Being Prepared Physically & Mentally for your Hunt
Alaska Hunting requires a person to be prepared for what they have signed up for.  Alaska being more than twice as large as Texas, having fewer road miles than Delaware - hiring the right Air-Taxi/Transporter to get you where you need to be will be a key element in the success of your hunt.  However, as a result of the vastness of the State, most big game hunting in Alaska is more along the lines of an expedition than the type of hunting to which most people are accustomed. Typically, you have to walk from the drop-off point to where you will hunt and pack out anything you kill. Although we make every attempt to get you in the best place possible to get your game, many times you may be required to cross a creek, walk across Tussocks (which is like walking across frozen footballs), may have to deal with several different weather climates while in the field - and being prepared with the good Camp Gear is also a key element in preparing for your hunt.
Even if you are lucky and find an animal within a mile of your camp, there is a lot of work involved in cleaning and packing out that animal. Even an experienced Alaskan hunter will say the work really begins once an animal is killed.
Besides physical conditioning, hunting in Alaska demands far more logistical planning than almost anywhere else. Weather plays a major role and must be factored into any plans. You must be self-reliant, capable of remaining in the field longer than expected under difficult circumstances. Inadequate planning, poor preparation or underestimating the wilderness can lead to a miserable or even fatal hunt.
Having realistic expectations on a hunt is also a key element when planning for your hunt.  Hunting in Alaska (or anywhere else that is not a “controlled fenced area”, success is not guaranteed. Remember:  it’s called “hunting” not “killing” for a reason - and the success of the hunt will be largely dependent upon the work you’re willing to put into preparing ahead of time and while in the field.  I’ve always said “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink”.  Same concept applies to hunting - we can put you in a great spot for the animals but you’ll have to put your own efforts into it as well.  It will prove to be a challenging and amazing experience all the way around if you are prepared ahead of time.
