Lyric-to-Song Service at Songbay
Lyric-to-Song Service at Songbay
HAVE YOUR LYRICS TURNED INTO FANTASTIC ORIGINAL SONGS
“Any style, any genre, any instrument- we bring your lyrics to life”
Here at Songbay, we believe that all lyricists should be able to have their lyrics turned into songs.
If you do not compose music, sing, or play an instrument, or think it would be too expensive to have your lyrics turned into complete songs, we have come up with an amazing offer for you.
Our lyric-to Song service starts from just £99!
Lyric-to-Song. Why do lyricists need this service?
We know that it can be frustrating when you do not have an outlet for the words you’ve created and love. In addition, it can be almost impossible to break into the music industry with lyrics alone since most publishers do not accept ‘lyric only’ submissions.
So how do you find and collaborate with trustworthy composers and musicians (with a proven track record) who are willing and able to turn your lyrics into completed songs? That’s where we come in – Our lyric-to-song service – does exactly this – and more! Show us your lyric and we’ll turn it into a professionally recorded original song, based entirely around your stylistic requirements.

The Muti Instrumental version. As above, our team will then go on to turn your lyric into a fully arranged originally composed song in the style of your choice, with multiple verses, chorus, intro’s, bridges, etc. It will consist of a lead vocal, plus backing vocals, and at least 4 other instruments. Price £260
The Fully Produced version. As above, our team will then go on to turn your lyric into a fully arranged originally composed song in the style of your choice, with multiple verses, chorus, intro’s, bridges, etc. It will consist of a lead vocal, 2-10 multi-layered backing vocals, 8-25 other instruments, plus optimized song structuring/arrangement, mixing, and mastering. Price £500
Lyric-to Song – Methodology
Our approach is the same for all lyric-to-song versions, we first check the stylistic requirements and any melodic or harmonic ideas that you may already have. We can, of course, advise on all of this. We may suggest slight lyric changes to help with rhythmic flow, or even additional lyric content for contrasting bridge sections, intros, and outros, etc, or for linking one section to another. Once we have a clear directional overview, we make a start with the composing of melodic and harmonic ideas emanating from the lyric. We always work from the lyric, never the other way round, i.e., we never superimpose music onto the text. Our music evolves naturally from the lyric, giving all our songs musical synergy.
In terms of the time frame, we usually send a rough sketch to the user within 48 hours. Once the song is fully composed, we then record it with the required instrumentation/ session musicians. It is then mixed and professionally produced and delivered back to you in professional audio WAV, MP4 and MP3 formats.

The Elephant in the Room – Part 1
Sabine Walsh
Every year hundreds, if not thousands, of seats are sold on mediation training courses in Ireland and the UK alone. Most of these courses end with motivated, excited and passionate new mediators going out into the world looking to do their bit to change how conflict is dealt with. What they have usually not been told, and often don’t realise, is how few of them will end up working regularly in mediation.
All of us who work in this field are passionate about what we do and why we do it. But that passion can quickly turn into frustration when we print out business cards and set up our website and the phone stays quiet. A few throw in the towel quickly, others persist for a while before giving up. The elephant in the mediation training room is that there is just not enough work out there for all the mediators that are being trained. Those of us involved in training all know that a mediation qualification is not enough to generate mediation work and some courses sometimes oversell the likely benefits of their training. The oversupply of mediators in relation to the amount of work available is not something trainers want to talk about, not just because it will turn away participants but also because it is hard to see the enthusiasm of new mediators dampened and their efforts frustrated. But is this different from any other professional or career pursuit? If you train as a solicitor, executive coach or a pilot can you walk straight into a job or will clients be looking to hire you straight away?
Sounds gloomy doesn’t it? Maybe, but it does not have to be. The other side of that coin is the many many mediators I know that have thriving mediation practices, are referring work on to colleagues because they are over stretched – yes really – and who are living the dream that we all had when starting out down this path. We have a number of choices therefore – we can shrug our shoulders and give up, being grateful for the work we do have, work on raising awareness of mediation and generally promoting the mediation option so as to generate more work, wait for our governments to do so (don’t get me started on that one) or, figure out how those mediators who are successful make a living from mediation.
What is it that distinguishes those mediators who get work and make money from those who struggle to do so? Is it training, experience, connections? Is it because they know they right people, because, dare I say it, they are lawyers? Because they live in large urban centres or can afford to spend money on a fancy website?
No, I don’t think so. I think it is more complex than that, and, at the same time, simpler. I think those who are successful are those who are really good at marketing their service. That sounds logical but is more complex than we might think.
Many new mediators have chosen their path to make a difference, to help people, to change the way we think about conflict and to develop their skills and self awareness. And maybe, marketing our business and our services feels a little uncomfortable for that reason, because we are here to help, rather than to earn money. Marketing therefore, can be difficult, feel awkward, and is easily left to the bottom of the to-do list. For many, having those cards printed and the website set up ticks the marketing box. Surely the calls will come. But there is much more to marketing and promoting a mediation business than that.
What is it then, how does one market a mediation business successfully? I decided to do a little research on what it is that successful mediators do differently and what lessons we can learn from them. This has resulted in some interesting insights, and left me reassured that, while there may not be the abundance of freely available mediation work yet, there is a lot we can do to access the work that there is, and some lessons we can give our trainees on their way into the mediation world too. I will share these with you, but next month…in the mean time, how do you get your work and sell your services? Do you enjoy it or do you run a mile from marketing? It is worth thinking about…

