While @biohazard-inevitable was visiting me in real life last month we started watching the Pokemon anime from the beginning, and we realized the other two kids from Pallet town, while spoke of, are never seen.
So that's us now.

Pokemon Next Gen (Competition Kids): Marionette “Mary” Poplar
Tumblr media
Marionette or Mary as she prefers to be called is the daughter of Bede and Klara. As a little girl, a lot of people often compared her to a doll given how she looked cute and how she loved Fairy-type Pokemon they also thought that it was cute how she wanted to train Poison-type Pokemon as well as Fairy-types, thinking that she was trying to decide between which type her parents mastered in. Like her father, Mary can be prideful but she’s very mellow as oppose to when Bede started out as a trainer and like her mom, Mary likes to perform and got an interest in doing something from show business but she didn’t know what until she found out about the new battle facility that combined Pokemon Contests, Pokemon Showcases, and the Battle Chateau so she traveled to Kalos to give it a try and ended up meeting Riley, Zach, Coast, and Acorn. With them, by her side, she managed to sign up for the facility and ended up enjoying it as she got to both perform and battle at the same time, she also enjoyed the thought of dressing up for each battle she had, even if she had to dress up like a denizen at first she still enjoys it a lot. Unlike her mother, she focuses on training her Pokemon and doesn’t like being doted on. While she does enjoy being called cute, she doesn’t want to hear it all the time, she also has an interest in being a pop singer like her mom but she’s too shy to sing in front of a crowd, but she will like to do it when she gets more out of her shell.
Her main colors are pink and purple. From pink, Mary is feminine and at times affectionate to those she’s close to. It also represents a part of her passionate side and her sensitive side, as well as her sweet side and her innocence. At times she can be immature and very girly, but she’s still a calm and compassionate girl who will always help her friends. From purple, she’s imaginative and sometimes arrogant but she’s also selfless. It represents how she wants to be her own person, she doesn’t want to be a gym leader like her father and while she does admire her mom for being a pop singer, she wants to try her own thing before she actually goes through with being a pop singer. Purple often helps Mary get inspired and it gives her a lot of empathy and it helps her stay control in her emotions. Both colors also represent the two types she uses, pink being Fairy-types and purple being Poison-types.
Her Pokemon:
Spritzee- Mary had received her Spritzee as a gift when she was ten years old and the two of them have been best friends ever since. Spritizee is a friendly Pokemon, she loves to meet new people and new Pokemon and she has a fondness for letting her trainer smell any of the scents she creates and she’ll happily flutter around Mary to spread it around her. Despite her small size and the fact that she’s still unevolved, Spritzee is a capable battler and is great for contest-like battles, she’s also one of Mary’s stronger Pokemon due to how well she was trained since both of them were young. Spritzee also has no problem with unleashing a foul-smelling scent to anyone who makes her angry and she will laugh to herself as she watches her victim cringe in disgust. She doesn’t fear Poison-type Pokemon and has no problem dealing with them due to training against her teammates over the years.
Caught in a Love Ball.
Ability is Healer.
Moves are Sweet Kiss, Fairy Wind, Draining Kiss, Sweet Scent, Attract, Psychic, Trick Room, Aromatherapy, Moonblast, and Gyro Ball.
Dustox- Mary caught Dustox back when she was a Wurmple, she was hoping that her Wurmple would evolve into Dustox as she thought that Dustox looks cuter than Beautifly. She was ecstatic when her Wurmple had evolved into Cascoon and was even happier when she finally got her Dustox. Dustox is a proud Pokemon, she also loves to have her time in the spotlight. Dustox works hard to make herself look as appealing as possible due to how she knows that most people think Beautifly is more appealing than a Dustox, she also has a personal vendetta against Beautifly and will always try her best to one-up any Beautifly she faces against or sees and she will become deeply upset if she looses against a Beautifly, thinking that people are right but then she’ll snap out of it and will train harder against any other Beautifly.
Caught in a Luxury Ball.
Ability is Shield Dust.
Moves are Silver Wind, Quiver Dance, Ominous Wind, String Shot, Moonlight, Psychic, Sludge Bomb, Poison Sting, Bug Buzz, and Sunny Day.
