Back to normal sleeping hours for Fajardo
Fajardo lifts PBA Philippine Cup trophy as Beermen celebrate another crown. Photo by Tristan Tamayo/INQUIRER.net June Mar Fajardo tossed and turned in bed the night before San Miguel went for the clincher against Ginebra in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals. And after the Beermen closed the deal out with a 91-85 Game 5 triumph on Sunday to win their third straight All-Filipino crown, you bet the first thing on Fajardo’s mind was finally getting some sleep. Aerieal Patnongon said she policed her boyfriend’s sleeping through the course of the playoffs, believing that if Fajardo had slept early, his performance would take a hit. READ: Slaughter would’ve changed Finals series, admits Fajardo “When he wants to sleep early, say 10 or 11 p.m., I stop him and tell him to play with his phone. When he sleeps early, he gets up really early and that affects his game,” the former Ateneo Lady Eagle said in Filipino. Patnongon has also gone the extra mile in embracing the three-time PBA Most Valuable Player’s favorite pastimes, notably mobile games, with the two spending time playing Mobile Legends on their phones. “He sleeps at 1:30 a.m. and wakes up at 10:30 a.m. during gamedays. That really gets him going and prepares him well for the games,” she said, also noting that her beau needs to get at least eight hours of sleep. READ: Fajardo on ’10 MVPs’ prophecy: Better if I win 10 championsips Coincidence or not, the quirk worked wonders for Fajardo as he averaged 18.9 points, 14.2 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.7 assists this past Philippine Cup, en route to his record-tying fifth Best Player of the Conference award. With San Miguel’s journey to a three-peat already accomplished, Patnongon could only say one thing to her “babe.” “He can sleep anytime he wants now,” she said with a smile. Written by: Randolph B. Fajardo, girlfriend Patnongon look forward to ‘double celebration’
For one, the 6-foot-10 Fajardo capped his long, grinding weekend with his fourth PBA championship overall since entering the pro league as the no. 1 pick in 2012.
You see, Friday gave the Cebuano gentle giant a personal high after being named the Best Player of the Philippine Cup, enabling him to tie his former mentor and PBA legend Danny Ildefonso’s feat.
That same day, Fajardo, playing inspired basketball, finished with his usual dominant numbers of 20 points, 13 rebounds and 2 blocks as San Miguel took a commanding 3-1 Finals series lead over Barangay Ginebra.
On Saturday, just 12 hours after the Beermen moved a step closer to winning another all-Filipino crown, Fajardo hit the floor in practice, before going out for a simple, yet meaningful dinner date with his girlfriend, former Ateneo volleyball player Aerieal Patnongon to celebrate their two-year anniversary.
“Nag-dinner lang kami, kasi nga bawal mapagod kasi may game kinabukasan,” said Patnongon in a short chat with FOX Sports.
But come Sunday, Fajardo and his SMB teammates wasted no time disposing off Ginebra, pulling off a 91-85 victory before another full house crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to complete their mission of winning the Jun Bernardino Perpetual Trophy.
Moments after the Beermen’s 4-1 title conquest of the Philippine Cup, Patnongon can’t help but marvel at the “double celebration” he’ll finally have with Fajardo.
“Masaya kasi double-celebration, three-peat pa,” quipped Patnongon. “At least ngayon, makakapag-celebrate na talaga.”
While there’s no concrete plan yet, the couple said it will more likely be a short one since Fajardo is looking to reunite with his family at Pinamungahan, Cebu as soon as possible. Even as Patnongon will continue her training for Creamline—a new team in the Philippine Volleyball League (formerly V-League).
“Ewan ko kung kailan siya babawi sa akin, pero sana nga bumawi siya,” said the former Ateneo Lady Eagle with a smile.
Fajardo, though, agave an assurance that he’ll make it up for his girlfriend: ”Siyempre babawi.”
But for now, the soft-spoken big man wants to kick off his vacation together with his family in his native province.
“Uwing uwi na ako, gusto ko na sila i-hug,” he said.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
.
It was just a few months ago when we witnessed your overflowing happiness same time this year last season.
No words could describe your smiles.
No words could suffice your joy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We witnessed your tears, probably of victory, relief, or maybe of disbelief.
It was surreal but yes, you made it.
And those tears proved that it was all worth it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But before all of these, we have long witnessed your hard work.
We saw you break barriers and defy odds.
We saw you fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We saw your heart in every move, that which does not fear nor falter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We saw you step up, lead the pack and embrace your roles: seniors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
            We saw you down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We saw you down, down, down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We saw the “family” behind the “teammates.”

We saw the “funny” behind the beasts we saw in court.

We saw you stand up and brave the storms, hold on to each other like your life depends on one another.

        Without you, Aerieal..

        Without you, Denden..

            It could have been impossible.

Thank you for all the hard work, dedication and sacrifices, girls!
We will miss everything about you!

Much as we wouldn’t want to see you leave, we’d also love to see you go places and conquer heights.
Know that we will support you still wherever you go.
Because that is just how we love you so.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Aerieal, Ella and Denden!

Are we looking at this year's champs?
Though it's a tad too early to tell, Season 75's team roster (sans Mona Bagatsing and Amy Ahomiro, who I surmise were frolicking about at the Blue Eagle Gym) is sure to make another strong run in the UAAP wars in November.
The Katipunan-based squad not only boasts of an intact lineup coming into the new season, but four outstanding recruits in freshmen Gizelle Tan, Jhoanna Maraguinot, Marge Tejada, and Jirah Llaneta are set to join the team as well.
With five outgoing superseniors, I think it's about high time we bring the women's volleyball trophy to its rightful place...in Katipunan, of course. (Heh!)
On that note, good luck, ladies!!!
