You have no idea where you are. You could smell salty and your hair felt crusty and icky. On the other hand, the little blob, König (it calls itself that you refer it as Takoyaki) was crawling along leading you through the trees and soon onto flat airid plans. The flatness turns dry and sandy and there is the ocean.

The little ugly brat vanishes into the water leaving you on the beat.

You could walk away!

You did.

You could smell the scent of civilization (manure). The small village is quant. You found yourself walking from one shot to another. Your sister had left you a note.

“It is easier for your familiar to protect you if they have a weapon.” You found yourself in front of a weapon smith shop. Nothing struck you until a massive axe, like an executioner’s blade.

You needed a few things and had a few money. You needed food for travel new footwear where and a new cloak for the cold.

As night falls you walk back to the ocean to find your very much unhappy and very ungrateful familiar waiting for you. He transforms into a soggy ass man.

“Here, Takoyaki,” he took the ace and stared at it. He swung it around a few times before nodding like it was for him well.

You spend the night on the beach. The cool air of the ocean keeps the summer heat off you. You awoke feeling slimy and sticky. You look down to find your stupid familiar sleeping on your breast again.

“Perv,” you gran it off your skin and drop it into the sand. He curled up as if you dropped a slug in salt. His eyes open and he glared at you.

You get up clean up your clothes and gather your things, that cloak should be done soon.

“Wohin gehst du?” He asks, I look at him, he’s in his human form. A massive hunk of a man. If he wasn’t a familiar you would have surely pounced on him.

“I bought something wait here.” He sat there and you could have sworn it was pouting.

Something was odd.

Your skin crawled the moment you walked into the Villegas. The air was tense and eyes watched you. They were judging and pointing to you. Fear creeps up your back, you stand out like a sore thumb. You kept your head low and got moving but their eyes never stopped staring at you.

You pick up your cloak and try rushing out of the village. Your heart beat loudly in your chest, and fear gripped your mind… if you had a soul your soul be grasped.

“WITCH!” a man in black yells, all the blood rushes from your face as you feel your heartbeat I your ear. You turn and to your horror men on horseback and bow and arrows are waiting.

Boom. Boom. Boom.

You stare on eyes wide like a kitten, body frozen like a baby deer. You were nothing but a child in the face of adults… even if you were a few centuries older than them. You weren’t ready!

Where were your sisters when you needed them? Maybe you should have traveled with them for the first few trips as they suggested.

Your mind went to your familiar… that little thing can’t save you…

Your hands itch and the next thing you know, staff and hand shooting out magic. Fireballs rain down as arrows fly your way. You ran, shoot magic as you did so.

You had nowhere to go! Your sisters were nowhere to protect you. You're a dead witch running.

As your lungs burn and your angry voice screams for your head and your dismemberment. You only had one way out. That stupid ugly thing.

You collapse onto the sand but you can’t find your stupid familiar anywhere.

You’re going to die.

“WITCH!” You froze and stiffen.

You have no energy left. You turn around and back into the ocean. There is a small line were archer ready to shoot you dead.

Arrows fly.

“KÖNIG!” You shout.

The waters erupted. Tentacles shoot out and you turn to find a large monstrous humanoid tentacles man. The small axe in his hand looks like a toothpick. You cast an increasing size magic on it and soon the axe fit his new size.

He swung it, cutting man and horse apart, blood oozing into the sands.

You fall into his tentacles.

“He is very loyal”

“Maybe having a familiar doesn’t suck…

(This ask is at least a year old but I missed it before so I am PULLING IT UP AGAIN)

Why not do a guy from a long time ago that's still around.

Seth Cienmosc is from 2010 at the earliest and has been around a long long time through Calibreon's development and at the core of his character almost always has been "um idk evil guy whos secretly a demon with long black hair." And he used to look like THIS.

2011 sends its regards.

His "demon" form used to look like this. And it still. Makes me laugh every time but it's endearing to still have it.

A lot has stuck with him character wise (he is from my world a "Daemon" though the name holds no theme to the Christian mythology, I just never changed it) but now instead of a ~special secret demon boy~ that's just a species in my headworld.

