New Delhi:
A senior resident doctor of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been advised 14 days of quarantine after he took off his protective gear and put himself at risk to save a critical coronavirus patient while shifting him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a senior official said.
“Zahid Abdul Majeed, a native from Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, was not even able to break his (Ramzan) fast when he was called for shifting a COVID-19 intubated patient to the ICU in the AIIMS Trauma Centre, which has been converted as a dedicated COVID-19 hospital,” Srinivas Rajkumar T, General Secretary of AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association in New Delhi, said.
The incident took place inside an ambulance around 2am on Friday.
When Mr Majeed reached the ambulance, he had difficulty in ventilating the patient and suspected “accidental extubation.”
“I immediately decided to re-intubate. Owing to poor visibility through the PPE inside the ambulance, I decided to remove the goggles and face shield, and then re-intubated the patient as any delay would have led to imminent death of the patient,” he said.
Mr Majeed did not think twice before taking full-blown aerosol exposure from the patient and got exposed to the highest possible viral load just to deliver his duty, Mr Rajkumar added.
“It is important that the people of this country understand that we have a common enemy in COVID-19 and we have to be united against the enemy and not fight among ourselves. Have empathy for patients, fellow workers, health care providers and every living being around you,” the official said.
Zahid Abdul Majeed has been a compassionate doctor dedicated to his work, he said. “The RDA AIIMS appreciates the dedication of all residents who have stood in solidarity in the fight against the virus in spite of shortcomings and less than ideal work conditions all over the country. Senior doctors should appreciate their work and keep their morale high, take their feedback seriously and improve the working conditions,” Mr Rajkumar added.

Curse of “Chitta” eating up land of rivers?
The land of Punjab is proud to be the land of gurus and now this land is fast turning into a land of drinkers. The likes of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh who was part of the country’s independence, the valiant warriors of this same Punjab. Sikandar, who won all the country, had also gone empty-handed from Punjab. It is this land, also that Guru Ji Baba Ram Rahim Ji tried to protect and tamed most youths from getting into this addiction. Mass awareness drives and de-addiction drives along with sports and even employment opportunities through MSG products. But now that he is not around, the menace is once again gaining power.
Tumblr media
Punjab has seen it all, although right from the black era of terrorism Punjab is have faced every problem. The most drunken state of Punjab is fast turning into most addicted too. In Punjab where traditional drugs like opium, poppy, liquor were coming since long ago and they are still going on. Then came the smack and shriek of these drugs, once again stripped the youth of Punjab.
The Rising influx of drugs a major concern area for families
The influx of Drugs is not in favor of Punjab. Alcohol is the main source of income of the government today and tremors are being rolled out in Punjab. No doubt these families will be displaced by these addicts. But the youth of the present era is hit badly by heroin (white). Today the youth of Punjab is becoming enslaved by white drugs also called Chitta. The drug that was being supplied in large cities at one time is now available from door to door in the villages.
Drug Abuse and Music
The Punjabi music industry is also doing good business on this drug scene. Such sophisticated songs often come to the fore, which include alcohol, drugs in their music to lure the young ones. There is also a change in the way of the use of this Chitta or white drug.
In fact, Baba Ram Rahim Ji countered the drug menace at all points by awareness, de-addiction, employment, and even music. He composed pop music songs and whole night concerts were held, to divert the youth which was getting an overdose of adultery and addition through music flooded in the market in the form of albums and film songs.
Not many would know the main purpose Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji took to films and Drug abuse was one of these.
Earlier Chitta was pulled in by breathing, but in today’s time, through direct injections, these are quickly injected into the blood. Anything made in the blood is difficult to extract, especially drug abuse. This drug overdose leads to the cause of death through injections. Today the youth of Punjab is becoming a slave of white drugs. He also composed his own songs, which were motivating youngsters to move ahead on the path of humanity and spirituality.
But we are back to the square once again now. Border areas of Punjab and Haryana are once again the targets of drug peddlers. Recently, according to the figures published by All India Institute of Medical Science Delhi, 76 percent of the people in the age group of 18 to 35 years of age are using some drug or substance abuse. Of these, 53 percent of young people are using heroin, which is a matter of concern, because the heroin addicts cannot give up on this drug. The average rate of heroin drug drops in Punjab is less than 1 percent. Heroin is composed of a variety of chemical elements which cause great harm to the human body’s digestive system. The intake is usually between 0.5 grams of 2 grams a day. According to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the annual value of the drug in Punjab is Rs 7,500 crore. These figures are increasing day by day.
There is hardly any page of a newspaper that does not have the news of dead youths with this drug. Always the reason for the Punjab government that this drug comes from the border. There is no doubt in this, as far as the border area is concerned, much of Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan share the border with Pakistan but! The trend of getting ‘white’ habits has not been revealed in the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.
Then why is Punjab being targeted? In Punjab, it is a drug trade that is why most Punjab comes in. The Punjab government, of course, formed the STF to abolish the drug but there was no result at the grassroots level. Drug De-addiction. There is a need to reduce the number of people suffering from intoxicants. The government should allow the police to work fairly so that the drug traffickers can be controlled. Apart from this, the combination of employment and sports can also be done away with this bad condition. Drugs are the problems of the whole country, so the Center and the state governments need to formulate such a policy to ensure that the supply of narcotics from the border ceases completely. It is a shame that a Govt fails to protect its people from anti-social elements and the ones who come forward for the same, for instance, Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji are targeted for their good work instead.

COVID-19 might push 12 crore children into poverty in South Asia: UNICEF
An estimated 12 crore (120 million) children living in South Asian countries, including India, could slip into poverty within the next six months due to the COVID-19 crisis, taking the total number of such kids in the region to 36 crore (360 million), according to a new UNICEF report.
The report — Lives Upended - How COVID-19 threatens the futures of 600 million South Asian Children — covers eight South Asian countries namely Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
It says that an estimated 24 crore (240 million) children already live in "multi-dimensional" poverty — including factors such as poor health, lack of education, poor sanitation and poor quality of work in these countries.
An additional 12 crore children could be pushed into poverty due to the COVID-19 crisis, taking the total number to 36 crore, it says. The reports also flags the negative impact of the COVID-19-related disruption to vaccination, nutrition and other vital health services.
