her Kingdom when her parents were killed, Mermista when her Kingdom was destroyed, Scorpia and Entrapta and the ruins of thier Kingdoms. All the princesses tbf. I don't wanna leave Perfuma out. The Star Siblings. The Horde kids, and even Hordak to some extent).
The compelling mystery behind the Sword, ruins, technology, and world (First Ones, Light Hope, Greyskulls, Madam Razz, Entrapta, Hordak, etc).
What we are willing to do for the people we love (Mainly Angella, Adora, Mara, and Glimmer. But everyone)
It was about friendship and boundaries (Adora, Glimmer, Bow, Scorpia, Catra, etc).
It was about family (Angella, Micah, and Glimmer. Shadow Weaver, Catra, and Adora. Bow and his parents) and realising that you don't have to be a product of the abuse you went through, you can build your own family and be more than what they tried to make you. (Mainly Adora and Catra, if it had been done right, Scorpia, and Hordak, if he had been done right).
It was about redemption and self reflection and knowing you didn't deserve the abuse somebody put you through, but also about taking responsibility for your own actions if you have hurt others, too (Adora, and could've been that for Catra, Hordak, and other people within the Horde, if done right. Also Glimmer regarding taking responsibility).
It was supposed to be all of this. It was at some point. But somewhere, it got lost.
Instead, we never got the answers to the lore. We never found out who the Greyskulls were to Mara. We knew they were her own friends, but we never got to know more. Never got to see her memories of them. Or to know anything of Madam Razz. We never saw Adora get to find her birth family like she wanted to. We never got a proper reunion for Micah and Glimmer, or any mention of Angella again. We never got a proper redemption for Catra. It was never mentioned how she was the reason that Angella was never able to go home to Glimmer again. How she never got to see that Micah was alive. Or the reaosn Mermista's Kingdom fell. Or the reason Adora has scars on her back and believes she has to save everyone or is 'useless'. Or to see if Catra was a Princess as was hinted at via holograms in ealier seasons (Or if not a Princess, the Kingdom she was from). We never got Scorpia to recognise how to Horde had taken the family from her and raised her to fight for them when they were the ones that orphaned her. Like Catra, we never got to see Hordak recognise his wrong and he was apparently redeemed despite literal war crimes. Despite being the reason Scopira and Frosta have no parents. We never got to see the Star Siblings again. Or the deal with Double Trouble.
Instead, Adora ends up with someone who abused her and (In my personal opinion, it would have been better for her and Catra to be sisters healing from abuse together, as was the original plan in the ealier seasons and published books and character decriptions that stated as such) her development and finally standing up for herself ("You made your choice, now live with it") was thrown away. Angella is forgotten, Bow and Glimmer get shoved together as 'spares', Hordak just gets a 'Are we gonna act like this is okay' and it's fine, apparently, that he's magically good now. Mara is just dead. That's it. And everyone else is just. There.
It just becomes disappointing. It's hard to watch the ealier seasons again (I refuse to watch 5 unless for research purposes) knowing that all that built up lore never gets any resolution. That it was all for nothing.
We fell in love with this story and these characters. We rooted for them, we cried for them, we felt for them. And it feels like it was all for nothing. It could've been so much and it became nothing.
#I'm never gonna shut up about it#The goal is to become rich and get the rights for She-Ra and redo season 5#And make more seasons that actually exploee everything they promised to#And anytime you try to tell someone all this stuff they just acuse you of being chronically online#And they say it's just a kids show#And I'm like. 1) Funny you think I don't know that but also our brains are wired in a way that they don't know these characters aren't real#So it thinks they are. Aka the feelings we have are real. It doesn’t matter if it's fiction. I felt real love for them#And it became real pain and hurt when they got nothing too#2) I know it's a kids show and that's the point. I was 16/17 when I started watching it. I was a kid.#I was a kid in an abusive home that saw what Adora was going through and resonated with her.#I was a kid that needed to see her find a better home. I was a kid that was queer and was bullied from ages 12-16 for it#A kid that was desperate to see healthy queer representation because I didn't have that#And what happened? The character I saw myself in. Who I needed to see be okay. Was wlw. And it was celebrated as rep#But she was paired with someone who abused her for 5 seasons. And that could be interpreted as her sister#It hurts because I was one of the kids thay watched that show because they promised it would be about overcoming abuse and rep#And it was the opposite. What do you think that felt like? Everyone was celebrating and you felt numb because it was real to you#And what do you think it gonna happen for the younger kids who can't see it's wrong?#Hell even some adults justify it. 'I just think it's interesting' 'Who cares it's not real shut up'#People always seem to forget that if they can feel real joy when it comes to a ship then surely when someone else feels pain then that's-#-Gotta be real too#Sure it's not this deep for everyone#But it is for others. I just happen to be one of those people that it is deep for.#Anyway#Rant over
