Adventurin's a risky business
What drew you to it?
Points in the journey between Satasha, Tam Tara, and Copperbell.
Written for FFXIV Swap.
"For Glory!"
"Honor!"
"And the many songs of Bards!"
Daca'li watched as the trio made a toast with one brow raised. The words seemed familiar to them. Almost as though they had said them before. He half imagined they said such at nearly every bar.
Dolorous Bear was grinning in his mug as he drank and was still grinning as he turned to face Daca'li. "You do not wish to join our toast, sir?"
"It's Daca'li." Daca'li corrected quickly, he hoped that his armor successfully hid the flush climbing up his neck. "You can just call me Daca'li"
The other two were smiling at him. For what reason, Daca'li couldn't be sure.
"I'm E'manafa." She was half done with her drink. A feat that would have been more impressive were he not to know the quality of ale they could afford.
"You may call me Kikina," She was working on her drink small sip by small sip. Which was good for her sobriety, Daca'li guessed, but not quite helpful when it came to the taste.
"And I," Their leader put his cup down carefully yet sturdily before proclaiming. "am Dolorous Bear. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Kikina and E'manafa agreed heartily with him at this.
"I think we would all like to thank you for joining us for drinks too," E'manafa added before taking another drink.
"Now let us have another toast." Dolorous Bear chimed in, raising his own near-empty glass.
Daca'li smiled half-heartedly, nodded, and joined the group in the new toast. This one was much more quiet. Which was for the best as Daca'li had noticed Baderon sparing them occasional glances. Perhaps the volume wasn't welcome.
---
Edda was barely touching her tea. Which, he supposed, was understandable given the circumstances.
Daca'li wasn't sure why he had invited her. He couldn't say he knew the young woman. They had never spoken before. Though he had overheard her being yelled at by her friends outside Satasha.
An uncomfortable memory given what had happened to the group. And perhaps why he couldn't bring himself to leave the young woman alone. If nothing else, he hoped some tea and a listening ear would help her.
Daca'li took a drink from his own cup before he spoke up, voice gentle. "Do you have any plans for where you'll go next?"
She blinked owlishly at him, seemingly startled by the sound of his voice.
"I... I'm not sure. I was thinking of going back home and restarting my training." Edda answered after a moment of thought.
Daca'li leaned back in his chair as he listened to her continue to speak. Her words were slow but steady. They were mostly of Avere, the lad who had been yelling at her and apparently, her intended. The two apparently had many plans for their future together. Or at least she did. And they all involved seeing the world together as adventurers.
He didn't know quite what to say to any of it. He couldn't exactly share his opinions of Avere. That would not be helpful. At all. Nor would more condolences, though he doubted she received any from her teammates.
He tried to think of what he would say to one of his nieces in such a situation. Only to promptly wish to any divinity that was listening that they would never have to.
Daca'li held back a sigh. He felt he really should help the lass. If not as a fellow adventurer then as one of her elders of sorts.
"Edda," He started once she had finished speaking. "If there is something I can do to help, please let me know."
----
"Well, Daca'li. Do you think you'll be taking them up on that offer?"
Daca'li paused looking from the older elezen Isildaure to his grandaughter Alianne and then back again. Isildaure seemed to be genuinely curious about the whole thing. For a mercy, it sounded like a rather supportive curiosity.
If Alianne shared her grandfather's interest, she wasn't sharing it. Instead, she seemed to be stuck on whether or not she should make some displeasure with his bluntness obvious.
Daca'li really should have seen this coming, or so he was telling himself, when he mentioned that he was offered an interview for a group. He had not told them the name.
Or even a little further back when he ran into them at the Quicksand. He had just been leaving after asking Momodi about the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. They were entering to speak to Momodi for their own reasons. There was an invite for drinks and talk. It seemed like a good idea at the time to agree.
If he were honest with the two of them and himself, he would say he wasn't entirely sure. This was the first time he had even heard about the group. Momodi said they were to be trusted. That their goals were honorable ones. And there was the chance that they could help him with his sudden headaches and the visions that came with them.
"I think I'll wait until I've met the rest of them before I've made that decision." He answered, earning an approving look from both Alianne and Isildaure.
