i have this recurring daydream fantasy of being at a convention panel and doing a q&a about my work, or listening to my favorite podcasters talk about it positively.

the common element there is that there's an external metric of "is this thing good", stated in a way that sidesteps my internal judgment; it's a daydream that's based on "other people think it's good"

but. i have to stand up for my work, cause no one else will

like, alice avizandum is not going to defend my work unless i actually put it out there to begin with. and she isn't going to make that work a reality, because it's not hers, it's mine.

and the work can't stand up for itself. as much as i'd like to think "my work speaks for itself", it can't, unless i put it out there to begin with; and that process must necessarily start with me speaking for it/speaking it into existence. and shilling my work is, really, just standing up for it, saying "i think it's good and i hope you will too"

yes I'm fine, I'm okay, I'm completely normal about it and not at all bitter about a successful career in writing that seems to slip further out of reach with every waking day

Thank you so much for shows 1 and 2 - I’m gutted I can’t make number 3. Hooted, hollered, clapped like a seal, was surrounded by some of the hottest people I’ve ever seen and dazzled by the collective beauty and talent on stage.