Do British managers get a fair chance in the Premier League? A thorough look at the numbers
Some(Freedom of movement: do English managers miss out on jobs to imports?) Some()
Do British managers really get denied opportunities by foreigners?
Is the Premier League too keen to hire guys from Bogota rather than Bolton?
Is English football management in crisis?
These are emotive issues, and everyone from Sam Allardyce downwards has an opinion, some of them very strong.
The Proper Football Men speak of knowing the league, of coming in and doing a job, of Young British Managers getting a fair chance. Other people reckon that the Premier League is a global product so it makes sense to hire the best from around the globe.
But what do the numbers actually tell us? Let's look at the last ten seasons of the Premier League.
youtube
Firstly, what are we dealing with?
Thirty-seven clubs have competed in the Premier League since the 2006-2007 season.
There have been 153 managerial tenures during that time (we’ll exclude caretakers).
Only Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink have broken the ‘never go back’ maxim, both of them at Chelsea.
Obviously some people have managed more than one club and, by my reckoning, 104 different individuals have been a manager in the English top flight in the last 10 seasons.
Tiny housekeeping note: for these purposes I am counting clubs that have been in the PL over the last ten years even if they aren’t currently, e.g. Newcastle and Aston Villa but also rarer top table diners like Burnley and Cardiff.
My pay off? Yeah, about this big Credit: Reuters
Who are the 104 managers?
63 British or Irish 41 from other countries
39 England 12 Scotland 5 Ireland 4 Northern Ireland 3 Wales 9 Italy 7 Spain 6 Holland 4 French 3 Portugal 2 German 1 Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Croatia, Denmark, Israel, Norway, Sweden, Uruguay, USA
Earth: a reliable source of Premier League gaffers Credit: AFP/Getty
People who have managed more than one club
Sam Allardyce 6 Mark Hughes 5 Steve Bruce 4 Alan Pardew 4 Avram Grant 3 David Moyes 3 Harry Redknapp 3 Neil Warnock 3 Rafael Benítez 3 Roy Hodgson 3 Tony Pulis 3 Alex McLeish 2 André Villas-Boas 2 Iain Dowie 2 Brendan Rodgers 2 Ian Holloway 2 Chris Hughton 2 Jose Mourinho 2 Martin Jol 2 Martin O'Neill 2 Mauricio Pochettino 2 Nigel Adkins 2 Owen Coyle 2 Paul Jewell 2 Paul Lambert 2 Roberto Di Matteo 2 Roberto Martínez 2 Ronald Koeman 2 Tim Sherwood 2
Guus Hiddink and Jose Mourinho managed Chelsea twice but I am ignoring that for these purposes
Experienced: Sam Allardyce has managed a lot of football teams Credit: Action
Repeat opportunities go to natives
If you want to get chances at different clubs you're much better off being local.
Eleven people have had more than three managerial postings, of these only two (Avram Grant and Rafa Benitez) are not British/Irish. That makes 82 per cent of the three-time managers British or Irish.
Eighteen people have managed two clubs, six of them are foreign, meaning 66 per cent of two-time managers are British/Irish.
In total 29 more people have managed more than one club, of these only eight are foreign, or 29 per cent. Whereas Premier League managers as a whole in the past 10 years are 40 per cent foreign and 60 per cent British/Irish.
In short, you are more likely to begiven a second chance if you are British/Irish. You are extremely unlikely to be given a third chance if you are foreign.
Four wise men (Allardyce, Hughes, Bruce and Pardew) have had an amazing 19 managerial appointments between them. All are British.
I love managers tee Credit: Zazzle
What does it mean to get hired a second time?
It could be that you have done such a brilliant job at Club A that everyone else wants a bit of it. In which case, British and Irish managers must be doing a better job (we’ll get to this later) than foreigners, right? Right?
Or it might be that British and Irish managers are more likely to live here, and also to be working in the UK media and keeping their face in the shop window. Hiring a familiar face makes a lot of sense in all walks of life.

