YSEALI Seeds: Dassatek – Awakening Young Farmer
Tumblr media
About the Project
Dassatek empowers rural Cambodian youths to have decent work and sustained economic growth through three programs:
Youth Develop Youth Program (YDYP) provides capacity building training for personal development, agribusiness, and money management.
Agroecology Youth Program (AYP) provides a vegetable garden apprenticeship and seed grants for garden projects.
Young Agripreneur Program (YAP) assists small-scale vegetable farmers to transform themselves into small-scale vegetable farming businesses.
Dassatek's programs aim to help rural Cambodian youths reach their full potential, regenerate natural ecosystems, and contribute to the country's economic development.
Tumblr media
Why do you care about this specific topic/issue?
Food is our most basic need, yet we lack youth participation in agriculture. This is because agriculture does not meet the needs of young people for personal development and sustained economic growth. Additionally, agriculture is a major driver of environmental degradation, including deforestation, biodiversity loss, topsoil loss, water pollution, and climate change.
However, farmers are modern-day earth warriors. With the right farming practices and food system, we can regenerate our natural resources, restore balance to our natural ecosystem and tackle climate change. Together, we can awaken to the importance of farming and living in harmony with nature.
Why did you decide to start this project?
I applied for YSEALI Seeds twice in 2021 and 2022. I was not selected back in 2021. Having worked directly with youths and farmers in an agricultural cooperative in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, for a whole year, I got more experience and understanding of the needs and problems of youths and farmers. It gave me more confidence and allowed me to improve my application to apply again.
Tumblr media
What are your goals for this project?
Overall Goal: To create a sustainable business that provides safe and organic vegetables to households and restaurants in Cambodia, while also providing training and support to rural youths and small-scale vegetable farmers.
Specific Objectives:
In 2023, recruit 6 core youths from 4 provinces, support them to create 5 vegetable gardens and coordinate them to form a youth hub.
In 2024, transform the project into a business startup that collectively produces and supplies safe or organic vegetables directly to households and restaurants in the capital city and locally.
In 2027, evolve the business to provide incubation and acceleration services to assist small-scale vegetable farmers and agricultural cooperatives in Cambodia to start-up and operate vegetable farming businesses.
How will YSEALI Seeds help you achieve your goals?
YSEALI Seeds has given us the resources to implement the idea I proposed. Through this grant, I got to spread our mission and action plan to broader audiences which has allowed our project to attract potential youths with the same mission. With this funding, we have been able to implement our mission-driven activities and make a prototype business model to launch the second phase of our project next year, transforming our project into a business startup that collectively produces and supplies safe or organic vegetables directly to households and restaurants in the capital city and locally.
Tumblr media
What have you accomplished and implemented so far?
We have:
Recruited 7 core youths from diverse backgrounds in 4 provinces with 5 sites for them to turn into diversified vegetable gardens.
Officially launched our project with representatives from the government, the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, private and public sector, and a news agency.
Finished our 3-day training on personal development, “agripreneurship”, and basic money management in Phnom Penh.
Been featured by two different news agencies.
Established 9 key partnerships.
Been selected to present our project in the Young Challenger Experience in Berlin, Germany, in November 2023.
What are the most significant lessons learned you've experienced so far?
Putting together a solid team is a great challenge especially in the beginning of the project. Don’t lose faith. Adhere to the vision, mission cause, and value. You will then attract the right team members. When that happens, it doesn’t mean they are going to be in with the project 100% and forever. Give them time, space, and freedom to explore, and to understand the project deeper, and decide for themselves.
Tumblr media
What are the success stories you can share with others who would like to do the same type of activity and/or project like yours?
It’s a success for us when we helped some of the core youths to travel out of their village to the capital city for the first time. It’s a success for us when we see our core youths from rural areas get excited to meet other youths from other provinces or the capital city. It’s a success for us when they still want to join our program with the intention to grow despite some apprehension from some of their families. It’s a success for us when some of our youths told us that they have entrusted their children’s future and development to us despite the fact that they have just met each other. It’s a success for us to discover farmers who genuinely see the value of their work and truly support their children to work in agribusiness.

Anand Mani Tripathi's Induz Organic brings back India's organic food culture
Aryavarta Organics works with a network of certified organic farmers and farms to procure fresh and seasonal produce
Tumblr media
Research says that how the food on our table is grown has a huge impact on our mental and emotional health. It also impacts the environment and most of us are blissfully ignorant of it. Truth is, most organic foods have more beneficial nutrients including antioxidants compared to the produce from modern farming techniques. This goodness of organic food is what Aryavarta Organics Pvt. Ltd. aims to bring to people’s tables in India.
“Organic foods have immense benefits. Buying organically grown food items that are free of harmful chemicals is a logical choice. Add to it the benefits of more nutrition, taste, and sustainability and you have a surefire winner. Organic foods are also extremely beneficial for people with allergies. Such people report that their symptoms lessen or even disappear altogether when their diet comprises only organic foods. No wonder that the future is going to be organic,” says Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi, Founder and CEO, Aryavarta Organics Pvt. Ltd., the Jaipur, Rajasthan, based company that is fast growing in popularity owing to the wonderful quality of its organic food products.