"Good, good." Isildaure smiled at him, "I was worried that what had happened had soured your taste for adventure. It's good to see that this generation is so resilient."
Daca'li returned his smile and did his best to not lend voice to the feeling that a similar conversation was had with Alianne.
"Do you two have any plans for where you'll go from here?" He asked instead.
Isildaure deflated slightly at the question. Daca'li had a feeling he knew why.
Alianne put a hand on her grandfather's shoulder. "We're not sure at the moment. Probably a short break. Perhaps we'll be able to travel together in the future."
Daca'li considered the idea for a moment. "That sounds good. I hope we can."
"To the future?" Isildaure offered, picking up his tea cup.
"To the future."
"To the future."
For the sake of Momodi and themselves, they did not clink their cups together.

Scion Headcanons (Minor Characters)
Also we’ll consider this my contribution to Six Sentence Sunday Many Sentence Sunday
Riol:
+ Everyone has a crush on Riol except for those Scions not attracted to men. (This includes the main players as well: Tataru, Thancred, Y'shtola etc. They all crush on him)
+ The Scions not attracted to men uniformly think Riol is  incredibly cool
+ There is a throwaway line from Tataru about Riol sending letters about his findings. They keep up a lively correspondence, the only lull when she temporarily relocates to Kugane and needs to work out change of address/forwarding
At first it is about keeping the Scions abreast of his work but soon it becomes about their deep friendship. They also tease each other a lot about her Kugane paramours and his own romantic escapades. He had not considered himself a man of letters before but finds himself developing a real voice and talent for painting pictures with words.
+ He starts doing travel writing and selling volumes, published by a small press in Revenant’s Toll
Alianne:
+ Alianne is a lesbian
+ Alianne and Alphinaud become good friends after their names are cleared in Heavensward. They spar when they can, and play strategy-based board games. Alphinaud is the champion for a long while but Alianne learns quick and is catching up.
Isildaure
+ Isildaure enjoys painting when his hands are not too sore. He, Alianne, and Alphinaud will find a nice sunny place outside and spend an afternoon painting the landscapes.
+ He also takes his tea a very precise way and strength, at a very precise time before dinner and will not eat if he hasn't had his tea yet.
Clemence
+ Clemence is not allowed to make anyone tea. She knows what she did.
+ Clemence has a photographic memory. She is more warrior than scholar but because of this trait, she will help the scholars of the group with organizing/recording
Ephemie:
+ Ephemie publishes poetry under a pseudonym. Some of it is extremely scandalous.
Ocher Boulder:
+ Ocher loves the poetry of Mistress Nightquill and one day would like to meet the reclusive author.
+ He has a talent for woodworking, particularly instruments and has taught himself how to play on them. He has even devised his own new instruments, some more successful than others.
Aenor:
+ Aenor has a singing voice to put all to shame and bring a tear to anyone’s eye. She doesn’t do it often because she has other traits she wants to be known for.
Hoary Boulder
+ Once a month Hoary cooks a giant breakfast for everyone and pulls out the stops. Everyone is expected to help clean up so that no one is stuck in the kitchen all afternoon.
+ He is excellent with needle and thread. Most days, this means he is called upon for field medicine. He has made clothes for himself and Coultenet.
Coultenet:
+ Coultenet is not threatened by Aenor, but at a certain point he takes her aside and explains that even if she is jesting, he would like her to stop talking about sharing his partner. They get along better after that. (He and Hoary are mostly monogamous)
+ When the Domans lived in Mor Dhona, the kids pretty much loved everyone. They're good kiddos and prone to hero worship of anyone even remotely involved with adventuring and/or Nerys.
The one they adore the most? Coultenet. He helps the Doman adults develop a curriculum so the kids can keep learning and it only fans out from there. He teaches them about magic, self-defense, logic, science, investigation. For a while he masks it under the guise of "he is a scholar and researcher at heart and it is his duty to help where he can" but soon enough everyone can tell that he is actually a big softie. He is surprised to discover that he likes working with kids.
When the kids form their own Adventurer Guild, he supervises them and also assigns them missions. He will also send them out with Hoary on more complex/risky missions (but still appropriate for their age) and Hoary is expected to make the same reports the kids need to.