Who is blocking the way?
Could it possibly be that it is not foreigners who are blocking British managers but, well, other British managers?
Sam Allardyce is onto his sixth job, Mark Hughes his fifth, David Moyes and Tony Pulis their third each in the last 10 years. Are they stopping younger British coaches as much as foreign coaches are?

Repeat prescriptions?
Here is a list of the current managers in the Premier League. Are they having their first top-flight moment in our 10-year period?
Sam Allardyce is having his 6th go in the top flight, Mark Hughes 5th, David Moyes 3rd, Tony Pulis 3rd, Ronald Koeman 2nd, José Mourinho 2nd, Mauricio Pochettino 2nd.
Slaven Bilic, Paul Clement, Antonio Conte, Sean Dyche, Pep Guardiola, Eddie Howe, Aitor Karanka, Jürgen Klopp, Walter Mazzarri, Claude Puel, Claudio Ranieri (his time at Chelsea predates our study), Marco Silva and some bloke called Arsène Wenger are all having their first run.
First-timers, then, tend to be foreign - although obviously the likes of Guardiola, Klopp and Conte were hardly a short in the dark.

Premier League Nationalities
In the PL there are four Englishmen, two Welshmen and a Scot... orjust seven Brits/Irish out of 20.
The 13 foreigners: three Italians, two Spanish, two French, two Portuguese, one Dutchman, one Argentinian, one Serb and a German.
It is tough to get a Premier League job. But if this really is “the best League in the world”, is it all that surprising if members of that League scour the earth for the best coaches available? If, as Phil Thompson said at the weekend, that it is “manna from heaven” for the likes of Marco Silva to get a job at Hull then, well, Premier League clubs can afford to be choosy, right?
If everybody wants to work in such-and-such a sector or industry or locale, then the employers can take their pick. It’s why it’s harder to become a movie star in Bel Air than a cabbie in Luton. Did the Hull City owners select Marco Silva because they are involved in some sort of social engineering project to deny English managers a chance? Or did they employ him because they thought he was the best option available at the price?

