You can tell a lot about a DC fan's feelings on representation by what they take as canon and what they don't.Duke's 'not a Robin and only an honorary Batboy' but you still make jokes about Talia and Jason sleeping together or demonize Talia for it even though it was ooc considering her history and had zero build up and the writer admitted they regret writing it?You hate Young Justice animated and Babsgirl but say Dick 'has a thing for redheads' because of Wally and Babs to exclude Helena and Bea and place Wally as a trio to Dick and Roy when historically it's been Donna and give Kory light skin in human designs when Anna Diop confirms she'd be darkskin?You got beef with Magdalene Vissagio for her trans girl Kon pitch as she had some bad takes with her lore but you sexualize Kon while aknowledging Tana's and all the other shitty adults' from Superboy 1994 treatment of him was child abuse and even pedophillic when Kon's still canonically a minor in current canon and you're an adult?You obssess over that one time Lex was black canonically and your not properly researched afrolatino Jason with no black fems in his cast but not over the Iron's and the Fox's and once again push Duke out of his own narrative as if he's not the only reason Jason re-joined the Batfam and them both eachother's Robin?All the Batboys and Cass are autistic to you but Stephanie is 'a basic white girl' and Duke is 'the normal one' even though they're young punks with brutalizing childhood trauma who were isolated from other kids growing up,got authority problems they act on and nonstop weird habits,behaviors and tastes?Stephcass was explicitly canon in an official ableit noncanonical run and Alysia Yeoh is a canon trans Batgirl but you'd rather focus on Jason and Roy's dynamic which only exists out of irl racialized misogyny and ableism and transfem Jason headcanons as you don't bother to think about her relathionships with women,not even Jaytemis/Jayrose/Jaydana yuri?DC fans only care about representation very shallowly and on a surface level,even the ones who actually read comics.If they'd let the DC cast and verse be as deep as it is and deserves to be,they wouldn't be able to handle it.They couldn't even handle Static Shock so that's why they blacked the black mc with tons of black women beloved in his life out of their memories

this is all theoretical BUT

i think i've picked up not just on bea's motif, but also motifs that represent her parents. and it's so fascinating, because all these leitmotifs - bea's and her parents' - are present in "ol pickaxe," the song that plays in the family store

and the two parts that weave together outside of bea's motif (like in the intro) - one of them can be heard in "mrs santello's old records" (hence why i associate it w her) and the other one can be heard in "dinner at bea's," which centers around the interaction between bea and her dad that mae witnesses when she comes over for dinner (so i associate it with him).

fascinating to me because at the start of the "ol pickaxe" it's just her parent's leitmotifs, and then just bea's, and then somewhere along the way they start gliding together

going to look more into her mother's leitmotif specifically - curious about if it's present in any of the songs from the ghost hunt with bea.

so far i would guess that her mother's leitmotif communicates that her mom was the river water slowly eroding bea's and her father's sharp edges, and now she's gone, but they haven't been smoothed all the way out

Al & Bea’s, 2025 E 1st St, Los Angeles (Boyle Heights), CA 90033

This humble Mexican food shack has been serving Boyle Heights since 1966. They specialize in burritos, but also offer tacos, salads, taquitos, quesadillas, tostadas, burgers, etc. As for the burritos, you can get them wet or fried. They’re known for their shredded beef, bean & cheese burritos. The combination burrito seems very popular. Order at the window and get a number. They’ll call your number at the pick up window. They usually call the number in Spanish though.

Combination burrito ($7.95): refried pinto beans, shredded beef, green chile, and shredded cheddar cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. It was a good size burrito, very soft. The filling was nice and hot but surprisingly wet (I had to use all the napkins they gave me). I didn’t get any salsa (guess I had to ask). The burrito was good in a basic way but I was craving some spicy heat. The shredded beef was on the dry side but not salty.

The employees were friendly. The seating consists of a small covered patio and additional outdoor seating next to the patio. There was even live music. Because they were busy, it took awhile (20 minutes) to get my burrito.  The building looks old.

Closed on Mondays. One dollar surcharge for credit card purchases.

So, 2, 3, and 15, my favorite protagonist, favorite antagonist and otp...

The answer for all three is hajime and nagito lol

Listen, as a pairing they have everything. They're thematic parallels, they've got the homoerotic tension, they've got intense self-hatred because of their place in the world, the drama, the tragedy, there's so much going on with them. idk if I could really explain why I like them w/o like,, re-capping the whole plot??? But regardless they're very gay and (at least narratively) canon soulmates.

They also just have a great capacity to be funny and adorable post game and I eat that shit up.

As for individually, hajime i like a lot as a protagonist because he's less,,, sturdy? I guess? Than makoto in the first game. Like, he's supposed to be super plain and boring, at least on the outside, but he's really pretty cynical and WILDLY insecure about his lack of talent and his self worth. He breaks down quite a few times but by the end he overcomes the despair that was threatening to destroy him, and he decides to keep going forward and I think that's super cool.

And also he's really funny and easily flustered and I think that's a lot of fun.

As for nagito, he's really interesting in part because he has such a unique world view. The way he sees the world is so heavily shaped by his specific life experience of intense good luck followed by intense good luck on and on and on, and by his admiration for talent. Its given him both an inferiority and superiority complex, and a different perspective on how to achieve the things he wants, and I think its really interesting. Sometimes people reduce him to "oh he just does things because he's crazy" but really his system of thinking and his values are incredibly consistent and make a lot of logical sense. He's really smart, and I think him being like that, being the kind of character who can really only come from a story like danganronpa is really interesting. And also he's super gay and an asshole.

Anyway I think I probably could talk about them for hours, and idk if this actually makes any sense at all but there you go
