hi, i've been following you for a while now because it seems we have similar taste in media (especially thematically). an agonizing event occurred last week that's left me somewhat selectively mute and unable to work. i can't find joy or interest or love for anything. the locked tomb has always been there for me during my lowest points (me and harrow are like this 🤞) but i'm in such a horrible place that not even muir is helping. i love reading your TLT metas and trust your judgement based on those, so i was wondering if you had any recommendations for books/media that deals with grief and loss in fantastical settings. or just big, messy, taboo feelings in general. i'm looking for anything at this point.
Hi anon, sorry to hear this and I really hope you feel better soon. I'm sending you a big hug if you want it and I'm thinking of you very fondly. I'm not sure I can recommend exactly what you're asking for but I dearly hope some of these can distract you a bit. Please let me know if you want further content warnings + if anyone else has recs, feel free to chime in!
The Screwfly Solution by James Tiptree Jr. — This is a short story that I reread about once a year when I really want something that'll hit and fuck me up. You can find it in full here. It's an apocalyptic short story, very haunting, and the last line hits like a punch in the gut. CW for gendered violence all over the place if that's something you'd rather avoid.
The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende — This is a generational saga set in 20th century Cile. It isn't sff, although it does have some magical realism elements, so I'm chetaing and putting it in here anyway. The first time I read it, it made me cry, and it remains my favourite Allende novel.
The Last Man Alive by A.S. Neill — A middle grade speculative fiction written in 1930s Britain, which is ostensibly for kids but, in the tradition of British children's literature, gets pretty fucking dark and creepy. It's about a group of schoolchildren and their teacher who survived a poisonous cloud that turned everyone else into stone, and by everyone else I mean the entire world. It gets pretty dark at times, and I remember being sucked-punched finishing the book and reading in the afterword what happened to each of the children who were the inspiration for the characters in the book. It's a very weird little novel, but also interesting in that "vintage scifi" vibe.
Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge — This is another middle grade novel and probably the lightest read of this entire fic; [spoilers ahead] it's about a changeling who doesn't have a memory of being made, and at first thinks she is the human girl she was meant to replace, and only slowly realises that something is wrong. It's ultimately a feel-good story but I found it bittersweet all around, and I think the themes of identity and self growth + the creepy fairytale vibes make it worth a rec in case you think it could help right now.
Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica — This is a book about the mundane day-to-day happenings in a dystopia where cannibalism has been legitimised as a form of population control, and large swats of people are regarded as subhuman and eaten. It's very bleak and more plot driven than character-driven, so I'm hesitant to rec it if your usual go-to is TLT; but I think the story does very good things with the tight narrator POV + there are themes of alienations from family, eldercare and anticipation of grief. It's definitely a story that fucked me up a bit.
+ not sff in the least, but I finished this book very recently and it's still on my mind: I recently read The Manicurist's Daughter, a memoir that's primarily about dealing with grief from the loss of a parent, and how grief can destroy a family + trying to reconnect despite that. It's not exactly engrossing in parts, and I'm not sure I should rec it here because I found it too slow-paced to count as a real "cathartic read" but there was something about the numbness after suffering a loss and the ugly side of it that really spoke to me.
+ not a book and I haven't watched it in years but I think you might enjoy Revolutionary Girl Utena if you haven't seen it already. It spoke to me in the same way some parts of TLT do (and it's very gay)

hi! sorry to annoy you again, lovely - i'm the 💜 anon.
may i ask what are your favourite books or series? either non-fiction or fiction?
i love asking people this question bc i'm going to add it to my list <3 !!
Hello! And no need to apologize, I should be the one apologizing because I wasn't here for the past few days much so sorry for the late answer 💜
I'm not much of a reader lately but the books I've read and enjoyed would be, for example (all the links lead to amazon):
Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica (2017)
The Taming of the Shrew by W. Shakespeare (1594)
R.U.R. by Karel Čapek (1921)
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka (1915)
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (1937)
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou (1969)
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (1st book) by Holly Jackson (2019)
Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (1321)
I would highly recommend R.U.R - first time the word "robot" was created and it's said to be one of the pillars of today's scifi genre (if you find it in English, I read the original aka in Czech) - and The Metamorphosis by Kafka are my two ult fav books of all time
I cried reading Of Mice and Men and still haven't recovered from the ending (and I read that book 6 years ago). No kidding.

as someone who does go out of their way to read books containing cannibalism, do you have any recs?
hi, anon!
tbh, i only began reading novels again very recently, so i probably don't have anything groundbreaking or unexpected to suggest, but here are books i have read that i enjoyed, featuring cannibalism at least to some extent:
Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
The Eyes Are the Best Part by Monika Kim
Tokyo Ghoul by Sui Ishida
books i plan to read that allegedly feature cannibalism:
Off Season by Jack Ketchum
Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
Succulent Prey by Wrath James White
Cannibal by Chuck Palahniuk
hope this helps! let me know if there are others you have read and recommend that maybe would suit my reading tastes. (pun intended??? sure.)
p.s. there are others that i have read where cannibalism might be a plot spoiler, so i am going to put them under the cut.
if you like smutty dark romance books, Butcher & Blackbird has a scene that contains Hannibal-style cannibalism.
Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman features a drug that is technically made from corpses that helps a person see ghosts, so it might not totally qualify.
The Centre contains it but it's not really on screen.
Chainsaw Man eventually has cannibalism.