What’s it like further down the pyramid?
Brits and Irish are currently under-represented in the PL’s dug-outs compared to the last decade, it is true. The story is different in the Championship.
British and Irish make up 17 out of 24 or 71% of managers in the second tier. They are…
English (12) Steve Bruce (Aston Villa), Paul Heckingbottom (Barnsley), Dean Smith (Brentford), Lee Johnson (Bristol City), Nigel Clough (Burton Albion), Neil Warnock (Cardiff City), Steve McClaren (Derby County), Garry Monk (Leeds United), Simon Grayson (Preston North End), Ian Holloway (Queens Park Rangers), Paul Warne (Rotherham United), Warren Joyce (Wigan Athletic)
Irish (3) Owen Coyle (Blackburn Rovers), Chris Hughton (Brighton & Hove Albion), Mick McCarthy (Ipswich Town),
Scottish (2) Alex Neil (Norwich City), Paul Lambert (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Foreigners (7) Dutchman Jaap Stam (Reading), Frenchman Philippe Montanier (Nottingham Forest), Italian Gianfranco Zola (Birmingham City), Portuguese Carlos Carvalhal (Sheffield Wednesday), Serb Slaviša Jokanović (Fulham), Spanish Rafael Benítez (Newcastle United) and German-American David Wagner (Huddersfield Town)
Who are those 17, then?
You often hear about Young British Managers bubbling under the top flight. ‘Young’ in this case is a relative term and seems to mean anyone under the age of about 40, or someone who looks quite good for their age and is 45.
It is these guys who, according to the Proper Football Men, are having the food ripped from their children’s mouths by Carlos Gafferballs.

But is it true?
Of those Brits/Irish in the second tier, a lot of them have been tried in the big league. Ten of the 17 Brit/Irish managers in the second tier have experience in the PL. Since 2006-2007:
Bruce has managed in the PL four times Warnock has managed in the PL three times Holloway has managed in the PL twice Coyle has managed in the PL twice Hughton has managed in the PL twice Lambert has managed in the PL twice McClaren has managed in the PL once Monk has managed in the PL once McCarthy has managed in the PL once Neil has managed in the PL once
Only Heckingbottom, Smith, Johnson, Clough, Warne, Grayson and Joyce could say they have not yet had a go in the Premier League.
Is there really a clamour for Warnock, McCarthy, Holloway to get PL jobs? Haven’t they had their chance?
Is it, in fact, Old British Managers who are keeping Young British Managers out as much as it is Foreigners?
Do British/Irish managers do the business when they get a chance?
We’re getting to the nitty-gritty. This, as a million beleaguered gaffers have told us in a million post-match interviews, is a results business.
Back in our ten year period from 2006-2007, as stated above, there have been 153 managerial tenures from 104 managers.

Let’s break them down a bit.
British/Irish guys tend to be over-represented with very short stints, i.e. caretakers. Makes sense because they are often coaches, club stalwarts etc
There could be other explanations for a very short stint - filling in while the club wait for a desirable target to be available (Hiddink at Chelsea, V2.0) or a specific relegation-avoidance brief from a club messiah (e.g. Shearer at Newcastle).
Water bottle bears brunt: Shearer as Newcastle manager Credit: Getty
Or it might just have been a fiasco.
On 29 occasions a manager has presided over 20 league games or fewer and left the job, 21 of were British or Irish. (Iain Dowie, God love Davros, managed it twice).
Famous local disasters include Les Reed’s seven games at Charlton with just one win, Sammy Lee’s 11 matches with one win at Bolton, Shearer’s eight with just one win and poor Terry Connor’s 13 Wolves matches without a victory, but with nine defeats.
With due respect to Paolo Di Canio at Sunderland or Rene Meulensteen at Fulham, if you really want something cocked up properly, shop local.