Galarian Weezing- Mary had gotten her Galarian Weezing back when he was a Koffing, she had evolved him before her journey to Kalos so he evolved into his Galarian form. Weezing is loyal and kind Pokemon, he also doesn’t seem to care if someone looks at him strangely since he knows that regional variants are something not many people have seen before. Like Spritzee, he will use his gas on someone should they insult Mary in any way. While he doesn’t understand much about contests or performances, he does his best with Pokemon battles and he tries his hardest to make his battles look appealing instead of just making it a straight-up brawl.
Caught in a Pokeball.
Ability is Levitate.
Moves are Double Hit, Strange Steam, Sludge Bomb, Toxic, Venoshock, Dazzling Gleam, Flamethrower, Play Rough, Sludge Wave, and Dark Pulse.
Galarian Slowbro- Mary caught her Galarian Slowbro back when he was a Slowpoke, after a while of training him she had let him evolve thanks to giving him a Galarica Cuff. Slowbro was a rather tense Pokemon, especially when he feels Shellder biting on his arm, he’ll end up flailing around and will sometimes attack whatever was close to him. After a lot of training, he calmed down and no longer is so tense when he’s in battle and it’s thanks to his quick reflexes that he’s able to make dance-like movements when he’s battling. When not in battle, Slowbro is laid back and he often zones out or just relaxes. He still trains hard so he doesn’t end up getting rusty.
Caught in a Luxury Ball.
Ability is Own Tempo.
Moves are Shell Side Arm, Psychic, Ice Punch, Trick Room, Poison Jab, Sludge Bomb, Future Sight, Shadow Ball, Drain Punch, and Belly Drum.
Wigglytuff- Mary caught Wigglytuff when she was a Jigglypuff and around the same time she had caught Clefairy. When she and Clefairy had heard of these competitions that Mary was going to take part in, both of them were happy to agree to compete and was ready for whatever Mary needed them for. The two of them evolved when Mary managed to get a Moon Stone for both of them. As a Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff loved to dance more than sing as she felt she wasn’t that great at singing anyway so she spent more of her training dancing with Clefairy showing her how to dance while she showed Clefairy how to sing. After evolving, Wigglytuff still expressed a love for dancing and kept up her dancing skills to make sure she could still dance with her new body. Despite not having an interest in singing, she still likes to sing with Clefable so long as they’re together as both of them are mates. They’re ideal for being together during double battles as they work perfectly together.
Caught in a Love Ball.
Ability is Cute Charm.
Moves are Charm, Hyper Voice, Play Rough, Draining Kiss, Psychic, Wish, Helping Hand, Thunderbolt, Wake-Up Slap, and Double-Edge.
Clefable- Mary caught Clefable when he was a Clefairy and around the same time she had caught Jigglypuff. When he and Jigglypuff had heard of these competitions that Mary was going to take part in, both of them were happy to agree to compete and was ready for whatever Mary needed them for. The two of them evolved when Mary managed to get a Moon Stone for both of them. As a Clefairy, Clefable likes to sing more than dance as he felt like he wasn’t that great at dancing anyway so he spent more of his training singing with Jigglypuff showing him how to sing while he showed Jigglypuff how to dance. After evolving, Clefable still expressed a love for singing and kept up his singing training to make sure he could still sing with his new body. Despite not having an interest in dancing, he still likes to dance with Wigglytuff so long as they’re together as both of them are mates. They’re ideal for being together during double battles as they work perfectly together. He often gets jealous if Wigglytuff’s Cute Charm ability activates on a male Pokemon.
Caught in a Love Ball.
Ability is Magic Guard.
Moves are Sing, Life Dew, Metronome, Moonblast, Dazzling Gleam, Focus Blast, Sweet Kiss, Meteor Beam, Retaliate, and Cosmic Power.

When Ev returned to the Game Corner, Kris was wearing a fake beard and shouting angrily about Voltorb. “Where’d you get the fake beard?” Ev asked.
“Under the table.” Kris answered.
Ev looked under the table and, sure enough, there was a large collection of fake beards. “I brought you food.” Ev remembered, getting the sandwich out of her bag.
Kris took it and began eating as she shouted at another flipped Voltorb. “I’ll go fight the gym I guess.” Ev decided since her sister wasn’t at her goal yet.
Mr. Game looked like he wanted to go home. Kris looked like she wanted to punch him in the mouth.
Ev headed down to the gym but the leader wasn’t there, so she went to find them at the Radio Tower. “Hi Whitney! You’re the gym leader?” Ev asked.
