2021: Disney - Disney Springs
Our Disney vacation package came with a coupon for 20% off at one of several restaurants at Disney Springs, and so our first night we headed out to explore the nightlife. Disney Springs has multiple stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues including performances, bowling, a movie theater and more. You could spend a whole day at this exciting place, but we only had a few hours as we needed to…

whats your favourite plane? mine is the Avro Lancaster
Oh, that’s the classic British bomber. (I looked it up. It’s pretty neat!)
I don’t know a lot about planes, since I’m not much of an aerophile. But, I do know of the Flying Pancake.
Just look at it. It’s so silly. I love it. It has so much personality.
Also called the Vought V-173, the concept behind its design was to make a plane that was “all wing”. And that just sounds incredible to me.
“Okay, but what if—hear me out—we made the entire plane a single wing.”
“Like, the plane only has a wing on one side? There’s no way it’d have enough lift.”
“Nonono, you’re not getting it. The plane is the wing.”
“…?”
“The whole body of the plane is flat and discoidal, like a pancake, and generates lift.”
“Let me get this straight, sir. You want to make a pancake… that flies?”
“Now you’re getting it. Come on, let’s grab some military grants before they’re all out.”

Chapter 13: Florida Tour
youtube
(Now, at Air Force Fun Helicopter Tours, Marinette boards a waiting helicopter.)
TOUR GUIDE: Good afternoon, Miss Dupain-Cheng. Welcome to Air Force Fun Helicopter Tours. I hope you’re ready for extravagant sights of some of Florida’s greatest tourist attractions.
(The helicopter lifts off. They leave the plaza and pass the Premium Outlets.)
TOUR GUIDE: To our left is the Orlando International Premium Outlets, an outdoor outlet mall. It used to be called Prime Outlets-Orlando.
(Later, Marinette sees Aerophile - The World Leader in Balloon Flight.)
TOUR GUIDE: First is Disney Springs, an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment complex at the Walt Disney World Resort. First opened in 1975 as Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village, it has been expanded and rebranded over the years as Walt Disney World Village in 1977, Disney Village Marketplace in 1989, and Downtown Disney in 1997, finally becoming Disney Springs in 2015.
(Over Bonnet Creek…)
TOUR GUIDE: Over there is Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, one of two operating water parks at the resort. The second water park to open at the resort, preceded by Disney’s River Country, which closed in November 2001. The park is home to one of the world’s largest outdoor wave pools where it is even possible to bodysurf. The theme of the park is the “Disney legend” of a typhoon that wreaked havoc upon a formerly pristine tropical paradise. Ships, fishing gear, and surfboards are strewn about where the storm flung them. Its centerpiece is “Miss Tilly”, a shrimp boat impaled upon a mountain named “Mount Mayday” that erupts a 50-foot geyser of water every half hour, right before the bells of the watch sound on it. Its mascot is “Lagoona Gator”.
(Marinette gawks as they pass the Surf Pool. Later, she points out another attraction.)
MARINETTE: Ooh, that big ball looks epic.
TOUR GUIDE: That’s Epcot. Often referred to as a “permanent world’s fair”, Epcot is dedicated to the celebration of human achievement, particularly technological innovation and international culture. During early development of the Florida property, Walt Disney wanted to build an experimental planned community showcasing modern innovation, known as Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, or “EPCOT”. Epcot remains a popular destination, with Spaceship Earth, a geodesic sphere, serving as its iconic landmark.
(They fly over Fantasmic!)
TOUR GUIDE: Here is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Originally named the Disney–MGM Studios Theme Park, it was the third of four theme parks built at Walt Disney World. Spanning 135 acres, the park is themed to an idealized version of Hollywood, California, and is dedicated to the imagined worlds from film, television, music, and theatre, drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
youtube
TOUR GUIDE: Pandora - The World of Avatar is a themed area inspired by the Avatar franchise created by James Cameron. Set a generation after the events of the Avatar films, the area is based upon the fictional habitable exomoon, Pandora, and features Pandora’s floating mountains, alien wildlife, and bioluminescent plants. Spanning 12 acres, it includes two major attractions, Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey, as well as retail and dining outlets.
youtube
(They fly over DINOSAUR and Dino-Rama.)
