This isn't true. The claim was that there was 6th episode of the series that was about destruction of wildlife that was going to air on iPlayer only but it actually it's a separate film about rewilding that's airing only online. This in itself is worth examining why they decided to air this film online only however online exclusives are, unfortunately, becoming more common so it might be part of their stupid digital first policy in an attempt to connect with The Youths™
The guardian has ammended the article to add the BBC's statement
"In a statement provided after the story was first published, the BBC said: “This is totally inaccurate, there is no ‘sixth episode’. Wild Isles is – and always was – a five part series and does not shy away from environmental content. We have acquired a separate film for iPlayer from the RSPB and WWF and Silverback Films about people working to preserve and restore the biodiversity of the British Isles.”
Alastair Fothergill, the director of Silverback Films and the executive producer of Wild Isles, added: “The BBC commissioned a five-part Wild Isles series from us at Silverback Films back in 2017. The RSPB and WWF joined us as co-production partners in 2018.
It was not until the end of 2021 that the two charities commissioned Silverback Films to make a film for them that celebrates the extraordinary work of people fighting to restore nature in Britain and Ireland. The BBC acquired this film for iPlayer at the start of this year.”"

Our Planet
Our Planet is a British nature documentary series made for Netflix. The series is narrated by David Attenborough and produced by Silverback Films, led by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, who also created BBC documentary series Planet Earth, Frozen Planet and The Blue Planet, in collaboration with the conservation charity World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Music composed by award-winning composer Steven Price.

The series addresses issues of conservation while featuring these desperate animals in their respective home regions, and has been noted for its greater focus on humans' impact on the environment than traditional nature documentaries, centering around how climate change impacts all living creatures. It is the first nature documentary Netflix has ever made. All episodes were released on 5 April 2019. A behind-the-scenes documentary was released onto Netflix on 2 August 2019. Netflix reported that 25 million households were expected to watch the series during its first month of release. It was later reported that 100 million households had watched the series as of March 2021.

David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet (2020)
My rating: 7/10
This movie doesn't really say anything new - documentaries about the beauty of the natural world and our negative impact are, sadly, a classic of the genre. But by framing it within the scope of his own lifetime, Attenborough rather impressively shows the speed at which things have declined, while also offering some hope for the future by suggesting ways of fixing, then at least improving things.
We're a bunch of really, really clever monkeys. We can do this. I hope.

Penguins (2019)
Tumblr media
Penguins are some of the silliest creatures on planet Earth. They’re adorable and naturally lend themselves to laughs. Disney Nature’s latest film does a fine job showcasing this and I bet if you take your kids to see this short documentary, it’ll instill within them an appreciation for nature - maybe even a desire to take action and protect our world.
Narrated by Ed Helms, we follow an Adélie penguin named Steve who is one of the last birds to arrive at the icy Antarctic plateau where his species migrate to build nests, mate, and start a family. It isn’t easy with the predators, unforgiving weather and rival males.
For children, there’s a lot to enjoy in “Penguins”. Ed Helms personifies Steve with narration that’s generally more hit-than-miss. While there are a few groaners, the little ones will laugh. You will too when the accident-prone, newly-matured Steve struggles to do what the seasoned birds around him have done a hundred times. It’s all real-life stuff, which makes it particularly amusing. Something about penguins' bowling pin-shaped bodies waddling around or diving in unison brings a smile to your face.
There is a story and we are introduced to a couple of animals and individual penguins but for the most part, the film speaks for itself. The cinematography is impressive, with the bleak landscape of Antarctica never before looking as beautiful as it is here. More than once, you’ll wonder how they pulled off these shots as the penguins don’t seem to even take notice of the cameras zipping above or beside them, even underwater. I may have rolled my eyes at a couple of bad jokes but that all went away during the last minutes of the film. There’s a confrontation between some penguins and a leopard seal that’ll have you biting your nails. You know you’re looking at real animals and accept that nature might take its course. On the other hand, the movie’s gotten to you. You don’t think of the penguins just as animals anymore they’re… friends.
Stay for the end credits, as footage showing us how the documentary was made plays through them. At 76 minutes, you might as well, right? Even if you don’t, “Penguins” is worth your time. It has the power to spark a change within the young viewers who will be brought to it. The film never talks about global warming or pollution or anything like that but they’ll be able to connect the dots and those who watch it will realize how wonderful these animals are. They’ll understand they need to be protected. I was happy to have seen Penguins, and happier to spot a number of families with young children in the theater with me. (Theatrical version on the big screen, April 20, 2019)
