The "Tristan gets his heart broken in 1938 by a blond woman who wears her hair curled and pinned" pose.
#All Creatures Great and Small#ACGAS 1978#ACGAS 2020#Okay so it's not exactly the same pose but still.#Alice's reason makes sense. Maggie's does not.#Alice: I can't marry you because you'd be giving up your whole life for me and I can't ask that of you.#Maggie: I can't marry you because uhhh... My horoscope says no redheads? Mercury is in retrograde? You lost the coin flip? Reasons.#Alice McTavish/Tristan#Maggie/Tristan#Mine#I didn't take that second screenshot. It came from the WGBH recap of the episode.

It is sort of fun to hear Siegfried run though some of Tris’ more promising girlfriends for a possible match for this card...although, I have no clue why he would bring up Rachael Bosworth unless he’s convinced that Tris is still smitten on her.
Sadly, no mention of Alice McTavish. Very sadly, this strengthens my theory that Siegfried knows she’s spoken for in some way.
Even more sadly, Tristan is quite insistent again that he’ll never become serious about a girl. While this does fit with the pattern of Tris becoming more like Siegfried (who was a resolute bachelor earlier in the show), it still seems jarring coming from someone who seemed so eager to find the right girl to stick with.

If I had a nickle for every time Tristan Farnon had his heart broken in 1938. And the woman wore her blond hair curled and pinned up, and worked in a building that served alcohol. I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened in two universes.
#All Creatures Great and Small#ACGAS 2020#ACGAS 1978#78!Tristan considers dropping out of school and bartending at the McTavishs' hotel. So they definitely sell alcohol.#I see parallels between Alice McTavish and Maggie besides those. But those are the most obvious.#Mine#I dropped a fandom tag again. Guess which one I just added.

Me shipping in ACGAS 2020: Helen and James and Tristan and Maggie = quad. Two married couples, a set of girlfriends, and set of boyfriends.
Me shipping in ACGAS 1978: James is gay, but he's straight for Helen, and gay for Tristan, and Tristan's really gay for James, and Helen adores Tristan. It's really not that complicated.
#Obviously Tristan adores Helen back.#*Me picking up the books: *Reads 'Triss' spelled with two s's. Puts down the book.**#My branch of the local library has 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' and I keep trying to read it. But that spelling throws me off.#Me about the real people: *Crying over friendships and constantly wanting to know more about Sheila.*#I have seen none of the movie so I can't really comment on that.#All Creatures Great and Small#ACGAS 2020#ACGAS 1978#Mine#Also with ACGAS 1978 I did quite like Tristan/Alice McTavish.

Versions of Tristan Farnon and my favorite ship for them.
Brian Sinclair the real Tristan: His wife, Sheila Seaton.
Book!Tristan: I haven't read very much of the books but I'd say being besties with James is my favorite relationship for him.
Movie!Tristan: No idea. I've never seen it. I'm told he's kinda gay. So, a nice man maybe?
1978!Tristan: Alice McTavish, although I see his endgame as spending his life with the Herriots.
2020!Tristan: Maggie. Preferably Maggie + The Herriots.
#Also the last book mentions that Tristan has married so there is a book equivalent of Sheila.#All Creatures Great and Small#Mine

It’s kind of sad because the only other time up to this point that Tristan showed so much interest in one girl in particular as he does with Debbie Mount was Alice McTavish...and looked how that turned out....
It seems the writers do love giving Tristan doomed romances....
