Meliora/Popestar Ghouls guide

I noticed some people still have trouble telling the Ghouls apart. Specifically Meliora era Ghouls. So i'll try to make things easier for all of you :)

Learning which symbol/alchemic element (which was Martin Persner's/Omega's idea btw!) belongs to a certain Ghoul is essential:

🜂- Fire, 🜄- Water, 🜁 - Air, 🜃 - Earth, 🜀 - Quintessence. The first Fire Ghoul was also called Alpha and the first Quintessence Ghoul - Omega. Why such names? Because Quintessence/Ether Ghoul had Ω sticker on his guitar and fans started calling him Omega and his counterpart - Alpha. These names just fit them perfectly. Meliora era was unique because neither of previous Papas, nor Cardinal/Papa 4 called Ghouls by their names/elements. Only Papa III did that.

There were few changes of lineups during Era 3 and some Ghouls were given different names by fans. Simply because naming their elements wasn't enough. Examples will be seen below.

Ways to tell them apart when they are on stage:

Their instruments and stickers.

They are placed in certain areas of the stage: Quintessence and Earth on Papa's right, Water in the middle, Air and Fire on Papa's left.

Different body types, eyes, rings, bracelets and tattoos.

The way they behave.

When they are off stage, on promo photos etc just take a look at their chests.

Even though every Ghoul has 5 elements embroidered on their suits, their respective element is highlighted.

HQ pictures are pretty helpful if y'all wanna find your favorite Ghoul.

2015 lineup:

Air Ghoul #1. Simply Air. Joined Ghost in 2011. No tattoos, no rings. Usually quite calm on stage, favorite gesture is🤘 . Was the tallest Ghoul till 2017. Had cool keytar solo. Didn't move much.

Pebble aka Earth Ghoul #2. Joined Ghost in June 2015. Smol (yes, smaller than Papa). Has intense stare. Literal beast when it comes to playing drums. Had a special way of throwing sticks to fans (literally footballed them into the crowd lol). Funny one.

Quintessence Ghoul #1 aka Omega. Terzo's favorite Ghoul. His butt was smacked and grabbed by Papa countless times during Year Zero solo. Known for his stomping, graceful guitar playing style, has big silver rings on both hands and pretty eyes. Has the cutest laugh. Did lots of interviews when Special Ghoul wasn't around. Loves Abba. Has been in the band from 2010 till july 2016.

Water Ghoul #4 aka Delta. Slightly shorter than Papa III. Joined in 2015. Sometimes kicks air (literal air, not his fellow Ghoul) on stage, also filled in for Alpha (when he injured his shoulder) and Omega for a few shows. Played rhythm guitar after Omega left. Has no rings, no visible tattoos, but has mad skills. Allegedly he's the one who tried to kick the dude who got on stage and kissed Terzo lol

Fire Ghoul #1 aka Alpha. Popular among fans. Hangs out with every Ghoul on stage, especially with Water and Pebble. Loves cameras, does✌ a lot, humps his guitar sometimes. Enjoys attention, a bit horny:) Also did a few interviews (mostly with Omega), has strong accent, also speaks Italian. Has rings and tattoos on both hands (had none during era 1 and 2!). Taller than Papa. Joined in 2010, left in november 2016.

2016

Omega left in july, so Water took over rhythm guitar and the first Ghoulette of the Ghost, Mist, was introduced. This lineup toured till the end of the year and nobody returned for Popestar tour in 2017.

Quintessence Ghoul #2. Basically just Water, but with different guitar and highlighted QE symbol on his uniform.

Mist Ghoulette aka Water#5. Tiny💜, unlike Copia's Ghoulettes she wore the same outfit and mask (that looked a bit too big for her) just like other Ghouls. Badass bass player, has a ring, a tattoo on her finger and painted nails. Veeeeery calm. Cute as hell. Alpha liked her a lot.

Fire, Earth and Air Ghouls were same as in 2015:

2017

All of the previous Ghouls left and the new pack replaced them. If you see Ghouls who are +- same height as Papa, that's them!

(Dewdrop/Water #7, Aether/Quintessence #3, Zephyr/Air #2, Ifrit/Fire #2, Ivy/Earth #3)

Ifrit aka Fire Ghoul #2. Chaotic, hyperactive, Papa's hype man. Same height as Terzo, sweet bean, has wiiiide chest dorito shaped No tattoos, no rings. Spins, dances, jumps a lot. Gets "shot" during Ghuleh/Zombie Queen. No 🜂 sticker on his guitar. Only toured till 2018.

Aether aka Quintessence Ghoul #3. Beefy, jumps a lot, has rings and a bracelet. Always looks friendly. Plain black guitar with no QE symbol. Also pretty active, especially with his pal Ifrit. A bit taller than Papa III. Ran after Terzo when he got gragged off the stage by Papa Nihil's people. Joined in 2017, left in 2022.

