here's a list of books I've read and would recommend as well as books from my to-read list for Pride Month!
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers: a solarpunk novella that discusses existential purpose from the perspective of a nonbinary narrator who meets a sentient robot years after robots decided to stop working and disappear into the wilderness. A great read that I found very soothing!
We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson: a YA sci-fi novel that follows a grieving high-schooler who gets routinely abducted by aliens. I read this one in the eight grade and as a kid who was unknowingly struggling with depression and had just learned that the word 'bisexual' existed, this was a pretty important read for me so even though I haven't read it in years it deserves an honorary place. CW: past suicide of the narrator's bf
Burning Roses by S.L Huang: a novella that combines European fairytales and Chinese mythology. It follows two middle-aged queer women as they reflect on their lives and chase down a deadly threat together. Told largely in flashback, I found this story very hopeful.
Blue Period (manga & anime) by Tsubasa Yamaguchi: had to toss this one in here as I adore BP. While not a romantic story, BP is about the discovery of artistic passion and the highs and lows of pursuing what makes you feel alive (and I find it to be relatable, refreshing, and inspiring tbh). In volumes 1-6 (and the anime), a secondary, genderqueer character has a fairly prominent storyline, told largely via the main character's changing perceptions of them. If you do give it a watch, I personally feel that the sub version hits harder.
In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune: I'm very excited to read this one (i love me some sentient robots lol) and have high hopes for the emotional depth. Here's the first bit of the synopsis. "Deep in the heart of a peculiar forest, in a strange little home built into the branches of trees, is a family assembled from spare parts: three robots- fatherly inventor android Giovanni Lawson, a pleasantly sadistic nurse machine, a small vacuum desperate for love and attention- and a human, Victor Lawson."
The Dark Tide by Alicia Jasinska: Google says it's a gripping, dark sapphic YA fantasy about two girls who must choose between saving themselves, each other, or their sinking island home. I love to see sapphic rep and truly hope this book delivers!
Feel free to drop more recs in the comments or share your thoughts about the books on this list!

If you have a preference for FC please let me know!
Victoria:
Or Emily
or Alicia.
Non-human FC: Laura
Short version of the character concept; she comes from a far future and distant civilization. She is an advanced artificial intelligence / android that was created to infiltrate and help destroy humanity. (Think a mix between Terminator and evil! Fifth Element type in terms of creation & technology.) She rebels and manages to escape, taking with her all the prototypes of the nanites & data used to create her in an attempt to preserve herself and to keep from being used as a weapon of mass destruction. She made use of an transportation device that moved her through time and space to a randomly generated location / time and ends up with her landing in -whatever- universe your character is set in. She attempted to sabotage the teleportation device so that it could not be used to track her.
You can find some basic run down / rambling thoughts on her abilities and technology and skills HERE.
Her chosen name is Elizabeth Rose Slade. (Tabitha Rosa Slate was her first chosen name, a play on the words tabula rasa, but she has since modified it to something she thinks sounds more natural.)

Ex Machina (2015) directed by Alex Garland. Seen in IMAX.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌓
What a spectacular movie, absolutely gorgeous. The outside shots were incredible. The story is simultaneously AI bad and Good for her™️ which is two of my favorite plots. Ava (Alicia Vikander) is just amazing, her micro expressions are flawless. I truly believed she was android. I miss when movies used to have Domhnall Gleeson in them, what happened to that? Oscar Isaac is also of course just top notch, huge asshole in this but that’s the point. He does it so well, and the dance scene! That should be playing in a museum somewhere on a loop forever, we should show that to the aliens when they inevitably arrive. Can’t believe it took me 10 years to watch this movie. A must watch for everyone I think.

