In this novel, Friar Laurence is corrupt and complicit in Romeo's activities
#please feel free to ignore this#The sex pest Romeo novel#Also this is so petty but the Acknowledgements are poorly formatted and have a typo and I'm like#Mmhmm and this is supposed to be a professionally published novel? With no paragraph indents and em dashes mixed with en dashes?#It's the Acknowledgements but also... the lack of attention to detail#Not to mention her saying she wrote this while homeschooling her 5 year-old daughter during lockdown#All art has is political but the transparent bias behind this novel and her reading of the play kind of annoys me#I say for the 10000th time#Again I have no problem with the novel itself and I think she does a great job portraying Romeo's abuse and manipulation of Rosaline#My beef is that she presents this as her reading of the play and says that she imagines this happening in the wings#She says she was inspired by Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead#(which she refers to as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in the Conversation With the Author)#(and the interviewer didn't clarify WHICH THEY SHOULD'VE so more petty beef)
