They consist of a horizontally heated shell with end covers and a rotor with bolt-on blades. The wet product filled by the inlet nozzle is lifted by the rotor blade, mounted on the hot wall and at the same time fed to the opposite end of the body towards the outlet nozzle. The generated vapors are currently flowing backwards for the flow of products and placing the dryer near the feed nozzle. The residence time of the product is usually between 5 to 15 minutes.

The outstanding rate of heat transfer for hot solid products enables the cooling of large amounts of solids in a compact machine compared to the commonly used cooling screws and without cold air. As the urea melts into a melting product, the particles are heated and melted inside a dryer. The melt can be mixed with other liquids and solids to improve the properties of the final products.

 The industrial waste water often is laden with dissolved salts and organic compounds. Such streams if discharged untreated will pollute the environment.

The industrial waste water treatment involves separation of dissolved salts from water and minimisation of organic compounds before it is taken for further treatment in conventional Effluent treatment Plant (ETP) to reduce BOD/ COD values.

Stripping Column : The organic contaminants are removed to the extent possible by using a counter current steam stripping column.

Multiple Effect Evaporator (MEE) :The feed is then taken to a multiple effect evaporator to minimise the volume by evaporating the water. The energy required and hence the operating cost of MEE is minimised by using multiple stages. The number of effects to be employed is decided by the optimization between the initial investment and the corresponding operating costs. Higher capacities justify more number of effects. Use of thermal vapour re-compressor utilizes high pressure motive steam to further improve the steam economy.

The resultant slurry is taken to a sludge dryer where remaining water is driven out to get solid mass of salts and heavy organics.

The indirectly heated sludge dryer eliminates air pollution and gives unmatched thermal efficiency of more than 90 %.