P.S. since he's not Omega, his butt was safe during Year Zero solo 🙃

Dewdrop aka Water Ghoul #6 aka Sodo. Smaller than Terzo. Has an aggressive guitar playing style. A bit horny (it got worse). No visible tattoos. Proudly played bass with someone's panties. Syncs with Ifrit and Aether during Ghuleh/Zombie Queen outro. Became Fire Ghoul #3 in 2018. He's still in the Ghost (as of february 2024).

Zephyr aka chAir Ghoul #2. Sits on chair, a lot :) Charming, more active than previous Air ghoul. Loses it during Monstrance Clock, Per Aspera Ad Inferi and Cirice. Could be a great DJ. Almost the same height as Papa. Has a ring. His Mummy Dust keytar solo -[X]. Only toured till 2018.

Ivy aka Earth Ghoul #3. Underrated, many don't know much about him. Was present only during European leg of the Popestar tour (from march till july). Has brown eyes, a tattoo and bracelets. Same height as Ifrit. Wasn't around much, but still did a great job. Was later replaced by Mountain.

Mountain aka Earth Ghoul #4. Joined Ghost in july 2017. The tallest Ghoul. Hates shoes. Has a tattoo on the finger of his right hand, but you won't see shit on photos from this era because he wasn't photographed much and drummers usually get less attention than others in general:/ Quite calm comparing to Pebble. He's still in the band (as of february 2024).

Honorable mentions:

Special Ghoul aka Phil. Has green eyes, speaks Swedish. Did lots of interviews, showed up to grab a few awards for Ghost, worships cats and loves Abba. Literally Papa in disguise (aka Fire Ghoul's uniform and mask). Has been in the shadows since 2017.

Cowbell Ghoul. The myth, the legend. Played cowbell during "Ritual" and "If You Have Ghosts" a few times at the end of the Popestar tour in 2016. Tall, has a posture of a shrimp, always got shooed by Papa. Many want him back.

Ifrit & Aether Reason: Both were [briefly] in the band together, does Aether react to Dew's speedy connection to Ifrit? The Ghouls: Part 1

Ghoul teeth headcanons anyone? (Hey tag spam and long post! Sorry ^^') - 🐕

ALPHA: Alpha's teeth are large and dull. They were once sharp and pointed, however, because of his terrible chewing habit, they have gotten marginally duller. Despite his duller canines, he has a throat and tongue similar to a penguin, covered in backwards pointed spines.

OMEGA: Omega's top teeth are flat, and so are the majority of his bottom teeth. However, he does have two tusks that peek out from his bottom lip in an orc-like manner. They are about 5 inches or 12 centimeters in length and need to be kept maintained.

CHAIN: Chain's teeth are similar to a shark's, all of them being sharp and regenerative. However, Chain only has one row of deadly teeth, but frequently gets them knocked out or loses them. He can be missing teeth one day and have brand new ones the next.

BIG EARTH: Earth's teeth are entirely flat, resembling a goat's or other grass eating field animals. This is also an evolutionary result of his extremely long tongue not having enough room in his poor mouth.

LAKE: Lake has no teeth. He is completely nonverbal and cannot speak if he tried, he can only make small noises. Unlike other water ghouls, he is most closely related to his element. He does not need food, so he has no need for teeth to chew.

AERO: Aero's canine teeth are retractable, but aside from that feature, his are most close to human teeth in the cast of Opus/Infestissumam ghouls. Similar to Vampires in modern media, he can retract and detract his fangs. However, this is for intimidation and not sucking blood.

IVY: Ivy's teeth are also very similar to a goat's mixed with that of a human's, his underbite leaving him a bit of a snaggletooth exposed from his jaw. It's very rarely seen from stage because of his mask, but without it, it is one of his most distinct features.

RIVER: River's teeth are piranha-like. Unlike Chain's, they are not thick and sharp. His teeth are small line needles, opening his mouth to reveal a line of unevenly sized sewing needles. He was evolved to eat smaller creatures, hence why he does not have massive and tearing teeth.

DELTA: Delta's teeth are flat and hidden in the back of his throat like a goldfish's. However, he does wear dentures since he worries about scaring the Papas or his human fans and friends. Whenever he eats, he takes them out and seemingly swallows food whole, chewing in his throat.

COWBELL: Cowbell's teeth are more adjacent to an actual cow's. He only shows the bottom row of his teeth when he talks, because he does nor have an upper layer of teeth. He is a pure vegetarian simply because he is not evolved to eat meat.

MIST: Mist's teeth are sharp, jaded like the spine of a porcupine. She has to wear protection under her mask considering they scrape the inside of her mouth when she plays. She also needs her mouth guard to sleep. Because of the way she evolved, it makes her having her mouth closed very uncomfortable.