TOUR GUIDE: Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a zoological theme park. Owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company through its Experiences division, it is the largest theme park in the world, covering 580 acres. The park was the fourth theme park built at the resort. It’s dedicated and themed around natural environment and animal conservation, a philosophy once pioneered by Walt Disney.
(Later, Marinette gawks at the Magic Kingdom’s immense parking lot.)
TOUR GUIDE: As we approach the Magic Kingdom, feel free to take in the gorgeous greenery that covers most of the state.
(They circle around the Partner’s Statue of Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney.)
TOUR GUIDE: Here is Magic Kingdom Park. It is owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company through its Experiences division. The official park name has changed slightly over the years, from Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom from 1971 to 1994 and The Magic Kingdom from 1994 to 2017. The park was initialized by Walt Disney and designed by WED Enterprises. The park layout and attractions were based on Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and are dedicated to fairy tales and Disney characters.
(Marinette watches as they pass Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Later, they fly over the Sky Tower outside Seaport Theater and Voyager’s Smokehouse.)
TOUR GUIDE: SeaWorld is an animal theme park. Although separately gated, it is often promoted with neighboring parks Discovery Cove and Aquatica as well as Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, all of which are owned and operated by United Parks & Resorts. Across the street is Aquatica, its sister park. The park is themed to the southern Pacific and features Australian and New Zealand based mascots. The park features a wide array of attractions for all ages and swimming abilities, some of which pass by or through animal habitats, and has two wave pools which share an extensive, 80,000-square-foot man made white-sand beach area equipped with deck chairs, sun beds, and umbrellas.
(Marinette gawks at the beach near Big Surf Shores and Cutback Cove. Later, the tour guide lands at Air Force Fun.)
TOUR GUIDE: And that concludes the tour of the city’s most popular attractions. Feel free to leave a review on Yelp.
MARINETTE: I will. Thanks.

Alpha Amylase Enzyme And Its Uses
What Is Alpha Amylase Enzyme And Its Uses?
Amylase, any member of a category of enzymes that catalyse the chemical reaction (splitting of a compound by addition of a water molecule) of starch into smaller saccharide molecules like maltose (a molecule composed of two glucose molecules).
Two classes of amylases, denoted alpha and beta, dissent within the method they attack the bonds of the starch molecules. Alpha amylase is widespread among living organisms.
Industrial Application Of Alpha Amylase Enzyme
1. Starch Conversion
The most widespread applications of alpha amylases are in the starch industry, which is used for starch hydrolysis in the starch liquefaction process that converts starch into fructose and glucose syrups. The supermolecule conversion of all starch includes gelatinization, that involves the dissolution of starch granules, thereby forming a viscous suspension; phase change, that involves partial chemical reaction and loss in the body; and saccharification, involving the assembly of aldohexose and disaccharide via any reaction.
Initially, the alpha amylase of eubacteria amyloliquefaciens was used however it’s been replaced by the alpha amylase enzyme of eubacteria stearothermophilus or eubacteria licheniformis.
The enzymes from the eubacteria species are of interest group for large-scale biotechnological processes because of their exceptional thermostability and since economical expression systems are offered for these enzymes.
2. Detergent Industry
Detergent industries are the first customers of enzymes, in terms of each volume and price.
The use of enzymes in detergents formulations enhances the detergents ability to get rid of robust stains and creating the detergent environmentally safe.
Amylases are the second style of enzymes employed in the formulation of protein detergent, and ninetieth of all liquid detergents contain these enzymes.
These enzymes are utilised in detergents for laundry and automatic lavation to degrade the residues of starchy foods like potatoes, gravies, custard, chocolate, etc. to dextrins and alternative smaller oligosaccharides.