Aryavarta Organics Pvt. We promote use of on-farm resources (biofertilizers), smart farming techniques and we strongly believe in promoting agripreneurship among farmers. We are proud to create sustainable rural employment and farmer empowerment and we offer them just wages. For our buyers, we maintain hygienic and safe storage facilities to be able to deliver fresh and healthy products to them. We take pride in being able to bring the ancient indian culture back in fashion for betterment of all living entities,” shares Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi.
Tumblr media
Aryavarta Organics works with a network of certified organic farmers and farms to procure fresh and seasonal produce. The Aryavarta Organic owned, and farmers’ agriculture farms, both focus on organic philosophy and practice organic farming for the promotion and development of organic food. “We are also registered with APEDA (Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) Government of India, as producers and suppliers of Organic Food Products. We place extra emphasis on ensuring that the purity, quality, product packaging and labeling is of the highest international standards,” further elaborates Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi.
Aryavarta Organics’ Project and Field officers are constantly involved with R&D in the fields, so as to help the farmers ensure quality and quantity production through Crop Rotation, Green Manures, Farm yard manures, Vermicompost, Biological & natural inputs such as herbal growth promoters and highly selective indigenous seeds varieties to suit different agro climatic zones in India.
“The production of our foods adheres to global standards. All our products are 100% Chemical Free. There is 0% Adulteration and no Artificial Colors are used whatsoever in any of our products. We make efforts to retain the original natural aroma and taste of every product. Needless to say, our whole process is extremely good for the environment and our planet too. When you buy one of our products, you are guaranteed to get Purity and Natural Goodness,” says Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi with obvious pride.
With so much of passion for everything organic, we wonder what got him into all this in the first place and Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi shares with us the inspiration behind the ambitious project that Aryavarta Organics is.
“The seeds of Aryavarta Organic Foods were sown in Ancient India when it was known as Aryavarta or Bharatvarsha. We named our brand Induz with a firm belief in the great ancient Indian culture, scripts and philosophies. The company was founded in 2018 on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, the same day when the Universe was created by God Brahma and our civilization is believed to have started. Now, you can see how important our ancient culture is to us as an organisation," says Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi.
Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi is a result oriented professional with more than 12 years of experience in organic agriculture field, cultivation, procurement, corporate/ institutional sales/ channel sales, operations and channel management. These days he devotes all his time to his own company, Aryavarta Organics Pvt. Ltd., which is represented in the market by its brand INDUZ ORGANIC. He has done a lot of research on the culture and traditions of ancient India and its history and he sincerely believes that our lives will be revolutionised just by practicing and valuing them.
“My present goal is to bring a paradigm shift in people's food habits and turn them towards Organic Food. And then, in a few years from now, we will also bring Ayurveda and try to replace Allopathy. And finally, I'd like to see our education system change to the ancient Gurukul system which teaches happiness and tranquility. So, I have my goals set. Now, I just need to work hard and achieve them,” concludes a smiling Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi.
Needless to say, Mr. Anand Mani Tripathi is an idealist who wishes to see everyone turn to organic foods for the betterment of mankind and this planet. Despite recent advances in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, and medicine, India remains an agrarian society. However, because there is a high demand for qualified agricultural professionals, science students in India are more interested in pursuing a career in agriculture. It is crucial for the growth of the future. According to economists, agriculture is four times more effective than any other sector in reducing poverty. For young entrepreneurs, it may even be a gold mine. A student pursuing a B.SC Hons Agriculture program at UMU will study a wide variety of subjects including agronomy, animal sciences, entomology, plant biochemistry, extension education, plant breeding, and genetics, soil sciences, horticulture, plant pathology, agriculture economics, basics of biotechnology, etc. The course syllabus is based on ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) guidelines and is intended to teach students how to improve crop production sustainably while also providing overall knowledge on agriculture and its allied sectors.
B.SC Hons Agriculture is a four-year undergraduate degree program in agriculture and its applications. The program covers agricultural science as well as the application of contemporary agricultural practices and equipment in practical use. Students at UMU are given all of the skills and information necessary to cope with many sectors of agriculture, such as agriculture business, food production, agriculture sales, etc. This course’s main goal is to give students a thorough understanding of soil science, animal husbandry management, water resources and their management, land surveying, and a few aspects of biotechnology. The course covers a variety of agricultural practices, as well as the application of modern fertilizers to improve crop quality and productivity through the use of modern technologies. The B.SC Hons Agriculture program emphasizes the application of various technological factors for the betterment of agriculture.
The B.SC Hons Agriculture program at UMU places equal emphasis on the theory and practice of agriculture, ensuring that knowledge is applied and hands-on skills are developed. The classroom teaching is supported by study tours, and field trips. Students are exposed to commercial farms to gain real-world agricultural experience. A degree in agriculture qualifies you to appear in competitive exams such as the UPSC-IFSC (Indian Forest Services) Exam, the IBPS SO Exam, the UGC-NET Exam, the State Forest Exam, and the NABARD Grade-A Exam. You can serve in the government sector after passing any of these exams. Higher education in this discipline, such as M.Sc., Ph.D., and M.Phil. in Agriculture, might lead to a position as a lecturer at any university or college. Graduates of this program can also work in government-run agriculture research centers. You can go into business for yourself. You can also pursue a career in banking by appearing in the IBPS exam. Therefore, if you want to pursue an agriculture program at one of the finest universities for agriculture studies, Usha Martin University would be an excellent choice.