Do they get another chance if they really mess it up?
(with a qualification of 20 games managed from 2006-2007 to 2016-2017 and excluding current incumbents)
Let’s look at managers who hadstinking win rates.
There were 26 occasions when a manager had a win ratio of 25 per cent or worse, with the absolute pits being Paul Jewell’s 24-match winless stint at Derby from November 2007 to December 2008.
Derby County, Paul Jewell, England, 24 games, 0% win ratio Aston Villa, Rémi Garde, France, 20 games, 10% win ratio Watford, Aidy Boothroyd, England, 38 games, 13.16% win ratio Fulham, Lawrie Sanchez, Northern Ireland, 22 games, 13.64% win ratio Hull City, Mike Phelan, England, 20 games, 15% win ratio Reading, Brian McDermott, England, 29 games, 17.24% win ratio Aston Villa, Alex McLeish, Scotland, 38 games, 18.42% win ratio Queens Park Rangers, Harry Redknapp, England, 48 games, 18.75% win ratio West Ham United, Avram Grant, Israel, 37 games, 18.92% win ratio Hull City, Phil Brown, England, 67 games, 19.4% win ratio Portsmouth, Avram Grant, Israel, 25 games, 20% win ratio Queens Park Rangers, Neil Warnock, England, 20 games, 20% win ratio Queens Park Rangers, Mark Hughes, Wales, 30 games, 20% win ratio Newcastle United, Joe Kinnear, Republic of Ireland, 24 games, 20.83% win ratio West Bromwich Albion, Tony Mowbray, England, 38 games, 21.05% win ratio Newcastle United, Steve McClaren, England, 28 games, 21.43% win ratio Sunderland, Ricky Sbragia, Scotland, 23 games, 21.74% win ratio Blackburn Rovers, Steve Kean, Scotland, 59 games, 22.03% win ratio Portsmouth, Paul Hart, England, 27 games, 22.22% win ratio Southampton, Nigel Adkins, England, 22 games, 22.73% win ratio Sunderland, Gustavo Poyet, Uruguay, 60 games, 23.33% win ratio Hull City, Steve Bruce, England, 76 games, 23.68% win ratio Wolverhampton Wanderers, Mick McCarthy, Republic of Ireland 101 games, 24.75% win ratio Aston Villa, Paul Lambert, Scotland, 101 games, 24.75% win ratio Burnley, Owen Coyle, Republic of Ireland, 20 games, 25% win ratio Wigan Athletic, Roberto Martínez, Spain, 152 games, 25% win ratio
What do you notice about those names? Yep, same old faces. Sure, the clubs are strugglers or yo-yo clubs, in the main. (QPR have had some runs, huh?)
But of these 26 rotten tenures, 21 are from Brits/Irish. Yet the names of Bruce, McClaren, McCarthy, Warnock, Lambert, keep coming up when there’s a vacancy. A terrible time at the helm is no impediment to gainful future employment for the manager.
As long as he is from these parts, that is.

Tougher on imports?
On the other hand, foreigners like Remi Garde, Gustavo Poyet arguably find it harder to wash the stink off. Foreigners who had a really awful spell at a club don’t tend to get asked back. Is that because they were found out or is it because English football is more forgiving of its own?

Do Brits dig in harder?
The conventional wisdom, if you are wanting a club to stay up and no more, is that you need a manager who knows the league, has experience of a relegation dogfight, and can generally inspire/frighten a bunch of so-so players into pulling off a great escape.
Six clubs (Man Utd, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea) have never been relegated from the Premier League and they’ve broadly never been in danger of that happening. Add in the post-bazillions Manchester City, and you’ve got the current top seven of the League.
For the other 30 clubs who have been in the Premier League in the last decade, relegation, or at the very least the threat of it, is a fact of life. 23 teams have been ejected out of the Premier League’s undercarriage since 2006-2007. The fear is real.

Who are the dog-fighters?
Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers, Bournemouth, Burnley, Cardiff City Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Derby County, Fulham, Hull City, Leicester City, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Norwich City, Portsmouth, Queens Park Rangers, Reading, Sheffield United, Southampton, Stoke City, Sunderland, Swansea City, Watford, West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United, Wigan Athletic, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have had plenty of managers for plenty of relegation fights over the last decade.
One hundred and two managerial tenures by my count. Obviously, some managers have managed more than one of these strugglers, if that’s what we are calling them. Big Sam has done it five times, Mark Hughes four, Steve Bruce four.
There have been 75 different managers in 10 years who have been at a team that is broadly in some danger of relegation. Ideal territory for a man who “knows the League” to “come in and do a job”.
Thirty-five Englishmen, eight Scots, 5 Irish, 4 Northern Irish and 3 Welsh, making up 55 from these isles against 20 from sunnier climes.
So that’s73 per cent Brit/Irish for teams who need a result on a wet Tuesday at Sunderland in a real six-pointer, against 60 per cent generally across the league as a whole.
So if you’re in trouble, you get yourself a good old fashioned British/Irish boss.
Please take a moment out of your weekend to, once again, feast your eyes on Mick McCarthy.https://t.co/P7UwuCICrn

