Carlos Santana's career found him on many places. One such was The Healer by John Lee Hooker, which reminds me of Supernatural by Mr. Santana in a way.  No, the sound differs from the LP I mentioned, yet the ethoses of both records correspond, i.e. let's make an important musician popular again by allowing the latter to collaborate with the latter's famous fans. Of course, the main problem with these records lies in the fact they smooth out the rough edges of their musicians too much despite them providing us with several reasons for the successes of the players. However, one shouldn't be upset over the Healer as the disc gave Mr. Hooker a well deserved triumph that put him on the path of becoming one of the elder statesmen.

Happy Birthday to Glasgow born vocalist Alex Alex Ligertwood best known as lead singer of Santana for many years.
Probably a generally  little known musician, Ligertwood was born in Drumchapel on December 18th 1946 and brought up in various areas of the city, such as Govan and Partick.
With a passion for R&B, Soul and Motown music, he cut his teeth as a youngster singing in school choirs and playing in his local Boys Brigade pipe band back in the 50s.
According to Alex, Glasgow was a place “just east of Detroit or Memphis” as far as his musical tastes were concerned - a city that discovered the likes of R&B and Soul thanks (in part) to the records Merchant seamen brought back from the US ending up in record stores.
One of the first to spot Ligertwood’s big soulful voice was Jeff Beck. He promptly made Ligertwood lead vocalist for the Jeff Beck band in the early seventies.
Next up was a stint with another legendary British band, Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express. Alex recorded four albums with Auguer’s jazz-rock unit, delivering scorching vocals, playing rhythm guitar, as well as co-writing the albums with Brian Auger. During the same period, Ligertwood performed and recorded with fellow Scottish soul-mates, the Average White Band. His lead vocals are featured on three Average White Band recordings.
In the late seventies, Ligertwood served as vocalist/guitarist and co-writer with Narda Michael Walden Band before joining Santana in 1979. It has proven to be an ideal match. Ligertwood brings a vocal intensity that feeds the volcanic playing of Carlos Santana. He has recorded and co-wrote eight albums for Santana.
Alex Ligertwood  is currently playing in David Garfield’s band features, other musicians in the group have a great pedigree, including Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) and James Harrah (Huey Lewis).

Happy Birthday singer, guitarist and drummer Alex Ligertwood, born in Glasgow, December 18th 1946.
Probably another little known musician, Ligertwood was born in Drumchapel and brought up in various areas of the city, such as Govan and Partick.
With a passion for R&B, Soul and Motown music, he cut his teeth as a youngster singing in school choirs and playing in his local Boys Brigade pipe band back in the 50s.
According to Alex, Glasgow was a place "just east of Detroit or Memphis" as far as his musical tastes were concerned - a city that discovered the likes of R&B and Soul thanks (in part) to the records Merchant seamen brought back from the US ending up in record stores.
Ligertwood would find fame with Scottish soul group The Senate in the 60's - a band regarded as one of the finest soul bands to come out of the UK and which counted Robbie McIntosh (drummer and founding member of The Average White Band) among their members.
And having spent time in the 70's with a number of acts that included  The Jeff Beck Group and Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, until Ligertwood (then living in America) got the call to join up with Carlos Santana and his band back in 1979.
As fate would have it, Ligertwood was living in Woodstock at the time when he got asked to head to San Fransisco to meet up with the band, who famously brought a touch of Latin fusion to the iconic festival - one immortalised in instrumental "Soul Sacrifice" off their debut album.
Ligertwood would spent roughly 15 years singing (and playing guitar) alongside Carlos Santana and the band, recording 12 albums as lead vocalist, featuring on songs such as "All I Ever Wanted", "Winning"  and "Hold On".
With the band, Alex travelled the world to perform concerts and scored Top 40 hits with six albums and/or singles, with his live renditions of classics like “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va” scoring Gold with Santana’s “Sacred Fire: Live In Latin America Album.”
Ligertwood has also performed with The Magic of Santana, a German tribute group whose guests have included other former Santana members. More recently, now in his 70's he has  been touring with reformed Brian Auger's Oblivion Express.