Freddie Gray officers suing prosecutor Marilyn Mosby
Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby is going from prosecutor to civil defendant in connection with the case of the death of Freddie Gray. On Wednesday, Mosby announced that charges against three officers still facing trial were being dropped. Mosby gave only a statement, but had to leave without taking questions because five of the officers in the case have filed lawsuits against her. Officers Garrett Miller, Edward Nero and William Porter as well as Sgt. Alicia White and Lt. Brian Rice are suing Mosby and Maj. Samuel Cogen of the Baltimore Sheriff’s Office. Cogen was the law enforcement officer who filed charging documents against the officers. The lawsuits allege false arrest, false imprisonment, defamation or false light, and other assertions. They were filed in U.S. District Court in Maryland in 2015 in late April and early May around the time the officers were arrested. Valentine's Superhero Wedding 2: Electric Boogalo
Yes folks, I decided to take one of my most succesful poll (and one of the few that was succesful at all ) and make it a yearly tradition. So to explain for those of you who weren't around for last year: I love wedding stories in any form of media, and I love superhero comics, so I decided to take both and mash em together, and let my patreons and myself each pick one from the very weird and wonderful halls of comicdom and let you fine folks pick one for me to review. The poll is above if you just want to jump into it but if you need a tad more context, here's a quick summary of each nominee! Wiccan (Billy Kaplan) and Hulking (Teddy Altman) (Empyre #5 and Empyre Aftermath Avengers #5): It's a classic love story: Android Boy meets Witch Girl, they fall in love, they have two children, an evil demon makes them into his baby hands, boys somehow get reincarnated back in time, boy meets other boy whose son of two aliens, they fight crime, they fall in love and then hurridely marry each other before the other boy becomes king of space. Billy and Teddy are one of the biggest queer couples in comicdom and due to a combination of weird comic aging, being out of focus for some time and general shenanigans it took the two a while to finally tie the knot as the only intresting part of a fairly dispaointing event. While said event involves Billy having ot save his husband from his grandma and also a bunch of plant men who want to do a genocide, long story that, the real focus is these two crazy kids finally getting married and getting to be happy. Not every major event comic has a gay wedding but it should damn well be a requirement. The Thing (Benjamin Grimm) and Alicia Masters (Fantastic Four #5 and Fantastic Four: The Wedding Special): Look let's be blunt here: Dan Slott's run on fantastic four was mostly a shit show, with lots of good ideas.. but the execution of a man who knows his past brilliant works have given him carte blanche to half ass it even with a job he seemed to be a perfect fit for and even while doing some of his best work AT THE SAME TIME THIS BOOK WAS PUBLISHED. But even with my bitterness toward a lot of Dan Slott's run very present.. I can't deny having Ben Grimm marry Alicia Masters was not only long overdue after a string of failed attempts to pair him with anyone else, but done beautifully. Outside of a near interpution from doom it's a wonderful wedding and the accompanying tie in nicely handles the bachelor and bachelortee festivites. The run may be .. a lot that i'll have to deal with some other day, but I can't deny one of my faviorite marvel characters got a lovely wedding. Batman (Bruce Wayne) and Catwoman (Selina Kyle) (Batman #50): This one.. is painful for me and something I avoided reading. After a year of well done build up, and one storyline with Booster Gold being character assinated I thankfully also avoided.. I found out said wedding wasn't going to happen for the very stupid reason of "batman can't be happy". I mean it is a problem for him sure.. but it'd be more intresting to explore that through the marriage than have Selina's completely destroyed character wise in this reboot best friend Holly Robinson tell her that as part of an overly complicated plan for revenge by Bane and his legion of doom consiting of girl whose doing this because reasons, Psycho Pirate, and Bruce's alternate dad. You know normally I like when comics get weird, but this is just hilariously dumb. Will this actually be a good issue despite what came before and after? Guess you'll have to vote for it because I don't know.
Yellowjacket (Hank Pym) and The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) (Avengers #59-60):
I haven't talked about it a lot on this blog but i'm a massive fan of the Ant-Man family: Hank, Jan, Scott, Cassie, Bill, Razz Nadia, even Eric. So it's a touch weird i've never read Hank and Jan's wedding.. or maybe not given it involves hank developing a second personality who claims to have killed hank, Jan protecting him by planning to marry him, and then holding Hank to the marriage despite the fact he wasn't at all cognizant. Also snakes and crime circuses are involved. That and ya know, said marriage ended in horrible tragedy and one of the darkest moments in avengers history, but the actual wedding itsel fis messed up enough to warrant my nomination.
So vote now! Voting closes in one week from today so vote asap to see your wedding of choice get a review this valentine's season!

Fantastic Four (2022) #2
I finally had a chance to read the second issue of the new Fantastic Four series. And it did not disappoint!
