The view of the body in the era of blurring boundaries between public and private realms has become an essential tool for flaunting the need for acceptance, equal rights and freedom, including artistic creation. The ease of sharing that has been offered by social media works in two directions, and the changing reality imposes on the performances of the bodies still different interpretations, often radical, conditioned politically and ideologically. Crossing the limits of intimacy puts the body under the pillory of opinions and judgments (...).
Body Works is the title of the exhibition-intervention at the State Art Gallery in Sopot — a selection of works by several dozen artists. The exhibition and series of events — confronting a number of practices and formats — is dedicated to the human body, placed in various contexts related to censorship and politics among others.
Body Works follows up one of the chapters of the Somewhere in Between. Contemporary Art Scenes in Europe at BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels (2018).
