Germany's most famous feminist, Alice Schwarzer, who once sued magazines for their sexist degrading depictions of women, published an article in an infamous tabloid newspaper, claiming that olympic boxer Imane Khelif is Intersex and describing in detail what she thinks her genitals look like. Nothing illustrates better how little she actually cares about fighting sexism. There is no evidence Imane Khelif is Intersex but even if she was there's no excuse to publish an article speculating about someone's genitals.

         We, Alice Schwarzer and Sahra Wagenknecht, have jointly written a "Manifesto for Peace". For negotiations instead of tanks. Within a few days, the manifesto was signed by 70 well-known personalities from culture, art, science and politics. Based on the demands of this manifesto, we invite you together with Brigadier General (ret.) Erich Vad to a rally: on 25 February at 2 pm at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Come one and all! Our country needs a strong peace movement again.

With these actions we want to contribute to the fact that half of the German population is finally heard in the public debate, pleading for negotiations instead of war. For peace instead of tanks.

Grad gelesen, dass die Gleichstellungsbeauftragten hier von einer Person einen Input zum SBGG bekommen, die absolut nicht darüber reden sollte und null Kompetenz dafür hat. Mein Tag ist gelaufen und ich hab Bauchschmerzen. Nicht nur metaphorisch.

Alice Schwarzer recently(ish) published an anthology of sorts about the complexities of the trans topic in which she herself only wrote the very compassionate, mild foreword if I remember correctly. Several trans-identifying people get their pages, as do people critical of the concept of trans, and a bunch of people in between. Supposedly, some people and groups were denied for it because they were too radical. It's a nuanced, gentle, and honestly quite lukewarm book.

But the fact alone that she dared publish it at all has not only renewed the vigor with which everyone and their dog talks shit about Alice Schwarzer, but also led to such fun things as my local bookstore dude, with whom I have had several civil conversations but who is not my close friend, bashing her unprovoked to my face when I tried to order the book. He was basing this off of nothing but twitter opinions. When asked to substantiate anything at all among the claims he made about both Schwarzer and JKR, he floundered. He had clearly not expected anyone to push back - after all, everyone knows JKR is a TERF and Schwarzer is a kooky, bitter old radical, right? I've talked to several people about this since and know of at least three other women who got negative comments for trying to buy this book. I also know women who would've liked to read it, but didn't dare buy it, because yeah, that tactic does work. You don't want to be talked to that way. And you don't want to be associated with women "like her". So you keep quiet. And if you don't, then well, you're one of "those" women now, and no one will listen to you either.

I actually forgot how tame the tweets were. How did this provoke literal book burnings?????

         The first priority now must be to end the deaths and terrible suffering in Ukraine as quickly as possible. And we certainly won't achieve that by supplying more and more weapons to Ukraine and allowing ourselves to be drawn further and further into this war. Even the top U.S. military officer, Mark Milley, says that this war cannot be resolved militarily, but will be ended at the negotiating table. Therefore, it must not be the goal of the West to munitionize a long and pointless war of attrition that will cost hundreds of thousands more lives. And for us, too, the delivery of ever heavier weapons means an ever greater danger of being drawn into this war ourselves. That is why we need social pressure for diplomatic initiatives, negotiations and peace.