“Oh, Ev! I haven’t seen you since you moved to Unova! I heard about the Quiz to win a Radio Card, so I came here to get one... But the Quiz is so hard!” Whitney said.
Ev and Kris had met Whitney in school since she was only a little younger than them. Since there couldn’t be a battle with no leader, Ev decided to take the quiz. After only messing up on the last question, she got all the right answers. She then handed the card over to Whitney. “Wow, you did it! I thought the answer to the third question was surely apricots!” The pink haired girl amazed.
“Actually it’s apricorns. I know since I’ve been collecting them. It’s the fifth one I got wrong since I don’t really listen to the radio.” Ev admitted.
She noticed she was still holding the radio card. “Aren’t you going to take this?” She asked.
“But you won it. Aren’t you going to put it in your PokéGear?” Whitney asked.
“Actually my Xtranciever does that already, so I figured giving this to you would get you back to the gym sooner.” Ev said.
“Thanks! Guess I owe you a battle then!” Whitney smiled.
“You’re on!” Ev grinned.
They headed for the gym. “You know, I’ve heard plenty of trainers talk about how tough your Miltank is.” Ev mentioned.
“Huh. I guess I’m doing my job right then.” Whitney guessed.
They got to the gym and took to the field. “By the way, how’d you become a gym leader?” Ev asked, ready to start.
“Everyone got into Pokémon, so I got into it, too! Pokémon are super cute! Plus I’m warning you - - I’m good!” Whitney grinned excitedly.
She sent out a Clefairy and Ev sent out Faven. Faven used Thunder Wave and the Clefairy used Mimic. A thundershock was then returned with Thunder Wave. Faven’s tackle missed as Clefairy waggled her finger, and used Rock Wrecker. Faven was paralyzed as Clefairy had to recharge. Ev decided to switch for Missie, who got hit by a metronome picked thunderbolt. Missie used Confuse Ray and Whiteny’s Pokémon hurt itself. Then it was a powerful Psywave to the paralyzed Pokémon. Whitney used a Super Potion so the next Psywave didn’t KO. Another and a Thunderwave, another and metronome caused an adorable howl, paralyzed and a metronome caused twinneedle, then the final Psywave. Next up was Miltank and Ev was ready, sending out Boudica. Before giving the move commands, Ev was hit in the head by a Dratini. Turning around, Kristina came in.
“Finally got what I wanted, and in less than a day!” Kris cheered.
“That’s great sis, but can you let me finish here?” Ev asked.
“No. C’mon Pulp!” Kris shrugged, taking her Dratini to the bleachers.
One mighty Brick Break met a tough Stomp. The second one rendered Miltank fainted. Whitney seemed on the verge of tears. “You meanie!” She cried.
“You always did cry when you lost.” Ev sighed.
They waited for Whitney to have her cry and Ev gave her a comforting back patting. The leader finally regained herself and dried her eyes. “Oh yeah, you want a badge. I forgot. Here’s the Plain Badge.” Whitney said, her Pokémon sent for healing.
“Oh, you can have this too! It’s attract! It makes full use of a Pokémon’s charm. Isn’t it just perfect cutie like me?” She smiled.
“Sure, c’mere you cutie!” Ev laughed giving her old friend a hug and playful noogie.
“Speaking of the move attract, Ev has a certain Froslass who doesn’t seem to need it.” Kris laughed.
“And you have a certain Alakazam who always seems affected by it.” Ev added.
Whitney seemed lost and that was probably for the best. “Oh, you must want a battle too! Right Kris?” Whitney asked.
“Yeeeeeeeeees.” Kris groaned, recalling her previous challenges.
“Heh. Guess I’ll be late checking out the new Pokeathlon Dome now open right next to the National Park.” Whitney said.
“Well we could all go check it out after Kris has her battles.” Ev suggested.
“Battles? As in more than one?” Whitney checked.
“Let’s leave it at I’m a bit mad at flying types and have a SUPER grudge on bug types. Except Beef Nuggets.” Kris sighed.
“Is that a Pokémon?” Whitney asked.
“Kinda? It’s called an Ultra Beast which is like a Pokémon from another world. The species is called Buzzswole.” Kris answered.
“Oh, so it’s like the fairy type. I think Clefairy classifies as one now, right? Maybe I should change the gym type to fairy once it’s more established here in Johto!” Whitney guessed.
