Yeah I agree wholeheartedly! Hanako has done bad things, he’s a murderer for one and two, he legitimately locked nene up and decided to fight her and her friends to keep her in the fake world. Like I’m not hating on any character but sometimes it’s better to realize that Hanako and Tsukasa are children and that putting these huge expectations on Tsukasa because Hanako is “more mature” is so stupid. Tsukasa may be smart and calculating but every child genius is still, at their core, a literal kid. Sakura herself says that Tsukasa is a pure child whose kind in his own ways during the volume 16 relay interview (translated by DBS scans on tumblr) and people dismiss this because of Mitsuba like..

Yes, I understand disliking someone because they did something to your comfort character but taking it so far that any shipper is terrified of showing their ships because the fandom will give death threats? That’s not okay. Tsukasa is allowed to have relationships, especially when we realize that at the end of day, he’s a child. Children can be abusive, yes, but Iro has shown time and time again that Tsukasa is simply childish, stupid and childish and doing things for his benefit without thinking too much ahead. This fandom goes so hard on “Tsukasa has horrible relationships with everyone so any relationship he has is toxic” that it’s genuinely terrifying to talk to anyone in the fandom because as someone who was harassed constantly for simply shipping Tsukasa with Kou or Mitsuba, I have a huge distrust of this fandom

-Amane / Hanako has never hated tsukasa, he’s guilty about the murder

-Mitsuba has never stated he was scared of tsukasa, he says Tsukasa is scary, there’s a difference

-Tsukasa having no empathy does not make him a cruel monster. Autistic children have no empathy so by their logic, anyone whose autistic is also a monster? :/

-Kou attacked Tsukasa first, since then, Tsukasa has quite literally never landed a hand on kou of his own accord. It was always Kou rushing forward

-No one is saying him almost hurting nene is okay but considering Hanako locks her up and tries to decide every decision for her, I’m skeptical on this fandom’s view of “toxic” because Hanako’s actions are unhealthy but they aren’t calling them out

-At the end of the day, shipping Tsukasa shouldn’t be so bad that people are getting harassed over it because Tsukasa, even as a ghost has his core traits

•affection (his love for his brother)

•protectiveness (his hatred about no.3 picking on people)

•selfless actions (when has he ever done anything for himself that wasn’t rumor related? 🤔 plus, he does things for Mitsuba with no payment in return during hell of mirrors and after it)

•compassion (he has compassion and sympathy, literally look at anytime during the red arc where he stayed compassionate even with a demon hole inside of him; hell, if we look at ghost him, he shows his compassion for his friends in the broadcasting club in his own weird way)

•kindness (^ same as above)

•childishness (he’s literally a dumb 13 year old whose always excited and never thinks ahead of his actions)

Like, these are all traits Hanako has to but because Hanako is “helping”, Tsukasa’s traits get erased and all the fandom sees him as is this evil monster character when he’s literally… just a kid who was murdered because he tried to help his brother.

This fandom really needs to stop excluding Tsukasa from the fan base and also, sorry for this huge rant, I love the yugi Twins but it’s so sad when only one is seen as a “entirely good person” and the other is seen as a devilish monster who has no good in them

Exactly!! I feel like Hanako is often put in a pedestal when I think one of the things that is very emphasized in tbhk is that no character is 100% good nor bad, even the protagonists lie in this morally gray area and people need to realize that doesnt make them bad characters but just overall more human !! Tsukasa and Hanako were both kids when everything went down and I cant imagine the amount of trauma both of them had gone through to make them the way they both are. Thats why I also think we should get a spread focus on the broadcasting club members (specially Sakura because we know very little about her sadly ;w;) so that people can see the other side of the flip coin !!

And holy shit death threats?? Thats horrible and if someone is that pressed about a ship (again of course, as long as its something legal and within bounds) they should just block the tag or dont interact with shippers !! I know how shitty it feels to be put down because you prefer a certain pairing and I am so sorry if you had to go through that :(( And of course Tsukasa is allowed to have a healthy and happy ending too !! I think at the end of the day he is still a child and probably scared at heart and he is painted in this horrible toxic light that really isnt there. I try to stay a bit out of the tbhk fandom for this reasons because I have seen a lot of weird ships and takes that sexualize the kids too and its sad to see such a good franchise often get flooded with all this character hate and illegal shenanigans.

And I love this about your analysis and I hope others get to read it because it is very true!! There are even things here that I skipped over or didnt realize until you pointed them out and I always love reading this kinds of character analysis. I do think what you said at the end is very true and people tend to ignore the side of things when they make up their mind from the start when Hanako and Tsukasa are more alike than what most people tend to believe.