He's from the Haederan steppes- and airid place that's full of scrublands. He is a prince, son to Trun, brother to Kett and son to Safiya Kiennock. He's a linguist, youngest of the two brothers and despised by his father who prefers brutish nature to wits but Seth stays out of his way for the most part in his early story, so he gets away with it.

This art is a little old (from 2019). There's a lot to talk about him so I won't go too far into details here but this was a fun exercise exploring him at different points in his life. He went from a very typical "bad guys have face scars." with very shallow character (not a great thing), to one of my most beloved in a few short years with a very rich, tragic, complicated and politically driven backstory.

From being nothing more than "just some bad guy." to a character who can easily be considered one of the "main characters." Of Calibreon, a political powerhouse, musician, performer, expert linguist, husband, and the best at bringing cookies to PTA meetings for his dsughter. He's near and dear to my heart. And I'll close out this simple writeup with his most up-to-date refs to show what he looks like now!

Favorite Albums That I Listened to in 2023

I'm not a huge fan of listening to albums, so I'm actually surprised as to how many I listened to in the past year: though that's mostly because a friend and I started giving each other album recommendations.

Cracker Island Gorillaz, 2023

I was excitedly anticipating this one, though I'm a pretty moderate Gorillaz fan. They had some great collaborations on this one, such as Bootie Brown, Beck, Bad Bunny, and Stevie Nicks! It's not my favorite Gorillaz album but still a pretty solid one.

Favorite songs: "Cracker Island", "Oil", "Skinny Ape", and "Silent Running".

Bella Donna Stevie Nicks, 1981

In contrast to Cracker Island and Gorillaz, I am a huge Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac fan. Bella Donna is Nicks' debut solo album, and I absolutely love how powerful it feels, and the Nicks era that it ushered in.

Favorite songs: "Edge of Seventeen", "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"

The Kick Inside Kate Bush, 1978

Kate Bush is an artist that I love dearly, though I usually prefer to cherry-pick her songs rather than listening to entire albums of hers, usually because each individual song on her albums vary greatly by tone. I would say that The Kick Inside is one of the few that I do enjoy listening to from beginning-to-end. Some of my absolute favorites of Kate Bush come from this album, and overall, it does have a pretty consistent tone. It's airid, ethereal, comedic and whimsical.

Favorite songs: "The Saxophone Song", "Wuthering Heights" (!!!!!!) "Oh to Be in Love", "L'Amour Looks Something Like You" (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The Queen is Dead The Smiths, 1986

Very appropriate listen for 2023.

I don't know much about The Smiths lore or what it says about me that I like them or whatever, I just enjoy listening to their music :).

Melt My Eyez See Your Future Denzel Curry, 2022

This was one that was recommended to me by a friend based on his personal taste, which is pretty different from mine. I absolutely adore this album's sound. It has a sort of vulnerable charm to it.

Favorite songs: "Walkin", "Mental"

Are You Experienced Jimi Hendrix, 1967

I only started listening to Jimi Hendrix in 2023, and boy have I been missing out. His voice!!! His sound!!!! His guitar!!!!! Him!!!! Absolutely spectacular. This is Exhibit A in music that changes you. I feel like that scene in Elvis where all the girls lose their minds when I listen to this album.

Favorite songs: "Purple Haze", "Manic Depression", "Hey Joe", "Love Or Confusion", "The Wind Cries Mary" (!!!!!!) "Are You Experienced", "Highway Chile"

Hozier Hozier, 2014

I listen to this one and I think, "Yep, this is a Hozier album." Idk how else to describe it. Quintessential Hozier: ethereal, folksy, bee-boppy.

Favorite songs: "Jackie And Wilson", "From Eden", "Someone New", "Sedated", "Work Song" (!!!!!!!!)

Wasteland, Baby! Hozier, 2019

Again, quintessential Hozier, yet a bit more refined, more dark and romantic. Hozier's artistry is aging like wine. Transcendent.

Favorite songs: "Almost (Sweet Music)" (!!!!!) "Movement" (!!!!!) "Would That I", "Sunlight"

Never for Ever Kate Bush, 1980

Kate Bush at her finest. She is my everything. Similar to The Kick Inside, this one is whimsical and comedic, yet it differs with a much heavier weight and increased closeness.

