I must ask what you would write about if you wrote your own booktok book....

Oh this is a hard question to answer. I can’t give you a synopsis but I can tell you some themes would include.

I’d imagine the MC to be a queer Desi girl, around 16/17.

Performative activism. Not from MC but from other characters.

How sexuality and race shapes your identity.

MC is pretty strong in her values and embraces being queer and Desi.

Her best friend is the opposite. She’s not queerphobic but the internalised homophobia. Ironically, ignoring/shunning her identity as a queer girl has also shaped her identity.

Back to themes. We are absolutely not doing the unaccepting Asian parents trope. She’s having typical parents.

I do want her to feel tokenised by her peers. “The Indian girl” “The queer girl” and she tried running away from the tokenising but she feels like she’s not true to herself. And She feels like she’s doing a disservice to her culture and the queer community by falling into the boxes.

Best friend should have an arc that makes them realise that being queer and being open and proud of being queer is not a bad thing.

Maybe a romance? I was planning it to go in that direction but it doesn’t seem that way.

You should probably know that the few original stories I do have in my head are just floating thoughts. I came up with this just now and I’m realising it reads as an Adiba Jaigirdar book. Whatever. It’s 1am and I’m barely blinking. I promise you I can write and be creative, but I’m just not in the right state of mind to plot a book out.
