Toodled with Blood Makes Noise, my Obi-Wan/Quinlan centric AIDS Crisis AU, a bit this weekend, and it's a delight to dive into it:

“Hey officer!” Obi-Wan calls out to the young cop who looked nervous, and in the face of a disease that might kill him, he lets a little arrogance take hold. “If you arrest me, you might get a bonus from Sheev Palpatine. I’m the faggot who wrote the hit piece on him in the Village Voice.”  

The crowd cheers. Obi-Wan smirks, and it feels good. The distraction is enough to tear attention away from Quin and onto him. The young cop grabs him and the cuffs click into place. He takes a fistful of Obi-Wan's flannel and t-shirt combo, and when he pulls, the fabric makes a sound of complaint.  

“I’m going to suppose that you don’t really appreciate art,” Obi-Wan says with dry disapproval, “but this is my new Keith Haring shirt, so I’d really rather you not rip it.”  

Obi-Wan gets a shove for that, and Quin swallows a laugh.  

The protest goes on while he and Quin and the others who were arrested are thrown into the back of the police van. 

As blood makes noise in his veins, life brims in his chest. He doesn’t know how long he’ll be healthy, but for now, he’s here.  

He’s here.  

“I shoulda asked if he wanted to come to my show next weekend.” Quin glances at his Yellowheart Fever t-shirt. “Might have thrown him off.”  

“I don’t think he’d enjoy a punk show, darling.”  

“Punk-inspired,” Quin shoots back. “You know I won’t be pinned down. About my music, anyway.” A look passes between them, and Quin shakes it off with a grin. “Thanks for the save. I think I was about to get my knees cracked. Guess our dads will have to come bail us out, huh?”  

Obi-Wan quirks an eyebrow. “Bets on whether Qui-Gon will get teary because he’s so proud?”  

Quin laughs, and when he laughs, Obi-Wan loves him until it hurts.  

“I’d bet money on that every time, babe,” Quin says with a fond sigh. “Your dad is one enduring hippie.”  

“Yeah,” Obi-Wan replies as he shifts in the cuffs. “He really is.”