Favorite songs: "Babooshka", "The Wedding List", "Army Dreamers" (!!!!!)

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars David Bowie, 1972

I want this buried with me. My absolute favorite of Bowie's albums. It has a transcendent proximity, a sentence which makes no sense. It feels close and far away at the same time (what I am pretentiously describing is called an echo).

Favorite songs: "Five Years", "Soul Love", "Starman", "It Ain't Easy", "Lady Stardust", "Star", "Ziggy Stardust", "Suffragette City", "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide"

Superclean, Vol. II The Marías, 2018

Another one of my friend's recommendations. This one puts me in a good mood and clears my mind. :)

Thee Sacred Souls Thee Sacred Souls, 2022

The Greta Van Fleet of soul, taking it back to one of the most recognizable sounds from the genre. They're just so sweet.

Favorite songs: "Lady Love", "Easier Said Than Done", "Future Lover" (I have a t-shirt of theirs with this song's lyrics)

Also, it's not on this album but "Running Away" is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC AND I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF IT.

Mozart: Requiem Mozart, Karitta Mattila, Sara Minguardo, Michael Schade, Bryn Terfel, Berliner Philharmoniker

It has the drama. It'll make you feel like you're in a Donna Tartt novel. I have a bit of a hard time sitting through classical albums but this one is endlessly captivating.

Favorite songs: "Requiem, K. 626: I. Introitus. Requiem aeternam", "Requiem, K. 626: III. Sequentia: f. Lacrimosa", "Requiem, K. 626: V. Sanctus"

Final Thoughts: Quite a wide range of genres this year, though I must say I enjoyed stepping out of my usual listening tendencies and exploring some genres I was heavily deprived in.

If you realize you or someone else is experiencing heat exhaustion/stroke, after getting out of the sun, one thing you can do to bring down their body temperature is stream cool water over the inside of their wrists. This allows for evaporative cooling to happen right where a bunch of blood is near the surface. This now cooler blood is sent to the heart and then sent through your body. This of course is more useful in an airid climate where things dry faster than in a tropical climate.

Cool showers are a great way as well. You want a water temp that is slightly cooler than body temp. If it's too warm you increase your body temp, and if it's too cold it triggers your body to warm up, which isn't what you want. If you've reached heat exhaustion/stroke, just sitting under the running water for 10-15 minutes will make a huge difference.

If you are in a location where it gets hot and you don't have regular access to ac, I recommend getting a cooling neck tie. They assist with evaporative cooling right by your head, which is the part of your body that really needs to be kept cool

Also, if you're looking to rehydrate, especially if you've reached heat exhaustion, water is a lot less helpful for rapid rehydration than you'd think. In order for your body to absorb it quickly, liquids need to have things dissolved in them, ideally sugar and electrolytes. I personally prefer 1 part fruit juice and 2-3 parts coconut water. It's a combination that's saved my ass more than a few times when I lived in Arizona.

If you're in the Southeastern US, a glass of iced sweet tea or lemonade is a great way to rehydrate.

Noelle blushes as she locks arms with her, but allows herself to be guided.

The mage tells her of a grim city, with buildings as big as mountains. Of a wasteland of airid dirt that seemed to stretch endlessly. Of a lush island ruled over by a cranky ogress.

She speaks of her research, and how she'd become distracted making a copy of her spellbook. How she was thinking of getting a vehicle for herself. How she learned of angels making pacts, like devils, and how she managed to find an artifact with a baffling enchantment that she believes hides a clue as to the fate of her missing sound.

Noelle brightened at the warm response. "Hello, Miss Achara! I'm sorry for being away for so long! I brought you something!" She offered her a gift of food and tea from Piltover's markets, as well as a small rainbow of spices with curious labels like 'calm' and 'joy'. @songofsilentechoes

The woman's eyes seemed to sparkle as she laid eyes on the multiple vials of spices brought to her by Noelle. Even after several months of no contact, the mage knew exactly how to charm the medicine woman.

Gently taking the bag of items from the other, Achara would gently motion toward her home and clinic "You must be tired from your journey. Come, let me brew you some rejuvenating tea." She'd gently wrap an arm around the smaller woman's arm. "I also wish to hear your travel stories and updates on your research."