When the kids leave, Coultenet pulls it together for their goodbye while F'lhaminn gives them their matching hats. But then he finds that they have all written him long letters. One of his lessons was teaching them how to write certain things–formal and/or business letters, personal letters, persuasive essays etc. All these letters adhere to what he taught them. It is the first time in a long time he has cried so openly.
For a long time he and Hoary have been in the camp of "no strong feelings about a family, so it probably won't happen." After this, Coultenet goes to Hoary and says he wants a family–maybe not now with all that is happening. but someday. Perhaps they could foster kids in need.
They of course visit Doma when they can.

B’rahn was one of many warriors chosen by Hydelyn as one of her blessed Warriors of Light. He was recruited into the Scions of the Seventh Dawn not long before the execution of Operation: Archon. While he didn’t take part in the attack on Castrum Meridium, he was a part of the final attack on the Ultima Weapon in the Praetorium. During the time of peace in the aftermath, he was approached and joined a monk named Widargelt, taking a small break from the Scions to help reorganize the Fists of Rhalgr order. During the hunt for Lady Iceheart, Rahn became lost in a blizzard in Coerthas, earning him the nickname, "Blizzard" from local ishgardians. When the call was placed out to the Free Company’s to defend Ishgard from the Dravanian champion, Vishap, Widargelt gave him a new set of armor and weapons mirroring a hunting hawk that B’rahn had in his youth. It was in this defense that Rahn met a former pirate turned adventurer. When the Ul’dahn Revolution went underway, Rahn had been taking a break from the loud conversations there and was cornered by the Brass Blades and Crystal Braves loyal to Teledji Adaleji and Lolorito. Had it not been for the timely arrival of loyalists Alianne Vellegrance and Riol, he would have eventually been overwhelmed and captured. Following the Scions’ scattering to the wind, he stayed Eastern Thanalan in close proximity to the Immortal Flames to listen for any information on the captured Raubahn as well to deter any Brass Blades or Crystal Braves from attempting to arrest him. He then began to further develop his skills as a monk. - Blizzard

Some thoughts about Alianne, Isildaure, and Ifan's relationship wtih them. Mild spoilers for A Realm Reborn and Heavensward below the cut.
Ifan first encountered the pair in Aleport while searching for party members with which to investigate Sastasha. The three were joined by a tactically-minded marauder named Alka Zolka who would later partner with Ifan once more during the SCH quests. A very successful dungeon clear was slightly spoiled by the fact Alka chose to remain in Limsa.
The tragedy that befell Edda's party in Tam-tara ended up killing adventurer interest in clearing the Deepcroft to the point that the trio were unable to find a frontliner. They were able to clear it with Isildaure tanking, but the strain this put on the elderly Elezen was greatly concerning to both Ifan and Alianne.
Their final adventure together in the Copperbell Mines was nearly a disaster. While they did find a tank, a miqo'te from the U tribe seeking to hone his skills, the inexperienced young gladiator lost his nerves upon discovery of the mangled bodies of Dolorous Bear's party (with which Ifan, Alianne, and Isildaure had a friendly rivalry); he froze during the last fight and narrowly avoided being crushed to death only thanks to Isildaure, though both the miqo'te and the elezen were badly injured nonetheless.
The party disbanded after receiving their reward for clearing Copperbell, with Isildaure retiring due to his age and injury and Alianne having lost her taste for adventure. While he parted with the Vellegrance family on good terms, it was at that point that Ifan realised that adventuring would entail a turbulent social life. The early eagerness with which he first stepped up to Momodi's counter shifted to something more sedate and guarded - though his loneliness did end up playing a role in spurring him to accept Minfilia's recruitment offer.
Alianne joining the Crystal Braves ended up rekindling her and Isildaure's friendship with Ifan, which was partly a motivator in her decision to risk her life by trying to alert Ifan to Teledji Adeledji's plot. It was for this among other reasons that Ifan personally asked Alianne to join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn after the Crystal Braves' dissolution. Ifan remains a friend of the Vellegrances even after the Scions' dissolution, and they still exchange letters and gifts.