It followed a similar theme as the first issue, only instead of the focus being on Ben and Alicia, it's Reed and Sue: a mystery that they end up investigating, with a bittersweet conclusion.
Disclaimer: robots and androids are my emotional achilles heel 🥲
Also, the idea of a doombot impatiently saying "BUT MOOOM" is simultaneously hilarious and endearing.
Reed and Sue are disgustingly precious, as they should be ️
Sue commenting that Reed's version of decompressing is analyzing Doctor Doom is ....yes, that is definitely our Reed 🥲
I won't go into too much detail, but let's just say Victor felt he had a debt to repay to a sweet woman who took care of him like a son, when he was in college.
Her observation on Victor's drive and ambition:
Of course, Reed doesn't want to crush the woman by telling her that the intense young man is now considered one of the most power super-villains, now would he? And where's the lie? 🥲
Reed is a terrible liar, it should be noted:
....I'm going to need a moment 😭
Finally, I leave you with the somewhat horrific idea of Reed's noodly fingers rummaging and feeling around inside a your skull 💀
Anyway, this issue was great and I'm looking forward to the next issue, how refreshing!

The road to M3GAN
I saw M3GAN (or Megan) over the weekend and even though I was out of the target demographic I greatly enjoyed it. As I mentioned earlier, it played like a Black Mirror episode, or perhaps a somewhat edgy Twilight Zone. I’m glad it’s a hit. One way I describe it to people is “Small Wonder Meets Chucky”. I get a few blank stares from folks who perhaps “came of age” long after the obscure low-budgeted syndicated sitcom of the 80s. It got me thinking about previous stories about “gynoids” (apparently that’s the correct term for female androids) I’ve seen over the years.
Spoiler break as this will be a long one:
The Twilight Zone: “The Lonely” (1959)
The one that started it all in more ways than one. The first regular episode of the original Twilight Zone series to be produced starred Jean Marsh (years before her turn on Doctor Who) as Alicia, an attractive and caring android who is shipped to a lonely prisoner sentenced to life in exile on a deserted asteroid. He falls in love with her (and despite being a robot there are signs she’s developing feelings to), only to have his sentence commuted and a spaceship is sent to return him to earth ... but there’s only room for one passenger. Do the math. One of the more bittersweet stories of the original TZ.
My Living Doll (1964-65)
Often unjustly listed as one of the worst sitcoms of all time (it’s a much better show than that), My Living Doll was part of the first wave of “fantasy coms” that included things like The Addams Family, Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie, though it only ran one season. A pre-Catwoman Julie Newmar starred as Rhoda, an experimental android created by the US Air Force who ends up being “adopted” in a sense by her creator. Fun and hijinks ensue, partly due to her creator trying to keep her true nature a secret, people assuming she’s his girlfriend, and also the very strong indication (this is a recurring theme with such shows) that she may be becoming sentient (assuming her snarkiness and sense of humour wasn’t programmed in, of course!). Newmar and her co-star Bob Cummings reportedly didn’t get along so midway through the first season a new co-star was brought in. One reason why Living Doll is remembered as one of the worst sitcoms, aside from being looked at through modern-coloured glasses, is the fact it’s one of the few US prime time network shows to actually be virtually lost (almost; enough episodes were located to generate a partial Season 1 DVD set; the hunt is on more missing episodes). So other than an intentionally male-gazy opening credits sequence few had actually seen the show until those DVDs. The No. 1 reason why this show works is Julie Newmar’s endearing performance that often leaves you wondering if Rhoda is actually a robot (and you can see signs of her later Catwoman in the performance too). Plus, it’s a full series starring Julie freaking Newmar.
