Nigerian airline Air Peace is spreading its wings across the Atlantic, announcing a brand new route connecting Lagos' Murtala Muhammed Airport (LOS) to London Gatwick Airport (LGW). This exciting development marks Air Peace's first foray into Europe and signifies a significant expansion of its intercontinental network. Soaring High with Air Peace Air Peace, established in 2014, has rapidly grown to become Nigeria's leading intercontinental airline. They've achieved this remarkable feat by focusing on: Domestic Dominance: Air Peace boasts a robust domestic network, serving 21 destinations across Nigeria. This extensive coverage caters to the needs of local travelers and strengthens their presence within the country. Regional Reach: Extending its reach beyond domestic borders, Air Peace offers 10 regional routes, connecting Nigeria to various African destinations. This allows for seamless travel opportunities across the continent. Intercontinental Expansion: Before the London route announcement, Air Peace already served six intercontinental destinations. This commitment to connecting Nigeria to the wider world speaks volumes about its ambitious growth plans. Unveiling the Lagos-London Gatwick Route The highly anticipated Lagos-London Gatwick route is scheduled to take off on March 30th, 2024. Here are some key details to keep in mind: Direct Connection: This new route will provide a direct link between Lagos and London Gatwick, eliminating the need for layovers and streamlining travel between the two major cities. Strategic Partner: To facilitate this route launch, Air Peace has secured a wet-lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways. This partnership allows Air Peace to utilize a Boeing 787-9 aircraft operated by Norse Atlantic for the Lagos-London Gatwick service. Initial Launch Period: The initial agreement between Air Peace and Norse Atlantic is for two months, starting in April 2024. This timeframe provides an opportunity to assess passenger demand and potentially extend the service depending on its success. Benefits for Travelers The introduction of the Lagos-London Gatwick route offers numerous advantages for travelers: Convenience: The direct flight eliminates the need for layovers, saving passengers valuable travel time and reducing overall journey fatigue. Choice: Air Peace provides another reliable airline option for travelers flying between Lagos and London. This increased competition in the market can potentially lead to more competitive pricing and improved service offerings from all airlines involved. Economic Boost: The new route has the potential to stimulate economic activity in both Nigeria and the UK. Increased tourist traffic can benefit local businesses in both countries while facilitating trade and business travel opportunities. Frequently Asked Questions Q: When will the Lagos-London Gatwick route become operational? The route is scheduled to launch on March 30th, 2024. Q: What type of aircraft will be used for this route? …to embark on total shutdown in 21 days The Nigeria Labour Congress will begin a two-day warning strike on September 5, 2023, in preparation for a total shutdown which will start in 21 days. The decision was taken at the end of its National Executive Council meeting which was held in the early hours of Friday. A communique released by the labour centre and jointly signed by its national president, Joe Ajaero and Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, said it decided to take the decision following the failure of the Tinubu government to enter into dialogue and engage stakeholders within the organised labour on efforts to cushion the effects of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol on the “poor masses”. Already, the organised labour had in August staged a one-day protest which grounded activities in major cities across the country. While listing some of the other reasons why it would mobilise its members for the nationwide shutdown, the centre accused the Nigeria Police of laying siege to the national headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, alleged exploitation of the rights of workers in Imo State, interference in trade union matters by the Abia State Government, proposed demolition by the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, among others. On the resolutions it took, the NLC NEC resolved, “To embark on a total and indefinite shutdown of the nation within 14 working days or 21 days from today until steps are taken by the government to address the excruciating mass suffering and impoverishment being experienced around the country. “To commence a two-day nationwide warning strike on Tuesday & Wednesday the 5th & 6th of September, 2023 to demonstrate our readiness for the indefinite strike later in the month and to also demand that the state vacates the illegally occupied National Headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers; “To embark on a mass protest and rally in Imo State within this month of September 2023 in preparation for a major shutdown of the state to compel the state government to stop the abuse and violation of the rights and privileges of workers and trade unions in the state; “To begin the shutdown of the operations of Airpeace Airline and other companies in the aviation sector that are involved in serial violation of the rights of workers in the sector to freedom of association and to collectively bargain and organise; “To call on communities around the nation to stop taking the law into their own hands but report to the authorities for amicable resolution any matter involving members of the Amalgamated Union of Food Stuffs and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria which is one of our affiliates; “To demand that the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory desists from threatening poor masses in the FCT with demolition of their properties built from their years of toil but should focus more on making houses available to the people. He is not a Minister of Demolition and should be prepared to meet Nigerian workers and citizens on the street if he carries out his insensitive utterances.” Read the full article

By • Olalekan Fagbade BREAKING NLC to shut down Nigeria's economy, declares warning strike over hardship by citizens The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress has concluded plans to embark on a two-day warning strike, beginning from September 5 to 6th, 2023. President of NLC who handed down the threat, in Abuja on Friday, warned that the union would mobilise its affiliates to embark on indefinite strike if the federal government does not take steps to address the excruciating pains Nigerians face at the moment. Ajaero said the union arrived at the decision after a National Executive Council meeting in Abuja. Beyond the strike threats, NLC has accused the federal government of meddling in the union’s affairs, especially the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The union equally lamented that the masses were going through pains following the removal of fuel subsidy, lamenting that there is nothing tangible to ameliorate the suffering of the masses. “We have resolved to embark on a total and indefinite shutdown of the nation within 14 working days or 21 days from today Until steps are taken by the government to address the excruciating mass suffering and impoverishment being experienced around the country. “We will commence a 2-day nationwide warning strike on Tuesday & Wednesday the 5th & 6th of September, 2023 to demonstrate our readiness for the indefinite strike later in the month and to also demand that the State vacates the illegally occupied National Headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). “We also resolved to embark on a mass protest and rally in Imo State within this month of September 2023 in preparation for a major shutdown of the state to compel the state government to stop the abuse and violation of the rights and privileges of workers and trade unions in the state. “We are set to begin the shutdown of the operations of Airpeace Airline and other companies in the Aviation sector that are involved in serial violation of the rights of workers in the sector to freedom of Association and to collectively bargain and Organise,” Ajaero stated on Friday. #NLCdeclaresnationwidestrike

XENOPHOBIA
So my country people came back in their numbers from south Africa this morning. Well all glory to God though some were arrested at the airport for crimes they committed. Well obviously the government didn't see that coming. I just do hope that... for what I wanted to say. But then they are in my prayers.
