They already did that, it's called a PhD dissertation.
They should invent an essay where you just do research forever and then you never write anything

thank you so so much! And yes, if you find a moment, it would be so so great if you could translate it! I don't know modern Hebrew, only old Hebrew because I needed to be able to read the Old Testament in the original to get my PhD.
in continuation to my previous ask, I will do my best to translate my favourite poem. Well here goes nothing.
Written in pencil on a sealed train cart
In this delivery I am Eve With Abel my son If you see my older son Cain son of Adam Tell him that I

So this is the desk I’ll finish my PhD at. (featuring the photograph of a snowman my grandfather gifted me when I was ... five or six. He made it during a skiing trip to Norway (I think) before I was born. It was my favourite photograph ever. Still is.)

Got a long day of work ahead of me, featuring tea, water, too many notes and a big-ass to-to list (the long white paper in the middle with the biro on top). Only visible on the left: The big stack of books I still want to include in my PhD thesis ...

Listen, trying for a PhD while dealing with depression sucks big time.
But we’ve got this, you and I. Step by step.

Dusk falls earlier already and I am still working on some translations for the PhD. Yes, I can picture me sitting here at my desk, working away on the dissertation this coming season. ❤️I love autumn so much.

Got up at six and studied for one hour - now, do I continue to read and annotate, or shall I try and write a shitty first draft, which is kinda scary still?

Had an online conference today that lasted for nine(!) hours(!!). Did housework in between and I’m so wiped, but I want to try and get half an hour of work in tonight. I’ve lost so much time already and I REALLY want to finish the PhD this year!

It is super super fun, honestly. I fell in love with that field early in my Bachelor's and wrote my BA thesis about a comparison of Lutheran and Anabaptist theology, then analysed the first anti-Anabaptist writing of this Reformer (Justus Menius, if you never heard of him, that's cool, most people haven't) for my MA thesis and now I'm doing all of his Anti-Anabaptist writings for the PhD. I've always been a history fan and I'm glad I did it and am doing it - it DOES take a long time, but I might get invited to a conference next year to talk about my topic. 🥰Super happy about this, honestly.
GO FOR YOUR COUSIN!! They can do this!
Thank you so much for reminding me - yes, the PhD is YOUR piece of glory, YOUR contribution to the field, and it's really important. I have chronic depression, so for me, this is especially important: Even if I needed more time than others, I AM going to get this doctorate! :)
Hey, so, what PHD are you going for? Might want to add it to your bio. Might be important for some people. You never know who you're going to meet here.
Nice to meet you
hey! I'm doing a PhD in Protestant Theology - Church History, to be precise. I'm analysing anti-Anabaptist writings of a Lutheran Reformer. I started the PhD in 2014 and ... have been at this for a long time, but I hand in everything next year and will (hopefully) get my PhD. I have been doing this as a ... "hobby" - I'm doing this in Germany and didn't get a job with my professor. I have been working on the side and have been at home over the last ... six years now, trying to finish it. It's gonna be good! Or so I hope. ;) I never really added it to my bio because I don't expect to get a job with it, so to speak, definitely not on an American fandom website. ;)
Nice to meet you, too! :)

In all honesty, after working with both the Forest app and the Study Bunny App, the Study Bunny wins the day.
Things I didn’t like about the Forest app
I only ever had the free version, meaning that after an update last year(?), a lot of trees I had been wanting to unlock were suddenly unavailable to me
The timer was always counting down. On bad or difficult days, it’s really dishardening to see “oh I have 40 minutes to go ...”
Another thing about the time was that I had to say in advance how long I wanted to study. There was no option for me set it to “well, let’s start and then see how it goes!” If I did study longer (say, I opted for 30 minutes and then went for a whole hour), the tree did not automatically develop.
I felt betrayed every time I “bought” a new tree with my hard-earned coins only to discover that I will never get to “final” version without studying for two hours straight. The “earlier” stages of the tree sometimes looked downright BAH.
Things I love about the Study Bunny app
I can revert the timer to a stop watch. Somehow, “hey, I already studied for 20 minutes!” is a lot easier for me than “oh, I have 40 minutes to go”
Keeping my bunny happy helps me stay motivated and if it stresses me out, I can disable this feature in the options)
I can take a (short) break, no problem.
It is a lot easier to buy small things for the bunny on the side, because there are cheap items in all categories
There is SO MUCH STUFF TO BUY
I really love the to do list feature
and the statistics!
I know that a lot of people love Forest and I know that it’s not expensive but for someone like me, who doesn’t have paypal or venmo or whatever, Study Bunny is a great choice. :)
(And no, this is not a sponsored post)