IFRIT: Ifrit's teeth are nearly identical to a wolf's, just featured in a smaller maw. He has long canines on his top and lower jaw, a gap between his front teeth and his canine so his lower canine can comfortably place in his mouth. His back teeth are also extraordinarily sharp, his mouth was made for ripping and tearing.

AETHER: Aether's teeth most closely resemble a human's out of the whole cast. He has regular molars and slightly sharp canines but not to an inhuman extent. He is the one who manicures Omega's tusks!

DEWDROP (WATER): Dewdrop's teeth are varied and also resemble a human's, but with the unfortunate twist that they are completely retractable. He usually is toothless whenever he is by himself, but unleashes his teeth on stage or in questionable situations. Similar to how cats use their claws. Sometimes they go away or come out on their own without his say, which annoys him deeply.

ZEPHYR: Zephyr's teeth are normal as well, but he has two layers of them. This is because he has evolved to open his mouth and protrude the outer layer to make himself seem scarier despite his dull teeth (considered dull to other ghouls). He can also unhinge his jaw like a snake! Which lets his mouth look bigger and scarier than it is as well.

PEBBLE: Pebble's mouth is almost a beak if it wasn't for the sharp teeth circling around the inner part of his mouth, just bordering his throat. Unlike the other Earth ghouls, Pebble's mouth almost comes off as more of a predator mouth than that of prey.

MOUNTAIN: Mountain continues Big Earth's legacy with the flat teeth, still akin to a goat's. This is more fitting considering Mountain's body resembles a goat strongly as well. However, his teeth are rather crooked, so he currently has braces to fix their appearance.

CUMULUS: Cumulus's front teeth are much sharper than her back teeth. Her front row of teeth can be mistaken as a carnivore's, but her back molars are very useless for chewing meat as they are just as dull as Mountain's. She does like to use her bitey front teeth to spook her friends, though.

CIRRUS: Cirrus has the sharpest teeth out of the ghoulette's, even rivaling Mist's. However, she evolved to avoid Mist's plight of uncomfortable teeth. Her two large canine teeth are constantly exposed, poking out from under her lips. They look like the fangs of a Sabertooth, if not as long, length and thin but extremely sturdy. They are venomous when she chooses them to be, but work as a sedative and not a poison.

SWISS: Swiss is... Well, his teeth are very regular on the surface. His teeth are rather normal, a bit sharper than your average ghoul. His special feature regarding his teeth and mouth is the fact he can show his gums similar to a threatened dog. His gums are black, like most ghoul's, but contrasting with his pearly whites can be a frightened sight if you are in the middle of a dark room.

RAIN: Rain's teeth are sharper than a normal person's, but not quite shark level like Chain's. It is very clear that Rain descended from the same generational evaluation that Chain and Mist did, his teeth being thick and sharp, and he has two long canines right beside one another.

SODOMIZER (FIRE): Sodo's teeth are still somewhat retractable, but other's have permanently stuck in place. His fangs got sharper after the element transformation, making it much more difficult to retract them or the surrounding teeth. Overall, his teeth just got much sharper and similar to Ifrit's but not quite as canine-like.

SUNSHINE: Sunshine has a row of sharp teeth on her upper row, her lower jaw being much duller. She has a bit of an overbite as well, leading to her mouth being open a lot of the time. Her canines are her sharpest teeth, thick but sharp on the ends. She has kind of the "classical monster" mouth.

AURORA: Very similarly to Swiss, Aurora's teeth are not her main attraction. She is a snarler, even unintentionally. Her gums go farther down onto her teeth than Swiss's, so even when she smiles, it gives off the ominous impression of a grimace. Her teeth themselves are quite sharp, only a tad sharper than other ghouls, but duller compared to most.

PHANTOM: Phantom's teeth are very human-like since he is very evolutionarily close to Aether, he didn't really have a need for large fangs or harsh bites.

PHIL: Phil is a shapeshifting ghoul so his teeth are pretty varied. However, for interviews, he usually sticks with the classic human look, or sharp canines and nothing too excessive.

The ghouls always wanting to visit Santa but Copia never allowed it cause of the chaos they could bring so one morning he asks Omega if he was willing to dress up as him and the look of horror and absolute joy on his face when Papa said it was for his younger Ghouls. Christmas Eve comes and Aurora is begging Copia to go to the little bookshop and take pictures with Santa which he keeps telling her no and she runs off to sulk next to Swiss

Copia comes in the room to tell them all that he wants to take their Christmas photos tonight and they all whine they don’t want too but grumpily agree to get into their non rude Christmas jumpers for the picture

The evening comes and Copia is knocking on the Dens door, he’s dressed in his silly Christmas jumper. Aether opens the door and he sees his little ones all ready for the picture “You all look wonderful my little ghouls! Now hurry up we don’t want to miss him…” Copia held back a laugh which caught the attention of his three youngest

“Late for who?!”