Can someone translate what they talk about in the new reel Agus posted with Chris, Aron, Code and Kexxy?
1. First one is, that one of them has slept with the biggest artist in the world (I really wanna know more about this one 😂)
2. Agustina is saying something about someone falling in love and then the girl did something (probably talked about herself)
3. Aron said that someone had multiple boyfriends in different countries and they call her mrs.worldwide (Kexxy? 👀😂)
4. Agustina said that someone tried to hook up with their ex but couldn’t (i feel like Chris blushed a bit at this and it made me mad curious 😂)
5. The guy, who always looks tired said that someone keeps going back to their ex (notice how his eyes drift right to Agustina)
6. aron said that someone has a new girlfriend every week (i wonder who 😏)
7. Chris said that someone likes cuban food (too save. It's boring 🙄)
8. agustina said that someone got heartbroken not long ago (probably herself agian)
9. Agustina also said that someone likes their friend (does Chris like either Kexxy or Agustina? Or they like him? I automatically think that Chris is involved 😂)
10. Kexxy said someone has a sugar daddy/mommy (i would take a sugardaddy if he didn't want no sugar 🤣🤣🤣. I automatically thought Agustina and her sugardaddy being the dude with the yacht where she celebrated her birthday 🥴)
11. Aron said that someone went viral because of the argentine team in the world cup (🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️)
12. Chris said someone likes to masturbate every day and Aron was commented “that was before dude” (🤣🤣🤣)
Applause to my good friend, who took the time to translate it for us, as best as she could 👏🏻👏🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

When will you pay for your heinous crimes.
For anyone reading this, I would like to apologize in advance.
This is not part of your regularly-scheduled programming.
This is in reference to the Father Garupe Coffee Shop/Fluff/Kid-Fic/Cattle-Farming AU that some shitty anon (read: me, it was me) provoked G into writing.
Here you go, @ohiobluetip. Consider this my Hail Mary.
Tumblr media
You pound at the door of the humble thatch-and-stone cottage, sweat dripping from your sun-beaten brow.
The harrowing climb up the slopes of Mt. Yasumandake had made every muscle in your body scream with pain—or that could just be from the scurvy you developed on the boat journey to Hirado Island—and humidity clings to the overpriced lingerie you wear under your 17th-century nun’s habit, but you don’t give a flying fuck. You squeeze the INTERPOL badge at your hip. This is your God-given duty.
You’re met with the black eyes of Father Francisco Garupe as the weathered wooden door creaks open, but his face is changed since you last saw him; while his slim frame and angular features remain the same, his cheeks are much plumpened from Japanese cow’s milk.
“You know what I’ve come for,” you say, your voice cold as iron.
Garupe nods somberly. “I do, sister.”
Good. You’d worried that he would protest, that he would refuse, that he’d rather drown in the ocean than—oh, err, sorry. Too soon to joke?
“Give me but a moment, sister,” he says, peering over his shoulder into the cottage. You hear shuffling about inside. “Adoración Agustina Encarnación de Francisca! Come here.”
Confused, you watch as a young, black-eyed girl emerges from behind Garupe, offering up a small, swaddled bundle. Garupe plucks it from her tiny arms and transfers it to you.
“The fuck?!” you ask as he places a newborn baby in your arms.
“Please hold my youngest, sister. His name is… Charlie. I will return shortly.” He turns on his heel and disappears into the interior.
Stunned, you stare down at baby!Charlie. He coos up at you softly, then promptly and violently shits his thin cloth diaper.
Before you can find a flowerbox to leave the baby in, Father Garupe returns with a perfectly-frothed whole-milk matcha latte.
“I hope this is to your liking, sister,” he says, plucking baby!Charlie from your grip and handing you the warm, artisanal ceramic mug. “It is drinking-temperature. Jyn milked the cows this morning.”
You notice the latte art is an intricate and extremely adorable panda flipping you off.
“But pandas don’t even fucking LIVE in Japan,” you snarl.
He exhales deeply. “Jyn told me you’d say that during our morning fingerblasting session today. But pandas also don’t have fingers, yet you did not comment on that.”
“JYN NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!”
He hands baby!Charlie to Adoración Agustina Encarnación de Francisca and gently shoos her off, probably to go fall down a hillside or get eaten by pandas or something.
“Jyn is a child of God, now. All sins are forgiven,” he says.
“That’s bullshit and you know it, Frisco,” you sneer.
“TAKE ME INSTEAD! TAKE ME INSTEAD! YOU HAVE A WHOLE CREEPY BAD PRIEST AU TO FINISH! TAKE ME INSTEAD!” He’s screaming like a madman, and it’s hurting your ears. Hmm, or maybe that’s the scurvy, too.
“SHUT! THE FUCK! UP!” you yell, sounding an awful lot like Adam Sackler from some season of HBO Girls I can’t remember the number of. “I have to get out of this shitpost right now.”
Oh no, Jyn thinks, have I fucked this up by breaking the fourth wall and using two different ‘I’s in the same paragraph?
“Shut up, Jyn,” you say.
You can hear me?! Jyn thinks.
“Yeah, I can. And I’m outta here. Why don’t you fill some ACTUAL prompts while I respond to your 47 other shitty asks?”
I’m sick of this callout culture, Jyn thinks, but I think Garupe has some more shit to say to you.
“Fine,” you say.
“Kneel, sweet sister.” Garupe’s words are like poisoned wine dripping down your throat—intoxicating, irresistible, deadly. “I wish to bless you before you go.”
In spite of yourself, you sink down before him, the cold, rough limestone of the cottage’s threshold biting into your shins.
Parting his long, black robes, he exposes his matchstick thighs clad in acid-wash denim short-shorts. In one swift motion, he shucks the jorts down to his ankles, revealing his veiny, purple, one-and-a-half-foot long Jesuit cock. “I heard you like watersports, Sister G. Let me offer you some of my... Holy Water.”