Amylases have activity at lower temperatures and base-forming pH scale, maintaining the required stability below detergent conditions and therefore the aerophilous stability of amylases is one among the foremost vital criteria for their use in detergents wherever the laundry surroundings are incredibly oxidising.
Removal of starch from surfaces is also important in providing a whiteness benefit since starch can be an attractant for many types of particulate soils.
Examples of amylases employed in the detergent business are derived from eubacteria or Aspergillus.
3. Fuel Alcohol Production
Ethanol is the most utilised liquid biofuel. For ethanol production, starch is the most used substrate due to its low price and easily available raw material in most regions of the world. In this production, starch has to be solubilised and then submitted to two enzymatic steps in order to obtain fermentable sugars.
The bioconversion of starch into alcohol involves natural process and saccharification, wherever starch is reborn into sugar using an amylolytic microorganism or enzymes like alpha amylase, followed by fermentation, where sugar is converted into ethanol using an ethanol fermenting microorganism such as yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The production of ethanol by yeast fermentation plays an important role in the economy of Brazil. In order to obtain a new yeast strain that can directly produce ethanol from starch without the need for a separate saccharifying process, protoplast fusion was performed between the amylolytic yeast Saccharomyces fibuligera and S. cerevisiae. Among microorganism, α-amylase obtained from thermos flask resistant microorganism like true bacteria licheniformis or from built strains of Escherichia coli or Bacillus subtilis is used during the first step of hydrolysis of starch suspensions.
4. Food Industry
Amylases are extensively utilised in processed-food business like baking, brewing, preparation of digestive aids, production of cakes, fruit juices and starch syrups. The α-amylases are wide employed in the baking business. These enzymes can be added to the dough of bread to degrade the starch in the flour into smaller dextrins, which are subsequently fermented by the yeast. The addition of α-amylase to the dough results in enhancing the rate of fermentation and the reduction of the viscosity of dough, resulting in improvements in the volume and texture of the product.
Moreover, it generates extra sugar within the dough, which improves the taste, crust colour and toasting qualities of the bread.
Besides generating possible compounds, α-amylases also have an anti-staling effect in bread baking, and they improve the softness retention of baked goods, increasing the shelf life of these products.
Currently, a thermostable maltogenic enzyme of eubacteria stearothermophilus is employed commercially within the bakehouse business.
Amylases are also used for the clarification of beer or fruit juices, or for the pre-treatment of animal feed to improve the digestibility of fibre.
5. Textile Industry
Amylases are used in the textile industry for the de-sizing process. Sizing agents like starch are applied to yarn before material production to make sure a quick and secure weaving method. Starch is a very attractive size, because it is cheap, easily available in most regions of the world, and it can be removed quite easily.
Starch is later far from the woven material in an exceedingly wet-process within the textile finishing business.
De-sizing involves the removal of starch from the material that is the strengthening agent to forestall breaking of the warp thread throughout the weaving method. The α-amylases take away by selection the dimensions and don’t attack the fibres.
Amylase from true bacteria stain was utilised in textile industries for quite a very long time.
6. Paper Industry
The use of α-amylases within the pulp and paper business is for the modification of starch of coated paper, i.e. for the assembly of low-viscosity, high molecular weight starch.
The coating treatment serves to make the surface of paper sufficiently smooth and strong, to improve the writing quality of the paper. During this application, the consistency of the natural starch is just very high for paper size and this may be altered by part degrading the chemical compound with α-amylases during a batch or continuous processes.
Starch could be a sensible filler agent for the finishing of paper, improving the quality and erasability, besides being a good coating for the paper. The size enhances the stiffness and strength in the paper.
Conclusion
The use of α-amylase in starch-based industries has been prevalent for many decades and a number of microbial sources exist for the efficient production of this enzyme, but only a few chosen strains of fungi and bacterium meet the factors for business production.
The search for new microorganisms that can be used for amylase production is a continuous process. More recently, several authors have given sensible leads to developing α-amylase purification techniques, that modify applications in pharmaceutical and clinical sectors that need high purity amylases.