“Copia what’s happening?!”

“ARE WE GOING TO SEE SANTA!?”

Copia smirked at Aether who was fighting back a huge grin. Of course Omega spilled to Aether he was dressing up for his little ghouls and how excited he was to see their faces. As Copia left the room a trail of ghouls followed behind him like a mother duck and her babies.

As they were leaving the Den they noticed Terzo, Secondo and Primo with their ghouls waiting with them outside the church too. All too excited as they waited to be let in.

“Copia I want to take a picture with the girls and you!” Aurora screamed in absolute excitement as she jumped up and down, her tail repeatedly hitting Swiss and Rain. “Now now Aurora calm down, we’re just waiting for the door to open” Copia placed his hand on the small ghoulettes shoulder who was trying her best to stay still but was shaking with excitement.

Just as Copia finished talking the doors to the church opened and Pebble walked out in an elf costume. “Looking good pipsqueak!” Alpha called out receiving a small smack around the back of his head from Secondo.

Pebble grinned far too into his character, “Come! Come! He’s been waiting for you!” He called out and ushered Aurora, Phantom and Sunshine in first. “Quickly now! He doesn’t have all day! He’s very busy this year you know!” Pebble waddled behind the three youngsters with his outfits bells jingling along.

Copia panicked when he heard his two young ghoulettes scream and rushed into the room to see Sunny and Aurora hugging each other and Phantom already climbing to sit on Santas lap. “My ghulehs, thank lucifer…” he panted, hands on temple massaging the area.

Primo chuckled slapping Copia on his back “No matter how old they are.. or we get that panic never goes away fratellino” and Copia let out a tiny groan. Primo went to open his mouth when he caught sight of Chain pushing his way to the front of the line. “Chain! Stop that right now! You got to meet him first last time, this is for the youngsters!” He croakily yelled as he pulled the water ghoul by his ear to stand next to him at the back looking at him with a scowl.

Chain grinned at Copia and his smile only got bigger when he noticed Secondo holding Rivers hand to also stop him from pushing his way. Alpha was stood next to Secondo rubbing his ear and glaring at his Papa whining that “he didn’t have to do it that hard”. Copia let out a small laugh as he watched his ghouls get a picture with Santa.

“Papa! Come join meee” Cowbell called out to Terzo who shook his head, “Bell, Group pictures are at the end once everyone has a picture with Santa Claus” he clapped his hands together waiting for his turn. Once all of Terzos ghouls were done Terzo smirked and promptly sat on Santas lap. “Have I been a good boy this year?”

Omega held back a laugh, his shoulders slightly bouncing. “Ho Ho.. let me see… Ah Terzo, Yes you have been a very good boy this year” ‘Santa’ smiled at the man who grinned back before lounging himself comfortably across the large Santa posing for a picture.

It took a few hours for everyone to have their pictures taken singularly plus group photos and then any photos that the ghouls wanted together. By the end of the night Omegas voice had began to crack from faking a deep voice and Copia decided it was time to go to bed. The ghouls minus Aether, Dewdrop and Mountain rushed to the Dens excitedly talking about getting into their pyjamas and ready for Christmas tomorrow.

“Ah my Ghouls what can I do for you?” Copia tiredly asked the three who looked between each other, “Papa will you take a picture with us and Terzo?” Dewdrop quietly asked almost nervous that he’d say no. Copia grinned and felt his eyes grow wet “Yes yes, I will of course my little dewdrop”

“Sorry Omega, just one more picture” Mountain apologised at the elder quintessence ghoul. Omega sighed before patting his lap, Copia sat on one leg and Terzo sat on the other with Dew sat in the middle on the floor with Mountain in front of Copia and Aether on the other side of the little fire ghoul in front of Terzo.

Once all was done the three ghouls pulled their Papa down to their Dens and Copia felt tears fall down his face when he spotted his own stocking hanging above the fireplace with his ghouls stocking beneath.

“Oh my ghouls I love you so much” he huffed wiping his tears away.

“We love you too Copia” The ten of them responded in unison. “Okay don’t do that, that was creepy” he laughed and the rest agreed laughing as well. “Right, off to bed you lot or you won’t get a gift from Santa!” He said giving each of his ghouls a goodnight kiss and a hug.

“Papa… Will you sleep with me tonight?” Rain asked softly and Copia placed a soft kiss between his horns, “I would love too” and followed Rain into his room getting pulled into the bed and Rain began to pull off his Papas clothing until he was just in his shorts, cuddling up to the man he whispered “Thank you for doing that Papa, the look on their faces was worth the wait and the small tantrums” Rain sleepily smiled.

“I would do anything for my Ghouls” Copia whispered to the water ghoul.