After telling some more information it was time for Kris to battle. After one loss, Kristina won. Whitney did her best not to cry that time. “Wow. The one people always say is one of the toughest leaders you beat on your second try, the least amount so far!” Ev laughed.
“Holy sh*t, that didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would.” Kris cried in relief.
“Guess your biggest Goldenrod challenge was Voltorb Flip!” Whitney guessed.
“I hate that game so much.” Both sisters said.
After healing up at the Center, they met up with Whitney at the gate to route 35. “You remembered your Pokémon, right?” Ev asked.
Whitney did a quick check. “Yup! Both are right here!” She smiled.

Episodes 4-6
Episode 4 and we're still getting flashbacks to the first episode.
Ash had a chik-fil-a cow suit just ready for that pun.
Pikachu decides to take a nap even though just a second ago he was walking with Ash just fine.
All bug pokemon worship Misty.
Have no fear Ash is here, blatent Underdog copyright infringement.
Pidgey's Gust attack in episode one sends Ash flying, Pidgeotto's Gust attack barely moves Weedle at all. Ash’s Pidgeotto is a bitch by comparison.
Samurai bug catcher guy was trained by the blade and tips fedora mightily.
How did he even hear about Ash to begin with?
Why does he keep pulling a rubber sword on people as his way of greeting them? What kind of manners?
Pidgeotto just whipped Weedle without getting hit once, but is somehow too tired to fight.
Pinsir somehow has compound-eyes, an ability not introduced until Gen 3.
Ever sending a Metapod into battle, ever.
Kudos for showing Metapod just getting cut in half though, that's rad.
He legit said Metapod using Harden was clever...that's all it can do.
Harden battle begins, goes on for way too long.
Cardboard tank will protect Jesse and James from Beedrill, yeah okay.
Why did neither of them even try something different? Like, String Shot or something?
Beedrill swarm is coming, better pull out my Pokedex.
You have to aim to return your Pokemon? Who thought that was a good idea?
Pikachu shocks Ash and Misty but only Ash takes damage. Misty is a ground-type confirmed.
I wish the "Who's that Pokemon" weren't always just the main Pokemon of that episode. Make it challenging.
So Beedrill took Metapod to the Kakuna tree where Ash and Misty end up going, but then don't leave any Beedrill there to guard said Metapod.
Kakuna tree mass evolves the moment our protagonists show up, for a reason.
Samurai guy has a log cabin just chilling within running distance of Kakuna tree.
Everyone rips on Ash so hard, like he could've just stopped the entire swarm of Beedrill from kidnapping that Metapod.
Second person to reference all 3 trainers of the other trainers from Pallet Town but still only lists Gary by name.
Kakuna tree has replenished it's supply of Kakuna through the night.
Team Rocket voice actors changed.
Ash thinks that if he runs past the Beedrill they'll just forget he was the one that fucked Weedle up and fight Jesse and James.
It works.
A bunch of Weedle eat the paper tank. The paper. tank.
Metapod doesn't wanna go in the Pokeball because Ash didn't die for him. What a guy.
Ash falls over nothing just to throw Metapod and have a reflective moment on something that he didn't even do. Character development made easy.
Metapod fucks that Beedrill's world up for life and then evolves into Butterfree, leaving me with ruined expectations on how long it takes Pokemon to evolve for the rest of the series.
Apparently it takes a week for Metapod to evolve into Butterfree, what have Ash and Misty been doing for the last week?
How does Ash just know all these moves his Pokemon have immediately upon them evolving?
Sleep Powder doesn't even have that great of accuracy but hits everything in the forest basically.
Apparently his Metapod evolving makes him a true master in the eyes of rubber sword guy even though it's literally just a matter of time. You could leave Metapod in a puddle for a week and it'll still evolve.
Team Rocket somehow made the paper tank into Kakuna suits and hung themselves from the Kakuna tree? These are the antagonists.
Five episodes in and this theme song still jams so hard.
This is the episode that begins Jesse and James' hole digging fetish.
Team Rocket step in their own pitfall trap...I mean...come on.
Flint sells rocks...he sells rocks.
Looks can be decieving, beard prejudice.
What kind of ten year old uses the word "revitalize"
Another Nurse Joy, thus begins the vast network of identical twins that all took the same profession.
Flint's laugh is so fake, who is trying to fool?
Ash stares at Misty's ass, my guy.
