Nel 2018 furono entrambi vittime di un attentato terroristico perpetrato da Hamas. Lei incinta di sette mesi, perse il suo bambino. Ieri Shira e Amichai Ish-Ran hanno annunciato la nascita del loro bambino avvenuta all’ospedale Shaare Zedek di Gerusalemme. All’epoca dei fatti la famiglia disse alla stampa: «Non cederemo mai al terrore». Così è stato.

O lander lunar israelense estabeleceu um importante marco, tirou sua primeira selfie no espaço.

A foto recém-lançada mostra o lander, conhecido como Beresheet, olhando para a Terra, a uma distância de 37600 km.

“Na foto da Terra, feita durante uma vagarosa rotação da espaçonave, a Austrália é claramente visível”, escreveram os membros da missão na descrição da imagem. “Também é possível ver uma placa que foi instalada na espaçonave, com a bandeira de Israel e os dizeres ‘Am Yisrael Chai’ e outra inscrição dizendo “Pequeno país, grandes sonhos”.

A frase em hebraico “Am Yisrael chai”, pode ser traduzida como A Nação de Israel Vive, ou, o Povo de Israel Vive.

O lander Beresheet também fez outra imagem. Nessa outra imagem a Terra é vista começando a surgir sobre o corpo da nave.

O Beresheet é um projeto conjunto entre a empresa SpaceIL e as Indústrias Aeroespaciais Israelenses, e foi lançado na órbita da Terra, no topo de um foguete Falcon 9, no dia 21 de Fevereiro de 2019. O lander já realizou duas queimas de seu motor, empurrando-o para mais perto da Lua.

Algumas manobras estão planejadas para serem feitas ainda. Se tudo correr bem, de acordo com o plano do Beresheet, ele entrará na órbita da Lua em 4 de Abril de 2019 e pousará suavemente na superfície do nosso satélite no dia 11 de Abril de 2019.

Esse pouso será uma grande realização. Até o momento as únicas nações a realizarem pousos na Lua de forma suave, foram as três grandes nações da Terra, a União Soviética (Rússia), os Estados Unidos e a China.

A SpaceIL começou como uma competidora no concurso do Google, conhecido como Google Lunar X Prize, que oferecia 30 milhões de dólares a uma empresa que conseguisse pousar um robô na Lua e realizar algumas tarefas. O concurso foi encerrado em 2018 sem vencedor, mas a Space IL e algumas outras empresas continuaram o trabalho de construir um robô para ir para a Lua.

A missão inteira do Beresheet, incluindo o lançamento, teve um custo de 100 milhões de dólares, disseram seus membros.

Mas a vida do Beresheet no espaço não está tranquila não. Logo depois de ser lançado, os membros da equipe notaram que os star tracker da nave, que são essenciais para a sua navegação, são susceptíveis a um tipo de cegueira, causada pela radiação solar. E o computador do Beresheet desligou de forma inesperada pouco antes da sonda fazer a segunda queima de motor planejada.

Os membros da equipe da missão, conseguiram superar esses problemas. Por exemplo, eles rastrearam o desligamento do computador e atualizaram o software do Beresheet para evitar novos problemas. O lander então foi capaz de executar a queima do seu motor, o que colocou o Beresheet de volta à sua trajetória rumo a Lua.
