18. your least favourite book ever
it isn't, in the grand scheme of things, the worst book. but someone sent me a review copy (the only time this has happened) for The Descendent by Ally Capraro, based on my Goodreads review of The Night Circus, back in 2016
it is not a book like The Night Circus. according to my memory, it's a mediocre-to-poor conventional het supernatural romance novel, with horrendous characterisation and nonsensical... everything
i'm still baffled that someone in whoever was doing marketing for it decided that it had any similarity to The Night Circus, mostly
38. your favourite series
i had to think a lot about this, but i don't think it can be anything other than Machineries of Empire by Yoon Ha Lee. just... mwah. what perfect morally dubious war crimes sci-fi it is.
68. your favourite piece of classic literature
it's been some time since i last read it, but i have a real soft spot for Jane Eyre, although i couldn't tell you why
also, 'classic' is such a woolly term, so i'm going to throw A Daughter of the Samurai by Etsu Inagaki Sugimoto in, which i read earlier this year, and was a deeply engaging read with fantastic prose.
(is it 'literature' if it's non-fiction?)

The Xemlix, a race that thrives on fear, is intent on taking over Earth and all the other dimensions, and only Ava stands between them and total domination.