Snap on lights, classy move, Brock. Brock’s Gym is complete with rock terrain that easily snaps together.
The weird jump Brock did seemed unnecessary, why even have those stairs?
Let's be honest, the first time we saw Onix we thought it was the strongest thing ever.
Onix uses Bind before Brock gave it the order.
Ash's aim with his returns is ass, but he blames it on Onix.
Flint takes Ash to spy on Brock and his ten younger siblings, that's not weird.
Brock has ten brothers and sisters, giggity.
Deadbeat dad and dead mom, slow down there Pokemon.
Let's hook your Pikachu up to a power plant to power it up. Pokemon logic.
River is dry making the power plant not operational, but let's not say that until after we're here.
Ash just let's the dirty hobo hook shit up to his Pikachu without even saying a word.
Misty finally says something intelligent but Ash says he's going to go all by himself (While getting help from Flint)
Ash says, "If I can take it you can take it" while walking on a stairmaster and his Pikachu is having a power plant put into it's cheeks.
Gust has literally changed every time it's been used in this show so far.
Flying is weak against rock, so my Geodude is gonna grab at your Pidgeottos’ feet until it faints.
Pikachu's random discharge sets all the lights on fire, but we just ignore that.
Ash wants to battle to the death as Pikachu fainted but he wants to continue.
Oh, the fire actually mattered after all, leading to some Deus Ex Aqua letting Pikachu fuck Onix up.
Ash has 10 people on him and thinks it's all in his head. He's actually crazy.
Brock's character changed so drastically in this one episode. He went from calling Pikachu a nerd to being a softie in 10 minutes.
Brock wants to be the best at making Pokemon get it in, and enlists Ash to do that for him.
Cold spaghetti for breakfast and cereal for dinner, these kids really do need a father.
Agrees that he has to pay Misty back, then tries to run away from her.
Why were Team Rocket even in this episode?
Zubat. Just. Zubat.
Wow I hate this scientist immediately.
The lights hanging from the cave are fucking up all the Pokemon, so instead of just pulling them down or turning them off, Seymour the Scientist just watches.
These poems are almost as bad as the ring from the telephone.
Pokemon are aliens, Moon Stone spaceship.
Clefairy is holding a Moon Stone but isn't evolving?
Seymour stops Ash from catching a Pokemon under the pretense "I'm sure you understand" but there's literal no context to what Ash is supposed to understand.
Ash understands anyway.
"Trouble?" Team Rocket announces as Ash triggered their trap card.
Random "You can't join us" thrown at Ash even though he never said anything about joining them.
Brock randomly catches a Zubat offscreen even though he's only a Rock-type trainer. Your ploy to get me to like that shitstorm of a Pokemon won't work.
Misty just throws a Pokeball in the water. Sure Staryu may like it, but that was a fast moving river, that thing is gone.
Ash has never seen Pokemon food.
Seymour and Ash both decide to eat Pokemon food.
Pikachu is the Naruto of Pokemon. Makes friends with everything by just saying his name over and over.
This one particular Clefairy was holding the almighty fragment of Moon Stone that made the thing glow and cause the rest of the Clefairy to show up.
Clefairy rave.
Ash doesn't understand Clefairy, but understands Pikachu because it's "his Pokemon".
Ash can only understand 90% of Pikachu's words, the rest must be done in a game of shitty charades.
Clefairy worship and pray to the Moon Stone, causing Seymour to lose his shit over space travel.
Seymour the Scientist just turned into Velma, but if she wasn't hot or interesting but instead the devil.
Onix versus Ekans results in a "size doesn't matter" joke from Jesse.
Jesse and James are able to move this MASSIVE meteor with no one noticing or making a noise.
I'm really confused on how much of each other's language Pokemon and people know.
So many Pokemon know Counter in the show.
Mass Metronome is just one of those "Put your hands in the air" moments.
Misty continues to have inner ear problems as moving her head back and forth slowly makes her dizzy.
Sing-Song Seymour is still a cunt.
The Clefairy Metronome explodes the Moon Stone into smaller Moon Stones, only now making some of them evolve into Clefable? I can’t follow what’s happening.
Secondary Clefairy/Clefable rave entices Seymour to live with them.
Postcards from space comment.
Why does Gary make fun of Ash here? Didn't they only meet once and for like, less than a minute? What makes them rivals, they barely know each other exist.
PokeRap is still bomb.
