The Warrior of Darkness was not the container for the excess of Light released by Lightwardens.

That duty was taken by the woman who was not supposed to be there, whose entire presence was an accident.

"I've slain Angels before," she stated. "Highranking ones at that. These guys are nothing, compared to them. I can handle it."

And handle it she could, until it came time to face Vauthry. Already her body had begun to break, her soul cracking. When Vauthry was laid low, and Innocence slain, there was nowhere else for his Light to go except home.

She had managed for up until the Ascian Emet-Selch made his appearance, upon which she began to succumb.

She fled into the Tempest when he offered, and it was there that the Warrior of Darkness had confronted her.

It was only when she was weakened did he do what he needed to do. What was always the plan.

Not sure if it would save her, or doom them both, the Warrior of Darkness took the excess of Light stored within her into himself.