But do the Proper Football Men get it done?
Let’s look, then, at teams who finished in 15th, 16th and 17th over 10 years, i.e. the clubs who got out by the skin of their teeth. Obviously, it’s 30 teams.
Alan Pardew has twice finished just outside the drop, Mick McCarthy has done it twice, Paul Lambert has done it twice, Sam Allardyce has done it twice. But themaster of escapology, you might say, is Roberto Martinez, who has three times finished in 15th, 16th or 17th.
Twenty-four different managers have been wiping the sweat from their brow on the last day of the season with their PL status secured. They are:
Alan Curbishley, Alan Pardew, Alex McLeish, Dick Advocaat, Eddie Howe, Gary Megson, Gianfranco Zola, John Carver, Lawrie Sanchez, Mark Hughes, Mick McCarthy, Paolo Di Canio, Paul Jewell, Paul Lambert, Pepe Mel, Phil Brown, Ricky Sbragia, Roberto Martinez, Roy Hodgson, Roy Keane, Sam Allardyce, Steve Bruce, Steve Kean and Tim Sherwood
And Brits/Irish are indeed overrepresented here. 19 of them against just five foreigners, or 79 per cent. If you want to narrowly avoid the drop, then get a local. Whether 17th is a heroic achievement or an unworthy slump is beyond the scope of this particular article, as is the question of to whether a local man is given longer to turn a mess around.

Big Local Jobs for Big Local Boys?
Let’s turn then to these six clubs that have never been relegated, and Man City. This, by any reasonable measure, is English football’s top table.
There have been 36 tenures in the 10 years, which represents a more than average amount of volatility: the seven clubs averaging five managers over the decade. (Across the 37 clubs as a whole, there were 157 tenures, or 4.24 average a club).
All told, 30 men have taken charge of one of the top seven clubs and, no question about it, it’s an international affair: 15 different nationalities.
Four Englishmen, three Scots, a Northern Irishman and a Welshman have been given a go at the the top seven. That’s just nine homegrown managers out of 30.
On statistics then, you cannot argue with the arguments of Sam Allardici et al that Brits do not get the top jobs.
Should the Premier League take back control? Credit: AP
Who are those nine men?
Sir Alex, obviously. After that, you are looking at qualified successes at best. David Moyes at Man United and Everton. Mark Hughes and Stuart Pearce at Man City. Brendan Rodgers, Kenny Dalglish and Roy Hodgson at Liverpool. Harry Redknapp and Tim Sherwood at Spurs.
On 36 occasions that a top seven hot seat has come up, there has been a Brit/Irish bum in that bacon slicer just ten times, or 28 per cent of the time.
On the occasions that they have been given the top jobs, can British managers really say they delivered on behalf of their profession and their countrymen?

Conclusion
This is a debate that people feel strongly about, and it touches, unwittingly or not, on broader debates about the UK and who comes to work here. In trying to separate the emotion from the numbers, what have we learned?
British and Irish managers get about 63 per cent of the jobs overall.
But not the big gigs: 30 men have managed a top seven club and only nine of them are local.
Beating relegation is something of a local speciality: 79 per cent of the teams who finished just safe were Brit/Irish-bossed.
If you have a shocker at a club, you’re more likely to get another chance somewhere else if you are British or Irish.
On the merry-go-round, being British is a major advantage: of the 11 people who have managed three clubs or more, nine are British.
Young British Coaches, who make up some of the 17 Brit/Irish managers in the second tier, might be finding their routes to the top being blocked not just by foreigners but by their countrymen too. Ten of the local managers in the Championship have already had Premier League experience.
Ultimately, though, this debate comes down to feeling. If you agree that this is the Best League In The World, then it should be able to attract the best managers in the world.

Given how financially lucrative it is to stay in the Premier League, owners and shareholders would therefore do anything they could to stay in it, including appointing the best managers they can. Why would they not be rational actors?
The stats would suggest that quite often they believe that person to be British or Irish, and that local managers tend to get more chances to succeed, despite what Brits in the media might say.

If you actually want to win it though, unless you’re a retired angry Scotsman, you’re not going to be from these shores.