Small Wonder (1985-1989)
Some 20 years later, one of the producers or creators of My Living Doll (possibly both) revived the idea for the made-for-syndication, low-budgeted Small Wonder, with the major obvious difference that this robot, VICI (a.k.a. Vicky), played by Tiffany Brissette, had the form of a little girl who, other than a completely monotone voice and some weird abilities, was easily mistaken for (and disguised as) inventor Ted Lawson’s daughter. The rationale behind the creation of Vicky also was more altruistic than in My Living Doll; rather than a military asset, Vicky was designed to help disabled children and was intentionally “adopted” by Ted (Rhoda was “adopted” due to being seen by the wrong people and her inventor needed to engage in a form of cover up to keep her secret) in order for her to grow and adapt to living with a family (and once again the question of how much humanity she picks up along the way is raised). I never particularly cared for the show (it did skew to a much younger demo than my teenage self after all), but it has the distinction of being the longest-running show on this list, lasting 4 seasons and just shy of 100 episodes. Don’t try to remember the theme song if you know it, you’ll go crosseyed.
Mann and Machine (1992)
There is a subgenre of TV involving robotic police officers. Not cyborgs (machines built around a human core) in the sense of Robocop, but full out androids created in part to save human lives by getting into harm’s way. A 1970s sitcom called Holmes & Yo-Yo (from the producer of Get Smart and featuring a character inspired by CONTROL’s android agent, HYMIE) was the first of the genre, and was followed by a similar series called Supercop a few years later and only a few years ago Karl Urban starred in yet another robot cop+human partner show, Almost Human. 1992′s Mann & Machine, from the creator of Law & Order (of all things), stands out for built around a female robot, Eve Edison (played by Yancy Butler). Set in the “near future” (approximately 2000) the show ran for about 6 weeks during which Yancy presented a rather appealing character who (here we go again) appeared to be learning human characteristics as she trained as a police officer under a veteran cop who was none too pleased to be paired with a machine (guess what his surname was). I recall one episode made some prescient predictions (pardon the redundancy) about climate change. This show deserved to run longer, but was a little ahead of its time and the media insisting on comparing it to the (frankly nearly unwatchable) failed Holmes & Yo-Yo didn’t help matters (I guess they could have compared it to My Living Doll which in some respects would be worse). The next year Butler starred in another Dick Wolf series, the Modesty Blaise-esque South Beach, before moving on to projects like the NYPD Blue-esque cop show Brooklyn South and superhero series Witchblade.
Bride of Chucky (1998)
Yeah, OK, so Megan isn’t the first insane killer doll on the market. But I bet Tiffany can’t dance for s*it.
(Credit to the original gifmaker!). Incidentally, as there has been some discussion as to why she breaks out into dance somewhat randomly, the films writer has actually explained in a few interviews why and it makes perfect sense (but requires a major spoiler to explain).
This post is already long enough, so I don’t really have space to include other one-off female androids over the years, such as Lal, Data’s “daughter” from Star Trek: The Next Generation (you know, the one the writers of Star Trek: Picard forgot about); the fembots of both Bionic Woman and the Austin Powers movies (headcanon - they share the same universe); Rommie from Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda (technically a flesh avatar but still an android); Cameron from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; and of course most of the cast of Westworld.

Since you want it, 2 truths and a lie and also If you were to describe your upcoming work in feelings and aesthetics, what would it be?
Yayyyyyyyyy, more two truths one lie! Lmao I love doing these! @corrodeheavenn once again, if you feel like helping or hindering with the truths and lies.
- It's kind of a long story HOW this works, but TL;DR someone starts replacing Gotham rogues with android look alikes programmed to be good guy versions of them. The Penguin is one of the people replaced, and Alicia prefers his replacement to the real him.
- Alicia and Cynthia (the blind girl at the very beginning of Swann in the Arctic, she comes back later to be a really good friend to Penguin, Alicia, and etc.) have a bodyswapping episode thanks to Dr. Odette Eye's horrifying science/medical experiments.
- Alicia gets her criminal alias "Turtledove" from the Riddler, who refers to her as "the Penguin's turtledove" during one of his many angry phone calls during the Iceberg Lounge Telethon. (He's not happy about Batman's identity being unceremoniously auctioned off like this lmao)
As for the feelings and aesthetics, Alicia spends most of the fic (with two very noteworthy exceptions) surrounded by Penguin's power and opulence. If we could somehow cross Moulin Rouge with any and all appearances of the Iceberg Lounge we've had in all DC content, that's what I'm aiming for here. Luxury in darkness. As for our two exceptions, they're grungy, disgusting, life-threatening. I'm still considering Dead Dove-ing (HA!) the fic for what happens when Hatter shows up.
